I ate here two times when I was in AK. I had the Philly Cheesesteak for lunch. It was really wet from the meat, but was somehow 90% bread. Not a fan. The tomato basil bisque was delightful. Hot and flavorful. I would definitely recommend, especially once it gets cold. Everything was way more expensive than it should have been. They price gouge us tourists. The female servers were really unpleasant, but there was a male waiter who was awesome. If you are crazy hungry and don't want to venture out of the hotel it's fine as a stand by, but there are definitely better places to eat in the area. read more

I usually come here twice a year. Usually before I drop someone off at the airport or if I just want to go somewhere different for a beer. The interior is clean, slightly dark, with the bar being the main noticible seating area, I think because of all the lights around it. There is a menu with apps and entrees, though I have only ever ordered nachos, and those are barely edible. Beers are around $5, which range from schwag to Alaskan Microbrew. I've always had decent service, but I can sympathize with the other reviewers; some people just don't care. All in all this place is nice to come to for a drink, change of pace, and when you just want to be incognito and blend in with tourists. read more

After I could not find it on the menu, I asked our server about it and he said that yes, it was HIS lasagna recipe but it had been taken off of the menu. This made me sad. WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER If given the option to choose zero stars, I'd jump on it. As a local resident for 27 years, I have never been so appalled at the lack of service and courtesy at a restaurant/hotel that prides itself on customer satisfaction. I was with four friends for dinner around 9 pm. Beyond being ignored unless we flagged out server down, two of my friends had ordered an item off the menu which the kitchen was out of, but this wasn't mentioned until the other two in our party received our meals. With half of us eating at this point, we asked for a quick substitute. This request ended up with us having to speak to the shift supervisor who was condescending, unaccommodating, and snide. The Millenium Hotel deck is most likely the most tranquil setting in Alaska, yet completely abashed by the treatment from their staff. My party left so disconcerted, not only will we never return, we are spreading the word. read more

