When I saw Altura was offering their scallion Mac nut crusted Alaskan White King Salmon with a ginger coconut broth, I came here in less than a week for our first dinner in Alaska. It was so good, I wish I got my own order instead of just a bite since I couldn't share the Kodiak Scallops with my shellfish intolerant hubby. The scallops were unfortunately way too salty so wasn't sure if it was salted twice. The cambozola and roasted garlic starter and newly added peach and burrata salad was perfectly balanced in flavors that made me liked accompaniments like parsley purée and mint pesto that I otherwise wouldn't. Even though it was still sunny and warm upon leaving at 9pm, someone needed a nap after eating all that to be awake for the 11:41pm sunset at Point Woronzof and that midnight sun.

**Altura Bistro was a great dining experience with some standout dishes.** We started with the bone marrow, which was just okay. The mushrooms with vinaigrette threw me off, and I wasn't a fan of the crispy bread it was served with. Luckily, the warm sourdough bread that came out separately really came in clutch--fresh and comforting. The pork belly was a highlight. It had the perfect balance of fat, crispiness, and meaty richness--everything you'd want in a pork belly dish. The red curry was amazing--super flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The king crab legs were another win. The Cajun seasoning was bold but not overpowering. Honestly, some of the best I've had in Alaska so far. We finished with the pear dessert, and it was heavenly. The texture of the pear was spot on--not too soft, not too firm. The creamy custard and cookie crumble paired beautifully with the spiced pear flavors. **Definitely a spot to add to your foodie list!**

The daily burger special today on 12/5/25 was the most flavorful burger I've had in a long time it was the loco moco burger. House made bun ,house ground beef patty , with brown gravy and green onions so flavorful. Nice job guys

Thank you so much for seating us at 8:55 when you guys close at 9pm first of all. I hate being that guy, but I couldn't fit in another time sadly. Now this dining experience was an EASY 11 out of 10. The first thing being our waiter entertaining us throughout the entire dinner & giving us some fantastic recommendations not just on the menu but all over Anchorage. He is what holds a good business together. We talked about everything from other food spots to video games, it kills me that I didn't get his name but he made the experience so much more enjoyable. Now on to the food, the bread and butter came out HOT so it was already a great start. Decided to go with the Elk Tartare because why not, this was a little different than I was expecting but in a good way. The Pork Belly was what stole the show as far as appetizers go, soooooo tender and the sauce it comes with had me in heaven. The Ribeye was EASILY one of the best I've ever had in my life. I remember cutting into it and seeing it nearly MELT like it was a hot knife through butter. It was THAT tender, I almost cried with every bite. The Alaskan King Crab with that CAJUN flavoring was perfect with the steak. Can't visit Alaska without the King Crab Leg right? HUGE piece of Crab so we were almost full, but then you know we had to see what the caviar and SEASONAL gnocchi was talking about. Every bite almost sent me into a coma . Ended the night with the Cheesecake with brownie fudge crust and the Quatro Leches both stupendous. This was easily my favorite meal in Alaska and the best dining experience I've had in a long time!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!

Altura is one of the best, if not the best, restaurants in Anchorage - do not be persuaded otherwise by its location in a strip mall in midtown rather than downtown. Every time I dine here, the waitstaff are lovely, the vibe is cozy, and the food is incredible. This visit, we had the daily soup to start, which was creamy and tasty. For an appetizer, there was a hamachi special, which had the most delightful yuzu sauce. For a main, I had the Kodiak scallops, which were cooked to perfection and perfectly paired with asparagus and risotto. I do not know if I've ever had better scallops elsewhere. I love coming to Altura and I'd recommend it to anyone in Anchorage who wants a delicious meal of seafood or otherwise!

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Great service. Great atmosphere. Phenomenal food. I hear the lunch menu is great and affordable. Dinner cost a penny, but was worth it.

Yuzu foam oysters were delicious! So was the complementary bread and butter yum! Actually everything was great! I tried all 3 mixed drinks and they all tasted identical with the exception of the Negroni being a lil more Smokey. Marrow was average, foie gras tasted just like tripitas which we enjoyed!

Kodiak Weathervane Scallops with a cold Orso

First. The bread has only a subtle tiny sign of being crusty. Soft in all the right places. A great start! And it only got better and better. I'm a big fan of mushrooms and gnocchi, but I haven't had them together. Usually, gnocchi is in a heavy and tasty cream sauce resulting in a lack of attention to the gnocchi and, what I realize now, a nod to the sauce. The gnocchi at Altura was slightly connected to a delightful mushroom crème sauce, that, while incredibly tasty, did not detract from the flavorful and firm pasta. The entrees were amazing. I wasnt sure about cold pesto orso that accompanied the scallops, but I shouldn't have feared. It was full of flavor and interesting. Paired perfect with the scallops without overpowering their flavor. Wine was tasty. Service, spectacular. I realize I probably give out five stars too freely. Altura should be six or seven stars on my current scale. Final note: It's amazing how I've never really comprehended location of a restaurant as measurable entity. If I had one complaint (and let's be clear here, I DO NOT), it would be the door to the outside doesn't have blinds (maybe they can't?) and throughout dinner there were a few cars that pulled into a space and sort of killed the ambiance for a few moments.

Brussels Sprouts. I think these fell from the heavens.

