Gold Rush liquor has been purchased by the parent company that also owns Brown Jug. As a result, their bush order department no longer exists. Instead of continuing to monitor the old bush orders email address and notifying customers of this change, they allowed it to become an email black hole. After my second order attempt in months, I called them only to be told by a Brown Jug employee that "Gold Rush was supposed to notify their customers". Further, although it seemed like they were able to get into the email account after that, and I sent updated copies of my license and liquor permit, they apparently lack the capability to provide a pre-shipping subtotal... either that, or they just decided my request was unreasonable and they don't want to do business with me any more. I might never find out; they still haven't called me back, and I'd sooner order from someone else. Problem is, it looks like Liquor Stores USA North is attempting to buy up all the liquor stores in Anchorage, so you'll soon not have a choice but to put up with their bullshit. read more

Gold Rush Liquor is a giant space of alcohol. Booze as far as the eye could see. Is it fancy? No, but it also isn't daunting. Clearly labeled sections make finding your spirit of choice a breeze and the low shelves makes finding people even easier. My friends split up upon entering but keeping track of each other was simple enough. And the selection! Wow. I saw alcohol here that I can't find anywhere. I immediately regretted not having more time in Anchorage for surely I'd pick up more. Everyone was so friendly here too! Employees were polite but not over bearing. The only downside is the price. We were on a hunt so we went here and then immediately to other stores. We were surprised to find identical product (same brand, type, size) $10 cheaper elsewhere. For the hard to find stuff Gold Rush is the spot, but for everything else there's cheaper elsewhere. read more

It is laid out in a clear manner that makes it easy to find what you are looking for, and the staff has never been anything but polite, knowledgable, and helpful in the many years we've made this a standard stop while in town. Prices are pretty standard, sometimes they have some great sales. Alaska's laws make it so that alcohol can only be sold in liquor stores, so why not go to the best one? read more

I was referred to Goldrush by the proprietor of another store that only served wine. Goldrush was the opposite. A large warehouse type building, Goldrush featured varieties of beer, spirits, and wines at affordable prices. While there I discovered a phenomenon, I had not previously seen which was alcohol removed wines, which are real deal wines that contain zero alcohol. Amazing selection, I would honestly venture to say the best in Anchorage. The building has the ambiance of a warehouse, but that warehouse is filled with every liquor, wine, mixer or beer you can think of. In particular the variety they have of each different type of liquor is very impressive- any flavor of vodka you can imagine, they probably have it, and that goes for basically every type of liquor they carry. Their selection of wines and beers is vast, and it is easy to find something that catches your interest. The staff here is always very nice, and helpful without being overbearing. I've found that they are always able to answer my questions and make suggestions which is always appreciated. Fantastic selection! Neck-and-neck with the "Mothership" Brown Jug, and absolutely slays your average Brown Jug. If they don't have it here, they likely don't distribute it in Alaska. Massive beer selection, massive wine selection, massive spirit selection. I'm not an expert on consumables prices. I will spend weeks, months, or even years researching most purchases, trying to get the best price. For food/drink though? I'm lazy. I'm not sure what a "good" price is on a bottle of whiskey. What I will say is that, going forward, I vow to always take a picture of a 750ml bottle of Black Velvet everywhere I go. The price here was $14.99. Is that good? Is that bad? I don't know. It's the same price as the gas station in Girdwood. So, take that as you will. The other semi-rare things I buy (not often available at the average Brown Jug), they had here: vinho verde wines, and more than one type of Islay scotch. I'm still usually a La Bodega guy, as they curate the selection down to just the stuff I like most. They have everything here...but that also means that have a lot of "swill". This is also a pretty out-of-the-way drive for me. If you're in the area, it's absolutely worth a stop. I guarantee they'll have something you're into. read more

Price has to be the only thing keeping Gold Rush from being the absolute best in show for Anchorage when it comes to wine, spirits, and beer - but if you remove the often slightly higher pricing at Gold Rush then you've got a clear winner. It's a massive location with a very long cooler wall dedicated to beer from local, craft, typical domestics, typical international brews, et al. A great place to swing by for a sixer. They've got a really nice selection of whiskeys with a great assortment of scotch. Though at times pricey (scotch has been creeping price wise for awhile anyway) I still love finding a new scotch to try out and they never disappoint in that department with their awesome selection. Fantastic wine assortment. Don't just meander around the front where they have several wine displays, go all the way to the back of the store where there are aisles of wine if you're looking for something specific to a region or grape. Their mixer game is weak. There I said it. If you're looking for interesting, nice, clean mixers(not just high fructose corn syrup/'natural flavor' mixers) you may be disappointed - I thought this was going to be a complete replacement for my beloved Total Wine down in the lower 48... not quite but it's a solid place to have to make do with! read more

