    The deck hand sandwich

The food was amazing. The steak was so tender and juicy. The spices were spot on. They were set up at Girdwood Brewery (I would suggest that place also). Sandwich was large and it was split and was definitely enough.

The dude is nice. The steak sandwich was amazing. Flavorfullllll It's refreshing at the same time because of arugula salad. It's next to brewery with amazing views. What more can you ask for. That first bite of that sandwich will make you pause for second, and you're gonna say, "This is a good sandwich

They should have a sign that reads sandwiches as big as your head! Such a great place to eat that any of the options will not disappoint. The sandwiches are warm and full meat with the perfect balance of cheese, sauce and other toppings. We ordered the Pig Pen and it was so delicious and big I could only eat half, we also ordered the signature sandwich The hungry deckhand........but because we wanted to try the menu we ordered the campsite for later. Even later in the evening it was so delicious. I am sad we tried this on our last night in the area because it's definitely worth frequent dining. The meat was freshly sliced and the sourdough bread was strong enough to hold up the meat and tasty fillings. We Loved everything about this experience from the personable owner/chef to all the food we ordered. Definitely a must try!

My beautiful wife!!! ohhh yea and the last few bites of my sandwich I couldn't put it down!

This Place Rocks!!! Staff is friendly and welcoming! They will help you if you have any questions. The food! Wow you won't be disappointed! The Hungry Deckhand named after the truck is kinda my go to! It's perfect! Plain and simple nothing if over powering or over taking in this sandwich. It's all blended well together! All of the sandwiches are good! The deserts are also great as a nice add on if you need that extra sweet treat. We have seen them at a few of our favorite brewery's! They bring some amazing food to some amazing places. They do travel and I mean travel! They have been to Valdez, Seward, Girdwood and all over Anchorage! Luckily my wife follows them on social media and we know where they are at all the time! Honestly one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. I love how it's not heavy or makes you feel heavy after eating it. We will be back again and again!

(note: I did not see this business listed on Yelp, so I listed them. I listed their address as Odd Man Rush, only because that's where they were when we went on 3/13/22.) After a day snowshoeing on the South Fork Eagle River Trail (https://www.yelp.com/biz/south-fork-eagle-river-trail-anchorage) We decided to grab a beer at Odd Man Rush. We were delighted to see a food truck there we had never seen before! Then saddened by the name. Why? It's a fine name it just...it evoked "fish and chip stand" in our heads. Something we like, but weren't in the mood for. We could not have gotten it more wrong. This place does BIG, RICH, HEARTY sandwiches. These things are a little spendy, but they are well worth the cost! You will leave satisfied! I got the Pig Pen and it was one of the better sandwiches I've had in Anchorage. IT's easily the best sandwich I've ever had with coleslaw on it. It was just such an inventive, original, fresh take on a BBQ sandwich. I was really, really impressed. To top it all off, the staff working offered some of the most kind, authentic service you will find this side of International House of Hotdogs and/or Papaya Tree. I'm not sure what their schedule is going to end up being but, as I said in the pre-intro: it looks like they are at Odd Man Rush on Sundays, at least for now.

When I first saw Odd Man Rush brewing post about this new sandwich centered food truck on their Instagram I knew I had to be one of the first to try them. Their sandwiches looked amazing, and the flavor combinations sounded even better. I also love supporting people who tackle their dreams of jumping into the food industry as it is something I long have been passionate about, and running a restaurant is no easy task. So on March 4th I went on over to Odd Man Rush brewing for their opening night operation. Odd Man Rush is always happening on Friday nights even more so now with their shiny new liquor license. So I was happy to see the food truck was busy. I ordered the pig pen and the ski bum, and waited about 45 minutes for my sammies to be ready. The staff was very kind, and I love that they use a buzzer system to let you know when your order is ready. Quick and efficient, and doesn't leave you hovering around the truck wondering if your food is ready yet so I was able to enjoy my beer while I waited. I took my sandwiches home so they weren't super warm by the time I ate them, but still delicious. I loved the pig pen. They smoke their own pork butt, and use bbq sauce from a local company. It was such a flavorful sandwich between the smoked meat, sauces and slaw. The ski bum was also good, but more on the simple side for my taste. I got it for my son. The bread on both sandwiches was perfectly crispy, but still soft. The sandwiches are filling even if the portion size seems a bit small! The sandwiches are a bit pricey for being only 1/2 a sandwich. I was also confused because all their photos show a full sized sandwich. But with the rising costs of literally everything I can understand. Just wish the advertisements would show what you're actually being served. All in all this food truck is awesome, and I couldn't think of a better treat while drinking then some delicious, unique sandwiches! Definitely check their social media to see where they'll be parked next! So far they've been to a few different breweries.

The Hungry Deckhand. When a restaurant names a signature dish after the business, you know they stand behind it.

