Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon around 5 and they had their doors open. But when I parked and walked up, they were closing the doors. The employee shook his head to indicate they were closed. It took a few weeks but I made my back on Thursday afternoon. And the experience was solid. I started with the chips and salsa. I'm noticing a trend of some places charging for their chips and salsa. What's weird is the places with the most authentic chips often have one complimentary basket. And places like this with a price tag have the store bought variety. But the salsas were delicious (and the hot was even spicy!). I asked for a second mild salsa since the containers were pretty small. The tacos were good. I went for a carne asada and a Birria. The carne asada was on point. Hot and tasty without being salty. The Birria was a bit dry. The cheese helped a little. I removed one of the tortillas and dipped it in the salsas to get a little moisture to it. It made me wonder if consommé is not a norm for Birria. So after reading Andrew H's review and seeing high rating overall we decided to switch up our Mexican night and try a new place to both of us. The pictures online looked amazing, the menu looked streamlined and neat. Upon entering it is a super cute place and decorated very nicely. We enjoyed the artwork on display. Everything looked nice and clean, 8/10. Service was attentive and great. She was very quick and polite. No complaints here whatsoever! The food.... We were going to order calamari ($20) to start, but they were out. That's OK! No big deal. I decided we could just start with chips and salsa. This is not a free with your meal chips and salsa like other places but it's a reasonable $5. We received a big basket of tortillas and I enjoyed both red red mild and green hot salsas. The chips were good too. I ordered the chalupa plate ($21) and it came with two chalupas filled with chicken/potato and a side of rice and beans. The rice and beans were good. I liked that it was refried black beans. I got through my first chalupa, moving the lettuce aside to check it out. I noticed my chicken was pre-packed type chicken slices. You know, the kind with "grill" marks you find at Costco that are ready for salads and already cooked. My heart sank. For the price point I was seriously expecting more. It is not difficult to roast chicken fresh and shred it for dishes... My partner ordered the burrito special ($25) and while it was a MASSIVE thing that could feed you 3x easily it was subpar to him he told me later in the car. While I did not partake in dessert I did check out the little menu on the table. While I know the odds of desserts being made in house are low, I always hope so. The desserts here are from Sweet Street Desserts which is a wholesale chain, so I passed. I'm sure they are tasty, but just not for me when going out to eat. I came down here during lunch break recently and it was a pleasant surprise. Roberto's is located on the ground floor of a high-rise in Midtown directly across from the organic supermarket Blue Market AK off of Minnesota. The dining area was spaciously laid out with plenty of seating available and easily accessible by two entrances, one by the street and one from the parking lot. I was greeted warmly by presumably the manager or the owner of the establishment and was seated at a table by the window. A standing sign had a chalkboard listing the daily specials. I chose the three taco platter special with chorizo, carne asada, and birria. My order came out in a matter of minutes after ordering. Tortilla chips were neatly displayed on top of the beans. The chorizo and carne asada were delicious, but the birria was far and away the best I've had in recent memory. The rice and beans were great complements to the plate and were easily finished in short time. Like other reviewers had mentioned, some of the other items on the menu are worth trying on another visit in the near future. Those that caught my eye were the Campechana Fries (melted cheese, carne asada, and chorizo topped with sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo), the Maru Birria (ramen noodles in consomme with birria, cilantro, onion, and lime...sounds like an amazing fusion choice), as well as non-Mexican items like the Brisket Sandwich (smoked sliced brisket, bacon, grilled onions, and cheddar cheese topped with habanero BBQ sauce), the Chipotle Shrimp Scampi (tiger shrimp with pineapple, diced onion, bacon and chipotle cream sauce on a bed of linguine), and the Steamed Clams (sauteed scallions, tomatoes, and wine garlic butter). Customers get a 15% discount off of their bill when they place their first online order. They also provide catering for office parties or special occasions. How have I missed this place?! They are serving up the definitive best breakfast burrito in Anchorage! They are located at the base of a mini-skyscraper I never even know existed! They specialize in burritos. There are multiple styles and interpretations, and all are absolutely incredible. I got the "Green Chilaquil Burrito". All the ingredients were ultra-fresh, you could tell it was made from scratch. The house-made sauces were the highlight for me. They were rich and...actually spicy! There's nothing more disappointing than being at a Mexican place and asking for "hot sauce" and getting a bottle of spicy vinegar. (tabasco, tapatio, Cholula, etc) I complimented the server on the food and it turns out he was the owner, Roberto! While out today running