Yall have no idea how many times I've walked past this place at the Santa Anita Mall but every time, I wondered how it was Food: Ordered the Reg size US Kobe Slice Beef Don ~ $25.99 for 5oz **highly recommend you add a Jidori raw egg for $2.50 Slow roasted and hella tender def worth! People: they are very busy and have very limited seating available and don't let you save your place in line so you'll have to actually wait in line Vibes: it feels very similar to Japan restaurants as their culture is more of 'hurry and eat and leave' as the people waiting in line are staring and watching Overall, I would def come back and try other things in the menu as they do have a special menu and curry
There's a new Japanese steak bowl spot that recently opened next to Din Tai Fung, and while it's not bad by any means, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The bowl itself is clean, well-prepared, and made with quality ingredients. The steak is cooked nicely, and everything tastes fresh and relatively healthy--which I can definitely appreciate. That said, for the price point, I was expecting something more filling and flavor-forward. The overall profile felt a bit restrained. I kept waiting for that extra punch--whether from seasoning, sauce, or umami depth--but it never really arrived. It's the kind of dish that's pleasant and inoffensive, but also something I genuinely feel I could recreate at home without much trouble. Not a bad meal, just not memorable enough for me to return. If you're looking for something light and clean, it may be worth trying once--but personally, I was hoping for more.
I came here on a weekday night and there was plenty of tables available. There's limited seating, so I would be cautious if you're coming with a big party. The food is pretty pricey and delicious. I ordered the omurice curry pork cutlet and while they advertise the curry as spicy, I didn't taste any spice (as someone who can sometimes handle mild spice)/
Expensive for what it is, but definitely worth a try since you can't find this around the area. We missed the opportunity to try this in Japan. We got the Kobe Sliced Beef Don and Curry Rice with Hamburg Steak. Both are very flavorful and use high quality meat. The hamburg steak was very juicy and not too salty, which I love. For the price, we'd rather eat at a sit-down restaurant instead of a food stall. Despite the location, the service and ambiance were not bad.
My bf and I go to the Torrance location pretty often and was excited to see them open in his hometown. Food is just as good however, the pricing here is wild. The regular 5oz don is $25.99 and the large (10oz) is $41.99. My bf always orders the large at the Torrance location and it is $29.99. Granted I believe it's only 8oz for the large there, but that's a pretty steep increase! Seating is also real minimal, mostly just at the bar and it's awkward being served food from behind and sitting so close to other parties. m
Small restaurant on the top level of Santa Anita Mall near Nordstroms side, by Uncle Tetsu. Small eating area with bar top style seating. Not the most ideal eating setup, but efficient. Standout is their Sliced Kobe beef Don. The meat is thin and juicy. The sauce is flavorful. Highly recommend adding the egg on top (additional charge). This alone made everything worth it for coming here. It was quite pricey though but fair for the high quality and amazing dish. Their Omu-rice was okay, along with the hamburger steak. Pretty standard and a bit salty. Will be back for more of their steak bowls! Definitely consider a pass on their more economical dishes (hamburger steak/curry) as I feel their steak speciality is where it's at
I didn't get the opportunity to try this place when I was in Japan but definitely worth it coming here. Though we didn't have to wait long since we got here around 5pm on a Friday night but a line started forming halfway into our meal. This place should definitely have its own restaurant at least with more seatings. Seats here are like a bar style seating. At least the wait for the food to come out wasn't long. I ordered their regular size don with an extra egg on it. Ordered it medium well and though portioned nicely, I think next time I'll go for the large size. The meat was very tender and combined with the egg made it very good. Definitely one of the better places I've gone to. Is it worth the wait? I believe so. Service was good and food was good. The curry tasted good as well. Got to try their curry also. Definitely will come back to try their other dishes.
The food here was really good; you can really taste the quality for the price. I got the Kobe sliced beef don, and the white sauce was delicious. There was also a solid portion of meat. The seating setup reminded me of a sushi bar, and the ambiance was nice overall. Our server was so sweet and even pushed in our chairs for us, which I thought was a really thoughtful. sooo I did dock one star (honestly would rate this a 3.5) because I didn't notice at first, but the black bowl had quite a few fingerprints on it, which was a little concerning.....and did take away from the overall experience of enjoying the food
Came back to Red Rock Arcadia recently and was really impressed. The quality of the meat is excellent--super tender and flavorful. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly to medium or medium rare, just the way we like it. There was no wait, which was a pleasant surprise, and the service was great. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and everything came out quickly. It is a little on the pricey side, but the quality and experience make it feel worth it. Overall, a solid spot if you're craving good meat and great service.
Yum! The food here was really good, you can taste the quality and for the price I would say it's really worth it! The service was pretty good and the workers were all nice. I think the ambiance was pretty nice too it reminded me of a sushi bar but for meat dishes. The raw egg add on was a bit pricey and only worth it for one of the dishes we got. But overall pretty good and I will definitely be coming.
After an event in the local area, my friends and I headed over to the Shops at Santa Anita for dinner at Red Rock , a Japanese chain known for their roast beef don (rice bowl). This location is located inside the mall, down a corridor near the food court area. It has an intimate seating arrangement of approximately 14 bar seats. I wanted a more hearty dish, so I ordered their Omurice with Hamburg Steak & Demiglace sauce ($28.99). It's a bit pricey, but they make quality food. The Hamburg steak was juicy & hefty; the fried rice was wrapped by a cloak of fluffy egg and smothered with a lovely, deep, flavorful demiglace sauce. I also added on their potato and beef croquet (a flaky and delicately crispy panko crust outside which contains seasoned chunks of potato and beef). Both were exquisitely satisfying.
Delicious! All the flavors were right on . The service is great and attentive. Love the grab eat and go feeling . Very Japanese style seating and ambiance. Don't be fooled by the prices of the menu items , the meat is very good and prime . The portions are large and filling . Highly recommend the Kobe Denver.
Ordered the Kobe American Sliced Beef Don & also Pork Cutlet w/rice togo. The worker did a good job of explaining how the kobe beef was going to be. He said we should expect room temp beef similar to roast beef so that was good on the workers to inform customers! Onto the food, the curry sauce had a great flavor, pork katsu was crispy and tender! I enjoyed it (4/5), sizing was just very small. The kobe beef don was underwhelming to be very honest. The salad portion consisted of a little too small of a size. It came with a savory garlic? sauce but nothing crazy delicious, it was just okay, not as much flavor as I hoped..(3/5) I was disappointed by the portions for the price. A 10g large Kobe Beef Don and Pork katsu came out to around $70 and it was not satiating for the price vs size ratio. They only have a little bit of seating since they only have a ledge that sits several people, which is why my group decided to get takeout, but when you do that, it doesn't come with any miso soup. Not sure if Id come back just because my whole experience was okay, hope they make some adjustments to the ratio of the food in the future!
Small seating area, but it was kinda reminiscing of my time in Japan, where people can just walk into a stall to grab a bite of food. Ordered their star dish the roast beef bowl with an added egg! Love the combo of runny egg yolk and meat! In the bottom is a scoop of rice which really just made the meal feel whole. Warning though, due to their small seating space, there is a minimum of one entree per customer! So no sharing! even though I would never want to share this delicious meal! read more

