Hot Soup w/Beef & Pork Sticks Time!
    Richard N.

This IS the place for SOUP! Warm your core! Oh and their Appetizer Sticks are Skewers of Love! Judy loves their Beef Sticks and I love their Pork Sticks. Judy was getting the sniffles after being in the cold air outside, not a flu cold but was in the mood for soup, warm and soothing. So she suggested let's go get Hott Spot soup! It's close! We had Dr's appointments at Regional Hospital and it's not very far. So in between our two appts we went for lunch. Judy Gravitates to the Tom Yum soup with vermicelli noodles but she's not into fake crabmeat, me neither am I, so we ask them to substitute it out for Manila clams. Since I was eating apps the Special Udon Soup w/Beef was going to be enough for me. They had a condiment spice bar and I added hot chili paste in oil and garlic sauce and made it a spicy bowl of goodness! It's just so good. Fresh ingredients and broths! Taste the good for the soul soups here!

Don't sleep on them fam! If you enjoy spicy food, hot pot, make your own sauce bar, Thai milk tea, etc... The Hott Spot hit!! It's giving cozy, family owned, hole in the wall vibes but that red curry soup was fire, no pun. Service was good. It would be helpful if they asked if this is your 1st time and explained things better when you arrive. The sauce bar could use some more attention. Overall 4.5 out of 5.

In transition, under new management, new name, new menu. Asian rice dishes and Asian soup dishes. Outside sign still says Hott Spot, but new menu says "King Soup." Combo fried rice portion was generous, enough for two to split, flavor was average. Calm peaceful video playing of cherry trees in bloom. Bathroom clean. Service friendly. We were the only customers at lunchtime. See photo of menu for offerings and prices

Tofu Special Spicy with added ramen

Wow! Wow! Wow! Ok this was a surprise! how did we find this Gem? I got the tofu veggie one. got it spicy. *******Warning!!!!*******heat lovers! ****** This place truly brings the heat! don't be fooled most places in town say it's hot and it's not, because it was a new place for us I didn't go to the extra spicy. I am so glad I didn't start at the top. The flavor is amazing and the spice is real! This was a meal that heated me up from the inside! They have 4 lvls of spice i got Level 3. Don't try to come and beat me i don't want anyone to get hurt. I think the owner saw me struggling and offered more broth.... I gladly accepted and it helped but was still should have started a little lower. Maybe 2 star? Crab Rangoon's as an appetizer it was very good and i very much enjoyed the different (most likely fresh made) dough. Wife got the beef soup with ramen and smartly she declined spice. Hers was also great tasting! We got ramen on both it's an up charge but we'll worth it! I will do this every time! Also got a side of chinese donuts. A fluffy fried bread that we dunked in our soup. This was fun and different. This is like other Hot pot places I have been before but i will say this is the 1st I have ever seen in Alaska. About freaking time! You will learn to love this place in the winter! Also anytime you are stating to feel a little sick or are get some of this togo! The coolest thing about this place is your food comes out to you and you let it cool in front of you, you decided when to ask (yes ask for them) to put it out for you. They have a full and I mean full bar of toppings that you can add to your dish. They have plum sauce, fresh chopped garlic, fried dry garlic, multiple levels of spice to add and honestly anything else you could imagine. I was blown away with the selection! The largest anywhere in town! Yes LARGEST! no other place in town offers you a self service spice bar like this. Overall we loved it. Place is small but could hold a nice sized group. I think they also would take a reservation, don't quote me on that. We came as part of our Monthly Date night but we will be back again for future meals! Staff was great! Place was clean and we had a blast.

    Beef soup with ramen

I had heard about this place but we had never been until now. I've never been to a place like this before here or in another state. I order the beef soup with ramen. It was $18 plus $3 for ramen. It had mushrooms, cabbage, corn, carrots, spinach?, tofu, beef, tofu skin, and other veggies probly. I didn't really like the beef it was chewy. The tofu was plain and didn't have any flea or from the broth. The ramen wasn't very many noodles. The crab rangoons were pretty good. Also got a Chinese donut which was thinly fried dough which was good to dip in the broth. We took both leftovers home but did t eat them :( Overall I'd rather just go to a ramen place and have full on ramen.

Beef hot pots cookin. Damn delicious.

We were craving some good authentic Asian food and Hott Spot definitely hit the spot. We ordered the beef hot pots and they came with plenty of veggies. And we upgraded to the vermicelli noodles for a small charge which was worth it. The hot pots come assembled for you with all the food inside and they light the fire for you. Then you just tell them when you want the flame put out. We added our own noodles and they cooked pretty quickly so we only needed the fire on for a few minutes since it's pretty intense. Good thing I had my hair up in a ponytail! They have a condiment station with items such as cilantro, sauces and garlic flakes that is self service. This is the place to come if you want an excellent hot pot meal!

    Red curry, lacked any flavor

I was looking forward to trying this place. It's a simple and small place. We ordered the lumpia and the red curry with rice and ramen. The lumpia was great but you get three tiny pieces, didn't seem worth the price. The red curry was a disappointment. It was spicy but no real flavor. I added salt and soy and it just was missing something sadly. I would maybe try it again but I was not impressed my first time.

    Veggie hot pot.

