You can't miss the Club Paris neon sign when you're in downtown Anchorage. The restaurant has been around since 1967 and it definitely shows its age -- and that's part of its charm, and the inside hasn't changed much since then. It's very dark inside, to the point where we had to use our phone flashlight to read the menu. The only reservation we got was at 8:30 PM reservation on a Tuesday, and upon arriving, our server let us know the kitchen closes at 9 PM, so we had to order fairly quickly. Definitely make reservations because the restaurant is always full. We started with the fried mushrooms appetizer, which were huge and stuffed with an andouille sausage and bread stuffing which tasted ok but super filling. For our main course, we shared the filet with Alaskan king crab ($165 market price). The entree came with a salad and bread. The steak was cooked perfectly and was a good quality cut, but the crab was disappointing -- it didn't taste very fresh and had a mushy texture. For what we paid we were mostly displeased with the crab. Service was good overall, and the staff was friendly and attentive. However, for the price, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. I'm glad we tried it for our first trip to Anchorage, but I don't think we'd return. The steak was solid, but not memorable enough to justify the cost.

Went back again many years after I first went here. The food and service were both excellent

This place is classic, quirky and the food is top quality. Reservations are made via telephone and open Monday morning at 9 AM for the week. It looked like plenty of people sit at the bar and have their meal there. The servers all seem to have individual personalities. The food is very good. My fresh Alaskan halibut was amazing. We saw crab legs go by a few times and they were huge. My companion had a steak that was very good. Also, we shared Key Lime pie that had a great crust. Plus the filling was not too sweet, perfect tartness. Be aware...Anchorage has a new law: anybody who orders a drink, will be carded. I was with an 87-year-old and they were not served as they did not have an ID on them.

If you don't know about this place, you are missing out. Wine menu kills. Get a big red, French onion soup, and 8 oz. filet at the bar if you are by yourself. Share the bottle and make friends. If you want a table call promptly at 3pm and leave a message. Otherwise, prepare to wait. It is worth it. Inside is classic steakhouse. Wood panel, black and white photos on the walls, carpet that makes a frat house floor look and smell like marble tile. Don't miss it!

Burger and steak fries

First time coming here for lunch and I order the daily special burger which was a jalapeño bacon burger with fries for $17 - which for downtown Anchorage seems like a good value. I'm on a mission to find the best burgers in Anchorage and this is going to rank towards the top. The burger is made from filet mignon trimmings and the flavor was noticeably better than your typical burger. What made it for me was the garlic aioli. The steak fries were delicious too! Service was neither here nor there, but I can say I got sat quickly and served quickly. Quite dark in the restaurant which isn't my favorite vibe but there are some windows you can sit by for more light. Maybe one day I'll actually splurge on a dinner here...

First thing I want to mention is reservations are HIGHLY recommended. We visited on a Wednesday evening without a reservation and got lucky with availability at the bar. Steve, bartender, was very attentive. Husband ordered the prime rib end cut and claimed it was incredible. I had the teriyaki chicken and found it delightful. Carrot cake was delicious. If you get the chance, please visit.

An Anchorage institution!

While recently visiting Anchorage my buddy suggested lunch at Club Paris. Told me they were known for their great food and service. They delivered! Of particular note is the 'old school' ambiance. Made the experience even more memorable. I'll be back!

If you're looking for an old-school, dark, and traditional steakhouse vibe, Club Paris definitely fits the bill. It has that classic feel with a menu to match--think standard cuts of steak, baked potatoes, fries, and simple salads. I ordered the ribeye with a baked potato and a side of fried prawns. Everything was just okay. The steak could've used more seasoning to bring out the flavor, and the prawn batter wasn't as crispy as I expected. For dessert, I tried the sweet potato dish, which had potential--but the drizzle of Hershey's chocolate really overwhelmed the flavor and hurt the overall presentation. Overall, it's a nostalgic spot with a straightforward menu, but the execution left a bit to be desired. Probably better for those who love that classic steakhouse atmosphere more than for the food itself.

Dinner special with shrimp

Club P is the spot if you are looking for Steak or anything of the sort! We came in and had the special with some onion soup and it was all deliciously. Soup was very tasty and the tenderloins were cook to perfection. I also got a side of shrimp which was delicious but it was $11 for 3 shrimp so not sure if I'd do it again. The ambiance was perfect for date night so definitely come check this place out! I hear they also have very good burgers and service for lunch!

The food was good, came here with a group of friends. It was suggested to us by some of our local friends. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the steamed clams and ate the bread and butter. It hit the spot. My friends ordered a lot of different things...mostly steak...and they enjoyed their meal. I forgot to take pictures...too much going on at the table!

Petite filet with rice

The food and atmosphere are amazing. It looks like a little hole in the wall place in anchorage, but I highly recommend it. My wife and I had the petit filet 8oz. It came with a side. I had rice and my wife a baked potato. It was literally 4 inches thick and cooked to perfection with a nice char on the outside.

