We've been meaning to give Odd Man a try for quite sometime, but it just hasn't been in the cards for us. It finally worked out with a special event we bought tickets for this week! There's a great comfy vibe when you walk through the door. Seating on the main floor and also upstairs, along with a room for events. A friend of ours in a band has played there before as well, which he said he always enjoys. We had cocktails from the event so didn't get to try their beer. Highly recommended by the locals, so we had to give it a try. Ambiance is great, hockey theme. Not just beer, they have a liquor license also. Their lager was outstanding and the Hefe was very good. Service was awesome. So a guy walks by with a cheesesteak. Smelled great. I said where did you get that ? He says the food truck on the side of the building. He added that it was the best he has ever had. Being from Philly, I was skeptical. So on the way out, my wife and I decide to give it a try. We order, and I say to the owner, you know, the key to a Philly cheesesteak is the Amaroso rolls. He pulls down the bag if rolls, and they are Amaroso rolls. I'm stunned. Never thought I would see this in Alaska. I just finished my cheesesteak 5 minutes ago. Run to Odd Man Rush brewery and have a beer and a cheesesteak. A cool brewery inside that has multi level seating along with rooftop access. The staff was very friendly and we we were taking care of almost immediately upon us walking up to the bar. Ended up getting a flight to test out six different types of beer and only really liked one of them. Unfortunately trying multiple IPAs, Lager, and Blonde Ale led to the realization that most of their beers are very bitter compared to most beers and I was not able to drink more than half of the testers. read more

I'd like to give this place a higher rating since Eagle River has no other breweries, but my last visit was rather underwhelming. The selection of beers was rather limited (probably at least half were IPAs). When I paid for my order the employee was too busy talking with some other people to even acknowledge me except to take my money which was off-putting. I find the beer quality is on par with other Anchorage area breweries but isn't particularly outstanding. Positives: plenty of seating, cool decor with a hockey theme along with license plates and cassette tapes, craft soda and float options for those who want a non-alcoholic drink. read more

