It's about time for a review updated. South has grown on me over the past few years. Their breakfast is probably my favorite meal service followed by their seasonal Happy Hour. Decent service, average food, chic fun atmosphere, but we really felt ripped off with the hidden charges and exorbitant price of the meals. We ordered several meals between 2 adults and 3 kids in addition to an appetizer and drink. They're are listed in order of favorite to least favorite: Calamari Seafood pasta Fish and chips Kids fried chicken and rice Scallop Risotto House margarita Kids dessert (house made sorbet) The server asked what soup or salad we would like within the meal, and little did we know, it would be an additional $7 up charge for each. In addition, the margarita was all ice, and tasted like your typical Jose Cuervo margarita. The calamari was good and fairly thick, enjoyed by everyone. The seafood pasta had a good flavor and loaded with seafood, truly the one meal I enjoyed. The fish and chips had 3 large portions of halibut, with a heavy fried batter, and average fries. It didn't taste better than your average fish and chips, and I'm glad I didn't personally order this dish. The kids chicken and rice had a surprisingly large amount of chicken with bland rice. The scallop risotto, just simply wasn't very good, it wasn't bland, but the flavor was lacking, and of the 3 that tried it, no one ate much. The kids dessert was called house made sorbet, and my kiddos were so excited to eat it. They tried one bite and almost cried, he said it tasted like broccoli, and I laughed and tried it myself...no kidding, this tasted like broccoli!! It's been like 8 years since I've been here since my last visit was so bad. This time around was just a touch better but I just can't say this is a favorite place of mine. I tried the avocado chicken melt sandwich, one of the specials for February. It was a flop, not a great medley of flavors. I mostly tasted the raw purple onion and the limp moistness of the roasted bell pepper strips. I couldn't detect any Gouda and I was also searching for the heat of the chipotle mayo that was listed on the menu description. It came with fries which were the perfect mix of crisp and tender, also perfectly seasoned. My spouse tried the halibut tacos. The batter they fry them in is bulky and unnecessary. The fish doesn't even fit correctly in the taco shell which makes it incredibly difficult to eat with your hands. Our child tried the salmon rice plate off the kids menu. The salmon was char grilled a touch over and was tough and too black in places. It did appear to be wild salmon though, which was a plus. It came with a little dish of fruit and a yummy seasonal scoop of sorbet which we all loved. Ambiance was ok. It is well lit, and was super sunny for our visit. I did notice in the sunlight that no one is dusting some of the surfaces in the restaurant. We also were sat inches away from a central table that was a hub of activity for servers grabbing ketchup, water jugs, cutlery, etc. and they would rush past brushing up against my chair. It felt confining and I was uncomfortable since I was cradling my sleeping baby in my lap at the time. Our server was very polite, but fairly impersonal and distant like they were on autopilot. My youngest sister highly recommended and has fond memories of this restaurant and coffeehouse. Highly recommend getting any entree that features an AK symbol which means the restaurant uses a product native to Alaska. Two for one which are unique to the restaurant: Polar Bear Breakfast with huge, flat pancakes and AK reindeer sausage. My sisters and uncle loved the unique pancakes. I definitely missed out because I wasn't aware of the pancakes' unique features. I opted for French Toast which was yummy, yet common. I loved the AK reindeer sausage! Mild with great texture, not gamey. Reindeer sausage is what most people refer to like it's the norm. Just tell it like it is! However, if you're concerned about a person's reaction, you're more than welcome to say venison. Halibut is also well known in this state. Vodka Battered Fish + Chips is another popular item on the menu. Restrooms included between restaurant and coffee shop next door. My friends and I enjoyed our time here, the ambiance is super nice but I should start by mentioning that we had to wait almost an hour to be seated for brunch on a Saturday so beware!!! I enjoyed my eggs Benedict with crab cakes, the sausage is reindeer sausage which had a distinct flavor but my body did not agree with so I will not be trying that again. My friends got the classic eggs Benny and pancakes, eggs, sausage. The pancake was more like a crepe, my friend did not enjoy it too much but overall it was a nice place to try. Mimosa central! My friend and I had brunch and tried the Croque Madame. Very good! The pecan roll could have fed four, happily. Eclectic ambiance.....classy, kinda shabby chic and artsy. I have celiac, ordered Huevos Divorcias, the dish was excellent, and did not make me sick. I was told the kitchen staff took special care to avoid cross-contamination and there was a little "allergy" tooth pick flag in my food. It's always a good experience when I don't get sick from restaurant food! I'd go back to South on a less busy day/time. read more

