Came by on a Friday for lunch and was pleasantly surprised that there was no line at all. I ordered the US Kobe Slice Beef Don in the regular size and added a Jidori raw egg on top. My friend got the Omu Curry & Rice with Cut Steak. Both dishes were delicious. One thing to note is that the regular size beef don is smaller than the large tower version pictured on the menu, which our server explained beforehand. The beef itself was served at room temperature, but the warm rice helped heat it up. At first I was a little surprised, but our waiter explained that the beef is roast beef and intentionally not cooked well done in order to maintain its tenderness. After trying it, it made sense because the beef was incredibly tender and flavorful. My friend also really enjoyed her curry and said it was packed with flavor. Overall, a solid lunch spot with friendly service and great food. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu. A small little spot, but so many dishes to try! read more

Rice was done well with light ketchup flavor and not overcooked. There were bits of onion and red bell pepper in it as well. Egg was soft and fluffy. The hamburg steak was soft, like meatloaf. It was slightly underseasoned. ICED GREEN TEA Iced tea did not taste like green tea. It was very light in green tea flavor. Yes, probably from a tea bag, but still there's got to be some green tea flavor. It might have just been iced water. Got some samples of house hot sauce and pickled jalapeños. The hot sauce tasted like gochujang with soy sauce and maybe rice vinegar. It was not spicy. Underwhelming sauce. The jalapeños are spicy and they were sliced thin, which was better! You can order any of these sides by paying $1.50. SEATS This is a very small, corner restaurant. There were two bar seats on the side, about 10 tables and seats. LOCATION At the Santa Anita Mall. On the second floor, right across from Din Tai Fung. Come through Nordstrom's side and it will be easier to find. CUSTOMER SERVICE I was there on a Sunday and it was not busy. The server was kind and did his job well. But there was one Asian guy behind the counter who was just standing there. He was extremely rude from the moment I got there. He just kept on giving me weird and dirty looks. All I was doing was taking some photos of the outside of the restaurant and he just kept staring and giving me dirty looks. Went to the front to be seated for lunch and the server seated me. Server was very kind. Service was good and food came out at a reasonable time. But after I ate and paid, I took more pictures of the restaurant. We were in the area so we had to go here again. Even my mom, who never likes new food, liked Red Rock and completely demolished her meal. No a single grain of rice was left after she was done. I was craving a katsu so I went with that this time. The tonkatsu was so crispy and the sauce kept the meal from being too dry. The husband got a bowl where they gave a generous amount of demiglace sauce, which was so rich. Great little restaurant on the second floor food court of the Santa Anita Mall. Quick way to navigate to it is that it's right next to Din Tai Fung. A 10g large Kobe Beef Don and Pork katsu came out to around $70 and it was not satiating for the price vs size ratio. They only have a little bit of seating since they only have a ledge that sits several people, which is why my group decided to get takeout, but when you do that, it doesn't come with any miso soup. Mind you, I live about 45 mins from this establishment but the amount of times I've busted that mission to come here is unreal. The meat quality here is superb as well as the other dishes they serve. It's a small, cozy restaurant that exceeds your expectations. My wife and I always over order but what we can say, we love good food. Eventually, I was able to untangle most of the beef and eat it slice by slice with the rice. I thought eating at the counter meant we could see the dish being made, but it didn't. My wife ordered the Angus Cut Steak Don and added a Raw Jidori Egg. I ordered the large US-Kobe American Sliced Beef Don and also added on a Raw Jidori Egg. The items on the Signature Don menu, which is what we ordered, came with miso soup. The miso soup was pretty standard but it was nice to have some hot soup while waiting for the entree to arrive. My wife thought the Angus Cut Steak Don was just OK. Given it was an Angus Cut, the meat had some fattiness too it, so if you like that kind of texture, then this may be the dish for you. The US-Kobe American Sliced Beef Don was good. The meat was thin and flavorful when mixed with the egg and white sauce. Both dishes are served over rice. Overall, the meal was a bit pricey for what it is. I was still hungry after eating the large portion. If you haven't had this type of dish before, I think it's worth to try it once. I got the first item on the menu which was the 5oz portion of the US Kobe American Sliced Beef Don and I added a raw egg yolk to it. It's room temp steak piled over rice and served with some greens and a creamy sauce (I think it might be a very mild horseradish mayo). It also came with miso soup on the side. The meat was so soft, juicy, and flavorful, and the egg was a great addition that added another dimension of flavor to the dish. My husband got the 6oz portion of the US Kobe Kalbi Yakiniku in which the meat was served hot over rice with some greens and kimchi. He got it with the BBQ sauce and really enjoyed it with its lightly sweet and grilled flavor. It also came with miso soup. We also got a croquette on the side to share. Honestly, we had enough food from the two bowls we got that we didn't need to order this. It was coated in panko and fried, and filled with a beef, potato, and onion mixture, and comes to the table piping hot. There were decently size beef chunks in it, but the predominant flavor was sweet onion. It was good, though. The food came out very quickly and our server was helpful to us when we were deciding what to order. Everything was very good and extremely filling, but pricey. I'd order all of them again except the tongue, which was just okay. Egg isn't included with any of the dishes and costs an extra $2.50. I like the food, but it's expensive for what it is. The US-Kobe Kalbi Yakiniku Don was my favorite dish here so far as the meat is so flavorful in this. Their US-Kobe American Sliced Beef Don, one of their most popular dishes, was decent but the rice and meat did not have any impressive flavors and it tasted like eating roast beef with rice (I would definitely add the Jitori egg to this dish for enhanced flavor). I had to get their Omu-Rice with Hamburg Steak as it can be hard to find omurice in LA though this omurice as well as the accompanying hamburg steak tasted okay. I don't even know where to start with this place. I saw that this place was getting some hits and were so excited to try it. BUT when we went and lined up, it was almost like we were turned away because we had kids. We went to the front of the line and the lady working there just said um we're full, so to go only ok? I mean, I guess? There were limited seatings and even though they were full, I was taken aback by the question and customer service. So we opted for to go. We got what they were known for the beef don and the katsu and shrimp. Both were about $25. The beef Don came with the roast beef, raw egg, salad, and rice. The katsu and shrimp were the same price. 3 pieces of shrimps, 5-6 cuts of small katsu pieces, raw egg, a teaspoon of mashed potato, and a couple pieces of spinach on the side like an afterthought. The portion seemed to be smaller if you order the food for "to-go". I think this place is overpriced and overhyped. I don't think it's worth the money. For the price they charge, you'd expect something more out of the experience, including a much much better customer service. Disappointing experience. I'd say skip the place and go to either noodle st next door or din tai Yung across. read more

Before going to red rock: wtf so expensive After going to red rock: shut up and take my money* *for the beef tongue don at least Finally got to check out Red Rock in the santa anita mall in arcadia and it did not disappoint. Although it was indeed a steep price -- $29.99 for a 5oz grilled beef tongue rice bowl with miso soup BUT the meat quality was amazing. Cooked to perfection with chewy texture and seasoning was on point. The $2.5 raw egg add-on was necessary. Yes, it was worth the occasional splurge. Even the miso soup tasted a bit sweeter (literally). The $5.99 sides such as the potato salad with bacon can be passed. The fresh hot beef & potato croquette was good with meat pieces and lots of onion. But could be complimented with a sauce since the fried flavor can get dry a bit down the line. So this dish is a 'maybe get to try once at least' rating. Next time, I will either go for more gyutan or the sliced kobe beef or the omurice cuz the dish looks good from the other customers. There was no wait on a weekday evening and food was served quickly. Ps. No more credit card service charge as some of the reviews mentioned!
