What an absolutely incredible experience at the Hungry Deckhand food truck! From the moment I approached, the smells coming from this truck set the stage for a fantastic meal. The staff at the window were so friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their amazing menu. Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the Hungry Deckhand sandwich! The steak was simply outstanding, a delicious coffee rub that added an incredible depth of flavor. It was perfectly shaved and nestled between crunchy, perfectly grilled bread, topped with amazing melted cheese. The grilled veggies and fresh arugula created a delightful balance of taste and texture. By far my favorite sandwich on the menu!!!! We discovered this gem at the Girdwood Brewery Company, and the outdoor eating experience surrounded by mountains was the perfect backdrop for enjoying these incredible sammies!!! Whether you're a local or just passing through, this food truck is an absolute must-visit. I can't recommend it highly enough!! Five stars all the way! I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

They should have a sign that reads sandwiches as big as your head! Such a great place to eat that any of the options will not disappoint. The sandwiches are warm and full meat with the perfect balance of cheese, sauce and other toppings. We ordered the Pig Pen and it was so delicious and big I could only eat half, we also ordered the signature sandwich The hungry deckhand........but because we wanted to try the menu we ordered the campsite for later. Even later in the evening it was so delicious. I am sad we tried this on our last night in the area because it's definitely worth frequent dining. The meat was freshly sliced and the sourdough bread was strong enough to hold up the meat and tasty fillings. We Loved everything about this experience from the personable owner/chef to all the food we ordered. Definitely a must try! read more

This Place Rocks!!! Staff is friendly and welcoming! They will help you if you have any questions. The food! Wow you won't be disappointed! The Hungry Deckhand named after the truck is kinda my go to! It's perfect! Plain and simple nothing if over powering or over taking in this sandwich. It's all blended well together! All of the sandwiches are good! The deserts are also great as a nice add on if you need that extra sweet treat. We have seen them at a few of our favorite brewery's! They bring some amazing food to some amazing places. They do travel and I mean travel! They have been to Valdez, Seward, Girdwood and all over Anchorage! Luckily my wife follows them on social media and we know where they are at all the time! Honestly one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. I love how it's not heavy or makes you feel heavy after eating it. We will be back again and again! read more

The Hungry Deckhand - My beautiful wife!!! ohhh yea and the last few bites of my sandwich I couldn't put it down! - Sandwiches Near Me

(note: I did not see this business listed on Yelp, so I listed them. I listed their address as Odd Man Rush, only because that's where they were when we went on 3/13/22.) After a day snowshoeing on the South Fork Eagle River Trail (https://www.yelp.com/biz/south-fork-eagle-river-trail-anchorage) We decided to grab a beer at Odd Man Rush. We were delighted to see a food truck there we had never seen before! Then saddened by the name. Why? It's a fine name it just...it evoked "fish and chip stand" in our heads. Something we like, but weren't in the mood for. We could not have gotten it more wrong. This place does BIG, RICH, HEARTY sandwiches. These things are a little spendy, but they are well worth the cost! You will leave satisfied! I got the Pig Pen and it was one of the better sandwiches I've had in Anchorage. IT's easily the best sandwich I've ever had with coleslaw on it. It was just such an inventive, original, fresh take on a BBQ sandwich. I was really, really impressed. To top it all off, the staff working offered some of the most kind, authentic service you will find this side of International House of Hotdogs and/or Papaya Tree. I'm not sure what their schedule is going to end up being but, as I said in the pre-intro: it looks like they are at Odd Man Rush on Sundays, at least for now. read more

I was in Girdwood today at the brewery and I was in the mood for some food. I at first thought what was the play and I decided to get a sandwich. I landed on the campsite 23 which was amazing...maybe the best sandwich I have ever had. Wait there is more after enjoying a brew at the brewery it was dinner time so we ordered the Famous Deckhand and it was even more amazing the prime rib was perfection and the taste was amazing. I met the owners as well and they were the most amazing people and you can tell they truly care about the food. I will be back many times, the quality of food is the best i have had in Alaska. When I first saw Odd Man Rush brewing post about this new sandwich centered food truck on their Instagram I knew I had to be one of the first to try them. Their sandwiches looked amazing, and the flavor combinations sounded even better. I also love supporting people who tackle their dreams of jumping into the food industry as it is something I long have been passionate about, and running a restaurant is no easy task. So on March 4th I went on over to Odd Man Rush brewing for their opening night operation. Odd Man Rush is always happening on Friday nights even more so now with their shiny new liquor license. So I was happy to see the food truck was busy. I ordered the pig pen and the ski bum, and waited about 45 minutes for my sammies to be ready. The staff was very kind, and I love that they use a buzzer system to let you know when your order is ready. Quick and efficient, and doesn't leave you hovering around the truck wondering if your food is ready yet so I was able to enjoy my beer while I waited. I took my sandwiches home so they weren't super warm by the time I ate them, but still delicious. I loved the pig pen. They smoke their own pork butt, and use bbq sauce from a local company. It was such a flavorful sandwich between the smoked meat, sauces and slaw. The ski bum was also good, but more on the simple side for my taste. I got it for my son. The bread on both sandwiches was perfectly crispy, but still soft. The sandwiches are filling even if the portion size seems a bit small! The sandwiches are a bit pricey for being only 1/2 a sandwich. I was also confused because all their photos show a full sized sandwich. But with the rising costs of literally everything I can understand. Just wish the advertisements would show what you're actually being served. All in all this food truck is awesome, and I couldn't think of a better treat while drinking then some delicious, unique sandwiches! Definitely check their social media to see where they'll be parked next! So far they've been to a few different breweries. read more