When in Anchorage in 2014 I visited this store a few times just because it's so HUGE. Wow is All I can say. I mean when you walk in and can't see the back wall you know this store is well stocked. This was the only liquor store that carried Panty Peeler beer. Very high in alcohol like 11.5 percent. It was so smooth and freaking dangerous. But this store carries all the Alaskan beers brewed in Alaska. Also they got a beer called Montana Butte it's so good. Great service everytime I came in here with no attitudes. Big parking lot and many many beers to choose from. Great selections of wines and Everything in between. Definitely come here when your in the area. Clean store for sure. read more

Or if you're like me and enjoy walking through the wine aisles if only to look at the bottles, you'll be like a kid in a candy store. Fortunately, the staff are very friendly and willing to help. Their imports are particularly impressive. They have everything from beer from Germany and Belgium to wine from South Africa and New Zealand. Notably, they have a wide variety of Japanese beer, sake, and plum wine. Domestic products can be a bit more expensive than some of the other stores in town so I'd recommend this place if you're feeling adventurous and want to try something new. read more

Ever since Brown Jug was bought out by a Canadian company, I've tried to devote my booze budget for Alaskan companies. Gold Rush Liquor, as far as I know, is Alaskan owned and offers a generous selection of wines, decent variety of craft beers, and whiskeys and bourbons. The store is probably as good as it gets for our relatively small population base in Alaska. If you have ever visited a Total Wine "warehouse" style store in the Lower 48, you know what I mean. Just recently I had a great customer service experience with Gold Rush Liquor. I tend to buy items on sale or at a discount, and so when I came home and noticed on the receipt that both my wine and beer didn't get the deduction, I was bummed. Took the receipt back 2 days later to Gold Rush, and they apologized and quickly refunded my money. They made the situation right, and that's what good businesses do. Gold Rush Liquor prices are in line with the rest of Anchorage retailers, but on occasion they have great specials. The aisles are wide and the layout can best be described as warehouse style (which is fine by me). I like their wine selection, and the store is in a good area of town, making it conducive for shopping. Give Gold Rush Liquor a try if you are in the South Anchorage area. read more

I could get lost in here. I always find something new to try. I usually buy bulk sized items here. One thing I really miss is the winter seasonal beer Snow Plow I used to get here all the time. Went there recently for Aperol to make Aperol Spritzes. Yay, they had it. Didn't price the prosecco because I'd already bought some elsewhere at a very good price. There were very few customers there when I was there mid-afternoon on a weekday. They seemed to have an excellent selection of beer, wine and spirits but I was there on an Aperol mission so didn't spend much time assessing their inventory. The staff was very helpful and courteous. I'd go back if I'm in the area again in the future. read more

This place is like the Jedi archives of booze. If you can't find it here, it probably doesn't exist. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Heck even the managers are not afraid to jump in and give you the guided tour to fit your needs. I made a New Year's resolution last year that I would learn more about wine and how to enjoy it. I already knew plenty about whine and how to enjoy that, so it was time to broaden my horizons. I don't know his name, but the owner was wonderful when it came to asking questions about types of wines and where to start. We talked quite a bit about local wines and wines from abroad. He has a very nice selection of good ole standbys as well as harder to find wines from different areas. I had to be led around the first time or two to find what I wanted - it is broken into grape type on one side, and region on the other... hard to explain - go and look. I guess I should also mention there are many types of beers and liquors, too. Since I was working on becoming less of a wino and more of a connoisseur, I didn't dig too deep into their beer or liquor cache. That will be next year's resolution. read more

Gold Rush Liquor has pretty much everything you need. The prices are actually pretty good. I found the beer selection excellent and I am excited to try some of the more interesting brews they carry. The wine selection is also pretty large. They have a nice selection of whiskeys I like, and those prices are reasonable. I do wish that they carried larger packs of beer like 20's or 24's. read more

Like a kid in a candy store, I prance through the aisles of Gold Rush filling my basket with whatever oddities and sale items that catch my attention every time I enter this sanctum. It's a Costco for alcoholics basically. You can always find the staples for your home bar on sale, and a pretty limitless selection of all things alcohol (though the beer selection leaves a bit to be desired). What's more, around the holidays you can find a gift set for just about every type of spirit you've ever thought of, and for a reasonable price. read more

