Did a lunch pickup. I haven been in many years. It's not as good as I remember. I got the super combo with pulehu chicken and kalbi, no macaroni salad. The chicken was tender but not super flavorful. The kalbi was just fine but nothing to write home about. It may be because I haven been eating quite a bit of Korean food lately. The kalbi I've had elsewhere is just better. I didn't get the macaroni salad because I didn't care for it when I've eaten here before. I actually prefer L&L macaroni salad. The portion size was good for the price though. read more

This place is in a very sketchy area. We were passing through here and decided to go into eat about an hour or so before they closed. Unfortunately, for some reason, they had chairs set up and wouldn't allow anybody to eat in. This meant that we had to order and then try to eat it in our car. We ordered the chicken, teriyaki beef and the pulled pork. The polled pork was hands down the favorite, but it was also a little bland. The chicken and beef were a little dry. They do give you very generous portion sizes. The lady asked me if I wanted extrateriyaki sauce and I told her now. Looking back, I should have said yes, because I didn't realize it.Didn't come with any teriyaki sauce. I think the extra teriyaki sauce would have definitely helped the meal. read more

Hi, my boyfriend and I got the kalua pig combo plates with Mac salad and spike poke medium size. Very disappointed with the ahi poke. There was no flavor, it tasted watered down, and the texture of the fish was very mushy.... the sad part is that I'm from the islands and this was a serious disappointment. No love or better yet, no flavor at all. It tasted as if it was thawed last minute, not marinated and just prepped in a bunch of sauce with no seasoning. Well it has been a very long time since I came yo sit down and eat. Seems a lot cleaner then I remember which is great. Was able to sit down and as soon as I sat down someone came and took my order which was very quick. The service was amazing and quick. The food was good as well, huge portions for sure. Had the mix plate with the chicken katsu and the pork. I am so Glad that the pork was not dry, this had the perfect juicy flavor to it. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly, nice and crispy but not dry. I wish the Mac salad and the rice were a little bit better. The rice was mushy and the Mac salad could use a bit more seasoning, and the noodle was a bit more al dente than I would like. Overall great service and great food for sure. Will be coming back a little bit more often. read more

My Son always spoke highly of Hula Hands as being one of the best places to eat in Alaska while assigned to the 25th Airborne JBER (Ft. Richardson side). Its where he and his soldier buddies would frequent on paydays. He was right about the large portions and delicious authentic Hawaiin dishes. Bool Galbi (korean BBQ shortribs aka Kalbi) tasted fire grilled, and large poke is not only delicious but also huge more than enough for the three of us. By the way, my wife never eats sashimi yet alone poke but on this day she got caught the bug and was partkaking in the poke. The Galbi too was delicious and although I would have carmelized the shortribs a bit more, it was delicious nontheless. It even serves Laulau lol. Meals are served with sidedishes typical of plate lunches you'd get on Oahu or Big Island in Hawaii. In terns of environment, Hula Hands has the feel of a restaurant off the beaten path, where it is msinly frequented by locals, a so called "Hole in the wall" where one must try while visiting because the food is like a delicous home cooked meal cooked by granny, and served in large portions. In fact, during our meal, we were reminded of long gone Bernie's Teriyaki Chicken in Los Angeles, and Chun Oaks in Newport News, Va ( the latter is where i and my soldier buddies would go back in the 80's) Had i been stationed in Alaska, I too would have frequented Hula with my soldier buddies. I hope Hula remains in busines for a long time our next visit to Alaska. If you like authentic Hawain dishes and are in Alaska, definitely visit Hula Hands-Friendly. read more

In the winter, this restaurant is FREEZING! I am not exaggerating. It is literally freezing! I know the difference between literal and figurative and I literally mean literal! Decided to try something new -- and totally disappointed. The Large Saimin was basically a splash of broth to make a large cup of noodles not stick to themselves. As seen... I had 1 strip of a sweet pork in there. Not like the creations I have seen online. In addition, place didn't open on time due to being short staffed... so I was more than hungry... which tells you if someone who is starving isn't thrilled, it's not worth getting. But be prepared, the chicken comes with this yummy sauce (aka yummy oil) that leaked out of the box, thankful for the bag, but it also does solidify after cooled sooo I had a salad the next day to (attempt to...) combat that. So today I went in to get my usual, chicken Katsu. Normally it's pretty good food. However today's just wasn't all that good. When I bit into my first piece of chicken, it had the consistency of cartilage. I brushed it off, and worked on my little macaroni side. I dug into the rice and again, normally it's good quality but I stuck my fork in the rice and the whole scoop came with it. It was so gummy it could be used for mochi. But I'm sure it was still too gummy even to do that. I wrote that off and figured I'll just work on the chicken by itself. I ate two more pieces and that second bite I spat out because it was like biting into cartilage. Between the nasty rice and the weird textured chicken I just couldn't finish the food. To sum it up- I ate 3 slices of their chicken and I couldn't touch the rice. I went to the gas station for their spam masubi because I did not eat at this location. read more

My experience at this Hula Hands was about the same as the other location: excellent customer service, average food. I came here with my mom for lunch. The food arrived very quickly after we ordered. We were in and out in about half an hour. The staff were warm and hospitable. We both ordered a combo with pulehu chicken and kalua pig, which comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad (or vice versa). I enjoyed the chicken the most as I found it to be the most flavorful part of my meal. The pork was tender and juicy, albeit a bit bland, so I added some kind of sriracha sauce that was on the table. Macaroni salad was also a bit bland but not bad. The portions here are huge so you definitely gets your money's worth. You can easily get more than one meal out of the lunch menu, which averages $10-12. I probably won't have to cook for the next few days with how much food I took home. Really good deal. The furniture and decor could use some upgrades, but the Hawaiian music in the background made the atmosphere more relaxing. Nice place overall, and I would come here again the next time I get a hankering for Hawaiian BBQ and want a whole lot of it. read more