We entered the wrong way but due to the lost looks on our faces we were greeted by a passing waiter who cleaned off a table just to give us a seat by the window, despite there being clean tables nearby. When we seated ourselves, a waitress came by to clear a table next to us so we promptly asked her for menus. Her customer service was straight and to the point. No over the top interest in our day, no fake smile in an attempt to pretend that this was anything more than her day job. I can appreciate that, since I didn't care to ask her how her day was going either. We ordered the crab/lobster mac and cheese and the seafood tacos. The food came in a timely manner, though I was sad to see just two tacos on my plate accompanied with chips, avocado paste that some call guac, and salsa (see picture). It was delectable, and I wasn't disappointed. It even filled me up, because the tacos were filled with fried fish, crab meat and shrimp, all seasoned differently yet they complimented each other in a way that you can still appreciate each flavor. My only complaint was that the tortilla had a staleness to it once it was cold. The mac and cheese had generous chunks of lobster and Alaskan crab meat, but certainly not worth the $29. Maybe the $22 I spent on the tacos. Or maybe I'm incredibly cheap. They had a wide range of beers on tap, and the atmosphere wasn't bad beside the usual old people staring at everyone. Not to mention the view of the lake, all in all good vibes. In a place like this, you'll have to choose what you order carefully. Otherwise it'd be as mediocre as the next. I really wanted this place to be as excellent as its view, but there were a lot of shortfalls. No one seated us, so we meandered outside to the deck where plenty of people were already dining. We waited about 15 minutes before a waitress came by, and about a half hour to get the meal we ordered. A BLT and a burger shouldn't take that long. Beers were given to the incorrect person... the list goes on. *sigh* It's standard pub food with Alaskan ingredients thrown into the entrees, but its a little overpriced too. 3.9 stars. We created a winter vacation around the 2012 Iditarod. So it makes total sense that we should visit the official headquarters of the The Last Great Race on Earth, the Millenium Hotel. Being across the street from the Marriott Courtyard, where we were staying, and knowing they have a decent bar, it was a no brainer coming here. What? Beer? There already! Bar's ambiance is old school, quite large and very comfy (4 stars). They have a very decent selection of scotch and whiskey and a nice selection of Alaskan Brewing Company's beers (4 stars). We actually got talking with the bartender of the day, "Capt. America". OMG! What an amazing character that shared his adventures (laced with pakalolo) of being stationed in Hawaii in the 70's. Damn, what a small world! This after talking with the Iditarod gift shop lady who lived in Mililani for seven years and put two of her children through Iolani School. WTF?! Not the last Alaska-Hawaii connection mind you. Service: 5 stars! We ordered food on another occasion: The Reuben sandwich that came with huge cut & battered onion rings; just okay (2.5 stars), nothing to write home about it (yet I'm writing). Clearly the best part of this bar is the view of the sea planes taking off and landing, the old school feel with taxidermy-galore in the hotel lobby and the characters, both sides of the bar, where priceless stories are shared fresh daily. Slightly overpriced but they sort of have a monopoly on incredible lake front views! The deck is absolutely gorgeous! Its worth it to go just for that. You get to watch planes landing and taking off from the water and you can see the planes from the airport as well. You can watch the sunset as well, if you are willing to deal with the mosquitoes (They are bigger than I could ever have imagined.. Welcome to Alaska!). If you don't want to deal with the mosquitoes or the cold, the inside has a wonderful view as well, but its harder to see. There are a lot of dead things on the wall. I think most, if not all, of them were older than I am. They have a pretty big selection of local beers, which was nice. They still have all of the classic 'domestic' beers as well, just in case. I tried most of their cocktails and they were all really sweet. Not terrible, but they were all overly sweet. For 'award winning' I would have expected better.. or at very least more of a selection of spirits. There were four vodka drinks (Three sweet, one savory bloodymary spin off) and some kind of specialty margarita. Unique? They also don't list ingredients under any of them, so they all remain kind of a mystery. At least most of the names hint at what they are. 'Love potion #907' gives you no information at all, but was as sweet as I thought it would be. Its vodka and peach schnapps or something. I only had the hummus off of the happy hour menu. It wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't order it again if I ever found myself at that place again. It came with a lot of vegetables, which I love, but the hummus portion for an originally $16 plate (It was half off for happy hour, so it wasn't THAT bad) seemed a bit ridiculous, even for a restaurant in a hotel. It did not come as described on the menu, there was not feta on it. My server offered to get me some, but I didn't really need it. She was really sweet and definitely made me laugh. I was dining by myself and she offered to move me to a table closer to two guys. It was funny. As far as actual service went, she was always on top of my drinks and water and seemed to always be there if I needed anything. I believe her name was Julie. Overall, I think this place is worth it for the atmosphere and the view. If you like beer, this place seems like it would be a good hang out. They were reasonably priced and there was a very large selection. Its always a huge plus when they carry local too. Someone recommended the shrimp tacos, but I didn't try them. The Fancy Moose Lounge is located right on Lake Hood. This restaurant has got a magnificent view. You can see the beautiful Lake through the huge windows. The service was very good, the servers were attentive. Their food has enormous portions.The specialty drinks are pretty nice as well. The Fancy Moose, ah yes. The ambiance is second to none and a great view of the lake. I ordered an amazing sockeye sandwich that came with fries. The food came out luke warm. The fries were your typical flavor with a lack of flare. I am not sure my fries were ever warmed up properly. The sandwich had some great flavor; however, it would have been nice to receive a hot sandwich. It is amazing how a hot sandwich with an amazing aioli sauce turns bland and uneventful when served almost cold. The service, yes, let's discuss the service. I will say, service is a make or break for me. My server didn't refill my water, I had to ask for my check, and he didn't bring my mustard. The expo supports the servers by bringing out meals. When I talked to the expo I requested mustard and she said she would return with mustard. No return at all, but she did come back out and give the guy next to me his soup. This place has potential. I came here based on recommendation of the Courtyard Marriott front desk staff. The views were excellent as the weather was perfect! 2 stars for the view! The food was just average bar food. I ordered the French dip with fries. Just ok... The sandwich was average but with bland au jus. The fries were tasteless and mushy/limp! I was ok with the food as I was in a hotel and had a nice view. The service, however, was atrocious! I waited 10 minutes to get a menu. I ordered and the food came almost instantly... Just means it was under a warmer! I asked for water when I ordered and got it as I finished my meal. I wanted ketchup but could not get the attention of any server... So I got up and got it from the bar. No attention at all from the server... I felt invisible most of the time, until he brought the check! I'll be in Anchorage twice monthly for the next 6 months for a project I have... Sadly I won't be back to this place! read more

