I was lucky enough to work nearby and they were nice enough to provide some pizzas for the staff. It started with pizza and moved on to chicken wings with fries and other sandwich's! Honestly, I really like that you get french fries with chicken wings. It makes you feel like you're getting a lot more and I do appreciate that. Sparta Pizza was quick with our order of 2 Large pizzas late in the last few moments of their shift! They took good care of us. The pizzas were 1. Fully loaded and 2. Pepperoni. My family and I discovered sparta this summer after new management took over and we were thrilled. We ended up ordering multiple items nearly every day for weeks. I raved about the food to everyone and even pushed the company I work for to order from them. Then one day the food changed. I thought it was a fluke. Everyone has bad days. But I have ordered from them 4 more times over the next few months and every time I am disappointed. Today is the worse yet. I ordered 3 pizzas which cost me nearly $80 and they are inedible. I ordered a large, thin crust Chicken and feta, a Large regular crust pepperoni, sausage, hamburger, olive, Feta Greek style, and a small Canadian bacon and pineapple. ALL of the pizzas were thin, hard as a rock, congealed/overcooked cheese, bordered on burnt, and no sauce on any. My hubby and son ate it because they were hungry but it's too hard for me to even attempt. Im so upset. Ive wasted $80, steered people to bad quality food and am still hungry. read more

Warning! The Gyro has CRATERED! They went from a traditional carved meat to the Costco processed meat. Do not purchase the Gyro anymore! We used to order Sparta twice a week it was one of our favorite spots. The last 4 or 5 times we ordered the food was just off. Thinking of giving them one more chance last night we got the Philly cheesesteak and pizza with a salad. Pizza and salad we good...but Philly will make us never order from them again. I give this place a 9/10. I have never ever had a calzone as good as this place. They are so huge too, it's really worth the $17 in my opinion. They were soooo cheesy and pack full of toppings they definitely were not cheap with it. Only thing is the building is so small I wish there was more room. Highly recommend!!!!!!! So this place is underrated. I called for delivery at 4:45 pm and they told me the time would be an hour to an hour and a half. It came in under 45 minutes!! Between the service I received and the delivery time they were already at 4 stars. Then when the food showed up piping hot and beautiful that 5th Star was inevitable. We ordered the combination pizza with pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon, onion, pepper, olive, extra cheese and thick crust topped with fresh tomatoes. It was exactly like the description. Hearty, full of meat and veggies, and very big and filling. We also ordered the garlic bread which was insanely good and and a Philly cheesesteak with sweet peppers. It is huge!! This is a big sandwich full of lots of meat. The meat is seasoned perfect and we barely made it through half the sandwich. It was so good I had to go back and try it again. And it was still good. Sparta pizza is amazing! It's pretty much a whole in the wall pizza place. But they have so many great options to choose from. The Cesar salads are amazing. The pizza is always good, the crust on it is perfect. You don't have to ask for thick crust. I would say my favorite sandwich is the Italian Sandwich it has so much flavor and the size of the sandwich is huge. I usually only finish half of it cause it's the size of a calzone! I've ordered pizza for takeout from them twice online using Eat24. Both times I got an estimate of 10-35 minutes, which is a pretty broad time range. Both times the pizza took around 30-35 minutes. The inside of the restaurant has little seating space, so you're better off taking your order to go. The first time I tried the Greek Spinach pizza and I really enjoyed it. The toppings were fresh and the crust was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, which I prefer over thin crust. Last night I decided to try the Gyro pizza. It was pretty salty and too heavy on the tzatziki sauce for my taste. Still, it was pretty good and the tomatoes on top were freshly cut. Their pizzas only come in 16" for the Greek specialty pizzas so I wish they offered a smaller option. The pizzas were $22-23, which is a bit spendy but you do get you money's worth. The plain cheese and pepperoni pizzas are less expensive but still more pricey than other options in town. To summarize, decent pizza but not outstanding. You can get something cheaper and/or better quality elsewhere. Next time I plan to try Greek dishes, like the spankopita and chicken souvlaki. read more

