Saw this new spot at the mall and was intrigued. At first it looked like Chinese food, but after taking a closer look it was actually Peruvian. The lady working there explained that it's Chinese Peruvian fusion called Chifa, since Peru has a large Chinese community. They were nice enough to offer some samples so I decided to give it a try. I ended up getting fried rice, veggies, Peruvian orange chicken, and the lomo saltado beef. Overall the food quality was decent. The lomo saltado had a lot of onions and the beef was a bit tough though. Flavor wise it reminded me a bit of something like Panda Express level, nothing amazing but still good enough to eat. One thing that kinda surprised me was I asked for a soda refill and they said no, which felt a little weird since soda is probably the cheapest thing to refill. Anyways it was interesting to try something new. I might give it another shot sometime but for now it was just okay for me.

Ugh I wish this place was really good but it was just okay. It was an awesome concept cuz I don't know any place that has fast food peruvian or in a food court. The lomo saltado was popular but it wasn't even good. It was really plain and didn't really capture the taste of what it's supposed to taste like. I really liked their orange chicken here but it's not even peruvian though. The rice and noodles were good, the noodles were different and very light. Other than that, this place was just ok and wouldn't go back again.

The good: Conveniently located at the Santa Anita mall food court. Easy to view menu board with pictures. Helpful employee to explain the food items for first time Peruvian food tryers. The bad: a bit pricey with combos ranging from $13.80 to $14.99. I ordered the Lomo Saltado con Tallarin Verde, which is basically steak and veggies with green noodles. Steak was cooked okay but portion size had me eating more onions and tomatoes than actual steak. The noodles were a bit bland with the green sauce. I've had better lomo saltado at hole in the wall Peruvian restaurants around LA.

14.99 then $16.56 after tax. Definitely not worth it and I will stick to my fav Peruvian spot Mr.Pollo. 1 the service was not friendly whatsoever. The lady behind the counter looked up at us then kept packing the past order then finally helped us and she asked what I wanted and then I responded the number six please and she replies in Spanish and says "so the number six" and I responded in Spanish and then she looks me up and down and just says "pay there" and I am so shocked because? Incredibly rude The food is very dry, no flavor. Fries were dull and plain and the rice portion was way too much to balance it. And the meat and onion was very flavorless. I am very disappointed because I was expecting it the way I have Lomo Saltado anywhere else but it disappointed me I think respectfully by far I would truthfully rate this as the last place to consider peruvian food. You get plantains 2x , a 1/4 portion of plain fries, sunny side up egg 1x, 1/3 portion of meat.. I had about 4 pieces of beef... and a bed of rice and one aji verde small sauce container. The chicha morada drink is also incredibly sugary, you can hardly taste dominant flavors.. the cinnamon, lime, and pineapple. I would compare it to a popsicle stick.. plain sugary .

    Generous portions!

Food is flavorful and tasty! Really adds to the variety of food offerings in the mall. Staff is friendly and will let you sample the food. I have gone frequently and have not been disappointed. Give it a try!

Okay place to try. The staff was very nice and will give you samples. The food was just okay. The dishes tasted very sweet but nothing special. The fried wonton was overcooked, it hurt my mouth to eat it. Price is comparable to other fast food places.

