The restaurant is attached to the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel so it's easy to find. It has a view of the largest seaplane base in Alaska. It's incredible to watch them take off and land right in front of you. The inside is very much like a ski lodge vibe and homey! Our server was Mathias who was incredibly kind and helpful. Such a stark difference from where we lived previously in Hawaii. We ordered the halibut and chips and the Denali dip. The halibut was crunchy and very good with the spicy aioli it came with. The Denali dip was good but it came with BBQ sauce instead of au jus which would have been preferred. read more

We have eaten here numerous times over the past four years. The Fancy Moose lounge is part of the hotel we stay at when we visit Anchorage. The atmosphere of the hotel and restaurant is great. Big timbers and rustic. Eating outside is great experience. You get to watch planes taking off and landing in Lake Hood. The food is hit-or-miss. The salmon is okay but nothing special. The nachos are disappointing. The kitchen must have heated the chips in an oven because the edges were burnt. We have experienced excellent wait staff as well as unfocused waitstaff over the years. In short, the service, like the food is hit-or-miss. If you need a place to eat, I would say that the Fancy Moose Lounge is great in terms of location (definitely 5 stars)(viewing the airplanes) but is okay in a pinch when it comes to the food (3 stars). read more

I was staying at the hotel where Fancy Moose is located and wanted a quick bite to eat after flying into Anchorage. The place was chaotic and I finally clued in that I should seat myself. It took a while for me to get menu and water. I was able to quickly order a draft beer and a sandwich. I got the food pretty quickly, but the beer didn't arrive. Ate my food, didn't see my waiter for quite a while, and pretty much assumed that my beer was a no show by the end of my meal, when my waiter came by and realized I hadn't gotten the beer. To his credit he got it immediately and remembered what I'd ordered but I was done eating by then. After enjoying my beer as dessert, I waited a long while to flag down my waiter for the bill. He was apologetic for the wait. He then brought me my bill without asking whether I wanted to make it a room charge (this I thought would be a standard question in a hotel) so I then had to wait some more. The staff was pleasant, the food was fine and the beer was actually a good local draft--the whole thing however took about twice as long as it should in a hotel restaurant serving standard hotel food. read more

You can't go to Anchorage without stopping in at the Fancy Moose( among the several names it has had since I started annual fishing trips & numerous business trips before retirement, for a really cold beer and their amazing Halibut & Chips! It's worth the trip and while I have never eaten any other entree in my 25 or so times there, I can say the selection of beer is first rate and the Halibut outstanding! read more

Patio seating in the bar is great for watch the float planes landing and taking off. This is why we were there. Service is a little slow but honestly once service is open the patio is full. The servers weren't the friendliest either. So the stars are for atmosphere. We ordered a couple of appetizers and drinks for an hour of entertainment. The food was surprisingly good. Watching the planes was fun. As stated in all of the other reviews, the service is slow. They had 3 wait staff serving The Deck and the inside of the Fancy Moose looking over the deck. They were all working very hard. My son was impressed by the sweet and sour halibut, I enjoyed the the Denali dip, and my wife enjoyed her rueben. The fries were crispy and hot. Been here 30 times over 7 years. Wait time is often longer than most places. Seems they never have enough help. The food is good, had a large sampling of menu options. No complaints there. Price is in line. View of lake Hood is awesome. Love watching the planes making water landings. Very convenient to stay here when flying out. Airport shuttle runs every thirty minutes. My only complaint is wait times. You can easily sit at the bar 5-10 minutes while bar tender runs back and forth while never being acknowledged as was the case today. 10 minutes before I had to just yell that I wanted a menu and a beer. The hotel lobby decor is great with kids bc of all the taxidermy. Food was decent, a little overpriced. We got reindeer sausage which tasted good, not great though. There were parts of the beer battered fish that was not fried all the way. The fish would've been better without the batter. The service took FOREVER. There was one server (I think Nicola?) who acknowledged the long wait for the food and informed us they were down a chef. But there was another flustered female waitress who walked passed us many times without offering to take our order. We waited for about an hour to get our food. I felt bad for the table behind us. They were there before us, and they got their order taken about 20 minutes after us. The only good thing about this place is the view to watch the sea planes. There seemed to be more server traffic in the patio, so maybe that's where you should sit to get served food. It was an interesting experience for sure. Maybe I went on a bad day? Maybe not. I love this place.... been coming to Anchorage on business several times a year for the last 16 years.... sure it's changed names during that time - but the current Fancy Moose Lounge is wonderful for folks passing through, whether you're staying in the hotel or not (the hotel is actually my standard when staying in Anchorage). The views of Lake Hood are amazing - with the zillions of float planes coming and going at all times of the day... during the warm months, the deck is a great place to have dinner. But in the winter, stay in the bar and enjoy the atmosphere! Today, while in town on business, I had the "Beef Street Tacos" - wonderful!! Great food, great service, all you could ask. The service was slow. The food is overpriced. The menu is not very appealing overall. The worst old fashion I have ever had. The drink itself was half pulp from an orange. I got the Alaskan salmon which was not to shabby with the sauce on top but the wild rice was undercooked and so were the seamed vegetables. The meal tasted like something I would eat from the Galley which I would be more than happy to pay $5 for but not the $40 that they are charging. Overall I hope that they add more servers to help the waiting times and reconstruct their menu to fit the premium prices. read more

The worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. Had to get my own drinks from the bar b/c we couldn't find our waiter. Waited 55 minutes for a cheeseburger. Tables all around us arrived at the similar time and where gone before we got our food. The nachos someone in our party was served looked like it had spent 45 minutes under the heating lights. Check took 15 minutes. Completely unacceptable. Also, the printed on the check they gave us 40% off, but it was only 25%. read more

The food was pretty good but the service was underwhelming. To the servers defense the place was severely understaffed however the staff could use some training on how to be a food server. Meh. The location and view is wonderful. The service is okay, seems they are over worked and understaffed sort of thing which is all of Alaska so that is forgivable. But for a nicer-ish restaurant we had to clean our own table, grab our own silverware, etc.. In all the food was fine. Tried the crab stuffed halibut, (most expensive item on the menu) and is was ridiculously dissatisfying, esp for the price as it was undercooked and tasted as if it was previously cooked, then microwaved and covered with a tasteless sauce and imitation crab meat. The bisque is beyond amazing and am told that by our amazing waiter that the clam chowder is also to die for even if you don't care for clam chowder. Nice menu with a broad selection. I had the seafood cobb salad which was massive and very fresh. Crab, shrimp, avocado, bacon, eggs, etc. The soup was great, too. Shrimp Tomato bisque. Very hearty. The view from the deck is a sea plane spotter's dream. Really great. read more

I've been to this bar several times, usually to visit with family and friends before catching a flight out of Anchorage. However, yesterday evening three of us had a wonderful time, enjoying pitchers of beer, chicken wings, calamari, and even chicken tacos. We loved the great personal table service of a young Serbian woman; she really made our time fun! One member of our group remembered that I would have a birthday this week, so they asked the lounge to present me with a blueberry cheesecake with a candle ... but, No singing! lol It was a great time for all! read more

The food and beer were excellent, the decor nice, and walking distance from our hotel. As noted in other reviews the service was friendly but sub-par - they got my order wrong but replaced it when told of the error and it took 15 minutes for our desert. The dining experiences during our Alaska trip have not been great except this one. We went to this restaurant on 7/3/23 for dinner. My blackened shrimps tastes tender and flavorful. My husband's halibut nuggets are better and the fries are the best so far. The view to the lake where the watercraft takes off and lands enhanced the experience. read more

Came here for drinks & dinner while staying at Lakeside Hotel. House salad ($12) with blue cheese was very fresh (large was enough for 2 to share. Calamari was tender & plenty for 2. Halibut fish & chip was delicious! This dish is plenty for 2 ... they offer 5 small pieces of fresh fried halibut w fries & coleslaw ($25) the batter is light & has no grease or oily finish. Their beer offerings are plentiful & liquor is priced fairly. Service was good & you cant beat the view of Lake Hood. read more
