It's nice to be able to have a beer while waiting on take out food from Familia! Anchorage Brewing sure isn't making it easy to pick a beer with many good choices. One of the best beers I've had so far is A deal with the devil double oaked! This beer is made to enjoy! On the sweet side with a hint of caramel or toffee. A sample since glass is plenty for me! It's never really busy when I stop by so it's usually pretty quiet which makes for great opportunities to talk to staff members. They all are so patient, which is appreciated! They have a way to always suggest the best beer depending on what you are in the mood for. All in all, this brewery is a great place to meet up with friends or family. read more

When in Anchorage, this namesake brewery seems like a no-brainer for the beer lover. And I can't disagree. Between its sweet, modern vibe, HUGE rooftop beer garden, and delicious options on tap I could easily have spent several hours here tasting my way through the menu. Alas, there wasn't time for a lengthy visit, so I sipped on a pint of their crisp, fresh Czech-style pilsner while gazing out at the beautiful mountains surrounding this amazing city. In cooler weather, they also have outdoor fire pits which looked like a ton of fun. Inside, there was plenty of seating amongst the brewery apparatus. And, while the beer line was long, the staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. This stop is definitely one to add to your beer list when traveling in the area! read more

Service was excellent but maybe because we were there early afternoon weekday. Nah, the beertenders were friendly, helpful and not pushy. They never acted annoyed even after asking for 5 samples. The roof top view was spectacular and a really neat added place to visit with your beverage. Walk around! The stone fire pits were welcoming and built really creatively. The indoor walls are covered in large colorful metal art. It's made by a local artist and it's for sale! There's really so much to see when you sit back and enjoy your own company. But it's equally a great venue to visit with a couple friends or host a party. We had a great time and this place is worth a visit. read more

Steve and I had Anchorage Brewing several times up to this point. Each occasion would wind up being a collection of the brewery's various IPA'S that they offer. And while I couldn't exactly flesh out if I had a favorite beer out of the five different ones that I have had we still felt that their beer was solid and each IPA had it's distinguishing marks and characteristics in which they could be relatively sorted out easily. Here are the IPA'S that we had. Personal Space was one IPA wr had. Flavor notes with this one are juicy, fruity, hoppy and boozy. This is a hazy IPA. Puppy, another hazy IPA with flavor features of crispness, sweet and hoppy. This is a full bodied beer. Catch, hazy in appearance and this IPA has a fun spin to it as flavors involved are guava and citrus. The beer is smooth to the palette. Devour Me, this is less on the hazy side and has citrus, pine and creamy flavor elements and has an aura of brilliance to it. The final beer, It Meant Nothing is back to the hazy IPA'S with citrus and sweetness. The beer is light bodied and soft. Definitely worth returning to, Anchorage Brewing Company and I'd love to do a series of stouts if I could sometime as they look very intriguing! read more

Microbrewing used to be weird and unique. The flavors different and exciting, with brewers pushing the limits of flavor and variety at every turn. Then it became pretty standard to have the same lineup at each brewery. A hoppy IPA, a NEIPA, a red ale, something with wheat (usually with a berry), something darker like an Amber our stout. If you were lucky, they might have a decent tasting hefeweizen or something Belgian. And it was becoming boring. BUT, I am happy to report, Anchorage Brewing is still VERY weird, and unique. My visit started with perusing easily the coolest taproom I have ever visited. I have never seen fermenting tanks like the ones set up in here. So cool. Since it was cold outside, we didn't get to venture beyond the tasting room, but it appears there are some intriguing outside areas. I had two different beers. The wheat beer had a slight sour lemon flavor which provided a nice balance and the wild ale I tried a good blend of sour and sweetness on the back end. The bartender was, well...meh. Very lackadaisical. Not necessarily a bad thing, but sort of off-putting for my first excursion. I would have enjoyed asking about the beers, getting feedback on the subtleties, but he just had an expression of complete disinterest. A small blemish on an otherwise delightful visit. read more

Updated review July 2022 - they now have a huge outdoor garden with nice fire pits and seating, plus an additional rooftop seating area. This time around they had about 4 sours on tap! This is the only brewery that does a handful of sours and that's their thing- rarely you find an actual sour and not tart. Also the non sours that I tasted had so much flavor, strong! They are also the only ones who charge $10 a glass. read more

The blueberry sour is super original and really lets the blueberry shine. Cabin hazy is the champagne of IPAs. Super nice and dry. Excellent location. Came here after hiking Flattop Mountain since it was on the way back to the hotel. I came thirsty and Anchorage Brewing Company quenched my thirst. The ambiance of the brewery was gorgeous with the large decorative wood barrels. The exterior seating was also amazing too with multiple outdoor gas fire pit. It was perfect as the weather in Anchorage was hovering around 40 degrees. The brewery also had a roof top seating area too. Go visit and enjoy a beer there! read more

