Regular Sushi (Lunch Only) and Negitoro Roll
    Tiffani C.

Came here 5 minutes before they opened on a weekday for lunch and there was already a small line for the sign up sheet. I still got seated quickly. It seems like everyone comes for either the lunch omakase, which is only at the sushi bar or the lunch sushi set which is what I got. It was a pretty good deal, 7 pieces of nigiri (Chef's choice, so sad there was no salmon), 3 pieces of cucumber roll and 3 pieces of blue tuna roll. I underestimated how filling it would be so I ended up ordering a fatty tuna negitoro roll also. It was good but there was just a lot of food. The set also comes with miso soup and 3 side dishes. The side dishes were all lacking in flavor and subpar tbh. Service is fast and it's a more modern upscale place so I won't fault the pricing for that.

Was always curious about this place so I went here with my bf for dinner. I made a reservation weeks before because the restaurant is kinda small so it might be busy. When we got to the restaurant, it was pretty busy so good thing I made a reservation. I ordered the deluxe sushi dinner and my bf ordered the Premium Chirashi bowl. We both enjoyed our meals and the fish was fresh. They have a lunch omakase that I am curious about and will prob go back to try.

Dine LA Dinner Menu from 1/23/26 - 2/6/26.

I made a reservation through their website and received an email confirmation from Tock. I specifically chose the table for my reservation and not at the bar. Parking is usually easy to find, but they recently opened Molly in the same plaza so now parking is difficult to find. The restaurant is right next to Chef Tony, you can't miss it. I told the waitress about my reservation but she didn't look it up. She just pointed to the table available and we sat there. My husband ordered from their Dine LA dinner menu. It was $65 not including tax and gratuity. See the photo I uploaded for details. I thought both of us had to order from their Dine LA dinner menu but they didn't force me to. I ordered Negitoro Bowl, Shrimp Tempura appetizer, Uni (2 pcs), and alcohol. The table is quiet small for us with all of these plates, smaller bowls and drinks. I would love to sit at a bigger table but I think the place is designed that way if it's two people. Staffs are friendly. When my husband went to use the restroom, I told our waitress that it's his birthday. They gave us sesame ice cream with a candle. There's other flavors too but I chose sesame. You can taste how fresh the ingredients are. Looking around, I only see adults at this restaurant. Overall, I had a great time here besides not loving the small table. I'd love to try other items on the menu next time.

Two friends recommended this place to me and I was not disappointed. Ordered the dinner set and wow, everything was so good, even their complimentary side dishes! I normally dislike uni but was really shocked at how good it was here. You can make reservations online. Parking can be tough on a busy weekend night.

    Karage and sweet potato tempura

Very excited to get the dineLA lunch at Sushi Kisen! The lunch this time is the kaisen don with sweet shrimp, ikura, scallop, chopped toro and uni. There's a small side of yellowtail? marinated in a sesame paste that you are suppose to mix that in when you about to finish and they will pour hot broth in the bowl to enjoy a different eating experience. The seafood was all very fresh tasting as usual. I enjoyed all the components individually and as a whole. They told us to save the marinated fish at the end to put it in the bowl before they pour the hot broth. However, I liked it just by itself so I ate most of it before the broth came. The disappointing part was after they poured the hot broth in my bowl, I found a short, curly and thick hair that's not mine... They apologized and offered to make me another one but our entire party was almost all done so they took mine off the bill. As disappointing and upset about seeing a thick hair in my food, I commend the restaurant how they handled the situation. But PSA always look carefully before you put food in your mouth lol. We also ordered karage and sweet potato tempura. The flavor is light and subtle for both. The green tea salt on the side is unique. There's a line at the restaurant before it opens at 11:45am. When we finished, there's a line of people waiting for tables as well. Seems like the restaurant is always packed but we enjoy the wooden decor and the chill vibe.

Sushi Kisen lives up to the hype! I was lucky enough to try their omakase after making an essential advance reservation (note: people line up before the 11:45 AM opening!). The $90 Lunch Omakase is a great value, featuring an appetizer, 12 stunning nigiri, a hand roll, and a fish soup. The sushi is truly fresh and delicious, and I loved the slight flavoring in their rice--a sign of a meticulous chef. The sushi master was professional and incredibly attentive, enhancing the quiet, clean, and beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend! I can't wait to come back for their hot menu.