It's a little different but very mediocre. The Kobe don tastes just like having multiple thin slices of prime rib on top of rice. Kobe ribeye omurice curry was average. I was expecting more runny omelet. read more

Counter seating. No A/C. Meat quality isn't as good as their Torrance location. Rice was a bit hard. Gave this place 2 chances, no more Beef tongue bowl- served lukewarm, like the meat has been sitting all day. Some pieces were chewy. Signature bowl- not as good as the Torrance location. Out-of-door damage: $75 for 2 bowls. Tip was set automatically at 20%. I changed to 18% save 10 bowls and I can fly to Japan read more
Ordered: - Signature US Kobe Sliced Beef Don with a raw jitori egg on top (4/5): good but a bit pricey. Do think the egg is worth it though as it adds a layer of creaminess to it. Portion was a bit small for the price (we bought the regular size), but the meat tasted good especially mixed with the egg. I'd give this a higher score if the bang for buck was better. Overall (3.5/5): We arrived on a Friday evening during dinner time and had to line up for a table. Luckily, this didn't take very long. Ambiance was a little awkward with people standing in line right next to our table and probably not the best spot for a group of friends to catch up at. The server working there was doing a great job though considering the amount of people though. It would help a lot if they could expand the seating area more and give patrons a bit more breathing room. Food was overall good if a bit pricey, so we may consider going back if we're ever in the mood. read more
It's in a soft open, so they're getting their bearings. I don't want to judge the service quite yet. I will say there is limited seating and there is one individual taking orders, serving, and bussing. It's a casual ambience and right across from DTF. The food. Wow. I was blown away with the rare donburi. The flavors were amazing. Even with sunny side up egg it was still coagulated white parts dropping over the beef. It was so tender and enveloped rice soaked in juices and this umami sauce. I want to eat here again. read more

This was a miss for us overall. We ordered the beef tongue and kalbi and neither of them matched the picture they had displayed! The beef tongue is thick cut in the photo but the food came out in thin slices. I did like the smoked flavor The service was pretty bad as well. The server was really busy - they need to hire more staff as he was rushing and hastily handing out miso soups without giving folks a warning to watch out. He also gave our food to another party and when he realized it was wrong, he just grabbed the bowl back from him. The customer was mid-bite & still holding his chopsticks! We waiting a pretty long time for our food and the second dish came out 15 mins after the first so it was cold already unfortunately and they didn't offer apologies for giving someone else our food and having to wait longer. read more

We tried the US Kobe Sliced Beef Don and the Angus Ribeye Steak Don, both topped with raw eggs. The sliced beef was super tender, just melted in your mouth. The Angus had a nice chew and was really flavorful in its own way. The rice was taste and the egg brought everything together perfectly. The staff was friendly and service was quick, which makes the whole experience even better. Solid spot overall. read more

