On our last day in the Northwest, my sister and I got to spend some time in Anchorage. Our Uber driver recommended Arctic sushi, so we decided to check it out for dinner. We had Jacob as our server, and he was phenomenal. It wasn't busy on a random Monday night, and he came over and talked to us several times. This place has some incredible sushi rolls to offer and definitely hit the spot. If you're in the Anchorage area, I would highly recommend some Alaskan sushi. AWFUL EXPERIENCE! We arrived around 7:30 pm on a Sunday. The service was ridiculously slow. There was only one waitress working and we could see just one person working in the kitchen. There were three tables that were already occupied and it looked like only one of them had their food. It took about fifteen minutes before the waitress took our order. That was bad enough, but then it took THIRTY-TWO minutes for the food to come out. The Yakisoba noodle soup was SOOOOOO salty! The Tempura Halibut was okay. We were pressed for time as we were in a tour group so we did not want to waste anymore time and send back the Yakisoba. It took several minutes to pay our check. They don't bring the check to your table. Instead, you have to go up the front counter and wait for the same lone waitress to find and calculate your total. The waitress was also trying to take care of a very large take-out order when we were trying to pay and leave. I mentioned the overly salty Yakisoba to the waitress and she had no response. The restaurant is very dark and dingy. The tables and chairs are sticky and there are live and dead flies behind the mini blinds at the windows. We won't be back. read more

When I first pulled up outside I thought the place was closed because it was hella dark. Walked in and asked them if they were open. I wasn't sure because I was the only one here... I can honestly tell you I've been to the Arctic and the sushi place in Barrow had more light than this place. Sat at a high table first and felt short so I moved to a regular one. Immediately noticed the table and the environment felt sticky to my touch and smelled like a burnt kitchen. I ordered the large hot saki, typical hot saki nothing fancy. Wow! That menu.. not very helpful without pictures and those prices for even basic rolls are crazy high! So I stuck to one roll for this visit, the baked salmon roll. Unfortunately it was not as tasty as I expected. Received one pice of ginger with the roll. Not impressive. I've had awesome baked salmon rolls... in other places... you pay your check near the door. Great little place! The Dutch Harbor roll was fantastic. The owner does all of the cooking so it took a little time to get our orders. We weren't in a hurry so didn't mind the wait. Prices are mid range, average roll is $14.00 I started with a Miso soup, it was fine nothing special. The Hawaiian Tuna Poki was delicious. Very fresh tasting, with a nice spicy kick. The Salmon Nirigi was outstanding. Great flavors and super fresh fish. I finished my meal with the Fried Roll Kozebue Roll. A little plain, lacked that wow feeling yet it was tasty. The pros- the sushi was good, albeit pricey- more pricey than the other sushi joints we've been to in Anchorage. The cons- service was atrocious, we only received 3 of the 4 rolls we ordered, never got refills, and had to go to the cash register to pay. Frosty from a day out traversing downtown during the Fur Rondy, we made out way through the throngs on 4th Avenue to one of the best, but most expensive sushi joints in town. I'm not a huge fan of sushi (gasp, I don't do much fish) But since I do know this is some of the best sushi in town,we made our way through the throngs of people to the cute little cabin. Unapologetically Alaskan- Arctic Sushi is a log cabin, with country music, hand carved wood tables, and Japanese sushi chef. This is proof positive once again that Anchorage is undoubtedly a multicultural city. They have a very robust sushi, sashimi and nagiri menu with something for everyone, in addition to Terikayi and a few Korean items as well. I went for the cucumber roll and the vegetable tempura and the kiddo got some kind of magnificent looking sushi that had 3 different kinds of roe on it. It was absolutely gorgeous. My tempura was the most perfectly bettered and cooked tempura I've ever had. I've had a lot of tempura, but this, THIS was perfection. My only qualm with Arctic Sushi as so many others have stated is this place is SOOO expensive. My items were both 8 bucks each for small portions (remember they were veggie only) and they should have been 5.95. The fish sushi items were staggeringly expensive. The only good thing we got from this restaurant was the baked salmon roll. Everything else was inedible. Their miso doesn't taste right at all and their bento boxes... so bad. My husband couldn't tell me if he was eating chicken or not and my halibut came fried (way to ruin a perfectly good fish) with no warning it was fried and when I requested extra sauce they didn't give it and there was hardly enough sauce to cover the horrible flavor of it. I'd never order from here again. Save yourself and go to Sushi-Ya... so much better but not on Uber eats so we ended up with this one. Never again! read more

First sushi joint my wife and I have tried in Anchorage since moving from the lower 48 - the prices were staggering for basic rolls. Almost 10 bucks for a Kappa maki? That roll is just cucumber, typically 4 or 5 bucks at even expensive sushi bars. But, I'll digress from the prices for a reprieve. We ended up with 3 rolls. Our fish of choice for the evening was tuna, and while the tuna flavors we got were good, buttery, and fresh - each roll just had way too much sauce both sweet, creamy, and a little spicy. I know sushi places can sometimes go overboard with sauce on specialty rolls (and the flavors were mostly good) but the spicy tuna roll is a pretty basic concept and didn't need to be lathered in who knows how much sugary sauce. For me it took away from the taste of the actual ingredients. One of the rolls was supposed to have tobiko, couldn't see or taste it - but who knows if it was there or not under the sea of sauce! Back to price, the spicy tuna roll cost the same as the specialty rolls, wasn't stuffed full, didn't have crazy ingredients. Paid 15 bucks for tuna and cucumber lathered under the same two sauces on the other 2 rolls we got. So, pretty expensive and overused sauce made for 3 very different rolls ingredient wise but unfortunately a very similar taste being dominated by mayo and sugary sauces. read more

