This Brown Jug Warehouse has been recently remodeled. Their entrance has been moved completely. In addition to what feels like a larger brighter interior...the product layout seems more organized than before. Brown Jug now has similar items and sales as some of the more niche spirit stores. Brown Jug Warehouse is aptly named. Another store with a giant selection of booze and I was quite fond of the place. Brown Jug had a stellar wine selection that was off in its own little corner that had a great range of price points. The displays were inviting, almost beckoning, for a variety of the product. My friends and I often found ourselves in the bourbon aisle which they have a large selection of from old favorites to some rarer bottles. The employees were always very polite as we asked about certain brands or to unlock a case. The space is not as open as some liquor stores, and they use every inch they can for product. It felt a bit harder to find certain selections, but it also resulted in more wandering which is always pleasant in a large liquor store! read more

Talk about a big store! It takes a while to browse this entire store, which is kinda nice to do sometimes... and we did this time around while stocking up for a party. We started out to the right, in the wine section, perusing and trying to take it all in. A few wines have descriptions, but not all, which I do wish they did. So many wines from around the globe, many that I'm familiar with and many more that I'm not. Yes, I could sit there and look them all up, but the little tags with information is so helpful, I wish they did it for all, or many more. They do have a decent selection of wines that have been scored as well, so if you're into that, it's nice to have and if you're not, it can educate you if you can trust someone else's opinion on wine or need a little assistance. They didn't have one specific vineyard of wine that we were looking for, which was a bummer, but found many others that we are looking forward to trying and introducing others to as well. Plenty of beer, mixers and liquor to choose from! We were sooooo pleased to see the Don Julio 70th Anniversary bottle of Tequila, because it's fabulous! We received it as a gift a while back and haven't seen it in any of the smaller stores, so of course it came home with us. As others have mentioned, 10% off was granted for purchasing 6 bottles or more of wine, several other items were on sale and the cashier looked through a box of coupons he had and found and additional $3 off coupon for one of our purchases. On top of that, he gave us a 10% military discount on anything else that wasn't on sale already. They have full and pony kegs for those having a big party. We considered going that route, but chose multiple cases instead for the different tastebuds out there! They treat their employees like crap and the better you do your job, the worse you are treated, it's really messed up and I have seen it for years and it just keeps happening. Every time they get someone good, by that I mean can speak, make correct change and acts like they don't hate being there, they end up screwing them enough times that they eventually quit (or even worse, get fired for some trumped up reason) but the more you hate your job (come to work drunk, drink at work, sleep and act like they hate their job) the longer you get to keep your job. I think management is so bad that they hire people like themselves and don't even care. Brown Jug is a bad joke they should be ashamed of themselves. read more

If you're a beer drinker, the state of Alaska has around 40 breweries, but only about 25% of those are in Anchorage. Brown Jug serves as a nice one-stop shop for all of your local and state-wide craft brew needs. You may save a little bit of money by going direct to the brewery, but it's tough to beat the convenience and variety. read more

Always here to get our 3 bottles of Makers Mark, Casamigos Tequila Reposado and specialty liquors for cooking. But here they give you 10% when you buy any liquor. Mix and match yo your hearts content but always get 3 of something. Wine you have to get 6 bottles to get the 10%. read more

The Granddaddy of the Brown Jugs! I'm not sure what the history behind Brown Jug is...but when I first moved to Alaska it was strongly suggested that I go there for all my frosty brew needs. I was not disappointed! The Jug consistently has some of the best prices around and seems to have different items on sale nearly every week. They also have a sort of buyer's reward program that gives you 10% off your first purchase! This Brown Jug is huge. If they don't have it here, they probably don't ship it up to Alaska. They also fill growlers here! They have a ton of stuff on tap! Oh, the staff here are also very helpful and knowledgeable about their alcohol! read more

When staying here I always stopped here to get my supplies. I really like this store it's always well stock and a great selection of Alaska beers. Love the Alaskan pale white beer it's so good. Also they give out discounts when you buy 6 bottles of wine. You'll get a 10 percent discount on yours order. Seemed to be cheaper here than most other stores in the area. read more

decent selection, but the place was in complete disarray. bourbon was, literally, scattered throughout the store (in every section including vodka & tequila). they were getting ready for a big bourbon event, but it was impossible to find anything. the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, though. so i'll definitely try again. read more

