My favorite restaurant in Anchorage , by far. The layout of the restaurant is street level entrance with downstairs dining. The staff is just over the top amazing. Antonio greeted me at the door and sat me in just a few minutes. I was seated at the bar counter downstairs. A dark intimate hip place. The guys behind the counter were Cory, Kendrick, and another young gentleman I didn't get the name of. They were happy people and it showed. I saw from the yelpers they had Tsukemono (Japanese pickles) and my second favorite Tsukemen (dipping noodles) . I ordered both and was pleasantly surprised to see the pork belly was perfectly roasted, the 6 1/2 min egg was on point, and the noodles and broth were absolutely amazing. I am a Tsukemen fan and this place did it right. I then ordered the matcha pancetta dessert. Whoa! Completely knocked on the floor with the flavors. This is my favorite restaurant having spent two weeks here and finding this one on my last night. Can't wait to come back. Don't hesitate to eat here.
Unfortunately my most recent dining experience was disappointing. I will preface this by saying I went during the summer so I know it was very busy due to tourism season. However this was my birthday dinner so I was particularly disappointed. I reserved a table for three in the whisky bar area. We arrived about five minutes early and were told by one of the hostesses that the party at the table just paid and should be leaving soon. About 20 minutes passed before another said the party still had not left even though one of them talked to the server. Eventually I agreed to have us seated in the main dining room. Almost immediately afterward I saw two parties leave the whisky bar so I asked to be moved there, which according to one of the hostesses is where we originally supposed to be. It was over 30 minutes later when we finally got the table I reserved. This left a sour taste in my mouth and I considered leaving at one point, but I was really looking forward to this dinner. For dinner I ordered the Komorebi Old Fashioned and the Dark Horse as I often do, We also shared the whisky pork buns and everything was delicious. Dessert was not as enjoyable. I ordered their espresso martini, the Electric Stolt, which was decent enough. Lacking on the coffee flavor in my opinion. I also ordered the chocolate birthday cake which, aside from the cherries in the cake, tasted like any generic cake you would get from a grocery store. Their other desserts, like the matcha panna cotta and goma silk bar, are much more flavorable. Service overall was fine, but we got the check before my boyfriend could order another drink so we felt somewhat rushed out. Considering this is the only time I've had issues with being seated for reservations, I would go back, but this was my least pleasant dining experience here, unfortunately.
Omg what? A James beard award winner in Anchorage downtown? Amazing like AMAZING ramen Fun drinks. Fun vibes. Plenty street parking.
Their Raman and shiitake buns are amazing. The staff pays attention to every guest in the party. And the atmosphere is warm and homey.
Some of the best ramen and Japanese dishes that I've ever had. (I've had a lot) This is a seven star restaurant, with the exception of one thing. The food was perfect. The service was on point. They have a massive whiskey bar downstairs. They have an excellent menu of craft cocktails. They also have excellent mocktails. I will critique their bourbon selection only because they have a number of bourbons that are 18+ years old that they're trying to sell for Scottish and Japanese prices which are based on reality. Bourbon is not any good out of the barrel past 12 to 14 years. Corn is not the same as grains. The sugar is degrade and get dark after 14 years in spite of some companies selling some of their older swill, trying to get rid of it as premium. They were very nice. I gave the bartenders and recommendations of things that actually are worth that kind of money in the bourbon world. There was plenty to find that was not expensive and quite excellent. The only negative? The Host stand at the top of the stairs needs people who have more pleasant personality. How you greet people in the restaurant is absolutely imperative. It sets the tone for the whole meal. The whole experience. They seem to think that their job is to shoot people off because the restaurant is booked, but they do it in a manner that will make sure people don't come back. It's a little too New York curt. Smiling,and some good grace, would not hurt either of them. When they tell you, it's time to be seated, engaging people and making eye contact would certainly also help them look a little more human as well. Do make reservations. Otherwise, the wait time can be very long. Outstanding food! Absolutely worth passing through the gargoyles at the front door
This place looks small but is actually really big bc it goes downstairs so there's two floors. All the food we got was delicious, my favorite was probably the twice fried wings, and the ramen was delicious. Even the desserts were good, though there was some freezer burn in the ice cream for the baked Alaska. Also make sure to check out the bathroom, the heated toilet seat and bidet was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. Definitely check this place out!
This place is good. Highly recommend reservations. They leave space for walk ins but when we walked in it looked like a considerable wait. Had the Dark Horse, Wagyu tartare, pickles, and the crudo. All fantastic. Extensive whisky list as well, with a ton of Japanese whiskies. Good date spot too!
