    Chicken curry
    Francisco M.

There's mall parking to get here. This is located outside by the Nordstrom on the second floor. It's chill and casual inside. The staff are friendly. I tried the chicken curry with rice. It was okay. I got the mild curry but curious on the higher spice level. It wasn't quite favorful. The miso soup and side salad were decent though. I liked the dressing they used. The portions were good and should fill you up.

Great option for savory Japanese food in Santa Anita Mall Service was quick and friendly. They even had kids cups and high chairs which made it easier. Their Pork Katsu Curry was great. Thick cut, flavorful pork was the standout with a light crispy katsu crust. The curry was nice but not as special, but overall the meat was the star. Hayashi Rice was solid as well. Savory beef/onion stew that reminded me of an elevated hamburger stew. Will be back. Prices also pretty good for quality and location, and being a complete meal (miso soup and salad included)

Passable Japanese Curry spot in the mall if you have to have curry on your shopping spree. The curry is a bit pricey for the portions but a major miss is that the meal especially the curry needs to be hot and not lukewarm. The Chicken Kaarage appetizer was very good and came out hot. If you need a quick bite just get the Chicken Kaarage appetizer. Service is good and attentive.

Duy who is one of the chefs recommended me this place. Really wonderful food. I tried the spicy beef curry and it was outstandingly good.

The wife and I wanted some comfort food that's not Chinese in the Santa Anita mall, so we decided on Japanese, which brought us here to Tokyo Soul. Chicken Karaage - 2 stars** The chicken was juicy and the batter was lightly crispy. However, my main gripe was that it was way too salty. All the other people who ordered it seemed to have enjoyed it so maybe we got unlucky. Hayashi Bowl - 4 stars**** This is my first time trying a hayashi bowl, so I don't have anything to compare to but I have to say that this was pretty dang delicious. Beef was soft and the sauce was packed with savory flavor. Katsu - 2 stars** not the best japanese katsu that we've tried. The wife was pretty disappointed. The katsu was lightly crispy but was a little thicker and tougher than she wanted.

Nothing special but very good. Average wait time. Service is 10/10 for sure they're so so kind. Not too busy and smaller menu. Chicken was very moist and crispy !!

We've actually walked by a few times while at the Santa Anita mall but timing never worked out as they were closed in between lunch and dinner. Decided to dine here for lunch on a Sunday. Started off with a 5 piece karaage and was amazed by the size of each piece of chicken. Each piece was perfectly fried to a golden brown and was well seasoned and juicy. The dipping sauce has a nice little kick and for those wanting more spice, just add more chili powder which is on each table. We ended up ordering the katsu curry which once again was fried to a perfect golden brown and cooked perfectly. The curry had a nice little kick (ordered the mild) and paired perfectly with the katsu. I thought the portion was quite generous and had enough food leftover for lunch the next day. Wifey ended up ordering the soboro don which she quite enjoyed. The only thing I didn't quite like was the salad dressing thy provided with the side salad. Service was attentive and will definitely be back as our last meal at Kagura in MP was quite disappointing as the katsu was soggy.

Pork Katsu Curry and Boneless Chicken Karage

Showed up on a Friday at noon and we were the first two guests seated. Restaurant was clean and well maintained as well as our waiter being very courteous. We ordered the 5 piece boneless karage to share and both of us got our own order of pork katsu curry. Boneless Chicken Karage: Delicious! Would definitely order this again. Came out hot with a slice of lemon and what I believe was a spicy kewpie mayo mixture dipping sauce. Each piece was essentially a whole thigh, well worth it. Pork Katsu Curry: Also delicious! Came with a side salad and a miso soup which I didn't realize. Curry was my type where it's a bit more on the thicker and richer side. The pork was well fried as it was still juicy inside as well as crispy on the outside. Bit more on the pricier side but would definitely come back.

A pretty delicious spot in the Santa Anita Mall. It's located all the way past Din Tai Fung near the promenade. We came on a Friday and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. The restaurant itself is cozy. I really liked the decorations, and it felt like one of those small restaurants you'd find in Japan. As for the food, everything was good. I tried: Karaage - Crispy, well-seasoned, and the sauce was both spicy and savory. A must-try. (4.5/5) Pork Katsu Curry Rice - The curry was simple, but the pork katsu was perfectly cooked and super crispy. Great flavors, and I liked that it came as a set with soup and salad. (4.5/5) Hayashi Rice - My personal favorite. It's like a beef stew with thinly sliced beef and rice. Very flavorful and comforting. I'd definitely get this again. (5/5) Overall, I'd definitely come back. The food was good, the portions were sizable, and the prices were reasonable for Arcadia. Service was fast and friendly too.

Tried Tokyo Soul in Arcadia and was pleasantly surprised by how comforting and flavorful everything was. I ordered the Hayashi bowl and chicken karaage, and both dishes hit the spot. The Hayashi bowl tasted like a delicious hybrid between a Japanese curry and a gyu-don -- rich, savory, and full of depth. The pickles on the side gave it a nice pop of brightness, and the portion was generous. The miso soup that came with it was bold and full-bodied, not the watered-down version you get at some places. The karaage was another win: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and I loved that it was boneless. Super easy to eat and great for sharing. Overall, a cozy spot with satisfying flavors. I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu.