I saw this place a few doors down from the Starbucks on Dimond and Old Seward in a small strip mall and I was curious to try it out. Before Sparta Pizza, this place used to be Sorrento's Pizza back in the 90's. The restaurant itself has a very small seating area with sports playing on a TV in the corner but most customers usually place an order for pick-up or delivery. The woman behind the counter was friendly but also overwhelmed between phone orders and pick-ups. It would probably help to get another person behind the front counter for the dinner rush to ease her workload and shorten the wait time for customers picking up food. Sparta's has a good selection of pizzas, Greek dishes, and Philly Cheese steaks on their menu. I decided to get the Philly Bomb Cheesesteak which had sliced top sirloin, Swiss cheese, Geneva salami, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and black olives on toasted Italian bread. I only had to wait for about ten minutes for the food to arrive which was pretty good considering how busy they were with phone orders. The Philly sandwich was humongous with lots of cheese and grilled vegetables. This was delicious with the lightly-toasted bread and the crispy crinkle-cut fries on the side. Some of the other cheesesteak selections include the Philly Pepperoni with a generous amount of pepperoni added with Swiss, and the Pizza-Steak with red sauce. The pizzas are made either traditional or Greek style. Some of the notable ones are the Gyro Pizza (garlic butter, gyro meat, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, feta, and mozzarella cheese topped with cucumber sauce), the Mama Mia (pepperoni, Canadian bacon, Italian sausage, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and black olives with a thick crust and extra cheese), and the Chicken Ranch (grilled chicken, parsley, fresh tomatoes, red onions, mushrooms, feta, mozzarella cheese, and ranch dressing). They also have a good variety of Greek dishes that include Moussaka (layers of eggplant, potatoes, and ground beef topped with Béchamel, a white sauce), the Spanakopita or Spinach Pie (sautéed spinach, onions, and feta cheese wrapped in filo pastry), and the Sparta Calzone (filled with gyro meat, mushrooms, onions, feta, ricotta, and mozzarella served with marinara sauce). Greek cuisine is one of my favorites and I plan on coming back to try out their Moussaka but with the small seating area, take-out or delivery is the way to go. read more

If you are ordering delivery - don't bother. They no longer use their own delivery person and GRUBHUB is delivering for them. We ordered $70 worth of food with a 20% tip and they were about an hour late. When we called the restaurant to find out what the issue was, we got nothing but attitude and rudeness. I get that you might be busy on a Friday night, so when an order is 60 minutes late, you offer the customer 20% off their next order, or a free pizza coupon. It's obvious this restaurant doesn't care about the customer. Our food was cold, fries were limp, and it was $70 thrown in the trash. Got a couple options for delivery last nicht; the spinach calzone and the classic gyro. Gyro was not thinly sliced like I like, but had great tzatziki sauce. That was the highlight of that meal. I did like the flavor of the meat though. Didn't enjoy the freedom fries. When I tried to swap them out with a salad chick on the phone apologized but said they don't like to do that. Not sure who they are. The spinach calzone was pretty tasty. One critique would be to cut up the spinach first, though I'm pretty happy they use real spinach and not the frozen variety. I've loved this place for years. The food is consistent and always super tasty. It's our go-to when neither of us know what we want to eat. We almost always do takeout here because the family is usually out and one parent calls the other saying "We're getting Sparta". The only things our family typically orders are the regular gyros, chicken wings or the Greek salad. We've done pizza a few times (super yum) and we've also ordered the baklava a few times; the baklava is delicious if you are lucky enough to be able to order it. My daughter ordered the Philly tonght(she must be on a kick) and said it was super delicious. I didn't read the prior reviews but I'm sure they have complaints about the time it takes to get the food or maybe even the service. I've eaten in there a few times, there are only four small tables for a reason. They are proud of their food and cook it to order, be prepared to wait. Cute little restaurant in a strip mall opposite the Dimond Mall. The food is excellent, best Greek salad and Spanokopita I have ever had (my son loved his pizza as well). Food was fast, hot and tasty. Parking out front was easy as well. Only downside was the greeter and the delivery boy seem to be very young (mid to late teenagers) and I'm assuming related to the owner. The food isn't bad but it isn't amazing. The wings are really good but could easily be a hit or miss, I'd rather get my wings from Winky Wings which are always very crispy and spicy ! Sometimes Sparta can have squishy wings because there's so much sauce. Pizza wise it's quite tasty and affordable, no Moose's Tooth but it's definitely good for a 2AM munchie.
