First time trying halibut and fries and so happy that it was here!!! It was truly worth the hype, the flavor and texture of the fish were perfect. It was plentiful and very affordable! It came with fries which were perfectly brown, I loved every bite. They also have a "help yourself" block of cheese which I thought was kind of cool. Only giving this place 4 stars because the service was not good. There were 2 women working the entire restaurant which I understand may have been a lot but they were pretty short and rude when my friends and I asked questions, one of them would answer the question, not even wait for a response and walk away.. Was in town for a conference from Sunday to early Friday morning. I ate at F Street Station 3 times during that visit! Had the Caesar salad with salmon my first night in town. It was great and I enjoyed every bite of it. The "show" I got to see and be part of between the salty old cook and other patrons (and myself) was part of the charm of this place! Smitty, I believe his name is, was hilarious. Came back with a friend a day or two later and had calamari and Alaskan halibut fish & chips. The Jalapeños aoili was so good I could drink it! The calamari were great! I'd seen them my first visit and they looked life changing - they didnt look as good when I got them, but they were still delicious if not a little greasy. Had the fish & chips again on my final visit. The Texas size portion is the normal portion, while the Alaska size is a large serving because, ya know, we're in Alaska where everything is bigger! I will absolutely go back if I return to Anchorage. I might even be tempted to go to Anchorage simply so I can go back to F Street! read more

Incredible place! This was the food highlight of our visit to Anchorage. PARKING & LOCATION // Located in downtown, parking is mostly available on the street which isn't too hard to find! AMBIANCE & SERVICE // The restaurant feels like a half restaurant and half bar. We were a party of 3 and sat at the bar since there was a decent wait. We went on a Saturday night and it was super busy! It was fun to see the food being prepared and even though we were at the bar, the service was still great. It feels like you can come here for date night, a casual night for friends, or to grab drinks and meet people. FOOD // Food was incredible! Between the 3 of us, we ordered: STEAMED CLAMS: This was the star of the night. The clams were cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious. We soaked up as much of the sauce as possible. ESCARGOT: This was really good but I'd pass on it next time. There was only 6 of them so it felt a bit steep for not much protein. Still garlicky, cheesy, and buttery though. CALAMARI: The portion is large! Great to sharing and delicious. OYSTERS: Yummy oysters but nothing that stood out! Still enjoyed them but nothing stood out. Burger was good, maybe a 7/10 I enjoyed it! And the fries were pretty good too 7/10. Fair prices and good servers. By the time I finished my last bite, I noticed that the kitchen worker was not being sanitary which grossed me out. No gloves, playing on his phone, wiping his nose with his bare hands, and using the same hand to pinch the salt to salt fries (without washing them). Yikes!! Delicious food, but very busy, understaffed bar. We came on a Thursday night and upon entering, the servers were found running around and helping others. We were not greeted and there was no wait list to sign up for. I had to ask a waitress after a while how to even get a seat, to which she said "just grab an open seat when it's available." The poor service was frustrating, but understandable given how understaffed the restaurant was. Now onto the food - I ordered the salmon salad, soup of the day, and halibut and chips. The salmon is freshly caught, Alaskan salmon and it was market price. For $35, price is steep but the flavor was delicious. The salmon is definitely one of the freshest I've had, and the grilled salmon was seasoned very well. I generally don't care for seafood but this dish impressed me. The soup was alright- it was salmon with bacon and corn and the salty bacon overpowered the flavor of the whole soup. Wouldn't order that again. Lastly, the halibut and chips were good but price also was steep. Halibut had good flavor and the batter was good too. Chips were also fried well! Definitely would recommend. read more

The food really just wasn't all that great. service-wise the waitress was kind of short with us and cut one of us off while ordering and said we knew what we wanted and to move onto the next person before the last person could finish giving their order. The overall feel of the place had an uncomfortable feeling. but the most annoying part was that the cook kept coming from the kitchen bringing the food out instead of the server who must've been too preoccupied and never once bothered bringing silverware. this also happened to the table next to us who went and flat out got their own silverware which upset the staff. had they brought it out, it wouldn't have been a problem. an excellent reason why you never let your kitchen staff bring food out. let the servers do it.... read more

