The pretzel had no flavor at all, almost no salt, and the outside was very crumbly. The beer cheese was decent. Wasn't even a pretzel shape. Definitely would skip moving forward. Grilled cheese with the pickle slices in it. The bread was not crispy at all it was very soft. Lots of cheese though and I love the pickles. Didn't really care for the soup either. I won't come here again unless I'm seriously in need of a quick cheesecake fix. I'm not fond of this place after the service and portions I recieved. I ordered the "Italian." It had single slice of ham, a little pepperoni and a few leaves of spinach, a little Italian seasoning and dressing with some peppers on a stale French roll. Simply terrible. Don't come here hungry. They do have an excellent drink menu though. So maybe I'll come for drinks and cheesecake? Other than that, don't expect good sandwiches. They'll definitely serve you bread though. Ambiance is tacky. I'm good with fast casual atmospheres. They've done well with what they have. The bar and seating area functions great. Nice clean bathrooms which is kinda hard to find in Anchorage. read more

An updated review was necessary! I was finally able to re-visit Bread and Brew in person. I did DoorDash with them a time or two. They started serving booze since my last visit. I have to be honest... as a patron I am still not a fan of the pre-order line. But from the perspective of a business owner, I can see the vision. Lol Bread and Brews Bloody Mary's are a must. They come with a grilled cheese sandwich, bacon and olive garnish. My dining partner and I quite enjoyed the garlic fries and our individual sandwiches. I recently went to Bread and Brew after not going for years. It's just never a place I think of but my recent visit changed that. I had the cubano and it was really good. I do think it's a bit silly that I couldn't pay to sub fries for the chips. Instead I paid for a side of fries and the chips went to waste. They have a good selection of beverages and I loved my drink (some fruity cider I can't remember). The server who took my order was really friendly and the place seemed pretty clean. I love a good sandwich shop and I will definitely be back to try more of the delicious looking sandwiches or pizza. read more

Almost always busy and I understand why! The food here isn't just plain sandwiches and breads, it's flavorful and comes out to you hot and fresh. The menu has a wide variety of breads, sandwiches, soups, sides and dessert! For being busy the inside isn't too loud, there was no music blaring like other places and the energy was calm. read more

Walked in to order takeout! I asked what was the difference between their Hungarian mushroom soup was from regular mushroom soup and the girl told me it was the mushrooms that are different. The staff here was really friendly. Placed order at the counter and then waited at our table. It took about 20 minutes to get our food. Small place, thought it'd be bigger from the pics. Not a huge amount of seating but on a Saturday night it wasn't crowded. I ordered the Grilled Cheese with mozzarella and basil pesto and tomato on sourdough. It came with a small dipping cup of tomato basil "dip" aka soup to me. Food appearance was great. But my sandwich and soup were room temperature. I ate it, but kept wishing it was hot. Not a whole lot to the sandwich-good flavor, but the amount of cheese was less than expected. Did not fill me up. Way too much bread compared to ingredients on it. Truffle fries were really good. Served with 2 different sauces, they were both great. The house dip tasted like ranch with just a little bit of something, and the other sauce was almost like honey mustard. It was really good. Their regular ranch is a cucumber dill version and tasted great as well. Fries had a lot of garlic, Parmesan sprinkle, and just enough oil. Prices are a bit high since sandwiches don't come with fries. $6.50 for a side of truffle fries was a bit much. And about $12 for just the sandwich was not worth it. $19 for a hamburger and regular fries. Husband said it was ok, but nothing special. It was pretty thin. Compared to burgers we've had since we've been here, this was smaller and cost more than the others. Overall, it's a nice place. Super clean, lots of tv's to watch sports on, and service was excellent. Prices just make it very unlikely we will go back. Good food, but not anything to rave about. read more