If you want it, we've got it! That's what I imagine the motto of Gold Rush must be. And in general, it's true. They have a really nice variety of all kinds of liquors, liqueurs, mixers, beers, wines, and drinking accessories. The nice thing about their beer is that they keep a large selection chilled (while I don't drink beer, I'm aware of the advantage this gives over other places). I like that their wine selection includes an extensive variety and a good price range--if you want to go cheap, you can. If you want to go nice, you can. There are a couple of issues that detract from the offerings. The person who helps with the wine doesn't offer very helpful information. In fact, his most regular recommendations are based on what other people buy, as in, "well, a lot of people like this one." Or else he will give a recommendation that feels more like it's based on a desire to sell a certain brand than it is to help me find a wine based on actual attributes of the wine. For example, I went in looking for new white wine, and when I asked his thoughts on the inventory, he said he thought I would like this one wine because it was a big seller and because it was a good value. When I asked about the characteristics of the wine, he looked to the back of the bottle. I've had a few similar experiences there, and that doesn't help me much. Maybe I've just asked the wrong questions or caught him on busy days since I know other people have found him helpful. The second issue is based on my own predilictions regarding sparkling wines. For some reason, a while back they reduced the number of sparkling options they keep chilled, and I feel like the chilled options tend to run either super cheap (Cooks, Andre, etc.) or higher mid-range (the Veuves and Moets). I think a wider variety of the plain mid-range would make more sense, and other places in town offer a bit better selection in the chilled. But for the unchilled sparkling, they do have a lot, but they don't supplement the stock much with interesting varieties, and this definitely isn't the place to go for unusual choices. Good old standards and the big names can be found here. Pricewise, I would say Gold Rush non-sale prices are mainly competitive but not cheaper. Sometimes, things I buy are cheaper there, sometimes they are cheaper elsewhere. It has plenty of high points, a few small weaknesses, but it's a really good store that's one of my go-to stops. read more

Christmas eve, my wife and i stopped in to buy some wine. it was 5:55 pm. they closed early that day...6:00 pm. as soon as we walked in the door, what i assume was the "manager" looked directly at us and said "you have 5 minutes to make your selection and check out...5 minutes, hurry" i was ready to turn around and walk out, but my wife reminded me that most places close at 6 today so we might not have an alternative. if you close at 6...lock the doors at 6. if i am in your store, christmas eve or not, and you make me feel that uncomfortable to spend my money with you...i wont! i was out of your store in 3 minutes with the last 6 bottles of wine that i will buy from you for a long time. As far as alcohol selection goes, you can't beat Gold Rush. A friend from North Carolina walked in with me and ended up spending the next hour just perusing the coolers and muttering about how he wished he had something similar at home. All the things you want and need are here in one place. I don't drink wine, so I won't speak on that, but their beer and liquor choices cover a lot of bases. I've been drinking lots of Belgian and German beers of late, and I've been able to find almost all the styles and brews I've been searching for (and some I wasn't searching for). Likewise, I've found a bunch of high quality scotch and Irish whiskey. The prices aren't going to blow your mind, but for one stop shopping, I'm not sure any other Anchorage liquor stores can beat it. read more

I used to love this place, they have a large selection and reasonable prices. But I've finally had it with buying bad bottles of wine. I am a "3 strikes your out" kind of person. I opened a bottle of wine I bought from them last night, and I could tell it was no good looking at the cork. Dried out, and the wine tasted like vinegar. This is at least the 3rd time this has happened with wine from Gold Rush. They store most of their bottle upright, and apparently they've been like that for a while. I was able to get a gift card from a previous bottle, but now that I don't have a receipt, I've basically thrown away $17 for useless wine. I could blame it one other factors, but the store doesn't promote proper storage of wine from the recurring bad bottles bought from them. The store is more like a Costco for liquor, which is awesome, but obviously not specialists. I'm being harsh, but I simply am not wasting my money here anymore. VERY DISAPPOINTED! I was in there today, I walked up to the growler section and was yelled at to get away from them as customers aren't allowed over there! There is one 6 ft table separating this "area" from the store with things to buy on either side, within easy reach of the taps! I was made to feel like I was trying to steal alcohol from the taps! If they don't or can't have people near the taps then there should be a clear separation between that and the rest of the store! I will never shop there again! read more

I'll reiterate my previous review. The staff is great. People are very helpful and polite. Their selection is wide and far-reaching. But there are so many expired products. I just went here tonight, and my husband checked a few different six-packs that were (conveniently) on sale -- they were all expired by at least a month. Their "build-your-own" six-pack shelf had expired beers. Plus, their prices aren't always comparable to the other stores -- sometimes their 12-packs are a few dollars more than nearby Brown Jug and Fred Meyer (Blue Moon, for example, is at least $3 more here). I've stopped buying oddball or discount wine from here and will stick with more centrally-placed, faster-moving wine, as I'm confident they aren't expired or stale. I'm disappointed in the poor rotation of product. I'll still come here, occasionally, but jeez, someone should really take a better tally of their inventory. read more
