Excellent food. Nice little sandwich place. Clearly a place for the locals. I got the #20 Ona French roll and Jamie got the ham and turkey on sourdough. We each took half our sandwich to go after we got full.

I can honestly say I haven't had a sandwich at Sara's in easily 20 years. Yikes... talk about agin myself! We needed to have lunch delivered to work today for me and my husband and went with Sara's for ease, recommendation and remembering how good they were. We went with a #13 Italian Combo and #14 American Combo. Both were tasty and we were pleased with the portions of meat, cheese and veggies. Decent size sandwich too, not too big that I could only eat half and not too small to leave me hungry. My only gripe really is the one hour delivery time. I read several reviews that stated an hour and even calling at 10:15am, it was still an hour out for delivery... and an hour on the nose too! I won't hesitate to use them again but definitely have to plan ahead to ensure you give yourself an hour before your lunch break!

Triple Combo Sub and Vegetable Beef Barley soup!

After the disappointing meal I had from a previous review, I can gladly add a positive one to the mix after a recent lunch. Sara's Sandwiches is a popular lunch spot located in the industrial area of Arctic off of International Airport Rd. to your left as you're going southbound towards the Dowling Rd. bridge a few doors down from Woo-Hoo Ice Cream. The place was modestly busy but the dining area quickly filled up a few minutes after walking in. The dining room itself is not that large, but big enough to accommodate enough diners for the lunch rush. Paper menus are available for customers at the counter where an employee takes your order by circling the specific ingredients you want on your sandwich. A detailed list is provided for the types of meat, cheese, veggies, bread, and condiments you would like in the custom section of the menu. Aware that the place was filling up rapidly, I didn't want to build the line up behind me. The promotion they had was Souper Saturday. When you order any sandwich on the menu, you get a free 8 oz. cup of soup. I decided to go with the Triple Combo Sub with wheat bread off the order-by-number selection with the ingredients already listed (ham, turkey, roast beef, cheddar, provolone, Swiss, mayo, mustard, lettuce, and tomato) along with a side of macaroni salad. I was glad I chose this. By the time my sandwich arrived, there was already a steady line forming close to the door. The sandwich was delicious with an enormous amount of meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. I only wished I had more mayonnaise, but all the ingredients combined perfectly for a very filling meal. A hearty side of free Vegetable Beef Barley soup made the perfect complement for the sandwich on a cold winter day. I can imagine how busy this place could be on a workday especially with how the line quickly forms. Picking up a menu and calling ahead for your order is ideal without waiting in-house.

This place has been a favorite of mine for a long time. I haven't actually been in the last couple years however. As usual, it's packed out at lunch time so either get there before noon or after 1:30 unless you don't mind the rush! The soups are always fantastic! The sandwiches have always been amazing but this time it was just an average sandwich. It just didn't have the same wow factor to me. Maybe it was a one off but the staff was very quick and friendly. The poblano and cheese soup was very tasty and full of flavor.

Average. Not a bad spot, but I wasn't impressed by anything. I liked the ordering process, but the staff was not particularly friendly and the sandwiches all appeared to be relatively boring once they came out. Easy option if you're heading to the airport or hitting the road, but if speed isn't a factor, there are a lot of other options nearby.

This place stays hoppin. I love using their "business only delivery" to get lunch at work. I've gotten the French dip and the Cajun chicken, both large and super filling sandwiches. I've also had the small potato soup which is creamy and a good size for what you pay. They have so many options that you're bound to find something you like.

The menu is expensive and their sandwiches are soggy. Our office won't be ordering food from them again.