Caveat Emptor / Buyer Beware! Pros: I admit they have a fairly good selection of wine, spirits, and beer for Alaska along with prices that, depending upon the item, are not too much above normal (aka Lower 48) retail. Cons: This location has a chronic problem with false advertising due to incorrect pricing. I can think of three instances off the top of my head to illustrate this issue: 1) Over a year ago I wanted to celebrate a special event and went to splurge on a bottle of nice wine. When I went to check out the price at the register was $20 over the price displayed on the shelf. They said they had just increased the price in the system but hadn't updated the sticker yet. I declined the purchase. 2) Several months ago I went to purchase a bottle of champagne for a family member's birthday. Again, when I went to check out the price at the register was $18 higher than the price tag in the refrigerator. They said someone had put the bottles in the wrong spot, but were kind enough to honor the advertised price. 3) Tonight I attempted to purchase some champagne (for an anniversary) that was advertised at $34.99 a bottle, but when I went to check out... You guessed it, the price was higher. Much higher. It rang up at over $87! After 15-20 minutes of running around, checking stock, and asking the manager, they thought they found their error. Evidently there are TWO rosé champagnes by the same maker which look alike, but they mistakenly displayed the higher one at the lower price. They were out of the lower priced version and would not match the advertised price because it would be below cost. So they *can* do the right the thing and honor their advertised price -- but only do so if they still make a profit. They did offer me 5% off; I declined. I asked if they had any comment cards for feedback and they said no, that my only recourse was an online review. So here I am. One final point: every pricing error has been in their favor. I don't recall ever being surprised at the register by being charged LESS than the advertised price. Interesting... I was going to state that I only shop there occasionally, but according to my financial software I've spent thousands with them over the years. I'm sad to say they may not be receiving any more from me. read more

Most of the Brown Jug Stores I have been to was Great. The Associates at these Stores are very helpful and they take the time out to call other stores for an Item I need. An Associate at this one was very rude and no help. I believe her name was Christian. read more

Husband and I stumbled into this Brown Jug location shortly after moving here. The bottled beer and wine selection is extensive and the staff is friendly. Then... Then there is the growler station which is the creation of Tyson. It. Is. Brilliant! Mostly state brews and a few lower 48 make up the schmorgisboard of selection. Tyson is knowledgable, outgoing and is always able to match up your planned supper with an ideal brew. Also, the prices are better than reasonable! Half growlers average $6 and full growlers average $12... for the cost of two pints at a bar you can have five. Get there early though as currently Tyson leaves at 1800 each day. Tyson ensures the variety remains fresh while keeping a few favorites a constant. $10 full growler of the Apple Cider everyone seems to enjoy around here. Highly recommend!!! read more

Lots of choices at this jug. I usually stop by a jug that's closer to me, but this location has a few hard to find items that the others don't. If you are into growlering, there are a host of choices (25 today). The prices are about the same as Gold Rush, but cheaper than Fred Meyer, Bodega, or Wine House. I think this is my favorite Brown Jug because it has a wide variety of beers, knowledgable wine staff, plenty of wine to choose from, and an area to fill up growlers. Staff are generally quick and efficient. Parking can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but overall it's quick in and out. read more

This is the place where you buy you liquor!! Since Fred Meyer does not sell individual drink, this liquor store was perfect for my boyfriend. The Brown Jug in Fairbanks was much bigger than the one in Anchorage, but it's the same. They even sell Alaskan smoked salmon and other Alaskan products. The workers even give you recommendations and suggestions which drinks are the best to buy. It's just like BeVmo! :D read more

The attendant at the growler station was by far the rudest person I have encountered during my visit to Alaska. He refused to sell to us because we had a minor with us-we were unaware as we have no such law in Georgia. We very politely asked the lady at the front if we could take the minor back to our rental house and come back. She said okay. We came right back and the "gentleman" at the growler stand very very rudely said nope. He was sanitizing for closing. He went above and beyond to be a complete and utter jerk.