errands we got hungry and decided to try a new restaurant. Looked in Yelp and kept looking and couldn't decide. That's when my sister said i want Mexican food. We love rice and beans, so we started the drive to midtown. We pulled up and the front of the building is beautiful. I got confused because it looked like it was an alleyway, but I was wrong. We walked in and the place is amazing. Very clean, well lit and cute felt mushrooms in the windows. We fell in love and have t even had any food. We were greeted by a beautiful woman, with a remarkable smile. She walked us over to our table away from the door so we could warm up. We took our time going over the menu but decided on chips and salsa, a water and a Diet Coke. Everything sounded amazing and we couldn't decide. We finally decided and placed our orders. My sister got a classic burrito with carne asada, but she asked for the beans and rice on the side. I got the three taco plate with rice and beans. I choose the shrimp, carne asada and El pastor We started with the chips and salsa and it was delicious. I do wish the chips were warmed up but they still tasted great. Our food arrived and it looked delicious. I noticed the refried beans were black beans, I don't like black beans. But I tried them and they are really good. So don't knock it until you try it. Also let me point out, I never had El Pastor before, and she was very nice and got me a sample... I was in love! I settled on the El Pastor taco first. I put a little bit of hot and mild salsa and a squeeze of lime. Heaven!!! The rice and beans are so fresh and you could tell. I have never had rice that good and I told you the beans are great. The shrimp tacos are amazing and the carne asada didn't fail me either. We took our time to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Everyone was nice and accommodating. The entire experience was top tier. 10/10 They are new and are waiting for you to walk through the doors. Try something new, let your taste buds experience something they have never tasted before. Oof. Really wanted one of what Andrew H called the best breakfast burritos in town - unfortunately today was not it. I ordered the breakfast burrito and really should have specified what I wanted - like specifically the chilaqui breakfast burrito or at least what I wanted in it. What I received was so plain and dry, made with tater tots, fried egg and cheese, and carne asada. No salsa, pico, or sour cream inside, there was a small pile of pico on the side, and they charged me $18. Yikes. Go to Burrito Factory for the best breakfast burrito. However, the campechana fries were excellent, more than enough to share for a table. read more

My family and I had a phenomenal experience at Roberto's in Anchorage. I got the Sopes Al Pastor and Esquites, both of which were bursting with flavor. Also pictured is the calamari and the steak nachos! Everything on the table was incredibly fresh and tasted delicious! Food was authentic and great and to expectation. Been all over Anchorage and by this is the best Mexican dishes I've had so far. The waiter was very nice and helpful with everything and puntual. When walking in you automatically get an urban home look that makes you very welcomed. Place overall is really delectable and makes you almost feel as if you're home again. We ate here for the first time tonight. The restaurant is cleaned but the ambiance is plain. The service was fast and the food came our fast. I had the halibut and chips. There were 6 small halibut chucks and fries. The food was fair at best. I have had better in Anchorage. My wife had the taco plate. This had 3 street tacos, rice and beans. The tacos were fair. We have had better at Los Arcos. The halibut was 29.00 and the taco plate was 22.09. I feel this is a bit pricey for what you get and the taste. I would not recommend this establishment and will not return. There are better Mexican restaurants in this town. read more

Our family stopped by for dinner while we were visiting and we had a great experience here. The tacos were fantastic and my husband's halibut fish and chips was great too. Our server was so sweet and attentive and even brought a little cup for our toddler and some samples for her to try. The place was clean and casual inside and was nice and quiet. Four of us had a casual dinner there mid-week and all thought it was delicious. We ordered a mix of classic Mexican dishes: shrimp fajitas, tacos, a burrito and a pork tamale special. This was our first time going to the restaurant. I had read the online reviews about how good the food was and had wanted to try it for a bit now. I have also been to the owner's other restaurant on base, El Mariachi's and absolutely loved their food, so thought I would give it a try. The food was prepared fresh, good portion sizes, reasonable prices and quite delicious Unfortunately, they did not have anymore sopes left that night, which are one of my favorites, but I was still very happy with my choice, The homemade tortilla chips are thick and the homemade salsa is amazing and addicting. I told the owner she should sell it separately as it is so good! Please give this restaurant a try if you like homemade Mexican food. They have more on the menu than what is listed online and also daily specials. The only comment I have is to update their online menu, as people may not be aware of all the choices offered. Unfortunately, they are not on the main road, so it can easily be overlooked, but you will be glad to stop by. read more