4.5 stars since it is a little pricey! Tokyo Soul is located in the outdoor space right by Nordstroms. This specific location has gone through multiple changes so we wanted to check it out. They specialize in Japanese curries but have other dishes as well. We got seated right away and there were plenty of counter seats available the entire time I was here. The servers were attentive and the menu is pretty simple which made choosing easy. The portions were decent but it always seems like curry dishes shouldnt be super expensive since its made in bulk. Overall the food was good. The miso soup came out pretty hot which is always a good sign. The salad was also good with a light citrusy dressing.

Soboro don. Every bite had FLAVOR.

I haven't been back yet but I had to get this off my chest and this might apply to you dear reader, when in search of good food on Yelp: DONT TRUST REVIEWERS WHO COMPARE CULINARY DISHES TO THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. It's COMPLETELY IDIOTIC to compare the quality of ingredients, the availability of the ingredients and even the portions. Oh, you've been to Japan and had food there? Nice flex, bro. But we're here, in California- where we don't have the same sea and land that grows the same crops and raise the same animals. Use your mouth and not your memories when tasting this food. Ok? Don't let bougie people dictate what is good cause sometimes they got no sense. And being mad at the servers? Maybe that one reviewer was hangry, the store probably barely opened and the server was probably just starting their first job. If a server was outright ignoring you I would understand, but some of these reviewers are being mean for the fun of it I swear. The menu isn't gigantic because they are making their dishes right, it's all about quality, not quantity. This ain't Cheesecake Factory. This ain't a Las Vegas buffet. Lastly, come with an open heart and mind- you'll feel better. That's all, I will die on this hill.

    Soboro-don
    Emily W.

We stopped by Tokyo Soul for dinner on a Saturday, and while impressed by the portions, the adorable interior and pleasant staff, I can't say the food was particularly standout. I really appreciate that the chicken karaage was gluten-free, and it was good. But I did notice that chicken fat wasn't trimmed well, so there was a pretty big chunk in my piece of chicken. The soboro-don was huge...and I actually was able to take home the majority of it. I just felt that the fragrance of mirin was a bit too strong (and never faded). The salad that came with the don was tart and fresh, but the dressing to salad proportion was a bit too much. Twice the amount of salad to that dressing would have been a better fit. I can say I'll be back with so many other options to try in the Santa Anita Mall.

Pork belly curry - delicious! Would get it again

When she was mostly done making it, another man came in the front door, put his dinner from another fast food place on the counter and started helping her. Like many new places, order is by kiosk only and they do not take cash. Highly recommend you skip the in-store wait and just order ahead on your favorite services that they take and allow 20-30 min to get there so you do not end up waiting in-store. The food quality was mixed. The spicy curry was too hot for us even though the flavor was good. The amount of meat and egg and overall food is not that big and you are mostly filling up on rice. That is not worth the post-Covid and inflation prices they are charging. The food tastes ok, but is not as good as comparable places or sit-down Japanese restaurants. The mild curry was not too hot and had good flavor. The potato salad texture is different, but tastes ok. We did not know one comes with each dish and so we accidentally ordered an extra. For maybe $5.99 or $6.99 it was totally not worth it. Even though we ate different dishes and did not share we both got mild food poisoning from here. We got: potato salad, chicken katsu curry, unagi bowl, and omurice bowl and a mango flurry. You definitely need massive lactade if you are lactose intolerant to drink their flurries and other yogurt drinks. Only really worth a try if you order ahead, really want take out and are in the area, and order two dishes and don't eat all the rice if you are pretty hungry and expect to pay a lot for it.

We walked into a space that stands out for its modern interior, featuring private wooden booth seating that creates a cozy, semi-private dining experience, the kind of setup that makes the meal feel more intimate than a typical ramen shop. The atmosphere feels contemporary and social, with a clean, thoughtfully designed layout that works well for both casual dinners and group outings, and the attached TBaar makes it easy to finish the meal with a specialty tea or dessert without leaving the restaurant. While ramen is the restaurant's signature, many of the menu's standout dishes are actually found elsewhere. The omurice is one of the most popular items, served with a fluffy egg and rich demi-glace or curry sauce that makes it one of the restaurant's signature comfort dishes, and the presentation, with the egg split open at the table, adds a theatrical element to the meal. Other highlights include yakitori, bao buns, katsu, takoyaki, and appetizers that give the menu plenty of variety. The ramen itself is solid, with options ranging from traditional tonkotsu to the Yin Yang Ramen that lets you sample both spicy and non-spicy broths in one bowl, though the quality of the ramen can feel less memorable than some of the restaurant's other specialties, the broth lacking the depth and complexity that defines a dedicated ramen shop. The attached TBaar also adds another layer to the experience with milk teas, fruit teas, and desserts that pair well with the meal. Matcha tiramisu, Japanese cherry blossom jelly, and other sweets help round out the menu, making it easy to stay for dessert instead of stopping somewhere else afterward, and the drinks are well prepared, with the tea flavors coming through clearly without being overly sweet. The restaurant's design is one of its biggest strengths. The wooden booths provide a semi-private dining experience, and the overall space feels clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed, creating an environment that encourages lingering over a meal rather than rushing through it. Service is generally friendly and welcoming, though it can slow down during busier periods as the restaurant fills up, with the team handling the steady flow but sometimes taking longer to check in when the dining room is at capacity. The overall experience remains positive, and the pace of the meal stays comfortable even when the service stretches. Kyuramen x TBaar offers more than just ramen. The inviting atmosphere, diverse menu, and combination of savory dishes, drinks, and desserts make it a well-rounded dining destination. While the ramen may not be the strongest reason to visit compared to some dedicated ramen shops, the omurice, appetizers, desserts, and unique dining experience make it a place worth trying, especially if you are looking for variety rather than focusing on a single dish. The balance of creativity, comfort, and a polished setting makes it a versatile option for a meal that feels more like an experience than a quick stop.