Skip the next 3 long paragraphs if you want to get to the food and not the mindset before the food. Played grass volleyball for several hours and then went to the gym after in the mall. Was wandering around the mall, then was sold some shoe cleaning products from a Latino salesman who shined my shoes for free. Very nice and funny guy, and I was like sure I'll spend. So why does this irrelevant info matter you may ask? I was hungry and I was questioning my life choices, this is the frame of reference. So then I quickly scanned the food court and immediately ran into "Tataypa," and since it looked new I was willing to give it a go. I asked for four different samples, the lady was super nice, food was good enough but was I hungry or did it taste good? I always question this. Food just taste better when you're extra hungry. While in line, I asked the lady about the name "Tataypa," and she told me it means grandma (tata) and (y) dad (pa)." I told her "tatay" means dad in Tagalog and pa is also dad, so in the Filipino language, it's dad dad lol. So now that you read my journal entry. Let's dive into the food. I got a 2 entree/2 side plate with a drink for around $16.23. I ordered Tusan Chicken, Beef Lomo Saltado, Fries, and Chiufa Rice, and the Chicha Morada. So the flavors are very Asian (Chinese) and the feels are very Panda Express. Panda is a staple fast food, maybe I was expecting some other notes, and maybe it was achieved with that side sauce of Aji Verde. It was the bright Latin flavor I needed to cut some of the sweetness of the Tusan chicken. That Aji Verde sauce is delicious, it reminds me of the Herdez Guacamole salsa. The Tusan Chicken was alright, it was very reminiscent of sweet and sour chicken, even had pineapples in it, and sweet. Maybe overly sweet? Personally it's not a contender for orange chicken. Not sure I just kept dipping it back into the Aji Verde sauce. Next the Beef Lomo Saltado reminded me of two things. First, the French Style Beef plates you get at Chinese restaurants, usually that's filet mignon, I'm not sure what cut they used, probably a chuck? Onions do have a kick in this and aren't fully carmelized, there might have been some other things but yeah beef and onions. But at some point, it reminded me of my grandma's beefsteak dish (Filipino bistek), beef/onions, marinated in a citrus. And that's when a tear was close to falling when I remembered my brother saying that "he missed my grandma's food, and it was always a slice of heaven." Bam dipped it in some aji verde and it was even more magical. The fries are fries, good enough, maybe prefer crispier cause the sauces make them soggy but good enough, on par with Wingstop minus the seasoning I suppose. The Chiufa Rice, it's fried rice but for me, it's a little strong with the five spice. I tasted it and I was like, oh man lol I had just used five spice not too long ago and yep I wasn't too thrilled. The Chicha Morada, alright this drink was delicious. Purple corn drink, I was expecting something corny like the review I just did but it was surprisingly tart and fruity. I loved it, this might be a contender for jamaica, it was so many bright notes. I really enjoyed this out of all the things. To summarize, the service was great, the food wasn't to die for but it was alright if you're hungry enough. But if you want to wrap your brain between Asian and Latino food, bouncing between two cultures, you can achieve that by trying the entrees and continuously dipping it in the aji verde sauce. The aji verde and the chicha morada, those were the stars. It definitely makes me want to explore more Peruvian restaurants though. I was gonna give them a 3 but decided that those fusion things really get dips of nostalgia across a whole lifetime.

It's unfortunate to come to a place like this... Our Peruvian food is not meant to be treated like fast food!!! I would definitely never come back to eat here again. Let me explain -- to start, you order your food and it comes with a drink, which is chicha morada. We ordered tallarín verde, chaufa, and a passion fruit juice. When my food arrived, I tried the chicha and it was awful... it had way too much clove, and the flavor tasted like bubble gum instead of chicha. I asked the server if she could please replace both of my drinks because the taste was not right, and she told me, "Sorry, but I have to charge you for them." Very rude, no kindness at all -- she had a straight face the whole time, not even a smile. I told her, "Don't worry, I'll pay for them." (Maybe that's why the place is empty.) The tallarín verde lacked salt... the meat was thin, small, and tasted like vinegar. The rice wasn't properly cooked -- not fluffy at all. The pollo chijaukay tasted like orange chicken with a sweet sauce. You know what saved the meal? The green ají -- they only gave me one per order -- and the passion fruit drink was good. Terrible food... awful service... and the atmosphere... it's located inside the Santa Anita mall.

Tried this new Peruvian fast casual place at the mall. It's set up like a Panda Express. Multiple entree choices and rice/fried rice/noodles as sides. I tried the Lomo Saltado and Tipakay Chicken. The lomo saltado had great flavor but was on the saltier side. The Tipakay chicken reminded me of orange chicken in the flavor profile and the batter around the pieces of chicken. I was offered samples of other entrees which I enjoyed - Tuscan chicken and Mandarin chicken. I would go back again cause the food tasted great and is well priced for the large portion you get.