Came here for my friend's birthday with a group of people. Service was fast and kind. The ambiance is really nice, dark and intimate. It's INCREDIBLY loud though. We had to almost yell at eachother and constantly repeat ourselves. The ramen is definitely top tier and it's not too much or too little! It is pricy but I think worth it. From what I saw on the menu they only have one chicken option for ramen which was disappointing cause I don't eat pork in my ramen. I might have missed the other options though. We ordered pork buns which were more like tacos?? They were weird. The flavor was fantastic but they were dry as hell and only two come in an order which is not worth the price. The drinks were all soooo tastey, beautiful and fun! I highly recommend literally any of them! I wouldn't recommend this place for an intimate date as it's so freaking loud but I'd definitely recommend, and will be coming back, for big group events or girls night dinner or something!!
From the outside it looks like a typical generic storefront in downtown Anchorage. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you walked into a trendy restaurant in NYC. Upstairs they have a bar and the main dining room is in the downstairs area. The restaurant is spacious in the dining area with the 20'+ ceiling height over the main area. TIP - Get a reservation as this place is hoppin. The space is a steakhouse and ramen place. Looking around there were plenty of of steak eaters and ramen so we dove right in. Personally I am always a sucker for tsukemen (dipping ramen) so i went straight for that. The dish was good. * Good chew on the noodles. * Egg was perfectly jammy. * I would have preferred a grilled piece of pork instead of fried pork belly. * I thought the broth could have a little more kick to it and hotter. Maybe serve it in an insulated vessel or hot stone bowl (like bi bim bop). * Never had lime before in my tsukemen so i passed on it. The portions are pretty good and overall it was a tasty dish. I would definitely come back and try more of the options. Trust me, you do not want to miss out on this place, but just be sure to book a reservation.
Anchorage downtown area doesn't have much offerings in terms of food. Saw this and decided to dine in. We each ordered a ramen, and I tried the Outsider which was outstanding. They have other items on the menu which we didn't get to try and some items were a bit pricey.
I came back to this place almost exactly three years later and it's still just as incredible. The service is outstanding, and the ambiance is great. The cocktails are so good - you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The scotch egg is still a standout appetizer, and the ramen and chicken mains were incredible. I'm so happy we made it back here!!
Food is incredible had the hook and the dark horse the broth has so much flavor and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Get there early because it's always crowded. Overall awesome restaurant!
Stunning restaurant. Every staff member was very kind and polite. Service was flawless. Ramen was delicious. My favorite was the dark horse. We also got the hook and business lounge. Drinks were made with high quality ingredients. Would love to be able to come back and try the steak. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We spent a little time in Anchorage before continuing our Alaska trip, and Whisky & Ramen was one of the better meals we had downtown. We made a dining room reservation about a week ahead for 6:30 PM on a Thursday, but the place was packed and we still waited about 20 minutes for our table. We started with the Scotch Tamago and Whisky Pork Buns. The buns were soft and pillowy with crisped pulled pork, pickled cucumber, and candied chili. The pork had a firmer, almost pork-sung-like texture, and the sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors were a great combo. I also really liked the scotch tamago. The center was jammy and custardy, with a crisp exterior. For ramen, we had the Dark Horse. The broth was deep and rich with a little heat, and the noodles had a nice springy texture. It was a bit salty for me, but still very flavorful. The standout was definitely the Miso Baked Alaska. I mean, when in Alaska, you kind of have to get baked alaska at least once. This one was worth it. The toasted fluffy meringue, cold sweet cream ice cream, soft kinako cake, and salty-sweet miso caramel made for a really good mix of textures and flavors. Easily the best thing we had on the trip. Service was great. The atmosphere was lively and fun, though definitely pretty loud. read more
Wow Anchorage, what a great spot you have in Whisky and Ramen. My husband and I went on a Saturday. They state on their website they do seat equal parts walk ins and reservations so we gave it a go even though we didn't have reservations. We came a little after opening at 5:15 and were seated at a table immediately. Larger groups may have trouble without a reservation. Everything was phenomenal. My husband had a couple cocktails and I had a couple NA cocktails. I was really impressed with the NA cocktails -- they were complex in flavor and not overly sweet. Husband was also impressed with his drinks. For appetizers we got the pickles, pork buns and takoyaki. In my opinion the pork buns are the way to go. I also enjoyed the pickles and there were a good garnish with other dishes. For ramens we got the dark horse and Tokyo rich tsukemen. Wow wow wow, they were simply excellent. The broths had so much flavor. The tsukemen was a fun dish with having to assemble it yourself and dip food into the broth. Pork belly serving was very generous. Some of the best ramen I have ever had. If you are in anchorage you need to eat here! read more