I love this place. My only group is price. I understand it's nice stuff. But it seems to be having the southside tax. The southside taxes, any place that charges a little bit of a premium being on southside. It's not too bad here, but the price is definitely different than some of the other locations The food is fantastic. I have not had a bad meal here. My wife loves the boomtown pasta with fried chicken. I like anything that's on the menu honestly have not tried anything, but I didn't like. Places a little bit upscale, but you can still show up in your muck boots I'm not be turned away. They have a fantastic gin selection and that's why I like this location. Mine favorite has been the pasta seafood, Mushroom Ajillo, clams, calamari, Pita lamb, etc. I had the macadam croquette once for brunch and that was a little too heavy for me. When we come with the kids, there is a good selection for them as well. Love the trendy decor and the seasonal menu. We seen big party here to couples just going out. Came for dinner with some friends. I got a mango bramble drink with dried flowers- no alcohol but fancy! I probly wouldn't get it again, was supposed to have but didn't taste any and I had to mix it to taste ok. Too much floral taste to it. For dinner since I wasn't very hungry I didn't get my usual. Instead I tried the Mac and cheese and it was very tasty! Very creamy with sharp white cheddar, penne noodles, and bacon. The bacon was very salty. Cheese was not gritty or anything. I also got a side Caesar salad. It was fine. Do t think it had parm cheese and not a lot of croutons. I think they messed up on our food because other tables seated way after us got their food fast. I think they may have accidentally given one plate to the wrong table and had to remake. However the server never relayed any info to us. We were just observant. My friend didn't like her halibut and the rice was cold that came with it. They took it off her check and she got the Mac and cheese cause she tried a bite of mine. The portion is like a little cast iron skillet about 6" maybe. Not too big but fine paired with a salad or really to share as a side. I want to try the Mediterranean platter but don't want to pay $30 for it. I've gotten the same server twice in a row and he is ok, kind of quiet and awkward but gets the job done. They have one of the best brunch menus in town! On my most recent visit, I ordered the French toast served with fresh strawberries. This is easily one of the best French toasts in town! I enjoyed a "dirty Diana" which is champagne,, grapefruit, creme de violette, honey simple syrup. It pairs really well with the French toast. Service was excellent as usual. Oh, South Restaurant. We are going to have to take a break, again. A few years ago, we decided to take a break from South due to inconsistent quality of the food. We came back to South last year (2024) and have been visiting regularly; we are there once or twice monthly as they are nearby and we appreciate the the general ambiance of the restaurant. Tonight will be another break-up. Everything was wonderful up until I received my $44 filet which I had requested medium rare. It was medium well to well when it came to me. We asked to have the plate redone... my husband finished his plate before I saw my dinner. The server was able to get our dessert order out before my dinner. Would I recommend this place? Sure, if it was the first time anyone went there. I would recommend to do anything they don't have to cook. The salads are delicious, the kabobs of grilled chicken are typically well cooked. Just be warned. Don't get the filet, they can't do it. Even the re-do they sent us home with was overdone. Also, don't count on the Fresh Sheet dessert. Most nights it isn't available. In September they had a delicious tiramisu on the fresh sheet. I had a girlfriend dinner at South just because of that tiramisu, it wasn't available. Brought my husband there the next week for the tiramisu, not available. Tonight, husband wanted the banana bread pudding, not available. Long story short, this place is fine if you want a quinoa salad; don't come here if you want a steak. Also, it's too inconsistent in quality of food. read more

Magnolia Farms | French Press | Brunch Magnolia Farms - the overall ambience and decor of the restaurant feels like Joanna Gaines and Magnolia Farms. if you like the HDTV show and the aesthetic in their magazine, then you will love the overall fuel vibe of the restaurant. French Press Coffee: myself and a colleague ordered the French press coffee for two which should be a French press coffee for one that has 2 cups. The coffee was delicious but the portion we thought was gonna be a little bit bigger so if you plan on having 2 cups of coffee, just get the press coffee for two for yourself. Brunch - overall this place has a great brunch five to it. We went on a Sunday morning around 9 AM. The menu is only about a third when you go that early you have to wait till 11 AM to get the full menu therefore highly recommend you put in a reservation for a little bit later if you want to get a solid brunch. Pro tip: tons of parking. Pro tip: this spot is very popular on the weekends. Therefore, you should put in for a reservation. read more
