I've been here a couple of times when I've craved ramen and it's not bad. The service was excellent. Very nice staff and attentive and judging by all the people that waited to get in at opening, they are popular. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, clean and good lighting. Back to the ramen, I know I said it was good but I've lived in Hawaii where there are many ramen restaurants and was looking for different flavor profiles for their broth that I have found on the islands perhaps. This is definitely a "me thing" as I have a couple of friends who absolutely love this place. Overall SOLID 4 Stars! There are about half dozen Japanese restaurants in Anchorage, and after reviewing them on Yelp, we decided to visit this establishment. Ambiance 4 Stars - The restaurant is quaint and has limited seating (about dozen tables) and 6 bar seats. When you entered, the decorum feels like you have been transported to Japan and are eating at a local restaurant for the average hardworking people. I felt comfortable and relaxed. Lucky for us, we were able to be seated immediately because when it gets busy, there will be line out the door. And in 20 degree weather, that's not my cup of "matcha" tea. LOL! Service 4 Stars - I believe the restaurant is family owned and operated. Limited staff but the friendly, fast and efficient. Our server recommended several dishes which we ordered on a cold night. Only "ding" to our server was she didn't ask about our drinks. We were served water but she didn't take our drink order which was fine because of the yummy noodle broth we ordered. This place specializes in Japanese noodles, so don't expect a Hibachi show or variety of different sushi options. Their sushi option is very limited and you are not going to order teriyaki chicken with fried rice here. The star of the show are Japanese inspired noodle dishes and Katsu (deep fried Pork or Chicken). Food SOLID 4 Stars - We ordered Four dishes 1. 3 Stars - Pork Katsu - deep fried panko coated Pork with a tiny accompaniment of sliced cabbage. The Tonkatsu sauce (made of ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, and garlic), was liberally squeezed on the top of the dish. It was good but parts of the meat was slightly dry and the panko had a slight burnt taste to it. Possibly it was left in the fryer a little bit longer than it should. 2. 4 Stars - Kimchi Pork Tonkutso Miso Ramen Kimchi inspired w Chasu (pork belly), bean sprouts, green onions, one halved hard boiled egg, garlic flakes and ramen noodles. The ramen were al dente, had a slight chewy texture and it was a great way to soaked up the Miso broth. The miso broth was light and clear. Not as fatty or heavy as some other broths can be but had a wonderful flavor due to the other ingredients in it. This dish is loaded with Kimchi, so it might get a spicy. The Pork Katsu was a great palate cleanser to the kimchi heat. 2. 4 Stars Shoyu Ramen - same ingredients as above without the Kimchi. Also, is it chicken broth with soy sauce. The broth is light, slightly salty, and darker due to the added soy sauce. 3. 4 Stars Naruto Udon - chicken broth, shiitake mushrooms, freshly ground ginger and garlic, seaweed paper, green onions and bean sprouts. The rice based Udon noodles were thick and slippery. At times, they are hard to use with the chopsticks. The chicken broth has a wonderful Umami taste due to the earthy shiitake mushrooms. If you want more a vegetarian meal, this dish is the one. Even though they serve noodle soup dishes, don't forget to try their Japanese / Korean Curry dishes too. I will definitely be back to taste their curry dishes or appetizers like Gyoza and possibly get the Pork Katsu again just to try one more time. Also, there is a Combo Option for additional cost. I combine the Pork Katsu with the Kimchi Tonkutso for an additional $7. Check with your server or look on the menu. The prices and dish items may change later on. Enjoy! read more

Good option for ramen and curry! There's ample parking in the strip mall lot. When we arrived the door said "cash only" but they later fixed their credit machine. The place is themed with Naruto and other anime. Ramen was rich and creamy. We got the Naruto special ramen and was satisfied. We added the Japanese fried chicken starter as an upgrade. We flew into Anchorage just for one night before heading to Whittier to board a cruise ship. We were looking for simple, clean authentic food and we found it at this fantastic place . Juniper was our waitperson . We both order the Naruto tonkatsu miso ramen. But we added a set of pork and chicken Katsu and extra noodles and seaweed salad . The portions are a good size. I had enough broth left to take my extra noodles for a late night snack . The broth was flavorful, rich and creamy without being oily. I will be back again . And the prices were so good compared to some trendy places. Beer and wine and saki available. There were a few lath round tables for larger groups. This restaurant is typically very busy but we were lucky to get seated quickly on a Tuesday evening. For my first time eating here I was