This is the best sandwich I've had all year by a long shot! I know it's only February but I anticipate that this sandwich to hold its rank. Super friendly service too. The Hungry Deckhand - The Hungry Deckhand. When a restaurant names a signature dish after the business, you know they stand behind it. - Sandwiches Near Me

BIG sandwiches! Nice people! They are following their dream and it shows in their attitude, their truck, everything. They have been open for about a year now. They take two pieces of big Seattle sourdough bread, put cheese between them, then stack them with all kinds of things like pulled pork or shaved steak. The sandwiches they offer may vary but often have The hungry deckhand or the pig pen. You are actually getting two pieces of giant Seattle sourdough they just stack them with cheese in between so it looks like a half sandwich. Can't wait to see when they have a full menu and have their breakfast sandwiches. They even have desserts sometimes. Give them a try! read more

Had the Hungry Deckhand Sandwich minus mushrooms. Deliciously marinated ribeye meat, with tangy grilled onions, peppers, basalmic arugula, sandwiched between two thin grilled cheeses is ultimate gluttony. Sooo good. Located and open at Girdwood Brewery on a Saturday. Pairs nicely with the brewery beers, and the brewery welcomes you to bring your food inside. Lovely atmosphere and great people with quick service. read more

Best sandwich ever! So hot delicious and fresh!!!!! Highly recommended the pig pen. My friend and I both got it and wow wow wow

Well Yelp wouldn't let me check in, today they are at King Street Brewing and doing an awesome job!!! Super friendly, the truck is BEAUTIFUL and I love the sandwich choices! Today I tried the Campsite 23, and let me tell ya the sandwich is DELICIOUS! They had a nice steady stream on customers from the brewery and everyone was super stoked to be dining on such great sandwiches. The owners are amazing, like couldn't be happier to be making their dreams come true. Good food from super happy folx!!! Yelp says I'm too far to check in; but I'm sitting in the parking lot. I think maybe this is because they are mobile. Holy deckhand, y'all! This monstrous sandwich is going to keep you full for days!! I ordered mine sans peppers and cheese; and it's done to perfection! I wish you guys could smell this sandwich through the app! The crew running the show is absolutely ah-mazing! They are so friendly and apologized my order took a few minutes longer than expected. I'm of the mindset that good food takes time. The menu is limited to four types of sandwiches; but don't let that hinder your arrival here. This way, it allows them to perfect it for their customers. I'm definitely going to eat here again!! I need to try all the sandwiches! read more

We found their food truck at Girdwood brewery. We ordered three of their sandwiches- the Deckhand, Pig Pen, Campsite. Makes me want to visit the main restaurant. read more

Excellent sandwiches. Tender, peppery steak. Perfect balance of sweet and salty. So good.

This sandwich changed my life. All other sandwiches pale in comparison. Very good food and very friendly owners.

I thought I already posted a review. I am NOT happy that Yelp tanked it. I hope this one gets posted. I don't know how this place has so many 5 star reviews. The Hungry Deckhand is literally the worst sandwich I've ever had in my life! For $17 I was expecting a pretty epic sandwich. It was epic, all right, just not in the way that I was expecting! I chumped off and tried them out at the food truck roundup on Spenard on Thursday. I should have known that I would have a problem because this was the only food truck without a line. I ordered their eponymous sandwich, the Hungry Deckhand, which was *supposed* to be juicy beef, peppers and mushrooms with swiss, provolone, bacon and arugula on sourdough. What I got was the driest beef sandwich I've ever seen, NO bacon, NO peppers, ONE tiny mushroom, and ONE piece of swiss and provolone each, not that I could taste it, because they were each sandwiched between 2 half slices of sourdough like a grilled cheese sandwich, with the dry as the Sahara beef in between the two cheese sandwiches. Btw, no butter or mayonnaise was harmed in the making of this sandwich! I feared for my teeth in the 2 bites I took of this sandwich. Everything but the arugula was dry, and arugula alone was not enough to save this abomination. I would have taken it back and complained but Thursday just wasn't my day. My dining companion ran late to the point of missing lunch entirely, so I ended up just taking my bag of food back to my apartment. I didn't even think to check it first so by the time I realized that I'd been had, it was past 2pm and the trucks were gone. Just compare my pics of the actual sandwich with the ones that the owners staged. Then eat elsewhere. BTW, that half sandwich IS the WHOLE thing! I paid $17 for HALF a sandwich! read more

I have the Campsite 23 sandwich. It hit the spot without being an greasy mess other places may sell you. The arugula was an amazing flavor full touch. btw, i binned the rest of the 'sandwich' if I pay that much for a piece of meat, I'd like to at least taste it. lesson learned

Best sandwich I've had in ages! Not exaggerating when I say that it really hit the spot. Melting the cheese between double pieces of bread is a different way of achieving it, thereby eliminating it dripping all over the other ingredients/your hands! This separates the two, but, when you bite into it WOW!! all kinds of flavors mix together in a great combination!! We had the Hungry Deckhand and the Pig Pen sandwiches. Service was great, VERY friendly, and the buzzer (when your order was ready) was a nice touch. When you see them, get your order in!! You WON'T be disappointed! read more