This is our third time coming to whiskey and ramen. Unfortunately they only have one ramen that I would like, which is the Hook. The dark horse has nice flavor and if I was feeling a bit spicy, I would get that one even though I have a light tolerance for spice. Looking back at my pictures the two ramens are the same but they look different lol. My drink I got the Smoke Becomes Her. I didn't know but everyone around us also had this drink. It was very Smokey and mezcal tasting. Also pretty. All their drinks are pretty. The menu said it was refreshing g but I wouldn't call that refreshing, more spirit forward which was another option. For our app they have a new one that is Japanese sweet potato. It was two big baked sweet potato's with a special kind of butter. It was really really delicious. I would 100% get it again. New to the menu. We also got dessert because I have always been intrigued by Baked Alaska and never had it. Overall it was interesting but none of the flavors were going in my favor. We also didn't let the whiskey burn off enough but our waiter gave no instructions lol. An experience but we weren't able to finish it. One and done! I wish they had more variety of ramen. P.s the bathrooms are the best part of Dining here don't forget to check them out! read more

First time in Anchorage and Whisky & Ramen was on our list to try. The interior was sleek and beautiful. Service was attentive and welcoming When it came to the food we were impressed with their presentation, quality of ingredients and creativity. Their take on the scotch egg was awesome and something I'd definitely order again. Given we were in Alaska we ordered a few other seafood items which were also delicious The desserts were beautiful and delicious Highly recommend Whisky & Ramen if you're in Anchorage for an innovative and yummy meal read more

Great Semi-formal environment. Great for a date night, family gathering with reservations. The service was amazing very kind waiters and love that they took the time to set our table in the more romantic area for our date night. Recommended ahead of time, or for a night out for some drinks. We got the Dark Horse and Tokyo Rich tsukemen Apps we got the whiskey Buns and the takoyaki! Everything was delicious and beautifully served. Their alcoholic drinks were nice. read more
Love the atmosphere at this spot. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. The appetizers here are unique and delicious. The service was on point from the moment we walked in. Very friendly and just the right amount of attentive. I want the Clint Eastwood poster on the downstairs entry-side wall. The whiskey bar looks pretty fancy, though I have yet to be seated in that area. If you haven't been here yet, find an occasion and give it a whirl! read more
Amazing experience at whisky and ramen. We had reservations (which i recommend to do) and got seated promptly. The ambiance gives traditional Japanese and very classy. For appetizer, we got the pork buns which were full of flavor and perfect for 2. Next, the ramen. Mine was amazing and my friend said the same. The broth's flavor profile was so elevated beyond a traditional ramen broth. 5/5 recommend. Last but not least, the baked alaska. The whole experience of them lighting it on fire in front of you is fun. It was a good dessert, the ice cream was a tad bit freezer burnt but that's being very nit picky. It was a little over $100 for 2 people to dine, which I think is fair for what we got and the experience. Def recommend if in Anchorage! read more

