Average food, but I prefer local establishments so they had been in our rotation. The front counter people have never been very welcoming so placing my order online was a fine option. However, 2 of the last three orders were not retrieved from the ordering system. I arrived both times the front counter took my credit card payment at the scheduled time given by the order system, then told me the order had not been started. No, apologies, no offer of a discount just a simple wait another 25 minutes or leave. I waited the first time. I left the second time. There will not be a third. DO NOT order from this place, worst customer service! The delivery driver handed me a receipt to sign and I handed him a $5 tip. He then handed me my food and a receipt. He started to walk way and I said, "Where is my 2 liter of soda?" He looked and me and told me I didn't order soda and I showed him my receipt, which clearly showed soda. He continued to argue and then finally said it was to far to go back and get it. I told him I didn't appreciate him arguing with me and I wanted the $5 back. Then continued to argue and never once told me I'm sorry. I finally got the $5 back. I called the restaurant and the guy on the phone was not pleasant at all. After telling him what happened 3 times I was annoyed. Finally he puts me on hold and comes back and said the manager will refund me $3.50 for the soda I didn't receive. He told me I needed to give him my credit card number so he could do a refund. I started reading him the numbers and was half way through and I paused because the phone was silent and he didn't acknowledge that I was giving him the numbers. He said "come on continue." Good Food Good Folks Good food counts for 80% of the restaurant review. The other 20% is details. I don't toss out five stars often but I feel that this is justified. I have always found the staff very helpful in explaining their menu to me. They have always made wonderful recommendations and their delivery service is just as good as anyone in town. Their facility is comfortably clean with no red flags or warning signs of anything out of place. They are operating at a level a notch or two above average. The pizza... that's another story. Their pizzas are above average. If Little See Tzar's is at one end of the scale and Moose's Tooth at the other...Sparta Pizza will land between the half way point and Moose's Tooth. Their salads are pretty darn OK. I also have a more than fair menu of cheesesteak sandwiches. When Mrs. B and I want Philly Cheese Steaks, this is our go to. We have never been left wanting for anything when we order from Sparta. THE ELUSIVE 5th STAR... The youth group at church wanted to make pizzas. I discovered the most pizza joints will sell you a ball of dough for just a few bucks. I went into Sparta and told them what I was up to and asked if they would sell me five doughballs. They box them up and told me to have a good evening. They refuse to take any money for them stating that they were happy to hear kids interested in making pizza. Placed an online order on a Friday evening, for a salad and a sandwich, with the instruction to call me when the order arrived so that I could meet the driver outside. My outer door is locked, prohibiting entry for delivery drivers, solicitors, etc. I was never called by the delivery person. When I discovered my food outside, in March, it was already long old. Attempts to lodge a complaint with the restaurant, over the phone, we're meet with refusals of mistreatment and discourteous staff who implied that I lied to them. Attempts by myself to establish proof that I was not contacted by their driver we're not considered. The restaurant ultimately refused my request to make the situation right by reimbursing THE TWELVE dollars I spent on the sandwich. We all know some Alaska restaurants do not have good customer service. Add Sparta Pizza to the list. read more

"THIS IS SPARTA!!!" Well, at least Sparta Pizza. I was exploring Anchorage, and was starting to get hungry when I saw their sign. Sparta Pizza, Philly's & Greek Specialties. Ilve always been a fan of all three, so I figured it was worth a shot. It was inside a little strip mall, and only has about 4-5 tables inside, but the place was clean, and you could see most of the kitchen from where I ordered at the counter. Menus were the trifold paper ones, and entrees and pizzas started about $10. Most things were about there with the most expensive being one of the pizzas that was $23 for a 16" so not to bad price wise. I went simple on the meal, and order a lamb gyro without any changes. Took about 8 minutes (I was the only customer at the time) and came out so hot I had to eat the fries first. It was good, and I think they make their own Tsatsiki sauce. Service was non existant aside from the food delivery, but I didn't need anything so no big deal. Over all a good experience, and I'll be back another time to try a philly... read more

Why these people have good reviews, I don't know. I just ordered a gyro sandwich w/fries for lunch. The fries obviously came from a frozen bag and were soggy with no flavor. The sandwich's bread was soggy and the meat was dry and flavorless. I also asked for no onions and of course, there were onions. What a waste of money. I will never eat here again. read more

