This place has the opposite problem that 49th State has: Pretty good food and bad beer. The beer here is very, very bad. It is some of the worst beer in the state. I had a hazy IPA here during Fur Rondy and it tasted candy-sweet, oxidized, and had a chemically-bite to it. It is one of the worst beers I've ever had. We always have an amazing time, and this time they showed out yet again. I usually get a steak but this time I got the pasta. So good! I'm always relaxed because they take care of you and you never have to ask twice for anything. I'm sad they had stopped the bread, oil and vinegar but hey things change. Glacier BrewHouse was recommended by my concierge for seafood and ambiance. I suggest making reservations ahead of time since this is a popular restaurant. Wait times during my visit without a reservation was an hour on a week night. I really liked my server because she gave honest recommendations as to trying to sell the most expensive entrees. I got the seafood fettuccine. The sauce was was rich and creamy. The dish was filling with the salmon, scallops, and cod. I was going to get the chowder, but my server suggested not to since my dish was similar to the chowder......additional dollars added to her tip. We had our work Christmas party here with about 10 of us. They placed us in a small room that was perfect for the size of our party. The waiter was fast and efficient with drink and food orders. Our group had a few appetizers - The Tower, the wings, pretzels with cheese. My favorite was the shrimp in the tower. The wings were a bit small and crunchy for my liking. For my entree I had the stuffed halibut and it was really good. Sometimes halibut can be dry and dense, this was perfect. Tried searching for the best restaurant in Anchorage while I was in town and saw this place. I was looking for fresh seafood and I found it. I went with the Salmon BLT and I upgraded the Salmon to the King Salmon. It was absolutely delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the bread choice for the sandwich. The interior is absolutely beautiful with the high ceilings, exposed wood beams, and huge gas fireplace in the middle. Ordered the king crab for $150! Boss was happy to see the price for their king crab was lower than several others, with an extra 1/4 lb offered to boot! I have tried very, very hard to find restaurant I enjoy as much as Glacier BrewHouse. Have I had any luck? NO. Even my husband agrees this is hands down one of the best meals we've had at a restaurant. Let's start with the drinks. House-brewed root beer and cream soda? Get that. My husband couldn't decide which one he wanted so our waiter brought him a little shot glass of both to help make a decision. Here's a fun fact: he ordered both. If you're feeling boozy, the bartender pours one heck of a lemon drop martini. I may have had three of them. I truly don't remember. LOL. I can tell you that I without a doubt had at least two. After the second, I specifically remember our very sweet waiter bringing me a glass of water and telling me to hydrate before I went home. I obviously had a designated driver so it made me chuckle. My husband and I still laugh about it every so often. Before we ordered our meal, our waiter also specifically asked if we had any allergies. I'm kind of bummed I don't remember his name (blame the martinis). Since they have a somewhat extensive menu, it was very thoughtful. In anticipation of our trip to Alaska, I swore I would find myself King Crab legs somewhere. And, alas, Glacier BrewHouse satisfied the craving. The crab meat was so yummy. Very sweet and flavorful. I also asked for jasmine rice instead of the potatoes it normally comes with. My Asian ancestors would be proud. My husband ordered the ribeye and basically finished it before I could open my third crab leg. Didn't even offer me a bite...that's how you know it was good! I may have snagged a piece while he was mid-sip of his root beer. I can confirm it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The bread pudding was a great choice to wrap up our dinner. We left full of delicious eats all around. The only cons are (1) you have to be prepared to walk a bit. Street parking is hard to find and once you settle on a lot, you can expect to pay upwards of $15 in parking fees before dinner. (2) You're not getting in without a reservation. Well, maybe you could, but you'll likely be waiting awhile. I made our reservation weeks in advance. Other than that, we had a great dinner in a very lively atmosphere. After one bite (I had to beg him to try), he needed up eating half of my king crabs. If you have sensitive hands, use the cloth napkin to open up the shell. This king crab leg is one of the best I've had in long time. My buddy got the rock fish. I thought the rockfish was little dry and tougher than I expected. Salmon dip was rich and very flavorful. Came this morning for brunch. They have four items on their brunch menu, you can also order from their dinner menu which also is their lunch menu. Brunch was NOT good. Shrimp and grits were $25 and the grits tasted fishy. I got the buscuits and gravy, came with three eggs. The eggs were disgusting. Tasted like they were powdered or something. The biscuits were good, like buttermilk, fluffy and fresh. The gravy was ok, I prefer non peppered gravy. The bacon was good and it was also peppered. You dont have to pepper everything on the plate. My friend got "the classic" she ordered fried eggs hard, they came out runny. The waitress' response was "they are usually only good at over cooking eggs" her fried potato's were cold and soft, not crispy at all like they should have been or even looked crispy. We were very dissapppinted for brunch. They have the same menu for lunch as they do dinner and the food gets old honestly. We got gift cards from Costco but we won't be coming here again. read more