My husband and I always used to enjoy Sushi Kisen. We've eaten here both dining at the tables and at sushi bar for omakase. Food quality is always consistent and good, and we were always treated well before tonight, even when we had a younger baby. However, after tonight's visit we don't plan to come back. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday with our one year old and in laws. (Btw they charge $10 for bringing a cake and the edges of the dessert forks were rough.) Whenever we go out to eat, we pack clean up supplies and always clean up after our kid. We bring a disposable bib and disposable table mat. And we bring small trash bags to pick up her mess. My baby behaved fine, wasn't throwing food or anything. We cleaned up any big chunks of food that she dropped and put them into the trash bag we brought. Also, at the end of our meal, we always do a final clean up of stuff on floor and high chair. However, one of our servers passively aggressively started taking away the high chair, wiping it down, sweeping the floor when we were STILL eating. It made us feel like we made a big mess when we didn't. Lastly, my in law has dementia, hard of hearing and walks slower. As we were walking out of the restaurant, my in law was at the back of our group. After we were all out of restaurant, I saw the trash bag in my in law's hand. He said the server gave him the trash bag. Again the trash bag was food my kid dropped, disposable bib and tablemat (not diaper, not big trash). How rude was that to an elder with dementia. Will not visit ever again.

How did I not know about this restaurant? I'm so glad that I caught their anniversary deal on Instagram. It was decadent, so flavorful and filling. Of course, along with the top-notch service was the attention to detail. I'm so glad they don't serve their soup first. When restaurants do this, I get full too quickly and don't enjoy the other courses. Because this came right before dessert, it filled up all the cracks. The sushi was fresh. Undeniably premium. They gave us this tempura scallop with yuzu salt on the side. That salt was so bomb, we couldn't stop talking about it on the way home. It's such a beautiful space. They don't cram in way too many tables, which I love. There's a lot of room for foot traffic and privacy for conversations. It looks like the typical sushi restaurant you'd see in Japan. We will definitely be back! There were so many items on the menu we need to try in the not too distant future. And we will bring reinforcements! This place is too wonderful to gate-keep.

Always nice and clean with friendly staffs. We never feel rushed. Their food is always consistently good and fresh. Prices are very reasonable. We always come during lunch and sometimes dinner with group of friends. They are kids friendly too. Please keep up the good standard, we will keep coming back. Highly recommended if you never been here before. 5 stars for Kisen!

【Background】 Saturday, February 21, 2026, 1:10 PM Sushi Kisen is one of two Japanese restaurants in the Michelin Guide for the San Gabriel Valley [1]. If you search up omakase recommendations in the SGV area, Sushi Kisen will probably pop up as one of the suggestions. The inside is cozy, and the tables were already filled with people as it was peak lunch time. There were five sushi chefs manning the sushi bar, and I had the pleasure of being served by Chef Toshi. 【Food】 Menu: https://sushikisen.com/#menu Using the Tock website [2], there are two times available for lunch: 11:45 AM and 1:15 PM. I reserved the latter for the: * Lunch Omakase ($90) Once I was seated, the chef first confirmed if I was there for the lunch omakase and then asked if there was anything I didn't/couldn't eat. Listed below are all the items in order of when the chef served them to me. Hopefully, I got the names correct. * Appetizer Some kind of cooked white fish topped with slightly bitter green onions 1. "Tai" Japanese Red Snapper Paired nicely with sea salt and lemon 2. "Shimaaji" Jack Mackerel** 3. "Kanpachi" Amberjack 4. "Aji" Horse Mackerel From Spain 5. "Amaebi" Sweet Shrimp** 6. "Chutoro" Bluefin Medium Toro Extremely tender, probably my favorite nigiri 7. "Hotate" Scallop** 8. "Sawara" Japanese King Mackerel Slight bitter 9. "Hirame" Halibut 10. "Bafun Uni" Hokkaido Sea Urchin Creamy and chilled with nice savoriness from the nori, tasted fresh with no bitter notes 11. "Akami" Bluefin Tuna From Spain * Miso Soup Made with chunks of fish, so it tasted way savorier than regular miso soup. Be careful of the fish bones. * "Negitoro" Fatty Bluefin with Green Onion Hand Roll The timing wasn't great since the chef handed it to me while I was still eating the miso soup. Also, it came with a small dish for soy sauce, but there wasn't a soy sauce bottle near me. The hand roll was delicious, and I liked how there was a seaweed strip at the bottom that prevented the filling from squeezing out while eating. 12. "Tamago" Egg Chilled, slightly sweet In total, the Lunch Omakase came with a daily small appetizer, 12 pieces of chef's selected nigiri, a daily miso soup, and 1 hand roll. This was my first omakase ever. If you're a noob like me, then you may be wondering why the tamago was separated from the rest of the nigiri and served at the end. Omakase typically begins with a light appetizer followed by nigiri (lighter, milder white fish then heavier, richer red meat fish and shellfish) with warm dishes throughout the meal and ending with tamago. My palate is not experienced enough to discern all the different flavors in the various nigiri, and I don't have any previous omakase experiences to compare to. However, the fish seemed fresh, and I enjoyed not having to think and just being able to eat whatever the chef put in front of me. A few of the nigiri (**) were a little wasabi-forward. I'm not sure if the chef put too much on or if the wasabi was extra strong that day. Afterwards, I researched omakase etiquette, and apparently, it's perfectly fine to request less wasabi, so keep that in mind. Between the 7th and 8th piece of nigiri, the chef asked how everything was, so I should've spoken up then. I started feeling hungry again after 3.5 hours, so unfortunately, if you have a big appetite like me, the meal might not satisfy you for long. However, the $90 price tag is relatively affordable compared to how much omakase costs at other restaurants. 【Service】 After I walked in, it was a little awkward waiting at the front since there's basically no waiting area. All the employees were busy, so I had to wait until somebody walked up, and then I told them I was waiting for my reservation. Staff was attentive with refilling my water. The lunch omakase took 45 minutes and ended right at 2:00 PM, so it's a good option for a quick lunch if you're visiting during the workday. 【Parking】 Parking can be tough since the plaza is home to many restaurants and businesses. Luckily, there were still a few open spots even though it was peak lunch time. ---------- [1] https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/california/arcadia/restaurant/sushi-kisen [2] https://www.exploretock.com/sushikisen

