Gold Rush liquor has been purchased by the parent company that also owns Brown Jug. As a result,…read moretheir bush order department no longer exists. Instead of continuing to monitor the old bush orders email address and notifying customers of this change, they allowed it to become an email black hole. After my second order attempt in months, I called them only to be told by a Brown Jug employee that "Gold Rush was supposed to notify their customers". Further, although it seemed like they were able to get into the email account after that, and I sent updated copies of my license and liquor permit, they apparently lack the capability to provide a pre-shipping subtotal... either that, or they just decided my request was unreasonable and they don't want to do business with me any more. I might never find out; they still haven't called me back, and I'd sooner order from someone else. Problem is, it looks like Liquor Stores USA North is attempting to buy up all the liquor stores in Anchorage, so you'll soon not have a choice but to put up with their bullshit.

Gold Rush Liquor is a giant space of alcohol. Booze as far as the eye could see…read more Is it fancy? No, but it also isn't daunting. Clearly labeled sections make finding your spirit of choice a breeze and the low shelves makes finding people even easier. My friends split up upon entering but keeping track of each other was simple enough. And the selection! Wow. I saw alcohol here that I can't find anywhere. I immediately regretted not having more time in Anchorage for surely I'd pick up more. Everyone was so friendly here too! Employees were polite but not over bearing. The only downside is the price. We were on a hunt so we went here and then immediately to other stores. We were surprised to find identical product (same brand, type, size) $10 cheaper elsewhere. For the hard to find stuff Gold Rush is the spot, but for everything else there's cheaper elsewhere.

Loved their fireweed alpenglow, although the spiciness of their blueberry naughty was the best! Their bartender during Christmas week couldn't have been friendlier and more knowledgeable. COVID is long gone, no one is wearing masks, but this policy remains. All I can think of is that it's some sort of anti-homeless-people initiative or some other way to keep "unsavory" people out of the store. They still are the best place for the best ethanol-containing beverages and it's their store, they can do whatever they want, I just have no idea why they are adding additional friction to the shopping experience. One other thing: no more chilled cans of wine, you'll have to go to Brown Jug for that now. Why? I have no idea. Canned wine probably has 10X the demand as Sake and...that ethanol containing beverage has a massive cooler dedicated to it.

I have absolutely enjoyed every time. I have come in and love getting their sour starter pack of bottles. It's a great variety of what they have to offer with some of their greats! The high bush cranberry that they have currently is just fantastic. I know that they just came out with a white stout which they do every year and it's delicious. I haven't had this year but I can tell you from years previously it's one of the best beers of the winter. The place is clean and well kept with a beautiful sitting area upstairs and some fantastic chairs downstairs great place to come sit hang out and enjoy yourself.