rather impressed with the food! The ramen came out quick but was nice, hot and delicious and the sushi was even better! Plenty of plants all around giving a very cozy feeling and there's even a nice small bar area right at the entrance. I look forward to trying something different next time. One of my friends recommended this place to me and it definitely didn't disappoint! We got seated right away and the menu is pretty extensive there were so many good items to order. I ultimately went with the kimchi miso which was actually written on a board to the left of the entrance. That kimchi miso was absolutely delicious! I had several recommendations about this place, but sadly, I was not impressed. The place looks nice with all the Naruto-inspired decor. Service was pretty fast and we got our food pretty quick. However, it all comes down to the quality of the ramen. My husband and I ordered the Naruto Ramen and Naruto Miso Ramen. We did not like that ramen broth. For me, it did not have that umami flavor that I am looking for in a ramen. The chashu pork also seems to be boiled/baked. I like my chashu with a bit of a char or grill on it. We were highly disappointed with the hard boiled egg. I believe that ramen should be served with soft-boiled egg. Could be preference but almost all ramen that I've eaten, including what I make at home, is with soft-boiled egg. We also tried the gyoza and crunch roll. Both were also not impressive. Gyoza had very little filling and the crunch roll was one of the smallest rolls I've eaten, but it did taste good. Sadly, I could not extend the recommendation to others, especially with Kami Ramen just a feet away. read more

The service here is not great. It's also not good. The food is just alright. It's nice that they're one of few ramen restaurants open on Sunday in Anchorage. The wait time for food can take a long while. The California roll is very meh. As far as ramen it's as basic as it gets with the broth being closer to the 40¢ noodle packet. It's not very impressive. The eggs were an ordinary hard boiled egg. Really nothing special. The curry is decent. For coming in close to opening time all the sauce, seasoning and salt containers looked pretty low. I think for Anchorage, this is probably the best ramen in town. The broth is super flavorful for both the ramen and the udon. My husband prefers ramen over udon so that's why my first review was 4 stars. The owner is incredibly kind and always gives my daughter a little toy when we stop by. I asked the waitress for her recommendation and one of the customers yelled out tonkostu so that's what I ordered. If a local tells you to order, you order! It was delicious, the soup was light and fresh and savory, it's the only way I can describe it. The pork melted in my mouth, it was that tender and overall it was delicious! Found the place through Yelp, of course. I saw a menu picture that featured Alaskan Halibut broth. I was sad for when I got there it was replaced with shio ramen which was chicken based. I went with the Naruto Ramen which was pork and chicken based with side of gyoza (combo). The gyoza was good but not made the typical way of steaming but fried. My first dining out meal in 2022! They were pretty busy for the dinner rush yesterday. Luckily when we arrived, we were able to snag one of their last available tables. I was sad that they were out of udon though. My daughter and I love their Naruto Udon. But they were still able to use the same broth and just added ramen noodles for us. We decided to share a bowl just incase my daughter wasn't feeling the ramen, and we ordered a California roll add on for $5. The prices on the menu seem to have gone up a dollar, but I guess that's as expected. Everything still tasted great and I'm glad we ended up sharing a bowl because it came with a lot of ramen noodles! This is a 5-Star review for their 'Naruto Ramen' bowl. I don't explore the menu too much because I know there are better Sushi places in town, but I've tried Ramen House and Kami Ramen that are also good, and Whisky & Ramen which is a different level of ingredients and ambiance, but Naruto is my favorite for meeting quality, price, and accessibility, and consistency. My husband and I go here every weekend, and we ADORE this place! The staff is so so friendly, and even remembers our orders and what we get. They even gave us a free dessert one time for offering our table to another party. Seriously, they're so kind. And the food is phenomenal! This is a nice little family run Japanese restaurant in Anchorage. The service is quick and friendly. The food always comes out in a timely manner. It is a clean, and decent sized locations with fun Japanese flair decorating the walls. I am battling with my rating on this review. I would give this location 3.5 stars. If it was just a ramen house I would give it 4 stars, but they do serve other Japanese specialties, and those are the areas I believe they are lacking in. I have dined here twice, and on both occasions ordered the traditional pork broth--tonkatsu ramen. The broth was rich, and flavored well. The ramen