Unfortunate that this is the day I decided it was about time I left a review for House Of Bread…read more House of Bread is a lovely space, airy light dining room, and lots of baked goods, and artisanal-looking jarred goods. It feels very open. They have a menu on the wall, and a chalkboard with the types of bread available that day. Husband orders cheesy broccoli soup, and she tells him "it's not really cheesy broccoli soup, it's got lots of veggies in it too" ok, he says, but still orders a bowl. I choose Tuna Salad, and I select 14 grain as my bread choice - "sorry, we're out of that", so I then choose 9 grain - "sorry, we're out of that", and so I ask for marbled rye - "sorry, we're out of that too" I'm really quite surprised, as it's 12.30 like prime lunch time, and they're out of 3 breads already? Maybe cross them off your chalkboard, so you don't have to keep disappointing people. So i choose focaccia with my fingers crossed, and all was well. The order was complete at 12.36. We sit. We wait. Twiddling our fingers. By 20 minutes I'm becoming impatient, because I'm hangry, and the dining room is not that full - maybe 5 tables. As there are 4 staff working behind the counter (could be more round the back in the bakery) I think service could be faster, to dish up a bowl of premade soup, and assemble a cold tuna salad sandwich. Anyway i get my eye on the young man making sandwiches. He's not wearing gloves, is running his fingers through his hair, and touching his face. I see a sandwich that was on the top of the shelf, and it either fell, or he threw it, onto presumably a bench below, and then reach up angrily for a new bag of bread, I don't know - maybe he made it wrong, and was starting over. By 1.02, (26 minutes later) husband could take it no more and went to get a refund. This is not the review I expected to be leaving today, as I've never had service like this here before. I've never gone here before and had to choose my bread 4 times, due to them running out. I've never had to wait so long for lunch using pre-made ingredients. I don't know what was going on, but it's nothing like all the other times we've been here, and I hope it's a one off. If I go back and see the same staff, I'll just walk straight out again and avoid another experience like this one.

My friend wanted to stop by on her way from work & I remembered how impressed I was back in the Fall. I don't know what happened between then and now but I won't be going back. We stopped in just after 5pm, Thursday April 2nd. I saw a few things I was interested in buying for the family, but I had the feeling someone was staring at us. I looked up and saw the younger girl with multi-colored hair glaring at us while the older girl with colored hair was stacking chairs on tables. Google said they closed at 6pm, so I'm assuming she was mad we were interrupting their pre-close. After seeing the flattest "brownies", flatter than a cookie, the soggy zucchini bread with no date on the wrapper, the glare from the young girl behind the register and not one single "Hi" from the 3 employees working, ( the 3rd one was eating a sandwich behind the counter), I decided not to buy a single thing & not to ever come back. My friend bought 4 items & the glaring girl only spoke when she said the total, not even a "Would you like a bag?", "Thank You", "Enjoy your bread" or "Have a good night." Too bad. My friend & I were looking forward to having a coffee & snack & catching up after work.

I was right, as I walked in they sold the very last thing of what I wanted. But gosh am I glad- it forced me to try something new. I didnt take a picture because it was so cold out and my hands were frozen, but it was a beautiful, elongated bakery treat. It had lovely purple Ube cream and touch of oreo crumbs on top, the base was essential much like a flat cruller, but if higher quality. It was sensational! I bought my husband something that looked lower carb that had coffee cream that also enjoyed. I got my husband custom cold jasmine sugar free tea, and I got a frosty honeydew melon drink. It was a little spendy, but its nice to have a treat one on a while.

It's like a croissant baked in a waffle form, but a bit denser than a regular croissant. What really made it special was the Ube cream -- a light, buttery frosting that wasn't too sweet. Easily a 10/10 for me. I also ordered the Ube Cruffin, which had that same croissant-like texture in a muffin shape. The inside had a light cream filling, and the top was covered with the same Ube cream. It was good, but not quite as amazing as the Croffle -- 7/10. The Ham Banh Mi was tasty and filling (6/10), and the Boba Milk Tea was decent too (6/10). Oh and I got to taste their smoked salmon chowder that my friend ordered. Very good flavor, body, and richness (8/10). Everything I had was good but nothing that was as memorable as the Ube Croffle, but it wasn't cheap -- I spent a total $32 for a sandwich, drink and 2 pastries. Then again, prices in Alaska tend to be higher in general. Overall, even though I've only been once, I'd definitely come back for that Ube Croffle -- it was the real highlight!