This small, unassuming establishment is a great choice if you're in the mood for hot pot on a cold and snowy day. The food is simple and delicious; the waitperson attentive and friendly. I recommend it highly. You can't go wrong.

Delicious beef sticks, soups, turon, lumpia, and kalbi ribs. We love to go here for lunch or dinner. Nice, family oriented place with good ambiance and good customer service. It is on our weekly rotation. Highly recommended.

We came here for a late lunch and the restaurant wasn't too busy. It's a pretty small spacesbits a great spot to enjoy a nice cozy and quiet meal. Their service was fast and the staff extremely friendly. My husband ordered a serving of their beef sticks (3 sticks per serving) which he adores and devoured in a couple of minutes. We both ordered a hot pot soup. I ordered a veggie and tofu soup with vermicelli while he ordered a spicy beef soup with udon. They were amazing and both broths so incredibly rich in flavor! After reading the dessert menu we just had to try a serving of Turon, fried lumpia with banana, jackfruit, and brown sugar. It was so good!!!! Overall an absolutely great experience!

The Hotpot soup is ok. I prefer the pork rib broth than the spicy one. Beef stick is good. Service was good as well.

Really? Right in front of my crab rangoons?!
    Jocelyn F.

Like the other reviewer, easy 10/10. Started with crab rangoons, perfectly crafted with what tasted like fresh filling, served with a side of sweet chili sauce. Then bowls of beef and combo soup arrived, served on little stoves. We opted for the vermicelli noodles. Plunk those in the soup, stir as it boils and cooks, and chat with your companion(s) about goings-on. After a bit, my technique was to pull bits of meat & veggies out onto my plate to cool before eating. Eventually the fire goes out and the soup is ready to devour using a spoon. This was the time of "wow that's good"! Fun experience, healthy, and definitely delicious.

House Special I believe lol. Very good.

The soup options were simple and easy to decide. Soup with a Filipino twist was perfect. The music wasn't too loud and the service was smooth and friendly.

Ask the Community - The Hott Spot

Is there anything here to eat that doesn't have wheat in it?

In the soup I had, the Tom Yum, I don't recall any wheat except for the ramen I ordered. Rice is available as a standard option. I remember shrimp, mushroom, potato, corn, and other veggies in a coconut spicy broth. The noodles came on the side… Read more

Pros: -Great food, although occasionally the portions can be a bit small for the large price of a meal (roughly 25-35 for a plate and drink) -Welcoming service, the older lady who tends to be behind the counter is very polite and asked throughout the meal if it was too our liking, which was appreciated. Cons: -Location, this can be a big deal for those with young children or single individuals. There were countless homeless people and it is situated right next to a gas station on a main road. Although I blame the City of Anchorage for this problem. Do not let this turn you away from a visit, just be smart! -Service time, this definitely shouldn't be treated like a fast food outing, it took about 15-20 minutes from order to get served and we had to go to the counter in order to get the dessert we had ordered. Not the worst thing in the world and they do humorously have a sign on the front saying that it will be a bit of a wait for food because it's all made in house. Wasn't a big problem for me but for those looking for a quick meal might not be ideal!

The employee shook his head to indicate they were closed. It took a few weeks but I made my back on Thursday afternoon. And the experience was solid. I started with the chips and salsa. I'm noticing a trend of some places charging for their chips and salsa. What's weird is the places with the most authentic chips often have one complimentary basket. And places like this with a price tag have the store bought variety. But the salsas were delicious (and the hot was even spicy!). I asked for a second mild salsa since the containers were pretty small. The tacos were good. I went for a carne asada and a Birria. The carne asada was on point. Hot and tasty without being salty. The Birria was a bit dry. The cheese helped a little. I removed one of the tortillas and dipped it in the salsas to get a little moisture to it. It made me wonder if consommé is not a norm for Birria. The restaurant was spotless and very nicely apportioned. Lots of seating for a place that looks so small from the outside.

The pictures online looked amazing, the menu looked streamlined and neat. Upon entering it is a super cute place and decorated very nicely. We enjoyed the artwork on display. Everything looked nice and clean, 8/10. Service was attentive and great. She was very quick and polite. No complaints here whatsoever! The food.... We were going to order calamari ($20) to start, but they were out. That's OK! No big deal. I decided we could just start with chips and salsa. This is not a free with your meal chips and salsa like other places but it's a reasonable $5. We received a big basket of tortillas and I enjoyed both red red mild and green hot salsas. The chips were good too. I ordered the chalupa plate ($21) and it came with two chalupas filled with chicken/potato and a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were good. I liked that it was refried black beans. I got through my first chalupa, moving the lettuce aside to check it out. I noticed my chicken was pre-packed type chicken slices. You know, the kind with "grill" marks you find at Costco that are ready for salads and already cooked. My heart sank. For the price point I was seriously expecting more. It is not difficult to roast chicken fresh and shred it for dishes... My partner ordered the burrito special ($25) and while it was a MASSIVE thing that could feed you 3x easily it was subpar to him he told me later in the car. While I did not partake in dessert I did check out the little menu on the table. While I know the odds of desserts being made in house are low, I always hope so. The desserts here are from Sweet Street Desserts which is a wholesale chain, so I passed. I'm sure they are tasty, but just not for me when going out to eat. Unfortunately I don't think this place is worth the cost of the food vs the quality. They would need to up their food quality and freshness game to bring us back...