portion was huge, and served piping hot. It is very tasty ramen. I really enjoyed the ramen, and recommend you come here to satisfy any ramen craving you may have. My reason for lowering the star rating is because my husband dined with me on one occasion, and ordered outside of the ramen realm. He ordered a spicy tuna sushi roll, seaweed salad, and tuna poke bowls. These items left much to be desired. The fish they served in these items just was not fresh. The seaweed in the seaweed salad had a very pungent fishy flavor. They were edible, but were nothing special at all. I honestly think they should drop these items from their menu, and focus on the ramen and katsu. We also have ordered the gyoza, and takoyaki. Both of these items were ok. The gyoza was different from the traditional Japanese style I am accustom to, but were fairly tasty. The takoyaki I was very excited about, but there was barely any octopus in the balls. They were pretty much just dough balls with sauce. The meal always finished with a complimentary soy custard dessert, which is very good. I was very surprised they provided this complimentary, and thought it was a very nice touch. Overall, I would come to this restaurant strictly for their ramen. They make an excellent ramen house. With the sushi side of things I would definitely stay away from that portion of the menu. read more

I was intrigued by Ramen after watching Ivan Ramen on Chef's Table. I had never realised that Ramen was anything other than 99c dried noodles in a packet when you're poor. And i certainly never expected that we'd have such a thing in Anchorage. But i went to my Chiropracter and saw a place called Ramen House right next door, and looked them up on Yelp. However, a lot of the reviews for Ramen House, claimed that Naruto were better. So, off i trot, to Naruto, after my chiro appointment, pretty much feeling like my jaw was dislocated, and possibly several vertebrae fractured if I'm totally honest, as he had given me a good old beating, if you know what i mean. And it's winter, and i was just hankering for some real Ramen, with the egg in it. The reviews on Yelp regarding Naruto - many people had given high praise to Ramen with Katsu on the side, so i got Ramen Miso, with Chicken Katsu. At this point i will pause for dramatic effect, because I am very bewitched by Japan in general, ever since Ivan Ramen, and some other shows I've watched. I've ordered Japanese snacks off Amazon, and i adore them, and I'd absolutely love to visit. Maybe one day. Well my server, he was an absolute treasure, and i am promoting him to my new favourite server of all the places in Anchorage. Kenji, you are an absolute delight, very pleasant an chatty, and i have to say, i am a talker, and i sat at the bar, so he was forced to endure my non stop blabber, which he did with good grace. He is a very nice young man. So, back to the food. I have longed to try real authentic Ramen for ages now, and I think i had that tonight. The depth of flavour to the broth - just sublime. Ambrosia, so multilayered and flavourful and savoury, just perfect for a cold Anchorage winter evening. Noodles, perfectly cooked, nestled in the bottom, and the perfect array of green onions, mushrooms, corn, Napa cabbage, sprouts, and Nori. And the all important egg. The egg, the gem, that oval jewel, drawing my eye, soaking up that sumptuous broth, and slightly discolouring the white. Oh yum. And my chicken Katsu, i must admit that i don't often order Katsu, but it really did go well with the Ramen, and it was perfectly cooked - you know how easy it is to overlook it. It was delicious, as was its sweet glaze. It was a huge serving, i managed maybe half, as i was alone, my husband was at work. I got a to-go box. So for the amount of food, i think the price was excellent. And then, as if that weren't enough, a delightful little soupçon of dessert is presented - free. A little custard-like, vanilla, almost creme brulee, almost flan, kind of a texture, with a crunchy nutty topping, and a butterscotch drizzle. Just enough to sweeten the palate. Really perfect. So thank you for making my Ramen experience so perfect Naruto, and i will definitely be back for more. read more

I love coming here for a comforting bowl of authentic ramen at a family owned business. I usually get either the Tonkatsu Miso Ramen or Naruto Miso Ramen, add a bit of chili oil and sriracha, yum! We also add on a side of the homemade gyoza and tatsuta age (fried chicken). The chicken comes with a vinegary dipping sauce providing a nice balance. Sometimes they offer a complimentary dessert. I wish I would have updated my review sooner, but I've Ben consumed by ramen bliss. The staff is so nice here. They never make fun of me trying to speak Japanese. Lol. I'm still learning, but they always respond and correct me if need be. Low key, this is where I've been coming before every test. Not just for practice, but superstition. I've never scored below a B- on a test when I come before. The two times I didn't come before my test it was ugly. Pulling a low c for both. Now it's a test day tradition.