Normally I'm not this motivated to write a review (first one ever), but the decline of this establishment is becoming more and more apparent every time I go. A perfect example of this is right now- I tried to call to fix this issue instead of writing a terrible review, but now you can't even speak to a person, as everything is automated and you can only order online. My biggest suggestion is that they look to improve their to go orders. My main issue is that 90% of the time I order to go, something is messed up or missing. Today it was the fact that I ordered a pretzel and instead of cheese, I was given a cup of soup. WHY WOULD I WANT SOUP WITH A PRETZEL?! Additionally, I also paid for extra sauce on my appetizer, which I expected not to show up because it rarely does, and was once again disappointed. The portions have also noticeably shrunk over the last year (both to go and in store), to the point where we don't even bother ordering salads or dessert anymore. My other main point of contention is the way they have restructured the entire restaurant. We have been coming here for multiple years, valuing the structure of ordering at the window and sitting down to relax while we wait, which has now been regrettably replaced by table service. The food takes longer, the bill takes longer, getting a cup of water takes longer. One of the main draws has always been the quick and friendly counter ordering, now it's just like every other restaurant in Anchorage and non de-script. I'd love to see some improvements so that I can continue to come back and recommend this restaurant to visitors, however, that won't be happening soon read more

The food I've had here has generally been really good--the tomato soup, the apple and bacon grilled cheese, the cubano--all solid choices. I'd likely give a higher rating if the food was the only criteria. I've looked at other reviews and maybe the times I went I was just unlucky when it came to service. It hasn't been great. Each time, it's been slow. Or you get your food and no one comes back by to check on drink refills (and I live with a beer drinker, so if you're going to a place with 'brew' in the name that's like the kiss of death). Said I'd come back to try the Italian sandwich and I did so this weekend. Ordered it to go this time as I was sorta crunched for time. Ladies at the front counter were fast and courteous with my order and full of smiles. Was given a buzzer and sat to wait. 5 minutes later my sandwich was ready. Got home to a Very positive experience with the Italian sandwich. Great meats, provolone cheese and fresh veggies. The Italian seasoning was spot on. Best of all the French roll bread was super fresh. I'll be doing this sandwich again for sure. read more

Husband suggested coming here, as we'd not been before. I had a look at the menu online and pronounced that "You have made an acceptable choice sir" which he was relieved about. The decor and vibe are quite modern and trendy, with nice big tv's on the wall. There's a booth at the back with art above it, and a bar at the back has some wolves on wall above. I already knew what i wanted, but as i was walking toward the cashier, where you order, I noticed Hempz Hand Sanitizer on the tables, and that they were for sale. We ordered the food, i got a BLT and Truffle Fries, and Hub got a bowl of Chili, and Tater Tots, and i also bought 2 bottles of the Hempz Hand Sanitizer. So anyway, Hempz aside, we get our table number, and i was chatting to the girls at the counter for quite some time, they asked me about my coat, and girls will be girls lol. The food did not take long to arrive at all. His chili was richly studded with sliced reindeer sausage and ground meat, not sure whether that was reindeer or beef, but this was a big bowl of chili. My BLT was on a Ciabatta, and it comes with an over easy egg, which was perfectly cooked. I love when food has an egg with it, especially if it's yolk is soft. It's kind of like a self-saucing food item. You just bite into it, and a decadent yellow lava oozes, and dresses the rest of your sandwich. Can anything be more luxurious than a perfectly cooked egg yolk? What a gorgeous BLT! The truffles fries were crisp and good, with 2 different dipping sauces - neither of which were ketchup, and both had some level of heat. Maybe a chipotle aioli and south western ranch perhaps, that would be my guess. The sandwich itself came with ruffle chips, and we did eat some of those too. This was our first time visiting. Pretty good location with plenty of parking. The outside looked good. The inside was nice looking and appeared newer and very clean. When entering it was slightly confusing at first as the place is set up to get in a line? The employees were located toward the back in a cashier type area. When you walk in, there is a sign directing customers where to go. We liked the fact the menus were there in front by the sign. The laminated menus are right there, clean and very simple to read. The ordering area was towards the back right across the room. The staff greeted us after we decided and approached the area. They were very helpful. The beer menu looked great and there were numerous choices. There were many different sandwiches choices, soups, salads, pizza, tacos, burgers and side dishes. I took my parents to lunch today, unfortunately what was suppose to be a good lunch turned into three thumbs down kinda lunch. The food was mediocre at best, the beer cheese steak & cheese sandwich was a total flop, not a lot of flavor and very minimal beer cheese. My dad had the All American Burger...for $19 bucks one would think it would be outstanding and, come with something better than crushed chips...needless to say he didn't even finish it. $75 dollars (tip included) not well spent....way over priced for the quality. read more