There was a wait to get in for dinner of about 30 minutes (less than the projected 1 hour+), but it was well worth the wait. I would recommend reservations if you feasible, but they do have a waiting area. We were seated at the bar with a direct view of the cooks. It was like watching The Bear (without the intensity) while enjoying our dinner We ordered a drink and Shishito peppers to start. The peppers were quite hot and not as flavorful as some of the others I've had in the past. We ordered the buns (vegan option) to reduce the edge of the pepper dish and they were excellent. The drink, Flowers of the Edo, was tasty with a smoky flavor. I saw a few people ordered an old fashioned (with a matcha twist) and everyone who got it seemed happy with it. We will try it next time we are here. The star of the evening was the vegan Ramen bowl. It was tasty, filling and had a range of flavors from hot to creamy. I wish there were more vegetarian ramen options as I would like to try something different on my next visit. The baked Alaska comes with a whisky on fire that the server poured on the dish at our table, a nice spectacle. It is a large dessert and can easily be shared between two (or 4) people. This was between a 4 and 5 for me, giving 5 because I had a nice enjoyable meal. read more

Interesting cocktails, great apps and tasty ramen. Service by Ron was perfect! We enjoyed the Komorebi Old Fashioned, the Lo Di Do Di, Tree of Benevento and a regular Old Fashioned made with hibiki harmony whiskey (last was the best!) great pickled veggies and hamachi. We also had different ramens including the veggie one with egg. Standout was the TOKYO RICH TSUKEMEN. Merengue dessert was delicious. Highly recommend! read more

Stumbled upon this spot while exploring downtown, and I'm so glad we were able to snag seats at the bar. The ambiance is clean, modern, and fresh. The bar area has a lively, "cool kids" vibe--fun and energetic without being overwhelming. Don't skip the drinks! The cocktails were fantastic, and our bartender Kendrick really elevated the experience with his service and personality. We started with the wings and pork buns--both packed with amazing flavor and cooked perfectly. I went with the Business Lounge ramen because I was intrigued by the peanut flavor, and it did not disappoint. The nutty richness with a subtle heat on the finish was absolutely delicious. A great find--definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more
Two of my favorites in one restaurant? I knew i'd have to stop in and dine here while on vacation in Anchorange. Whisky & Ramen's menu consists of izakaya dishes, Ramen and craft cocktails. FYI- I highly recommend making a reservation via open table. Don't worry of you don't make a reservation, the restaurant will take walk-ins and seat you at the whisky bar or ramen counter. What we ordered and enjoyed Blistered shishito peppers Whisky pork buns Alaskan weathervane scallops The hook Drinks Komorebi old fashioned Old fashioned Wow, every dish was absolutely incredible! My only tiny gripe was that the noodles in the hook weren't ramen, but honestly, the amazing broth totally made up for it! And let's not forget the old fashioneds--simply fantastic! I was especially captivated by the delightful matcha notes in the komorebi old fashioned. What a treat! Awesome food and ambiance- I'm a fan!! read more

Whisky & Ramen was a unexpected surprise of a meal for me during my work trip. Walking into Whisky & Ramen i was hesitant about my choice, but that soon went away as the aroma of the broth filled the room. The vibe of the place is pretty modern with its dinning room and bar down stairs. The overall staff of friendly and was attentive. I ended up ordering a The Dark Horse ramen, a Matcha Panna Cotta for dessert and a Flowers of Edo for a drink. The Dark Horse's broth was flavorful and rich whiles the ramen noodles had a good consistency. The portion sizing is just enough to be satisfied. The Matcha Pana Cotta was a good dessert to end the meal as it wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet, but provides a freshness to end the meal. I personally do not drink alcohol to often the The Flowers of Edo was delicious. Overall a pleasant surprise. read more
Surprise me! Exceptional ramen in Anchorage at a restaurant that is beautiful, delicious and has craft cocktails that will surprise you! Try the desserts - legit baked Alaska! The service was exceptional. Somehow the reservation system allowed a late (11:30 pm) booking and the staff not only called but were visibly relieved when we arrived early. Not their mistake and you could feel their genuine desire to make sure we had a great experience. We certainly did! Bravo! read more
