    Kodiak Weathervane Scallops

When I saw Altura was offering their scallion Mac nut crusted Alaskan White King Salmon with a ginger coconut broth, I came here in less than a week for our first dinner in Alaska. It was so good, I wish I got my own order instead of just a bite since I couldn't share the Kodiak Scallops with my shellfish intolerant hubby. The scallops were unfortunately way too salty so wasn't sure if it was salted twice. The cambozola and roasted garlic starter and newly added peach and burrata salad was perfectly balanced in flavors that made me liked accompaniments like parsley purée and mint pesto that I otherwise wouldn't. Even though it was still sunny and warm upon leaving at 9pm, someone needed a nap after eating all that to be awake for the 11:41pm sunset at Point Woronzof and that midnight sun.

Thank you so much for seating us at 8:55 when you guys close at 9pm first of all. I hate being that guy, but I couldn't fit in another time sadly. Now this dining experience was an EASY 11 out of 10. The first thing being our waiter entertaining us throughout the entire dinner & giving us some fantastic recommendations not just on the menu but all over Anchorage. He is what holds a good business together. We talked about everything from other food spots to video games, it kills me that I didn't get his name but he made the experience so much more enjoyable. Now on to the food, the bread and butter came out HOT so it was already a great start. Decided to go with the Elk Tartare because why not, this was a little different than I was expecting but in a good way. The Pork Belly was what stole the show as far as appetizers go, soooooo tender and the sauce it comes with had me in heaven. The Ribeye was EASILY one of the best I've ever had in my life. I remember cutting into it and seeing it nearly MELT like it was a hot knife through butter. It was THAT tender, I almost cried with every bite. The Alaskan King Crab with that CAJUN flavoring was perfect with the steak. Can't visit Alaska without the King Crab Leg right? HUGE piece of Crab so we were almost full, but then you know we had to see what the caviar and SEASONAL gnocchi was talking about. Every bite almost sent me into a coma . Ended the night with the Cheesecake with brownie fudge crust and the Quatro Leches both stupendous. This was easily my favorite meal in Alaska and the best dining experience I've had in a long time!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!

The daily burger special today on 12/5/25 was the most flavorful burger I've had in a long time it was the loco moco burger. House made bun ,house ground beef patty , with brown gravy and green onions so flavorful. Nice job guys

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Great service. Great atmosphere. Phenomenal food. I hear the lunch menu is great and affordable. Dinner cost a penny, but was worth it.

Altura is one of the best, if not the best, restaurants in Anchorage - do not be persuaded otherwise by its location in a strip mall in midtown rather than downtown. Every time I dine here, the waitstaff are lovely, the vibe is cozy, and the food is incredible. This visit, we had the daily soup to start, which was creamy and tasty. For an appetizer, there was a hamachi special, which had the most delightful yuzu sauce. For a main, I had the Kodiak scallops, which were cooked to perfection and perfectly paired with asparagus and risotto. I do not know if I've ever had better scallops elsewhere. I love coming to Altura and I'd recommend it to anyone in Anchorage who wants a delicious meal of seafood or otherwise!

First. The bread has only a subtle tiny sign of being crusty. Soft in all the right places. A great start! And it only got better and better. I'm a big fan of mushrooms and gnocchi, but I haven't had them together. Usually, gnocchi is in a heavy and tasty cream sauce resulting in a lack of attention to the gnocchi and, what I realize now, a nod to the sauce. The gnocchi at Altura was slightly connected to a delightful mushroom crème sauce, that, while incredibly tasty, did not detract from the flavorful and firm pasta. The entrees were amazing. I wasnt sure about cold pesto orso that accompanied the scallops, but I shouldn't have feared. It was full of flavor and interesting. Paired perfect with the scallops without overpowering their flavor. Wine was tasty. Service, spectacular. I realize I probably give out five stars too freely. Altura should be six or seven stars on my current scale. Final note: It's amazing how I've never really comprehended location of a restaurant as measurable entity. If I had one complaint (and let's be clear here, I DO NOT), it would be the door to the outside doesn't have blinds (maybe they can't?) and throughout dinner there were a few cars that pulled into a space and sort of killed the ambiance for a few moments.

Yuzu foam oysters were delicious! So was the complementary bread and butter yum! Actually everything was great! I tried all 3 mixed drinks and they all tasted identical with the exception of the Negroni being a lil more Smokey. Marrow was average, foie gras tasted just like tripitas which we enjoyed!

Brussels Sprouts. I think these fell from the heavens.

Always a five star experience. Tonight I had the short rib special with Japanese BBQ Sauce glaze and the compressed pickled cucumber salad. An incredible dish! My fiancé always chooses the filet, and our dinner companion had the rib eye. We were all proud members of the clean plate club. Not pictured, the great desserts and appetizers. Pick any one of them and you'll be happy. Top that off with an incredible wine selection and the best wait staff on the planet (Eliza and Steve--we love you guys!!!), and there's a reason that we check in at Altura more than any other place in town.

