Went to Double Shovel last night for both a growler refill and to finally try Mountain Pies. The hubs and I decided to order a little bit of everything... 9" Pierogi Pizza, Meat & Cheese Stromboli, Waffle Fries and Smoked Dry Rub wings (with ranch... of course). Oh my word, their waffle fries with the dry rub seasoning are unreal! Those were gone immediately. Don't hesitate on this. Just order the fries. Probably two orders actually. Then onto the pizza and stromboli, which were piping hot still. Their pizzas are the perfect size. We were starving after not eating all day, so it would have been a hefty serving for one adult, but not us last night. I really enjoyed the Pierogi pizza- Garlic, mashed potatoes, cheese and onion. However, the husbands Meat and cheese Stromboli was the real MVP. Filling to crust ratio was perfect, with a solid amount of meats yet did not cause the crust to go soggy (this is super impressive and much appreciated). Finally the wings... nom noms. A wing aficionado may have taken issue with the smaller sized wings. But I personally don't mind considering the serving size was still a pound and they were cooked perfectly. We're a big fan of Cajun style dry rub wings so I'll point out that these are very different but they aren't advertised as Cajun dry rub so maybe a moot point. Their dry rub is sweet, but you could still get a bit of smoke through it. With the ranch dip, it was a good combo. We look forward to trying the sauced ones next time. However, for anyone who wants to enjoy a good wing without making a mess, this is your answer! All in all, Mountain Pies now holds the number one spot for food trucks on our list (which says a lot because...IDoughKnow). Long story short, I ordered one banana bungalow waffle ($12, really?) for myself. The guy in front of me in line ordered a total of 5 waffles for himself and his family. The girl taking orders told him the wait would be about 35 minutes, so I figured mine would take about the same time. Spoiler: it did not. It took just over an hour. And to top it off, the waffle didn't live up to my expectations. The edges were burned and something about the cream tasted off, like it wasn't as fresh. Before they open again next spring, they really need to figure out a more efficient way to run their business. Hire more people, get more equipment, allow people to call/text in orders, something. Maybe even limit how many waffles one person can order because I would have had mine sooner if not for the people who ordered 10 waffles for their party. Because waiting over an hour for ONE waffle when that's all you make is ridiculous.