Great atmosphere at this brewery, lots of friendly people and the decor is really cool. Lots of old Alaska stuff and wild life mounts in the bar. When you go upstairs the steps gave license plates from all over the states. The decor is Hockey so if your a fan of Hockey you'll love it here. Great Beers on tap, wide range from IPA's to Selzers I'm sure there is something for everyone. There's food trucks on site to get food also you can bring your own food in which can be super handy. Easily one of the best breweries we've been to, that isn't considered a restaurant. As free-thinking adventurers, we find ourselves in many spaces where we are the only people of color. Luckily, Odd Man's only female employee was super welcoming, kind, informative...all the things. They have a liquor license people! I miss La Mex but what an opportunity it afforded this brewery. None of that 36oz bullshit we deal with in "the city." Odd Man Rush is big thangs, big thangs! My spouse zoned in on their Mile High Hefe. Hefe's are his fave. We were told someone who played professionally in Germany created the recipe. Literally the best Hefe ever! I tried a sample that was half Mile High Hefe and half blueberry kombucha. What. the. fuck?! it was amazing. Of course we bought cans to go! Like most breweries, they have rotating food trucks and on Sundays they host "AK Berry and Board," I ordered a large beer themed charcuterie board from her and she's super bomb and creative. We have visited OMR, Odd Man Rush, weekly for years. They are located in Eagle River conveniently located right of the Glenn Hwy nestled in a series of smaller businesses. We love all the people that work and patronize this awesome place and that they are very family friendly too! This brewery is so different and eye catching inside. It has a hockey theme along with, all sorts of pictures and memorabilia. The steps leading to the upper parts has all sorts of old personalized license plates that cover the front side of the steps. There are walls literally covered in nothing but old cassette tapes. They have different areas to sit to accommodate a few or several patrons with different levels and rooms. They have outdoor seating upstairs in warm weather too! Even their bathrooms have their own flare! The entire staff is always engaged, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their drinks & brews. We love coming here for the camaraderie, drink choices, live music and entertainment like trivia night on Wednesdays, "Geeks That Drink"! My cousin had his wedding reception here. There weren't enough tables and chairs for the number of guests. The only option for non drinkers was water. I sampled the ginger soda and bought a pint of rootbeer for $3.00. I also bought 3 stickers for $1 each. Their t shirts and hats were $30 each. Cool repurpose of cd covers and cassettes on the walls. We had been told to stop in by the staff at Long Live in Providence RI. Sutton and Pooch served us and gave a little history of the replica airplane hanging and Jitters the coffee shop down the road. There is a lot of history not only in the brewery but in this family and the business around town. We enjoy a cold 'Mile Hi' so refreshing. My friend and fellow beer enthusiast join me in checking out Old Man rush for the first time and here's are results: Enforcer IPA 6.4% ABV 69 IBU We give the Enforcer a 7/10, nice hoppy beer but just a tad too piney. Wes Goldie Blonde 5.5% ABV 16 IBU This was a solid 8/10 and super refreshing, I'm normally not a huge fan of blondes but this one was very well one and full of flavor. Mile Hi Hefeweizen 5.2% ABV 13 IBU This was the worst in my opinion, it kinda tasted like very low carbonated Hi-C, we gave this a 1/10. Pararescue 212 Vanilla Porter 6.2% ABV 24 IBU This was 2nd to the worst, not much flavor at all here and we won't recommend it 1/10 Otter Rock Smoked Oyster Imperial Porter 8.2% ABV 25 IBU WOW, this is what really makes this brewery stand out in Alaska and so far makes this brewery the best I've been to in Alaska. For a brew master, this really takes an art to perfect adding seafood into your fermenting process and they really did an outstanding job here. It's not overpowering and it's very smooth and it definitely gets you in the mood for seafood! Solid 8/10 Nut Punch Peanut Butter Porter 7.3% ABV 24 IBU For us this was just too nutty but we heard it could be good if you mix it with another drink, for us it was a 3/10. Trifecta IPA 7% ABV 70 IBU this was a very well-balanced lemon or citrusy IPA with a balance level of hops. 6/10. Wallace Ranch Pale Ale - American 6.2% ABV 41 IBU I heard about this vanilla Porter and that old man rush does an amazing job and I would say that is accurate. It was very good, had a nice balance of a dark Porter, I really enjoyed this 9/10! Coach Mac's Kilt Scottish Ale 5.3% ABV 33 IBU I was jaw dropped on this one, The reason I don't like Ambers too much is that I get bored by them but this one was filled with so much flavor and very good. This is another great test about how good the brewmaster is, if they can make their Amber to this next level and they truly have done that, this would be on my top three list for beers I would recommend for ambers and my favorite Amber in Alaska yet! 9/10 Baldershagnasty IPA 7% ABV 64 IBU This one was a strange one, we couldn't quite put our finger on it but it kind of seemed like a licorice taste to it or something similar to it, definitely very unique but not for us for sure 4/10 10 Ply Hazy IPA 6.8% ABV 65 IBU I was so excited when I first tasted this! This is honestly in my top three favorite IPAs here in Alaska. It has a pineapple fruity well balanced taste with a perfect balance of hops, absolutely incredible. This was so good I had to leave with a glowler! I would put this tropical IPA second only to mousses tooth yellow eye tropical IPA. Pooch's Pumpkin Pastry Stout 8% ABV 20 IBU I normally don't like pumpkin or anything too exotic but this was well balanced and very good for a special occasion. 5/10 Miracle Stout - Imperial / Barrel Aged 8% ABV 80 IBU Buffalo Trace barrel-aged Stout. 6/10, well balanced and decent stout. As far as the atmosphere goes, it was 100% the best so far! Friendly, relaxing and I love how they how they have the brewery Storage tanks in the main room. It is Eagle River's only brewery, but they do not let that affect the quality of their product. This is a really cool space! Open, and decorated with a hockey theme in mind. They also have a cassette tape wall, and old license plates hanging, which is really cool. As a big fan of hockey I am really into the theme. Too bad Alaska's weird brewery laws do not allow for tvs so we can go here for games. Service is always friendly, and the staff is knowledgeable about their products. You are able to get a sample of a product if you are unsure of what to pick. The beers have hockey themed names, which I appreciate. They have a consistently good product, and a solid house line up. But, they do not offer much variety in terms of beer types. Their menu is mainly IPAs. My favorite beer by far is their smoked oyster porter, which I feel is their most unique brew. At long last, Eagle River has its very own brewery! And I'm happy to report that it's a great one! This brewery has a hockey-theme, but even if you know nothing about hockey (like me), you'll dig the look of this place. Things I like: - classy and cool interior design, including: cassette tape wallpaper, horse-chewn wood, and stainless steel. - friendly and helpful staff Things I'm not a fan of: - closes at 5pm on Sundays: it took me forever to come here for this very reason! Maybe it's just me, but the beer seems to have a more English-style focus. This means less big, citrusy, grapefruity hops and more mild and earthy hops. Beer is $5 for a 12oz poor and you have to buy them one beer at a time. In "true brewery" fashion, this place does not serve food. Feed yourself somewhere else first. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Eagle River or if you're a brewery aficionado! If it was in Anchorage, I'd probably be a regular. read more