We hosted a pre-wedding welcome party at Anchorage Brewing Company and could not have had a better experience. The rooftop event space, with a view towards the mountains, was the perfect venue on a warm day with cold, tasty beers. The outdoor garden area is also very inviting for beer [and wine] sipping. Nestled in the industrial park near the south side Costco, Anchorage Brewing Company is one of my favorite breweries in Anchorage. You get to eat and drink among their active brewing operation, which I find creates a great atmosphere. They have food options available from different pop ups that utilize their wood fired oven; when I last went, it was Familia making the most delicious pork buns. To top this all off, they are dog friendly both indoors and outdoors, which I love. Now onto the beers. Anchorage brewing makes the best IPAs and Hazy IPAs in the city and some of the best that I've ever tried. They are very creative and inventive with their hop selection and I always look forward to try something new when I come. Popped into Anchorage brewing when I was in town from Seattle. I tried their double and triple ipas, and thought they were both great. Ambiance was amazing. Hands down the best brewery in Anchorage. It's also the only brewery open past 8 PM (closes at 9) and the only brewery that occasionally serves food on site (try the bowl at La Familia, located inside the brewery). Due to strict brewery laws in Alaska, every other brewery relies on food trucks. The cheapest beer on tap is the Pilsner ($6). Beyond that you can spend anywhere from $10-15 for their rotating taps, but they're worth it. The sours are delicious. The outdoor seating area is expansive with the recent addition of the rooftop. The fire pits out back make for an enjoyable year-round outdoor drinking experience. This is a must do if you're a beer fan. read more

Best brewery in Alaska. One of the top breweries in America. Specializing in sours and stouts, but what they do with a vast majority of their IPAs is what keeps me coming back. First brewery I'd had that was using phantasm powder in their beers and I love how experimental and adventurous they can be. Only knock against the brewery experience was I was hoping for more selection on draft (several options were only can pours) over the week we were in town and for more merch (I guess they've struggled to get orders in for their standard logo t-shirts and whatnot). Honestly half the reason we made a trip to Alaska was to visit ABC and I'd have bought everything if the style and selection matched the can art and aesthetic. read more

I've been meaning to visit Anchorage Brewing Company for some time now. Google Maps may take you all over the world, but it's simply off Dimond Blvd. Turn on King Street, then again on 91st Street. Basically, it's closer to me than I thought, and I'm kicking myself for not visiting sooner. Anchorage Brewing is in a new building that looks even bigger inside. Definitely one of the more fancier breweries I've ever been to, as far as the aesthetic goes. But the crowd made me feel comfortable. The workers seemed eclectic and easy going also. Anchorage Brewing offers growlers, cans-to-go and even wine. I could not get enough of their Golden Draak. It was perfectly crisp. My spouse enjoyed the Time for a Change, Pilsner. ABC has such a cool space. Love the vibe of this brewery. They also have a nice little outdoor patio to sit at when the weather is cooperating. Their beer is very tasty, and creative. They offer a lot of different styles to choose from. They usually have ipas, stouts, Saisons, sours, and tripels up on the beer board so there is something for everyone. They always have a good rotation on hand. Typically they serve about 8-12 different beer choices, which gives an awesome variety. They frequently have new releases to get excited about. If you like Hazy IPAs, this is your Mecca. I've been drinking beer for a long time from Maine to Hawaii and this place offers my favorite brews of them all. In the summer and shoulder seasons, the outdoor roof seating and patio with fire pits are delightful. In the winter the indoors of the brewery can get packed, but for good reason. I was pretty surprised by this place, and I'm a terminal designated driver Anyhow, clean, comfortable, kid and dog friendly. Good beer and cider according to my family, canned Soda. They put a lot of planning into this place and it shows. Very nice fun, atmosphere, not one of those joints that makes you turn around thinking "not today Satan". So nice, you'd never think you were in Anchorage;) They have a food pop up in there, and wow. They were serving rice bowls that looked delicious, but the winner were the fish collars marinated in miso. Three weeks later, family is still talking about it. I totally thought that I was in the wrong place when I pulled up. Do not let the exterior fool you. This is one of the prettiest breweries that I have been in. Very clean! The seating arrangement is a bit tight, with limited seating available. I love that they have some outdoor seating available. I heard that they have a hot dog food truck that serves food, but it was not there when we went today. The bartender was awesome and I wish that I had gotten her name. I tried a few of the beers and all were good. I opted for the raspberry one, which was beautiful and smooth! Out of the 7 breweries we tried in Alaska, Anchorage Brewing is the cream of the crop. Everything about it -- from the brewery atmosphere to the bottle designs to the beer itself -- is upscale and first-class. The brews here are not cheap, but they are quite special. Their Catch hazy IPA (strata hops and fermented with guava) is smooth, tart, and easy-drinking. Their Anadromous black sour is full of sour, barrel-aged flavors and complexity. Love Buzz is a sour saison with a fantastic floral nature -- hints of rose petal. Blessed is a very expensive -- but very popular -- imperial stout. This is a heavy-duty, boozy beer weighing in at 14% and having a viscosity like motor oil in the glass... one for sipping, not gulping. And every sip tastes like molasses and just the right amount of toasted coconut and vanilla. It tastes almost just like the famous Girl Scout cookies called Samoas. Such a cool space!!! The brewery itself is in a bit of an industrial area which is nice for finding parking. Pretty spacious inside and a decent variety of beers. I ended up with their double IPA which was full of flavor and could almost be considered a juicy IPA in my opinion.