Always a five star experience. Tonight I had the short rib special with Japanese BBQ Sauce glaze and the compressed pickled cucumber salad. An incredible dish! My fiancé always chooses the filet, and our dinner companion had the rib eye. We were all proud members of the clean plate club. Not pictured, the great desserts and appetizers. Pick any one of them and you'll be happy. Top that off with an incredible wine selection and the best wait staff on the planet (Eliza and Steve--we love you guys!!!), and there's a reason that we check in at Altura more than any other place in town.

    $130 Waygu Ribeye

Not very impressed with their $130 Waygu ribeye for husband's birthday dinner. The menu described the steak with hasselback potato and roasted carrots. Instead we got a pile of salted bean sprouts on the plate. Their Waygu Ribeye wasn't worthy that price and it would be our first and last time to have that dish. 4 star for the great Octopus dish and our enthusiastic waitress.

Went again for lunch and yes again great quality and service. They are only open for takeout during lunch but that's ok. I did buy the cheese burger again. Wow i still just as good even eating it in the car in the parking lot of the movie theater. place is clean and well kept as always. Keep up the good work.

Was delicious would definitely go again. The prices are a bit spendy so prepare yourself. I thought the salad was really good and I don't even like vegetables. ‍

The aura of the restaurant was intimate and calm. Upon arrival, the music was low and relaxing, setting the perfect tone. After about an hour, the music was turned up slightly--not too loud--allowing everyone to continue enjoying their own conversations. It was definitely a night filled with many celebrated birthdays. When the food arrived, it was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. My family and I loved that everything tasted exactly as described on the menu. I agreed and arrived promptly at 5:00. Several people were ready to enter when the 'open' sign lit up. The restaurant is small, with high industrial ceilings and dark walls. It was nicely furnished with white tablecloths and cloth napkins. The seat at the bar was fine, and the manager mentioned that there were hooks under the rail for our bags. A nice touch! We were there for appetizers and ordered a glass of wine and a rhubarb seltzer first. For food, we ordered the Parker House rolls (out of curiosity to see what a $9 roll tastes like), mac and cheese, tempura shrimp, and the whipped goat cheese and pepper jelly. The rolls arrived first, a small plate of four glistening rolls. I am a pretty good baker, so I may be critical. The rolls were warm, with a buttered top and a sprinkle of salt flakes. The flavor was okay, but I didn't enjoy the overly salted dough. I asked for more butter, but the flavor was disappointing. It seemed rancid. I didn't finish the one I tried. I imagine others might enjoy them... The mac and cheese was delicious! Arriving in a hot metal dish, with a nice bread crumb topping. The cheese was plentiful, and the warm, cheesy dish was ample! The whipped goat cheese and pepper jelly was reminiscent of my Mom's 1970's cream cheese and Pickapeppa Sauce party dish. The items that made the dish delicious were the champagne-dressed arugula and sliced tart apples. The small slices of bread spread with the goat cheese, topped with arugula and sliced apples, gave a creamy, spicy, crunchy, slightly bitter bite! The best dish was the crispy tempura shrimp. They were medium-sized shrimp with a very light, crisp batter! They were tossed in an Asian-inspired chili aioli. They arrived hot and delicious! It was a large serving for an appetizer! My only challenge that I knew that reheating them would be impossible, so we left some behind! The wine list is beautiful, and they offer a nice selection of reds and whites by the glass. I was able to taste a couple before selecting a Malbec. A bonus for my non-drinking friends was the large selection of mocktails, non-alcoholic sours and spritzers, low ABV cocktails for light drinkers, frontier sodas, and coffee drinks professionally made! I looked around the restaurant and saw beautifully cooked steaks! Rare looked rare, and medium was the exact shade of pink I prefer! I will return for a steak soon! My only amusing issue was when I went to the nicely appointed restroom, where there were four chairs across from the toilet, in a nice row. It was hard not to imagine a ghostly audience...

The family that owns and operates this gem is Greek and they are not only amazing cooks, but they care about their community!! I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here. I've eaten the Meatball sub, The Philly, the lasagna and The Gyro ( lamb and chicken) all have been 10 out of 10. The ambiance is like a neighborhood dinner with a small dining room. I was really hungry so I got there right when they opened at 11 a.m. I was able to be seated immediately and opted to sit upstairs where the tables were lower as compared to downstairs where the tables were high tops. Off the bat the food is phenomenal. For starters I got their popular handmade Bavarian pretzel. It was perfectly seasoned with butter and salt and the pretzel itself was soft and fluffy. It came with a side of cheese which was just as tasty. I was a little nervous it would taste like the melted cheese you eat at an amusement park- but this cheese had fantastic quality. One really neat thing about this brewery is they make their own fountain drinks! I tried the raspberry one and as you can see they aren't shy about the portions! The drink was really good. It had a great flavor to it, and a nice balance. The raspberry wasn't overpowering which I'm grateful for. For my entree I had the Yak burger that came with a side of tater tots. My waiter recommended I get it cooked at medium to keep it juicy. Typically I'm a medium well to well done type of girl, but I decided to trust his judgement and he was right! The burger was huge, messy, and delicious. The medium was definitely a good call. It was juicy but not so red where it would be off putting! Overall, I had a really incredible dining experience at 49th state brewing. And the prices were unbelievably reasonable. My meal came out to about $52 (not including my tip).