My bf said he could have creative freedom with a drink. He made a lychee pineapple green tea slush! Pretty good

The tonkatsu was some of the best we've ever had--perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Kagura is known for its specialty tonkatsu, and it shows in every bite. The portions were generous and came with all the sides needed for a complete meal. We left completely satisfied and felt the quality was well worth the price. The service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and efficient without making us feel rushed. Finding a restaurant that excels in both food and service can be rare, but Kagura delivered on both. If you're a tonkatsu fan, this is a place you shouldn't miss. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Los Angeles!

We were a party of two and were given a choice of a table for two or a more comfy booth. Since my guest was my mom, comfy booth. She had the Don (bento) with fried pork wet on top of rice, with eggy soy sauce. ..I sampled it ... It was great 5/5. I had the chicken was crispy 5/5 not gready...chicken was tender yet crunchy panko breaking... with curry.. the curry had a slight bitter note but it was fine, and thick, it was a bit goopy on the pour... and had a thin skinlike layer which was odd but it ate fine 4/5 There's a free appetizer...choice of fried oyster or fried crab cream like a large round rangoon...I can't eat seafood, bit mom enjoyed it. She gave it 5/5. We both loved the salad, the pickled carrots and two cubesof sweet potato., and the pickled Persian cucumbers. Small tiny discreet portions of each but elegantly and a great palette cleanser...the salad dressing was tart and light. 5/5 The utensils are pre-set on the table and so is the sweet tonkatsu sauce in a small carafe also preset....there's not much interaction with the bust wait staff, but it was easy to catch their eye to ask questions, get the check, or clear the dishes...I had hot cup of green tea. But no checking for more. But I'm sure icould have flagged down a waiter had I really wanted more. They deliver the food and fly off, so don't ne afraid to stop them to make your requests...they are nice about it. You can also get a pitcher of Sapporo if you drink beer and are a larger parry which I thought was nice considering Sappora usual comes by the bottle. Parking is plentiful in the back...and free. We enjoyed. Very much. Just know 1) no desserts on menu. 2) yes there's a kids menu and 3) every protein is deep fried.

Maid Nagi was on duty and she was both very professional and very polite. I ordered the Maid Lele Combo, the fish and chips were very good. The fried fish felt juicy kn the inside and crunchy on the outside. The chips/fries were good, right amount of soft and crunch. The Arnold Palmer Lemonade was a first time ever and it was nice and refreshing. But if you're a fan of sweets. The star of the show is the cheesecake. It has to be one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had. Since the combo was a Maid Special, Maid Nagi turned me into a cat (it was really fun and cute) and we cast a blessing to the food as well. You also get a cheki with the maid on duty, this time being Maid Nagi of course. Overall the atmosphere of the café was peaceful and fun. I went at a time where it wasn't too busy which is perfect for someone like me. If you're a fan of maid cafés or wanna try one for the first time, I do recommend checking it out. Thanks again Maid Nagi for a wonderful experience

We were served by a wonderful Caucasian maid, and we also noticed a cute Korean maid taking care of some other tables--the whole staff was super friendly and really added to the charming, positive vibe of the cafe. One thing that really stood out to me was their retail section. They have a surprisingly solid selection of Japanese trading card games like Weiss Schwarz, Hololive, and Pokémon, alongside some manga. It's an awesome touch if you're a fan of the hobby or just want something interesting to browse while waiting for your order. As for the food, I had to try the classic maid cafe staple: the omurice. I ordered the curry omurice, complete with the signature cute ketchup art drawn right on the egg. It was hearty, flavorful, and definitely hit the spot. We also tried a couple of their specialty iced espresso drinks, including the tiramisu latte. They were topped generously with whipped cream and tasty crumbles. The drinks are definitely on the richer, sweeter side, making them feel like a dessert in themselves. If you're into Japanese gaming and anime culture, or just looking for a cafe experience that's a bit out of the ordinary with fantastic service and indulgent drinks, this place is absolutely worth a visit.