I have to agree with some of the other lower rated reviews. I had planned to visit the fantastic Thai restaurant near the Caption Cook this trip, however it was closed. I walked around the corner and found "Arctic Sushi". The restaurant was moderately full and had a mixed crowd of 20 something's to retirees. I decided to stay. If I could give this place a zero, I would. First of all, I walked in and stood at the counter for 5 minutes before the woman or man working in the kitchen behind the counter even acknowledged my presence. I was finally seated, and waited another 20 minutes for acknowledgment and an order. I ordered the mixed Tempera and the shrimp fried rice. The food came out surprisingly quickly. The mixed Tempera came out first. It was OK at best, as it tasted as if it had been prepared in "OLD" grease in which everything was fried. The rice followed, and basically was inedible due to the burnt bits of (I am assuming rice) and the over abundance of oil. I commented when the lady came about the rice, but she just stated it came from the pan. The check arrived, full amount. I will say I did tip, but they could have done better and should have adjusted the bill for the inedible rice. One of the worst meals I have ever had in my many trips to Anchorage. This place was so good 10+ years ago. I would eat here sometimes when I worked downtown or had jury duty across the street. The interior is decently sized but it can get really packed during lunch. Most recently we ordered from Arctic Sushi via door-dash. Everything was packaged neatly and securely, and the order arrived on time. The food tasted okay. I wished everything had a bit more flavor. This was a bit of a disaster from just walking in. There was one guy at the register, wiping down tables, seating guests, taking orders (in person & over the phone) -- basically doing everything other than making the food. Poor guy kept apologizing to everyone about anything; you just feel bad for him & he's trying to do his best alone. Everything was so slow: Getting our drinks took 10 mins, ordering our food took 20 mins, getting our food took over 30 mins. We were the only people in after a large group left (a couple people came to pickup online orders, and two people were sat after we ordered). Once we got the rolls (3 rolls total), they were all sloppy and almost every single bite fell apart. The taste was only okay, and certainly does NOT justify the price. We never got small plates to eat over, dipping cups, refills on water, new utensils (the customers that had last used our table left two sets of chopsticks behind, so ew, but also great?), or any check-ins on our dining experience. We didn't want to waste more time for the check, so we left an estimated amount of cash to cover the bill. Shameful to charge this much for such low quality and severely understaffing this restaurant. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, go straight to jail, and do not return. read more

The two P's: Pricing: about $15-17 for most of the specialty rolls Portions: that's all you get... a roll for about $16. I've eaten here twice. Once when I was only "sorta" hungry: and it served me well. Once when I was actually hungry: I ended up going to Sacks café for appetizers afterwards because I was still very very hungry. Even after sinking 16 bones into this place. So, for me this place is either a venue to enjoy a pricey snack. (one roll) Or an expensive meal. I went here for a quick lunch. It was quick but worth the wait. It was packed during lunch but it should be. I ordered shrimp fried rice and my 1st Reindeer hotdog. Very delicious. This place used to be good. Was waited way too long to get our food. My soup looked like the soup you get for $1 at a grocery store but it was $18.95. The mussels had no meat in them. The shrimp was still in the shells. And still had legs. There was a poopy smell in the restaurant. I told them I didn't like the soup and wanted something else and they asked if I wanted it to go. No! The ginger was discolored, dirty plates. And they tried charging me for the soup. I paid for everything but the soup and left, no tip. Never again. I feel sick now. Groupon had a deal so I decided to go ahead and use it. I ordered a pair of scallop sashimi (fish, no rice) and my friend ordered a California roll. It took awhile for our food to come out but I think it was because there were a few to-go orders the needed to be prepared. My scallop sashimi was more like a pair or SMT (scallop, mayo and tobiko with seaweed and rice) I'm not sure if that was what they consider scallop sashimi but I ate it anyways. It was not the freshest tasting and there was too much mayo. My friend liked her California roll. Not too much ambiance but friendly service. We ordered multiple rolls and did not receive one of them until the rest of the group had ate. Anchorage has great sushi restaurants like Sushi Ya and Ronnie's. I've had lunch twice; had sushi, a roll, and chicken teriyaki. The food was very good and normal portions that you would expect. The sole employee (owner?) did quite well at managing the whole process and appropriate considering the times I suspect. He was attentive and friendly. Employees were the best part of this place. It is near the docks where the cruise ships come in. It is pricey so one must be careful not to go out and order everything. They have specials on the door but not on the menu. The waiter told us they were seasonal soo.... We enjoyed a few rolls and soup. A big party came in with us however we were all treated and served at the same time. As were there before we went home from our cruise, not sure we will get a chance to come back.