The aura of the restaurant was intimate and calm. Upon arrival, the music was low and relaxing, setting the perfect tone. After about an hour, the music was turned up slightly--not too loud--allowing everyone to continue enjoying their own conversations. It was definitely a night filled with many celebrated birthdays. When the food arrived, it was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. My family and I loved that everything tasted exactly as described on the menu. It truly made the experience even more enjoyable.

I agreed and arrived promptly at 5:00. Several people were ready to enter when the 'open' sign lit up. The restaurant is small, with high industrial ceilings and dark walls. It was nicely furnished with white tablecloths and cloth napkins. The seat at the bar was fine, and the manager mentioned that there were hooks under the rail for our bags. A nice touch! We were there for appetizers and ordered a glass of wine and a rhubarb seltzer first. For food, we ordered the Parker House rolls (out of curiosity to see what a $9 roll tastes like), mac and cheese, tempura shrimp, and the whipped goat cheese and pepper jelly. The rolls arrived first, a small plate of four glistening rolls. I am a pretty good baker, so I may be critical. The rolls were warm, with a buttered top and a sprinkle of salt flakes. The flavor was okay, but I didn't enjoy the overly salted dough. I asked for more butter, but the flavor was disappointing. It seemed rancid. I didn't finish the one I tried. I imagine others might enjoy them... The mac and cheese was delicious! Arriving in a hot metal dish, with a nice bread crumb topping. The cheese was plentiful, and the warm, cheesy dish was ample! The whipped goat cheese and pepper jelly was reminiscent of my Mom's 1970's cream cheese and Pickapeppa Sauce party dish. The items that made the dish delicious were the champagne-dressed arugula and sliced tart apples. The small slices of bread spread with the goat cheese, topped with arugula and sliced apples, gave a creamy, spicy, crunchy, slightly bitter bite! The best dish was the crispy tempura shrimp. They were medium-sized shrimp with a very light, crisp batter! They were tossed in an Asian-inspired chili aioli. They arrived hot and delicious! It was a large serving for an appetizer! My only challenge that I knew that reheating them would be impossible, so we left some behind! The wine list is beautiful, and they offer a nice selection of reds and whites by the glass. I was able to taste a couple before selecting a Malbec. A bonus for my non-drinking friends was the large selection of mocktails, non-alcoholic sours and spritzers, low ABV cocktails for light drinkers, frontier sodas, and coffee drinks professionally made! I looked around the restaurant and saw beautifully cooked steaks! Rare looked rare, and medium was the exact shade of pink I prefer! I will return for a steak soon! My only amusing issue was when I went to the nicely appointed restroom, where there were four chairs across from the toilet, in a nice row. It was hard not to imagine a ghostly audience...

We got the Chocolate Birthday Cake for dessert and they topped it with a cute candle. Lastly, whiskey spelled without the "e" is Scottish, which is what I learned in Scotland, and with the "e" in Ireland. Also, during Pangaea 4 continents had been merged and when split left 4 types of peat, which is why Scottish whisky is so sought after. I've been schooled about Japanese whisky, but when in Anchorage you can get it one of the whiskys at Ginger. Had my sister try on of the Japanese whiskeys in Scotland as part of her flight. It's a must try. I will come again, and will enjoy it, but just kinda squint at the cost...

The family that owns and operates this gem is Greek and they are not only amazing cooks, but they care about their community!! I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here. I've eaten the Meatball sub, The Philly, the lasagna and The Gyro ( lamb and chicken) all have been 10 out of 10. The ambiance is like a neighborhood dinner with a small dining room. I was really hungry so I got there right when they opened at 11 a.m. I was able to be seated immediately and opted to sit upstairs where the tables were lower as compared to downstairs where the tables were high tops. Off the bat the food is phenomenal. For starters I got their popular handmade Bavarian pretzel. It was perfectly seasoned with butter and salt and the pretzel itself was soft and fluffy. It came with a side of cheese which was just as tasty. I was a little nervous it would taste like the melted cheese you eat at an amusement park- but this cheese had fantastic quality. One really neat thing about this brewery is they make their own fountain drinks! I tried the raspberry one and as you can see they aren't shy about the portions! The drink was really good. It had a great flavor to it, and a nice balance. The raspberry wasn't overpowering which I'm grateful for. For my entree I had the Yak burger that came with a side of tater tots. My waiter recommended I get it cooked at medium to keep it juicy. Typically I'm a medium well to well done type of girl, but I decided to trust his judgement and he was right! The burger was huge, messy, and delicious. The medium was definitely a good call. It was juicy but not so red where it would be off putting! Overall, I had a really incredible dining experience at 49th state brewing. And the prices were unbelievably reasonable. My meal came out to about $52 (not including my tip). I would love to come back when it's a bit warmer and sit outside- the views from the restaurant are phenomenal. Also, shout out to my waiter!