The service was exceptional and the food came out fast. Each piece of it is super fresh and thick. You will be full with either a sushi combo or sashimi combo. The side dishes are great and taste good!

came here many times (omakase at the bar, lunch, and dinner) and had an enjoyable meal every time! My biggest fear when getting omakase is that I will leave hungry but that definitely was not the case here. I was absolutely stuffed after! The ambiance is very nice and the chefs are incredibly friendly and take good care of you. I believe there is an $88.00 minimum to bar seating so be aware of that. The lunch specials are a great deal! The sushi lunch is $25 which comes with miso soup and kobachi. The sashimi lunch is $27.50 and comes with a bowl or rice as well. We also love gettin the tray of uni if they have it, it's always super fresh and creamy. I would highly recommend this place for all of my sushi lovers!

I'm always interested in quality sushi joints that aren't so expensive you can't take a child and stayed alert for a chance to visit. I went with my mom for a quick Monday lunch before she dropped me off for vision correction surgery (which makes Akinori one of the last places I wore glasses). We only had about forty-five minutes, and this was just enough time for a light meal at the sushi bar. The restaurant was small and casual, and we opted to sit at the counter. There were a few other customers, and service was friendly and timely, but not fast. The chefs were skillful and deliberate, and they made delicious sushi. We started with snow crab sunomono, a nice light appetizer of vinegary cucumber and seaweed with a few meaty hunks of sweet crab. Then we got some nigiri: red snapper, black snapper, and tuna sets, which came with akami, toro takuan, ootoro, maguro zuke, and seared ootoro. Every piece was fantastic, the fish fresh, the nigiri delicatelly formed. Finally, I couldn't resist the maximalist Akinori roll, with spicy shrimp and langostino rolled with rice in soy paper, possibly tempura fried, then topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo, chives, and tobiko. I love an over-the-top spicy-tuna-centric roll, and this one was deeply satisfying. Akinori also does ramen and teriyaki and offers a bunch of reasonable lunch specials. You can eat here pretty cheap, or spend as much as you desire on good quality nigiri. I live almost 20 miles from Pasadena, but I hope to visit this place again.

They keep your water filled, and they're quick to refill wasabi and ginger without you even having to ask. It's bar seating only, which can be a little tricky for a shorty like me to hop up and down from, but the food and service make it worth it. There are no reservations, just walk‑in, but the service is fast and I've never had to wait. Plus, they offer free parking validation for 2 hours, which is a huge bonus. Always reliable, always delicious -- Kazunori never disappoints!

