We stopped in for lunch today and it's changed a little since the last time we visited. The food is good, not as good as I remember but still really good. We sat in the back room this time and it's well smelly. Like old building/people smell. We got a cheese pizza and the pizza man special. Everything is made when you order it so plan on waiting a bit. My sister got the salad bar and that was still spot on. I ate a few of her lettuce leaves and dressing lol. The pizza man special has pepperoni, salami, sausage, black olives, green peppers, extra cheese and we added tomato on top. Oh and extra sauce one one half. On my half i said no black olives, add extra sauce. Well that extra sauce cause my dough to be raw. The other side was cooked fine. But yall they made a whole new pizza and we took it to go. Except this time we did the sauce on the side. We now have enough pizza everyone can get 2 slices.

I'm impressed. The meatball pizza (add ricotta) AMAZING! The crust is so good and I love a good crust. It's a no frills, dive type place but the service is friendly and the pizza was delicious! They accommodated our party of 9 with a smile. This could be a 5 star review if they clean the place up more and invest in better decor.

With 8 visits under our belt it's time to put pen to paper regarding Pizzaman. It gets a decent thumbs up from us. They have the most complete salad bar I've seen in a long time. Kidney beans, baby corn, chickpeas, cucs, shrooms, eggs and much, much more. You can order the return trip SB (we have) and forget everything else. The food is good, not great. I must say I had a teriyaki reindeer dinner over rice that was very tasty. The portion was so big I only finished half. It heated up nicely at home, too. I didn't care for their spaghetti or the lasagna. Let's talk pizza. They are in the top three for pizza with us. While they are a bit heavy on the sauce, the ingredients were terrific. Again, this heated up very well at home the next day. The biggest issue we have is the service. Very bad. Each time we visit there's a huge party in the back room. They are understaffed for starters and their timing is not the best. When the salad arrives WITH the pizza or it's fifteen minutes between visits from the server, there's a problem. Over the weekend, we were so hungry and waited for an initial visit for so long, we just grabbed plates and went to the salad bar. The host was good enough to fetch us drinks. But the server never showed. Even though he said she was aware (not to mention she walked past us several times) she never stopped at the table until she greeted us by dropping off the check. We tipped him. This happened on a Saturday when the Bear Paw festival drew most of their customers away. Carry out may be your best bet on this place and avoid the iced tea. Watered down and zero flavour. 07/22

Pizzaman has is one of Eagle Rivers oldest and best restaurants. They make excellent pizza and Italian meals and sandwiches. The pizza is made from fresh ingredients and baked to your request. They have several house named pizzas that will satisfy most diners desires. But if none of their creations are what you want, they give you an opportunity to design your own pizza from a large selection of ingredients. They have a salad bar that you can choose to make your own salad with their prepared vegetables and salad makings or they will bring you a different salad. They have several delicious desserts. A very long list of craft brewed excellent and regional beers in an iced mug, schooner, or pitcher. They have hard ciders and domestic beers. They have the normal selection of non-alcoholic drinks. There is a large number of tables and booths that are often filled for both lunch and dinner. They offer carry out and delivery and you can sign up for a points loyalty program. They also have lunch specials every day during Monday to Friday. Pizzaman does serve alcohol, but it is definitely a family place. They have parking on both sides of the street and behind the restaurant. Parking does get very crowded during lunch and peak dining times. It is a great place to eat.

The pizza here reminds me of moose's tooth pizza. I definitely go here every time I work in Eagle River. The pizza is very greasy! Enjoy!

The parking lot was packed so we weren't surprised to find a busy dining room. We were told it would be a 15 minutes wait but it was actually closet to 5 minutes. Service was friendly and attentive - I ordered a coffee and it was refilled constantly throughout the entire meal which I appreciate. You'd be surprised how often that little detail gets ignored at other breakfast/brunch places. I ordered the Birria hash and it was a lovely surprise - very flavorful with tender, juicy beef over crispy fried potatoes. I loved the different sauces, salsa, pickled onions, and even sour cream self-service bar from which I helped myself to some of their delicious avocado sauce and molcajete sauce. My companion said her crab Benedict was delicious and very filling. Food portions were generous, I had enough food to take home with me for a second meal. The ambiance of the place was impressive - sort of a modern Mexican feel with some fun details like the grocery items lined up on the wall above the registers. I will definitely be back to try some of the intriguing menu items I didn't get a chance to try. I didn't have any room left to try dessert so I'll have to do that next time!

Their level of engagement was less than minimal. - Several of the machines were out of service. This is a small shop to begin with. With so few flavors to chose from, its not really very enjoyable trying to figure out what flavors will work together. Not a good selection of flavors that work well together. Yuck - Many of the toppings were stale or rotten or under-ripe. Pineapple, rotten. Strawberries mix of rotten and underripe. And the mochi, MOCHI.... half of it was bad. Did you know it coukd go bad?!?! I didn't. Sigh... Give the lack of engagement of the staff, this did not surprise me. How long did some of that stuff have to be sitting out to go bad? Taiyaki is a delicious Japanese street food. A fish shaped pastry stuffed with filling like read…read morebean paste & custard. In the warmer months the taiyaki are also stuffed with soft serve ice cream. This street food has become popular in the USA with dedicated taiyaki ice cream spots popping up, and we finally have a shop in Alaska that serves this delectable treat. Softer opened at the end of December in the Diamond center food court. I went to check them out in February, and the taiyaki were fresh, crispy, and had a decent amount of filling. Now the taiyaki wasn't the same consistency as the ones I had in Japan, but it's not really fair to compare things in Alaska to their country of origin. The texture wasn't 100% correct, but it was pretty nicely crispy, and not overly chewy. I had heard from a few other people that when they went the texture wasn't correct & too chewy so consistency may be a bit of an issue, but they are a new business to that can be rectified. The soft serve ice cream was also very good. I ordered 2 "upside down" Taiyaki ice creams which comes with choice of 2 toppings. You can just order a Taiyaki filled with ice cream which doesn't come on a cup, or the Taiyaki pastry on its own without ice cream. If you're not feeling the Taiyaki you can also just get the soft serve ice cream, a milkshake, or a snow bowl (this looks like a variation of bingsu). I ordered chocolate soft serve with a Nutella filled Taiyaki topped with sprinkles, and a matcha/chocolate swirl soft serve with an ube filled Taiyaki topped with Oreo & graham cracker crumbs. The portion size on the soft serve was good for the price ($7). The chocolate ice cream was standard chocolate soft serve, but I really liked the Nutella taiyaki. The matcha ice cream actually had a strong, and not overly artificial matcha tea flavor. Next time I won't get it swirled with chocolate as the chocolate overpowered the matcha. I don't know if I'd get the ube filled taiyaki again. The ube filling was pretty artificial so it's not my preference. The toppings were also fairly sparse, but that doesn't really matter to me. Overall it's a great treat. Service was quick when we went. There was no line, and you just order at a kiosk & the person makes what you order. It's located right in the mall food court by the ice rink so if you're looking for ambiance it's not really going to be this place. I definitely will be back to get some Taiyaki ice cream again, and maybe try their snow bowls. Excited to have something different in Anchorage! This place is definitely a good spot next time you want some soft serve ice cream.