I'm disappointed to have to downgrade a review for the first time ever. The last two times my husband and I have ordered from Sparta, the service has been lacking. Tonight we ordered our pizza and the gal on the phone was downright surly. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt and perhap she was just having a bad day, but no one likes to have someone else's bad day taken out on them, least of all me. Delivery took an average amount of time, but this is the second time the driver couldn't find our place. Last time it took an hour and half and four phone calls to direct the driver to our home. It's not as if we live in the boonies or new construction. Our home has been on the maps for 30 years, on a major road, and I always make sure to give the cross streets, but they still get it wrong. Then let's talk about the pizza... It's gotten bad. The crust was mealy, the sauce was watery, and everything was super salty. Plus, all the toppings had slid and congealed to one side of the pizza. I am really sad that this once tasty, locally-owned pizza place has let itself slide so much. Until they can get their act together it looks like I'll be picking up Papa Murphy's. read more

Looking for fast, hot, and delicious food brought to your door? This place delivers! Few others on Diamond Blvd are so consistent. The Greek food is surprisingly on point and the pizza is great. These use less sauce than most pizza places but it seems to balance out just right with the soft yet crispy crust and abundance of cheese. Our first night in Anchorage we crash-landed at the hotel, too tired to go out and find food. We got food from Sparta delivered to our hotel through GrubHub. Pretty sure Sparta saved our lives. The food was so good that a few days later, when we were all tired out from doing tourist stuff, we decided to go back to the hotel and order Sparta again. WOW! If I had only known that the same people owned Milanos and Sparta I would have tried this one sooner. We had a large Hawaiian pizza. The Canadian bacon was excellent not to fatty the cheese was awesome and the sauce was just right. We hate it when the pizza swims in it's own sauce. One of the best pizzas in Anchorage! I only make reviews if I am really impressed or really disappointed usually. This place is definitely the former, delicious food, very fast delivery and reasonable prices. I usually get the Greek gyro when I order, out of this world gyro meat and very fresh. The chicken wings are also very good. Haven't had a bad thing from here. Best of all there is no minimum so you can order a quick lunch for about $11, don't forget to tip on small orders though! I usually end up spending $15 including tip as get a very satisfying meal. Ordered from this place with the family last night and I have to say....I'm impressed. Decent pizza places that deliver in this town are few and far between. Great Alaskan Pizza Co. does ok, Pizza Huts quality is horrible, Sicily's pizza is ok, but very inconsistent with how good their product is and the customer service is horrid, and Round Table picks and chooses where they would like to deliver. So, pretty much if you want a good pie....it's drive to Moose's Tooth ...We ordered the Mama Mia, a cheese pizza for the kids and a calzone. The food arrived right on-time and was piping hot! One of my favorite places to get pizza from. They are open late (until 11). I work two jobs and often times get off at 10, they are fast and I am able to have a pizza and often times wings in about 20minutes. The Greek salad is so good! There is enough for two or left overs the next day. The wings are excellent. I highly recommend this place. read more

We have ordered here a couple times and the food is really good! It's definitely worth it, taste and portion. I always order the lamb souvlaki (amazing) and it serves a lot of food; the price is worth it. My husband ordered the philly's and said it was really good! The second time he ordered the warrior calzone and was thoroughly impressed by the size, price and taste. My kids usually order the Greek gyro's and they enjoyed it. The delivery usually takes a while but it's understandable. We usually order through Grubhub, which is convenient for us. Very good lamb gyros and salads. The regular gyros are not as good (frozen prepackaged gyro meat), but service is good and quick.

The best gyros in anchorage. Recommend the gyros nest plate as this gives you one pita cut into 4 slices and a plate of lemon rice as well as huge shavings of the spiced lamb. You won't get the huge slabs if you order the gyro by itself. Very reasonably priced and delicious. Closest thing to the Kebab shops of Northern Europe or Turkey. read more

Ended up being a horrible experience after I acquired food poisoning from either the cold chicken tenders and fries or the gyro pita that I ordered. Just an hour after eating some of this food I ended up feeling sick to my stomach. Literally. I had a flight the next morning and I was so sick they wouldn't let me on the plane. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for the delivery driver. My order was over $50. I paid online with my credit card. When he got there with my food he told me that it was marked as cash and had not been paid. I told him I had to go get cash and for him to wait. I went and looked to see if my card was charged and it was. Told him to double check to see if my card was charged before I gave him the cash.