The waitress there was incredibly rude. I went there, and I was waiting for three others. Since I was starving and my guests were taking a while, I told the waitress that I was just going to go ahead and order and she refused to serve me saying that other people have been waiting for the table. I apologized and I thanked her, and I reconfirmed that she refused to serve me, and she said she was not going to serve me sitting at the table, that I would have to go to the bar. It felt quite a bit racist actually. She was just so cold and hostile towards me even no matter how apologetic and nice I was so I left. A downtown staple for aviators, tourists, and locals, in my opinion. We have been here 4 times and the average experience is why I rated it 4/5 stars. The sourdough crab sandwich for the first 3 times was the best that we have ever eaten! It is a nice portion served with either fries, salad, or soup. I'm not sure if the recipe has changed, but the last time we visited it tasted different and not in a good way. The calamari and mussels are also a staple for us when we visit and they are usually delicious. The biggest drawback with this restaurant is the lack of space when waiting for a table. There isn't a hostess to seat you, it is a first come, first serve basis and it can be very difficult to find a table/spot for you and your guests. The restaurant isn't the biggest, so again it can be exhausting in the winter time. The bartenders are attentive and friendly and the service has been fine. Overall, I'd recommend the restaurant. read more

Service was good. We stopped in early on a weekend and were waited on right away. Our server kept checking on us. We had a tour through anchorage so we wanted something to eat but not too heavy. The server recommended an appetizer and the soup of the day. Okay I am not a big soup person however I went with her recommendation and I am thankful I did. One the soup was hot! As it should be, right? Secondly it was tasty! As it should be! I wish I had ordered the bowl instead of just a cup! In addition we also split the smoked salmon dip with bread. It was cold. Recently we had friends visit for a few hours after their ship docked in Anchorage. We picked them up at the Egan Center which appears to be taken over by the tour companies and buses when ships dock in Anchorage but that is an other review. They asked to go South to see new areas of AK they had not visited before. This was their 3rd cruise to AK. We finished with enough time to have a lunch before they had to meet their bus at 4PM at the Egan Center. They asked that we choose something nearby and relatively quick. I first checked the Snow City Cafe online and then called to confirm that their waiting time on Saturday Afternoon at 2Pm was 40 minutes to an hour as that is one of my go to restaurants to treat visitors to Alaska excellent food. However they confirmed the waiting so I chose another downtown favorite close by. F ST Station a small bar and eatery that I was more familiar with afternoon and late visiting with co-workers and friends. But I knew they had excellent food and service and a giant cheese wheel on the bar that was self service to the patrons. It is excellent to stimulate the palate while enjoying a drink waiting for service and your food. I didn't expect it to be crowded because I rarely visited it during the midday or weekends. I retired from the State in 2006 and my time in downtown Anchorage has been ever increasing absent. Mostly passing through to the airport or trips into the hospitals. To my great surprise F Street was packed with a few locals and what appeared to be cruise passengers and other tourists. My prior experience in downtown had been pre-cruise mania. Luckily we found four seats at the bar just beside the where the Chefs prepare all the orders. We couldn't have been luckier as we got to watch the preparation and service of all the food. We chose the AK Halibut Sandwich and fries. The halibut was perfect, well breaded and fried to perfection. It was huge and hot. Fresh, slightly flaky and pure white. The tartar sauce was a perfect complement to fish. The French Fries were also large, hot, firm seasoned and not oily. My visitors said that it was the best halibut they have had on any of their visits to AK. I highly recommend that you try F Street Station as it is a hidden gem in downtown eating and the wait is much shorter than other places. I have to add a couple of recommendations beyond our Halibut Sandwich's that I almost forgot. But based on our observations of the Chef's area. I will definitely return soon to have the French Onion Soup and the Fried Calamari. You will not believe the size of the Calamari serving. It is huge and more like a serving for three or four people. The French Onion Soup is served very hot after melting the cheese and top of the dish. With all the smells we could detect by the nearest of the preparation area the Onion Soup stood out immediately as the Chef removed it from the melting oven to the waitress pickup area. If the Halibut Sandwich added not been so satisfying I told my wife I would have ordered the French Onion Soup for dessert. read more

