Pros: Food was AMAZING! 10s, 10s, 10s across the board! I was with a party of 7 and everyone loved their meal. Truly delicious. Cons: Customer service was "meh" the server was a little too sassy for my taste. I get joking around, but berating my mother for wanting sour dough bread over white was a bit much. Def did not feel welcome, BUT, the food was so damn good.

Ruined my breakfast this morning. Served old crusty rice & GREY teriyaki beef. It smelt so bad. Why would your cook let that go out the window?

It's a laid-back, old-school cafe where the food never disappoints. I ordered the worlds famous "Dooley Skillet" and cooked just right. I've been here a few times and I'm always satisfied with my order.

I love breakfast. Love it. It's my favorite meal of the day! I'm a little disappointed in this place though. It's my first time in Alaska and we had arrived early in the morning so what's the first thing we wanted to do? Eat! Had a party of six so we roll up and it was self seating. It was pretty busy considering it was 7 in the morning! We seated immediately and was greeted by a server, who took our drink orders and handed us the menus. Working Man's Breakfast- consisted of a choice of meat, eggs, side (I chose hash browns), with biscuit and gravy. Hash was very mushy, eggs weren't seasoned, sausage was thick and delicious, and the gravy??? Ooooh. My favorite part! Blueberry Pancake was pretty good- can't mess that up! Per my mom. Aaron's Omelette- had reindeer but tasted kind of rubbery??? They make the eggs and throw the stuff on top of them. Per my dad Noah's Fav- "it tasted great" per my brother Steak & Eggs- "steak was over cooked but more edible than the eggs" per my brother Grilled Pork Chop- "ok, dry and needed more seasoning" per my brother Overall, this was similar to a place like iHop & Denny's. Nothing wowed me to come back. ON A GOOD NOTE: GOOD SERVICE!! Fast and sweet! Our server was very friendly and seemed to really know her customers!

Came in to a busy Saturday mid morning brunch and ordered up endless coffee, classic Benedict, Hawaiian French toast, and chicken fried steak. Great, friendly staff that took great care of us. Chill vibes - the decor feels homey. And the food comes in hefty portions sure to leave you full and satisfied. Just good comfort food without drowning in grease.

They accommodated a large group near closing and they kept our coffees full. I would come here again.

Bland, unseasoned and cold food. Our service was not friendly and no refills. Did not enjoy our visit and we won't be back.

Our #1 go to for breakfast and has been for many years. It's not fancy but it's clean friendly, and good down home cooking. Try it.

I was honestly really excited going in because I love an old-school diner moment... but this one was a bit of a miss for me. My food was fine, nothing terrible, just not something I'd go out of my way to come back for. The biggest letdown though was the biscuit and gravy. The gravy was very bland and had a strong uncooked flour taste, to the point where it just didn't feel worth continuing to eat after a couple bites, which was disappointing. Breakfast is usually my go-to at places like this, but if I ended up back here, I'd probably skip the breakfast menu and try something else instead. Overall, great service and a welcoming, local feel, just didn't quite hit for me food-wise this time.

This is such a weird place. Its a place i desperately want to like. I lived in Spenard for over a…read moredecade and this is an anchor in the neighborhood, in fact we ran into a 90 year old friend while we were there. But every time we visit, it reinforces why its not my jam. First, let me explain my bias- Im from New Jersey. New Jersey is.the diner capital of the world. As one of the smallest states, it still managed to have 130 24-hour diners while I was a teenager. You could get an quality meal that included a drink, entree, 2 sides and a dessert for what was the equivalent for less than an hours worth of work at the time. For even less you could get an enormous breakfast with toast, pancakes and 2 eggs, 2 meats.and a coffee. And it was good. And the variety was just wow... And Leroys just.... isn't they do sandwiches and breakfast. And its not cheap. You can't get a hot, affordable dinner here...they have a very limited list of hot dinners.. I got a rueben and salad. It was fine. Had I not taken a picture of it I wouldn't even have remembered what I got. It was not memorable. My husband bot breakfast. I thought his over easy eggs looked a bit overcooked. But he said his pancakes were the best he had in a very long time. My biggest issue is cleanliness. The places is a massive and I mean MASSIVE HOSEDOWN. Same reason I won't eat at Kava's anymore. Dust and grease are not a good combo. Mixed bag here i think. The locals support it because it's a real mom and pops where they congregate. But it does leave a lot to be desired. If you're not from here, I'm not sure that I can say its worth a visit unless they bring back their 24 hour service that made them unique.

Fabulous Meal! The UAA Culinary Students knocked this meal…read moreout of the park. I had the Filet Surf and Turf. My Filet was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I would say my steak would have given Whiskey and Ramen a run for their money. A true medium rare and juicy. Nearly tender enough to cut with a fork. The Scallops. I don't usually care for scallops but I will say there was a perfect sear and they were not over cooked. Sweet Potato Gnocchi was really good and the Gorgonzola Sauce was balanced flavorful and I will be trying to replicate it soon. My son enjoyed a flank steak, delicious, a good sear and just enough lime to enhance the experience. We skipped the desserts I have to address the prices which are ridiculously low. I hear reservations fill up quick so watch their website.

I do think some of the items were on the pricier side for what you are receiving as well as considering it's a student run lab, and not an operating restaurant. Although the restaurant is in more of a cafeteria setting thru do a very nice job of making it feel more high end with their table settings & fresh florals. The students are also dressed very professionally, and the menu is a great selection of higher end items. My favorite part of the meal were the desserts (Lady Palmer & Black cherry chocolate cake). They were exemplary quality, and I feel were restaurant ready. For our entrees I ordered the duck breast, and black cod. I really enjoyed the basil & pea puree that came with the cod, and for the duck breast I thought it was seasoned well though I would've preferred it a little less well done. For appetizers I ordered prawn fritters & a bread plate. I really enjoyed the different components of the bread plate; my favorite being the whipped honey feta. The fritters were tasty, but I wish they had more prawn pieces in them. This restaurant is a learning experience for the students so you should not go into this meal expecting 5 star perfection, but it's a great way to get involved in helping to educate the culinary students in a real life setting. The meal includes comment cards that they ask you fill out, which will really help the students improve. Lucy's was a very fun & unique experience, and I hope to be able to get a reservation again next year!
