This location isn't worth it compared to the Torrence location. Granted, food served inside a mall isn't priced the same. In fact, it's way overpriced and they're stingy on the meat ratio. Don't get me wrong, the sliced beef don was tender but the portion was just sad. The bowl looks huge, but that's because it's piled high with rice and barely topped with any beef. Unless you pay for the large (which comes with a hefty price tag), you'll leave hungry and probably looking for food elsewhere. Glad I tried to not try again here. We had our first Red Rock experience in Japan (thanks Jimin and Jungkook of BTS for the indirect recommendation!) and were blown away. When we saw there was a Red Rock opening in our own backyard, we knew we had to come and see if our prayers were answered. They were still in their soft opening during November 2024 with a limited menu. We ordered the tried and true: a large sliced beef don ($29.99) and a large cut steak don ($31.99). We were disappointed to find that the portion here was the smallest out of the two other Red Rocks we've dined at (in Tokyo and Torrance), despite us ordering the large size (can't imagine how the regular size bowl is!) and that the sliced beef don had more sauce than we liked. Not quite what we were hoping for, so we might give them some time before coming back. Since they were in their soft opening phase, service was a bit disorganized (forgot to give us menus when seating us, forgot to take our orders when we were ready, etc.), though still friendly. They charged for credit card use, so we paid in cash. Space isn't very large, so not great for large groups. They have a couple of two-top tables and bar seating. This place is a full sit down at a booth place, so it's a bit limited in seats. No tables, just sitting around their counter, so it's better for small groups. I really enjoyed this place. They were super patient while we took our time to decide on our choices. In the end, we went with the Kobe Kalbi Yakiniku BBQ don and the omurice with the hamburg steak. My first advice to this, no matter how much you might get tempted by other options, order only the rice bowls (don)! Finally got to try red rock after its been on my bookmarks since it opened lol! I got the 5oz sliced beef don with an egg and it was pretty nice! I don't know what I was expecting but the meat is tender, but not in a melt in your mouth kind of way. The egg yolk is very creamy and flavorful too. I love how they cooked the rice, it's chewy and firm and they put some sauce on top of it so its flavorful. But at the restaurant, it tasted a bit too salty. The white sauce is interesting - it almost tastes like sour cream? But I'm not too sure what it is exactly. Service is good. They cook everything super fast. This restaurant is bar seating only and very very small. I recommend coming during off hours or you might have a long wait. The restroom is around the corner, a bit of a walks away. Ordered the most popular slice beef don and added raw egg. You have the option between regular and large for this one. The portion is on the medium size I would say but everything was delicious! So large it is. The steak was perfectly cooked and there was indeed so much of it. Seasoning was perfect and each bite was savory and flavorful. I topped it off with a classic coke. Delicious! We decided to order the Angus Cut Steak Don and Curry & Rice with Pork Cutlet (Tonkatsu). The steak came with a small serving of salad while the tonkatsu was served with a small bowl of miso soup. The curry was very watery to my taste although the tonkatsu had a good crunch and the meat was tender. The Angus steak is decent and a bit chewy in my opinion. Service was fast but there were only 2 other people beside us. There's a 3.5% fee if you're paying by using a credit card so be aware of this charge or pay cash to avoid this additional fee. Beneath the immaculate meats lie a few shortcomings. The rice was dry which detracts from the experience texturally. The quality of rice & beef should be better matched. Glad there's finally one nearby and I don't have to make the trek all the way to Torrance anymore! They're currently in their soft open mode, so they only have what's offered on their soft opening menu so there's none of their yummy croquettes or omurice, but surely enough, they'll be added. As part of their soft opening deal, each "DON" or rice bowl comes with a free miso soup. Pretty solid miso soup, not too salty and came with a good amount of seaweed and tofu bits. It's located in the food court nook connecting the promenade area of the mall with the inside of the mall. It's right next to Uncle Tetsu where that hot chicken sandwich and the udon place used to be. Having this in mind, just know that seating is VERY limited. There are a couple tables for parties of 2 and the bar area, so just know that this is NOT the place to take a large group lest you wait for some time or have to sit...all in a row with one another? I'm assuming there are times when there's a super line since they just opened, but if you go during an off time when it's not a lunch or dinner rush, there can be no line there at all! My boyfriend and I shared their American sliced roast beef don, large size and we got a raw egg with it. Definitely enough to share and the rice to meat ratio is perfect. The roast beef was tender, juicy, and not too chewy from how "raw" it is. The slices aren't too thin and not too thick either, again perfect ratio.