It's pretty small with a large circular bar and many tables, VERY crowded. It's pilot themed and been around for many years/ opening hours 10am-2:30am! The menu is pretty large and mainly seafood focused and you have to get the French Onion Soup. Started with some oysters and they were just dynamite, best I've ever had. F Street Station reportedly has the best fish and chips in town. That was great for my wife who ordered that and really loved it so, it's probably good for you too if that's what you're looking for. I went along to support her in this endeavor, but I'm a vegetarian and the offerings for me are limited. They have one vegetarian item on the menu, a pasta...I'd been a bit over-pastad on this trip so I didn't want it. I would have loved it if the French Onion Soup was vegetarian (but it wasn't) so I ended up ordering bread. Hurrah! And availing myself of their famous (and free) carve your own slices of Tillamook cheese station, despite the warning sign stating the cheese was for display purposes only. So the main plus for me here is that I got to see my wife really enjoy her meal! Plus, seated at the bar (it's a pub so first come first serve, every person for themselves seating) the bartender (and our server) was really nice. The Bread I ordered was a mediocre baguette...I was happy to have it to concoct myself a cheese sandwich from the slices I carved myself. (I mean free cheese ups any place a star in my book.) Fries and garlic bread were also available. I also got the house cabernet to drink. It was poured from the end of a big bottle and tasted like it may have been open for a couple of days. They don't have a cocktail menu but they do have a full bar available (and nicer wines) so know what you want going in. For me this was a 2 or 3 star experience with very limited options for vegetarians, and what I got wasn't great...but because my wife thought the fish and chips was just about the best she'd ever had, I'm giving a four for the benefit of the doubt. read more

This place is the absolute worst. The customer service is terrible, as is the staff in general. If you are not a regular, you will wait forever and be treated like dirt when you are finally greeted. The older blonde lady who is a daytime server is one of the main problems here, not that the bar tenders are not just as bad. Extremely poor attitudes, no attention to detail, and the food is always mediocre at best. Just this alone would stop me from going back but that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this place. Trust me when I say these people are terrible human beings, and I'm not even referring to their politics. I managed a business near them and they were the worst neighbors you could have. Their employees would take our only parking spot (their ownership refused to help with this,) their trash was constantly overflowing and stinking up the area (attracting animals as well) and they have no problem boss hogging the entire alleyway behind their business with reckless abandon, even though it is a communal area for multiple businesses. Boyfriends of their bar staff would routinely park in our parking area, blaring the music, while drinking and smoking, only to be complete jerks to our staff when asking them to leave. From front to back, these people are the worst and you should really think long and hard before giving them your money. read more

Never disappointed here. During busy meal times you may have to wait for a table (high tops with barstools) or take a seat at the bar but it's so worth it. It is a bar that serves food but don't let that concern you as it relates to the food. You won't get better beer battered halibut in Anchorage. While some bars have cheap and barely drinkable wine, this one does not. They have a nice selection of Washington, Oregon and California wines reasonably priced by the glass and bottle. This place has an aviation theme and TV's in case you're looking f a game. Go see for yourself and enjoy. read more

Worst experience I've had and we had only sat down for 2 minutes. My family and I were looking for a place to eat and we came across this place, so we grabbed a seat and waited to order. Once the waitress came, we all knew she was a bitter old woman because she expected our orders to be said immediately when it was our first time being there. She then left and proceeded to come around a second time, and when we didn't not have orders ready then, she said "okay I guess I'll come back in an hour or two." Probably the rudest I've ever been treated while here visiting in Alaska. Doesn't help that we are also POC's. And even their blackboard had some very unsavory things to say. And looking online this isn't the first incident. Definitely do not recommend and wish for the closure of this place. Or at least a change in management and staff. read more

There's no control of seating, a single person can hold a table for other visitors. The food is good but it's typical tourist Alaska customer service. Not a great spot for family gatherings with kiddos since they have limited seating at tables and the they fill up before the bar seating g does. Great beers and great food. We had the clams which were cleaned well (only once did I get a sand crunch) and seasoned beautifully. Not to mention for the price, it was a lot of steamers. The calamari was fried perfectly so the breading was crisp but the octopus was still tender and easily chewable. Simple, fun and local is how I'd describe F Street Station. It definitely has it's own vibe and you'll either love it or you'll hate it but it's where you'll find many of the locals hanging out. Beer is served from Mason jars which keeps it simple and fun. The place gets pretty busy in the evenings with standing room only sometimes. Sit at the bar and you'll have some engaging conversations with the ladies at the bar. They tell it how it is without a filter and I love it. They have a simple menu with a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and entrees. In my opinion they have the BEST halibut 'n chips in town. So delicious. There's a Texas sized portion or the Alaska sized portion depending on how hungry you are. There's often a daily special as well listed on the chalk board on the back wall. Give it a try but if it's not your vibe that's okay...there's other places to enjoy in town. read more