They have multiple locations across the Southern California area including this one near Old Town Pasadena. They do not reservations and you wait in line until there are open seats for your party. We came at around 6pm on a Friday evening and were seated immediately for a party of two. When we left at around 7pm there was a long line waiting so I recommend coming earlier. I recommend coming with a smaller party. They have different presets of hand rolls by count (3 to 6) where 6 is the most popular. The chef hands each roll to you individually and you're expected to eat it immediately to ensure the seaweed is crisp and the rice is warm. I got the 6-hand roll set ($29) which included toro, yellowtail, salmon, bay scallop, crab, and lobster. My favorites were the salmon, bay scallop, and crab. I also got the eel hand roll ($5.75) which was also good. If you want to be surprised, there's The Nozie which is their omakase style 6 hand roll set.

The first cold dish is so beautiful. I do not usually eat raw meat, but my experience is pretty pleasant here. The beef tartar tasted very fresh. The cooked cuts melt in your mouth! My favorite dish was actually the miso cod! It's sooooo flavorful. I dream about it still. It's comparable to the black cod dish from nobu. The bone marrow fried rice is just as great as the first time I had it! I want to come back everyday to eat it! Service: Our server is amazing! He cooked everything so well. He made small talk with us and was pretty attentive. Parking: FREE PARKING LOT OUTSIDE! Overall: Their restrooms bring me back to Japan. The seats automatically open up when you enter a stall. All the courses were definitely unforgettable. For the price, everything was unbeatable. It's a wonderful celebratory meal or a regular date night meal. I will definitely be back in the future!

The highlight here is definitely the quality of the Wagyu. The experience leans more toward a curated meat tasting, with beautifully presented, juicy cuts that are satisfying without being overwhelming. Even with two 16-year-old boys at the table, everyone left full -- which says a lot. That said, I took one star off because the setup feels more like a traditional restaurant than a true omakase experience. Since you're seated at tables, there's a bit of passing plates and bowls back and forth with the server throughout the meal, which slightly interrupts the flow and intimacy you might expect from a classic omakase. If you're looking for a sashimi-focused experience, this isn't that -- it's much more Wagyu-forward. Service was a highlight. Jamie was attentive, warm, and made the experience feel smooth and well-paced. Overall, if you go in expecting a high-quality Wagyu tasting rather than a traditional omakase, this place really delivers. A great Pasadena spot when you want something a little more polished and indulgent.

The place definitely reminds me of smaller mom and pop shops in the South Bay. We had just had curry, so skipped the lunch special combos and went with the cold noodle and rice, with an extra kaarage. We also opted for the upgrade to so a noodles. Food was delicious; nothing fancy, just good cooking and good ingredients. The chicken was hella crispy and juicy, the noodles just the right texture, and my mini katsudon was so yum. Friend had the mini tempura rice bowl and that was also tasty. Can't wait to go back, and bring some of my own duckies for the restaurant.

They give you a light salad as an appetizer which is really airy and refreshing. The lunch specials are the best for the deals so try to go around that time! For cold noodle options they have ramen, udon, and my personal favorite soba! The portions of the soba are huge and the amount of different kinds of tempura is definitely filling (squid, shrimp, potato, carrot, cilantro). The sauce to dip the cold noodles in are perfectly balanced in flavor and comes with green onions and wasabi as an add on if you want! Atmosphere: cute place with very humble and on brand theme of ducks! They are all over the place even the restroom! Price: price is not bad for the amount of food you get, but would definitely try to go during lunch.

Great customer service by the staff, caring, and fast service. Very cozy ambiance, they have both inside and outside seating. For a smaller restaurant like this, it has a good amount of table/seats. Not to mention that their sushi rolls were spot on as well. Would come back several times.

I understand they are busy, but there is no reason to swing the door at my face when I simply asked where I can put my name down on the waiting list. No answer, just rolled eyes and door in face. We really should've left because from that moment, it definitely felt like it was a mission for the two servers to make it a miserable experience for my family. I later found a small post holding up a chromebook outside of the restaurant with a paper with very small print explaining waitlist rules. It would be a lot better if the restaurant made a larger print sign that just says, "Sign In Here," and then have your small print letter to the customers about the rules. We put our name down at 12:30pm, it gave an estimated seat time of ~1pm. But because of the terrible service and mismanagement of the waiting list, we didn't get seated until 1:30pm. They seated 4 parties of 2-3 before our party of 4 when the open tables were side by side. On top of that, after we got seated, they still gave water and took the other tables orders that were seated after us before they came to us. Food took another 20 minutes to come out. I asked for the bill three times, but it didn't come until the other tables that were seated after us left and it was just empty tables next to us. In terms of the food, it was fine and the tempura was cooked well but I do not need to eat their tempura to be treated this poorly.