This place is WAYYYY cool. I had the honor of being invited by a couple that knew the owner and were there to meet him. They were able to explain the theme and pictures to me. Lots of meaning to this brewery. Good beer doesn't even begin to describe it. Let's talk ambiance and environment. They have a great place with downstairs AND upstairs seating. The staff is friendly and the beer pours happen fast! Make sure to check the hours because they are not open late. Came on a Saturday night for a birthday party and they were slammed with people! We tried the 3 way which was a raspberry stout and the Son of the north which was a white stout. Both were really tasty. I thought the white stout had a great unique taste to it. Crisp and I have never had a beer with that taste before it was super good. The raspberry one didn't have hardly any raspberry taste to it I though it was more of a chocolate oh dark stout taste which I don't mind but wasn't expecting. read more

Located in Eagle River, approximately 20-25 minutes outside of Anchorage, Odd Man Rush Brewing provides a variety of beer styles that would satisfy even the most snobbiest craft beer enthusiast. Odd Man Rush Brewing serves pints, crowlers, growlers, and sample flights. While none were amazing, the six or seven we sampled were all good and not overly pricey. Like most breweries in Alaska that I've come to notice, is that they're usually hidden in places you wouldn't expect a brewery to be. Odd Man Rush doesn't stand out but once you go inside it begins to show why it's unique. You walk in the door and right in front of you is a set of stairs to go upstairs and sit at tables looking over the main lobby. To the left as you walk in is a wall of cassette tapes! Flashback to the 80's and 90's! There's also a lot of hockey decor as the theme seems to be hockey. The brew names all have to do with the sport and some areas on the walls have hockey sticks and hockey jerseys. However it's not overwhelmingly HOCKEY, which is makes it welcoming for all. The brews themselves were good, my favorite being the Hefeweizen (wherever I go) and the IPA, and the pumkin ale being pretty good. I ordered the flight and my buddies drank the dark beers while I drank the light beers. It wasn't a incredibly special place to be but it was clean and organized and the staff was friendly. I absolutely LOVE this place. Probably because the dudes are living my dream of being a home brewer turned master craft brewing business owner. Oh well, some day... I love the IPA and I love the options to sample a few beers off nitro. Last time we were there the porter and pumpkin brews were on nitro and both were great. Seating is limited and there was no food but we saw people having food delivered. I wasn't expecting there to be food so this wasn't a big deal to me. The decor is totally awesome. The hockey sticks, zamboni front end, score board and old cassette tapes so artfully distributed throughout the place were totally awesome. So why not five stars? Well mainly because I can't give it 4.5 stars. As much as I want to give this place five stars I simply cannot due to what I feel is a slightly high price point they're asking for the growlers. At $14 for a large growler this will end up being nothing more than a novelty for me, just like Resolution Brewing, Midnight Sun and King Street in Anchorage. I may stop in once in a while when I'm flush with extra cash but I just can't justify paying that much for a growler when I can get Denali Twister Creek or Broken Tooth Fair Weather at Brown Jug for $9 for the same size growler. read more

This is such a cool spot to get a beer. I'm a fan of their Hefeweizen and I also love the fact that they do craft sodas - the root beer and ginger ale are delicious. The tasting room is decorated really cool with hockey stuff and tons of old cassette tapes integrated into the walls. There is a decent amount of seating since they do have a second level, but I could see it being tight if they get real busy. Staff are super friendly. Being from San Diego, having friends in Portland and making craft brewery visits a nearly weekly thing I sadly can say that I have become the dreaded beer snob. On our recent trip to Alaska we tried 6 different breweries in and around Anchorage and I have to say this is probably my top choice. Most of the others save Midnight Sun Brewing (which is also good) don't even deserve mentions. Odd Man Rush on the other hand deserves some real love. First thing to note is the vibe. The hockey thing + cassette tape wall + general clean design really works for this location. Go to the lower 48 and this place stacks up solid facility wise. Next up is the beer, it is rock solid for a nano brewery. The beers aren't the hot experimental messes you often run into. Do note though if you are all about high bitter unit IPAs you might be disappointed but then again you won't like anything in Alaska if you are that way. IPAs and DIPAs clock in well below even 80 at most places. However, I found all their offerings to be clean and precise. TL;DR they actually know what they are doing brewing wise. If you find yourself in or around Anchorage (or you live there already) make the drive as this is a good spot to check out and support the Alaska craft beer scene. read more