This is the best sandwich I've had all year by a long shot! I know it's only February but I anticipate that this sandwich to hold its rank. Super friendly service too. Next time I'm in Girdwood, I'll be looking for this truck. If you're in the area, don't sleep on The Hungry Deckhand! I'm full and tempted to order another sandwich.

    Fresh and tasty!

These guys were at Alaska Legal Services Corporation Jammin' For Justice. They were great. Exceptional sandwiches and Alaskan made chips - yum! Excellent service and quality. Be sure to look for them - you will not be disappointed!

Yelp says I'm too far to check in; but I'm sitting in the parking lot. I think maybe this is because they are mobile. Holy deckhand, y'all! This monstrous sandwich is going to keep you full for days!! I ordered mine sans peppers and cheese; and it's done to perfection! I wish you guys could smell this sandwich through the app! The crew running the show is absolutely ah-mazing! They are so friendly and apologized my order took a few minutes longer than expected. I'm of the mindset that good food takes time. The menu is limited to four types of sandwiches; but don't let that hinder your arrival here. This way, it allows them to perfect it for their customers. I'm definitely going to eat here again!! I need to try all the sandwiches!

My partner got the Reuben and I got the Smokin' Mo Sandwich which is brisket, cheese and bbq. Finally some good brisket in town!! It was so good and tender. I was very happy with my order. It comes with a pickle which was nice and garlicky mmm mmm! Chips and slaw are optional sides, but I didn't partake. I also got latkes as I haven't had them since I was a child. They were good. They come with the traditional applesauce and sour cream. I found the portions generous - I came home with half a sandwich and 2 latkes to eat for dinner. The place is clean and has plenty of seats. They do breakfast all day. They also have Dr Browns soda from NY available by the can or case. The pickles can be bought too and all of their meats by the pound. We plan on coming to get some of the by the pound meats at another time. Staff was very friendly and helpful with answering any questions we had. Will definitely be back.

Unfortunate that this is the day I decided it was about time I left a review for House Of Bread…read more House of Bread is a lovely space, airy light dining room, and lots of baked goods, and artisanal-looking jarred goods. It feels very open. They have a menu on the wall, and a chalkboard with the types of bread available that day. Husband orders cheesy broccoli soup, and she tells him "it's not really cheesy broccoli soup, it's got lots of veggies in it too" ok, he says, but still orders a bowl. I choose Tuna Salad, and I select 14 grain as my bread choice - "sorry, we're out of that", so I then choose 9 grain - "sorry, we're out of that", and so I ask for marbled rye - "sorry, we're out of that too" I'm really quite surprised, as it's 12.30 like prime lunch time, and they're out of 3 breads already? Maybe cross them off your chalkboard, so you don't have to keep disappointing people. So i choose focaccia with my fingers crossed, and all was well. The order was complete at 12.36. We sit. We wait. Twiddling our fingers. By 20 minutes I'm becoming impatient, because I'm hangry, and the dining room is not that full - maybe 5 tables. As there are 4 staff working behind the counter (could be more round the back in the bakery) I think service could be faster, to dish up a bowl of premade soup, and assemble a cold tuna salad sandwich. Anyway i get my eye on the young man making sandwiches. He's not wearing gloves, is running his fingers through his hair, and touching his face. I see a sandwich that was on the top of the shelf, and it either fell, or he threw it, onto presumably a bench below, and then reach up angrily for a new bag of bread, I don't know - maybe he made it wrong, and was starting over. By 1.02, (26 minutes later) husband could take it no more and went to get a refund. This is not the review I expected to be leaving today, as I've never had service like this here before. I've never gone here before and had to choose my bread 4 times, due to them running out. I've never had to wait so long for lunch using pre-made ingredients. I don't know what was going on, but it's nothing like all the other times we've been here, and I hope it's a one off. If I go back and see the same staff, I'll just walk straight out again and avoid another experience like this one.

My friend wanted to stop by on her way from work & I remembered how impressed I was back in the Fall. I don't know what happened between then and now but I won't be going back. We stopped in just after 5pm, Thursday April 2nd. I saw a few things I was interested in buying for the family, but I had the feeling someone was staring at us. I looked up and saw the younger girl with multi-colored hair glaring at us while the older girl with colored hair was stacking chairs on tables. Google said they closed at 6pm, so I'm assuming she was mad we were interrupting their pre-close. After seeing the flattest "brownies", flatter than a cookie, the soggy zucchini bread with no date on the wrapper, the glare from the young girl behind the register and not one single "Hi" from the 3 employees working, ( the 3rd one was eating a sandwich behind the counter), I decided not to buy a single thing & not to ever come back. My friend bought 4 items & the glaring girl only spoke when she said the total, not even a "Would you like a bag?", "Thank You", "Enjoy your bread" or "Have a good night." Too bad. My friend & I were looking forward to having a coffee & snack & catching up after work.

I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food.