Went again for lunch and yes again great quality and service. They are only open for takeout during lunch but that's ok. I did buy the cheese burger again. Wow i still just as good even eating it in the car in the parking lot of the movie theater. place is clean and well kept as always. Keep up the good work.

    $130 Waygu Ribeye

Not very impressed with their $130 Waygu ribeye for husband's birthday dinner. The menu described the steak with hasselback potato and roasted carrots. Instead we got a pile of salted bean sprouts on the plate. Their Waygu Ribeye wasn't worthy that price and it would be our first and last time to have that dish. 4 star for the great Octopus dish and our enthusiastic waitress.

We ate at this place twice recently and everyone really needs to go here. The menu is pretty small but very solid. We had: Black Cod (with Fennel, Mushrooms and a very nice Calabrian Chili butter), Weathervane Scallops (with chilled Orzo and mint pesto), Confit Chicken (with Brie mushroom Ravioli and Beurre Blanc), Roasted Butternut Squash Salad (with a really nice hot honey vinaigrette), Mushroom Soup (lightly creamy with intense umami flavor) and the Cambozola Appetizer (lightly breaded, fried and served with blueberry preserves, purred parsley, candied walnuts, roasted garlic and crisp toast). All of these were excellent. The big winner was the Cod and the Cambozola (you need to like this cheese but man when it's merry it's at a different level). The house bread is excellent and the Cil give butter topped with Black Sea salt is addictive. The service was professional both times. There is no liquor but a nicely curated wine list. The space is a little spare but works out. Note that the atmosphere in the upper dining room is much better than the lower level. With an appetizer, a couple of entrees and wine two of you will be spending around $150, but it's well worth it for the quality of the food. As I said, everyone should go here

Most often, I leave a steak house thinking I could make a better steak for a fraction of the price at home. This was not the case here. The service was also good, which is a nice change for the area. We live here and quite frankly, the service in the Anchorage area is usually pretty marginal. So, that was a pleasant surprise. However, the sides are quite expensive and billed as "family style" but they are a single serving really. The exception was the Parker House rolls which I think came out 5 to an order. They were pulled apart and the sides of the rolls were dry, as if they had been plated up and set under a heat lamp for too long. The risotto was prepared incorrectly. It was mushy with no hint of the classic al dente. I think if they can't take the time to cook that dish correctly, they should consider taking it off the menu as it is a marker for a good meal in my opinion. The wedge salad was pretty standard fare, with a couple of heirloom tomato slices that were also mushy (although, I can forgive that given where we live as the lettuce was crisp and nice) The other side we ordered was a special, fiddlehead ferns, served braised. They were tasty, and the best non steak item we had, but a small portion and, I think $23, which seemed quite expensive. I think the next time we go, we will just share a steak with a glass of wine and skip the overpriced 15-25 side dishes.

The family that owns and operates this gem is Greek and they are not only amazing cooks, but they care about their community!! I have been there eating several times this winter and obviously homeless people would come to the door and be given water, hot soup, half a sandwich, etc. that just made me love this place more. Now to the food. First of all I had the meatball sub which was not only delicious but super filling. The meat was very well seasoned, and the fresh basil just made the marinara pop even more, add the freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and you've got something special. The homemade bread puts this thing into overdrive! Crispy on the outside, light, delicate but not falling apart and heavy enough to hold together all that deliciousness without being filling like you just ate a large pizza. Now to the ridiculous tomato basil soup. I love the clam chowder but the tomato basil is my favorite. Savory, full of flavor, smooth, creamy and not greasy. This in my opinion is the perfect pairing to the meatball sub. You're welcome! The customer service here is amazing too just like the owners and the food. You will always be greeted by a smiling face, and treated like family. You will not regret stopping here. I've eaten the Meatball sub, The Philly, the lasagna and The Gyro ( lamb and chicken) all have been 10 out of 10. The ambiance is like a neighborhood dinner with a small dining room. In addition to that, took about an hour for our salads and appetizers to come out. The waiter was beyond slow, and kept telling us how awful his 1st week had been and how the restaurant had run out of most of the food menu and some drinks. We had to ask for water (twice) because he kept getting sidetracked (mind you, there were probably about 2 other groups on the restaurant side). The steaks were overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Honestly, the sides were probably the only decent part of the meal (almost another 50min after salads). By this time; patience was running thin all around. When asked where their bathrooms were located; the woman (presumably a manager of some sort) proceeds to tell us about having 3 restrooms in the restaurant and how one had a hole in the wall because someone punched a hole in it (because it was Father's Day)?! and she just did her best to cover it with a piece of paper because she's not a contractor, what the heck does my knowing any of that useless information have to do with where the bathroom was located? (Still wondering...) We were definitely not impressed with this place; we asked for our desserts "to go" and they still got our order wrong. Oh- and apparently everyone else was offered bread as they waited, yet my group was not. Definitely, do not recommended, unless you're not hungry and have 1/2 a day to waste.