Went to Bread & Brew Alaska looking for a nice casual place to eat. It felt like a neighborhood establishment, attractive set-up, and comfortable seating/ambiance. There are big screen tv's to watch sports and an attractive bar to sit at. You order at the counter and are given a number so your food will be brought out to you. My husband had the grilled cheese with tomato basil dipping sauce. It ended up being a nice warm comfort type of dish that was filling, without making him over full. I ordered the strawberry field salad and the pretzel with beer cheese. The strawberry salad was delicious. The portion size was great since I also had the pretzel kind of as a side to the salad. The candied walnuts, feta, and pickled onions worked really well with the balsamic dressing. I would definitely order this salad again. The pretzel was delicious (light, yet chewy), but I think the beer cheese sauce could've been a little better. I figure if you're going to eat something loaded with calories, it better be super good. The beer cheese was more grainy (if that makes sense) than creamy. It also lacked a little salt. Perhaps they were light on the salt because pretzels normally have a lot of salt, but my pretzel did not have much salt on it at all. So I would have to really think about whether or not I would order the pretzel again. I might just to see if the beer cheese sauce gets better, but I might just try something different. Out and about in Anchorage and craving food during the hunker down order and decided to stop by Bread and Brew for some grub. No sit down service right now due to COVID so we had to picnic in the car. Didn't want anything to crazy eating in the car so we went to hold faithful, the OG grilled cheese sandwiches. Usually comes with a delicious tomato Basil for dipping but we didn't want that today. The sandwiches came out just right, rousted and brown on the outside and soft gooey cheese center. Better than your mamas! I also had a bowl of the chili. So savory and delicious. Just the right amount of heat on a cold night. On a side note, many may think it's easier on these ladies with no seating inside but I disagree. This was my first stop at the Bread and Brew. I found myself up in Anchorage on business and a co-worker suggested this place for lunch. I went with the Over Under sandwich which is turkey, bacon, pepper jack cheese, avocado, and chipotle mayo on toasted ciiabatta bread. This sandwich was surprisingly amazing! A perfect balance of turkey and other toppings along with the great ciabatta bread. The fries here were amazing as well. The Bread and Brew has a great environment inside with friendly service. 1 and done. I was asked to pay for mayonnaise to go on my $20 sandwich and when I mentioned that was a condiment, the woman became confrontational that it was the only way she could give me that. I was looking on the tables and around the counter and was told by the manager who came out, not to apologize but to tell me I should have asked for Mayo when I ordered. I don't work there. I don't know their policies, but I am sure not going to whip out my CC a second time to pay for Mayo. I demanded a refund and then had to suffer 2 employees telling me how I should do business with this restaurant. What an entirely insane interaction this whole thing was. If you have a gluten allergy or Intolerance be careful or ask multiple people for clarification, I had asked for gluten free bread on my burger and the server had said that it was an option but they served me regular bread, when I had asked if it was regular or gluten free, another server had told me that they didn't do gluten free buns. If you are going to advertise gluten free options please, please be clean about it. This business can seriously hurt someone from their lack of consideration. Also the fries are breaded which I was not warned about until after I ate them. Left extremely disappointed because I paid for a 45 dollar meal and couldn't eat more than half of it. Bread and Brew has been a staple for quick and good bite for us. They're always quick, efficient, and make some tasty food! We always end up getting a flatbread because they're cheap and consistent. Nothing amazing, but tasty and dependable with rotating flavors. We also usually end up grabbing a salad, which again are fresh, flavorful, but not something that'll knock your socks off. Really like their sandwiches, some of them can at times use some extra mayo or mustard - but that's never a problem as we always get Bread and Brew to go!