I ate at the Moose 3 times while I was staying here for a conference. We had difficulties of some sort every time we ate here -- server forgetting to place our breakfast order, waiting over 45 minutes to get food, some not so tasty food, not being given the utensils needed to eat our meal, etc. Some positives about this place - nice view of the lake, outdoor seating, good halibut sandwiches. Situated right on Lake Hood, with its enormous picture windows facing the lake, the Fancy Moose must have a beautiful view in the summertime. However, when we came here, it was the second of January... therefore, there was no lake, just a vast expanse of snow. Still beautiful, of course, but those enormous picture windows also made the restaurant quite chilly. The four of us did not take our coats off the entire time, and had to move to a table in the middle of the room to find some warmth. The fireplaces were either not working, or were not allowed to be turned on. The waiter was very friendly and attentive - but then, we WERE the only people in the restaurant. My father's lady-friend asked for coffee, and the waiter asked, "would you like some Bailey's in that coffee?" Of COURSE she did! How did he know? I am a fool for all things smoked salmon, and so their smoked salmon scramble breakfast was like a magical dream come true. A concoction of egg, smoked salmon, cream cheese and sour cream... even if everything else about the restaurant was awful, I would have to give kudos for that alone. The potatoes that came with the scramble were flavorful, crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. Yum yum yum! Everyone else seemed pleased with their food, as well. This restaurant is located in the Millennium/Lakefront Hotel... It boasts a rustic Alaskan feel, with beautiful views of the lakefront. In the summer, you can dine out in the large wooden deck. From inside you can see the sea planes taking off and landing. The style of food is American, with lots of local influences. Not being a fan of seafood, I decided to order the chicken wrap (also available in tuna & humous) with a side fruit salad. The portion was large, but I'm not sure that the side fruit salad worked (not really creative) with the wrap (just a personal preference... And the server said I could sub with fries). The servers were attentive (my friend and I were one of the few people dining at this time) and friendly. Other reviews complained about the prices being too high, but I found them to be on par with other hotel restaurants. Being a guest at the Millennium, it's a nice convenient and comfortable dinner... We ate outside on the deck which is connected to the hotel, bar and restaurant. Everything was perfect! Weather, service, atmosphere, drinks and food. There were 5 of us and service was friendly & prompt. The menu had selections of interest to us all. Our drinks were also creative and tasty. We had the prime rib sandwich, fries, wedge salad, rubin sandwich and bacon burger. Not one item was any less than A+. We were so glad we stopped by for the perfect lunch with the entertaining float planes coming and going. read more

This year might have been your last chance to impress - every year during Iditarod there are hundreds of guests from all over the world and locals that like to hang out and experience the flavor of Iditarod up close and personal - but you never up the staffing. Yesterday we had a party of 12 w/ a waiter from catering that has NO clue how to take drink orders, what was drink specials were, nor what was on the menu. Then to top it off only one bartender - we were there in the middle of the afternoon and left as soon as we could and moved to a bar that appreciated our business. This was my very first meal on my first trip to Anchorage. It was neat to see the float planes taking off and landing on the ice while eating. Live music also made dinner enjoyable. Honestly, as a local resident who has watched this hotel switch hands and try to reinvent itself several times over the years, I'm baffled as to how it's still in business. My only guesses are that it's because of the outdoor deck, proximity to the airport and that tourists are suckers. They charge highway robbery prices for crap food, the servers are hit and miss (mostly miss) and the only thing consistent about their drinks is that they're watered down and nasty. Seriously...$18-20 for a BURGER that doesn't even come with all the fixings?! Are you kidding me? Do yourself a favor and go to some other establishment. read more

AVOID at all cost!! Ordered the Cajun halibut tacos, first order had one TINY piece of what I assume was sort of sewer fish definitely NOT halibut, tortillas must have been taken out of the refrigerator and blown on to warm. Sent the first order back. Round two came with two TINY pieces of the same sewer fish slightly warmer on a half pound bed of the Pico de gallo wrapped with again, refrigerated tortillas. Manager came to the table explaining that the "halibut" is pre portioned and basically you get what you get. I told her I did not want them to make another she said "okay" and stormed off. Not one I apologize do you want a refund or can I get you something else. I received the check paid and left. Patron beware!!