I had just finished watching a movie and was a bit hungry so I decided to stroll around the food court. The japanese place was closed so I decide to try this Peruvian joint. I agree with other reviews here, at first it did remind me of panda express but hey it's a food court. On this day I tried some chicken with brown rice, green beans and red chiles. I can't remember the name. Anyway it was good and the price was pretty reasonable. The woman behind the counter was very nice and gave me samples before making my decision. She did give me a sample of the pollo saltado, that was yummy. On my next visit, I will definitely try that dish. I am a fan and will eat here again if i'm ever in the mall and craving Peruvian.

Toast receipt for my order on 3/1/2026.

Good food and a good price for how much you get. I got lomo saltado with arroz chaufa, and chicha morada! I see a lot of complaining that it's "more Chinese, not Peruvian"... but Tataypa is very upfront with saying that it's Chifa -- that is, it's Cantonese-Peruvian. Chifa is an established type of Peruvian cuisine that's existed for more than a century; this restaurant didn't just make it up. So don't come expecting standard Peruvian food! Now that that's out of the way... give it a try!

Tonight we decided to switch things up a little, and hubby ordered the bacon cheeseburger. Normally we prefer the quarter-pound patty, but this one was slightly thicker, which definitely made us feel full a lot quicker. That said, the burger was still super juicy, had the right filling-to-meat ratio, and came on that perfectly soft bun that holds everything together without falling apart. Solid choice. I stuck with my usual chicken breast salad, and it was delicious as always. Fresh, satisfying, and dependable -- although I'll admit I'm still not a fan of bell peppers, so those got politely pushed to the side. One thing I have noticed over time is that the fries seem to be getting a little smaller in portion each visit. I also miss the thicker-cut fries from about six months ago -- those were my favorite. The current ones still do the job, but the old style definitely had my heart. Overall, this is still a definite must-try spot if you're craving a good burger. Consistent, satisfying, and always hits the spot. Happy eats!

Soonheene actually started in Seoul's famous Gwangjang Market where they were known for their pancakes, so I was excited to check it out. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Esther (the owner) and her daughter. They both went out of their way to explain the menu and answer all my questions with genuine smiles. That kind of hospitality really sets the tone for a meal. We ordered the Pork Mungbean Pancake, Rose Tteokbokki (creamy rice cakes with fish cake and sausage), Bibim-Naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles), and a whole fried chicken split into two flavors. Everything we ordered was delicious and tasty. For half the chicken, I went with the original but added green onion and their special oriental sauce drizzle. The other half was spicy soy garlic. I'll admit, I liked the original better. I second-guessed myself when the owner's daughter mentioned soy garlic was their number one most popular flavor followed by honey butter, but I thought I would be different and try the spicy version. The spice kind of drowned out that garlicky soy flavor, so lesson learned. Next time I am going straight for the soy garlic and honey butter combo. For drinks, we tried the Korean coffee and cold yuzu drink, both refreshing and a nice complement to the food. By the end of the meal, everything was so good that I even found myself asking about catering their chicken for future events. The vibe inside is really comfortable with soft K-pop playing in the background. It is just enough for atmosphere but not too loud, so you can talk easily. The only tricky part is parking since it is in a busy plaza with a lot of other restaurants, but at least it is free. Overall, this was one of the most unique dining experiences we have had recently, made extra special by Esther and her daughter's hospitality. I love supporting family-owned spots like this, and I will definitely be back to try that famous soy garlic and honey butter chicken next time.

Part of the reason for their long line would be the talkative cashiers. There is a way to chat up the customer while still keeping things moving along, but I've not seen it once while there; the chicken is that good that I put up with my least favorite thing at a restaurant--unnecessary conversation that adds to the wait time. The ambiance is also not my favorite. It's too loud in there. The music could be a touch lower--I'm there to eat, not be at the club--and the top notch cooks in the back yell a lot. I will say that the yelling appears to keep them upbeat, positive, and motivated; I see the value in it, yet it's the reason I get delicious chicken to go. They have a clean bathroom, a parking lot in back, and some of the best chicken in the Greater Los Angeles area. My mouth waters when I even begin to think about going there.