Overall Red Rock is tasty, but I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon. Came here for lunch during the soft opening phase and got the beef tongue bowl and then angus steak bowl. I felt like the flavor was okay, but the price is pretty steep for a rice bowl- lunch for two of us ended up being $70+. I felt like the meal was missing some vegetables or more of a pickled element or dipping sauce - the beef tongue in particular came with some pickles, but could have used more of a sour element to balance out the flavors. Really wanted to try this place because I was missing Japan. I never got to try it in Japan but I would've loved to. At least I still tried it and I can say I never had anything like it. The restaurant is small with limited seating but fortunately we didn't wait long. We were directed to our seats and the waiter pulled it out for us which was super nice. I got the American sliced beef don. The meat was super tender and the sauce was light but flavorful at the same time. The pictures definitely do it justice because the amount of meat given is a generous portion. They also give plenty of rice and it's well seasoned. I asked for a jidori egg which had to be a purchased add-on and I feel like it definitely made a difference with it added on because when you mix everything together you get the perfect creamy texture. Just having this meal reminded me of being in Japan again so I love that this type of food and restaurant is here. I will say though it's not something I would get often as it can be a bit pricey but it is a nice treat to get once a while. read more

At the time of this review, Red Rock Arcadia is in it's soft opening phase with a reduced menu. It's not a very big venue, there's like maybe 12-14 bar seats and like 5 small tables. The fast service and okay food portion sizes mean that customers should probably be rotating in and out pretty quickly I think. First we have the signature Sliced Beef Don. Got it with a raw egg topping. I gotta say, it's very eye catching- this is their signature "mountain of meat" rice bowl. It's a little different than what you might expect- the meat is somewhat cold, but there's many slices of roast beef on here. It's still quite tasty, and the yogurt sauce that's on it works really well with the meat and rice. Definitely mix it up as you really start digging into it so the flavors really blend. Next up, the Angus Cut Steak Don. Got it with the raw egg topping. Unsurprisingly, this one is probably the meatiest in texture. Unlike the Sliced Beef, this one is warm throughout. It's actually probably my favorite bowl. The sauce that the steak is marinated in just goes really well with the rice. Honestly, unless someone was dead set on getting the signature sliced don for the novelty, if I were to recommend them a bowl, I'd pick this one. Finally, I had the pleasure of trying the Special Gyutan Don (Beef Tongue) Got it with the raw egg topping. If you've had beef tongue at KBBQ joints, you somewhat know what to expect here. Thin chewy slices of meat- but Red Rock nails it here. It's got this great char aroma to it when you put it in your mouth. The chew texture is just right, and there's a strong black pepper taste to it. Once again, it goes really nicely with the rice. This one was very tasty but ultimately maybe felt lacking in value- if only because the first two bowls just *feel* like more food. In case you can't tell, I highly recommend adding an egg (I go with the raw egg because I just like it more that way. You're gonna break the yolk anyways just to mix it all up. The egg yolk really helps blend the food together and just gives it this silky richness that boosts the experience. I loved every bowl I ate here. The price is very steep, but it guarantees you a bowl of flavor that meets a high standard. The only drawback to this place is that... honestly... I'm still a little hungry afterwards. It doesn't fill me up all the way, even with a Large bowl. This is definitely money for an experience of flavor, not to fill you to the brim. As such, I would only come here sparingly for special occasions, but man would I look forward to it. read more

I've had the Torrance location bookmarked for a while, but I'm glad I finally got to try it closer to home. We arrived around 3:30 p.m., during off-peak hours, and only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for two. My husband and I shared two dishes: the signature Kobe sliced beef don with a raw jidori egg and the Kobe zabuton yakiniku BBQ don with black pepper sauce. The signature sliced beef don is roasted, but the redness of the beef threw us off a bit--it's just not something we're used to, especially in a dish like this. The yakiniku bowl was lightly seasoned with black pepper sauce, and both dishes were incredibly tender and soft. We ordered the large sizes for both, thinking we were pretty hungry, but it ended up feeling like a lot of beef. After a while, the heaviness of all that meat was a bit much. We also wanted to add some spinach or namul, but unfortunately, they were sold out for the day. The miso soup complemented the rice bowl well. If you're a beef lover, this place is definitely worth checking out. Personally, I would have liked a bit more variety, maybe some vegetables on the side, because the meal felt heavy with just beef and rice. Our waiter was friendly, and I think I overheard him speaking Mandarin and later in Japanese. The restaurant itself has a small bar with seating for about 10 people, plus four tables for two, so it's not ideal for big groups. We saw someone ahead of us in line order takeout, so that's always an option too. read more

I heard of their soft opening on November 8, so I decided to come on the afternoon of November 9. Ive been a fan of sliced roast beef dons ever since my first trip to Japan more than 10 years ago, so this place was a must try for me. I ordered a sliced beef dons that came with miso soup. I loved the sliced beef don. The sliced roast beef was served room temperature but was cooked nicely already. I got the extra topping of raw egg to dip my roast beef in along with the yogurt. The flavors were accentuated along with a nice gooey texture. The rice underneath had a light unami sauce too which added to the taste. Overall, very delicious sliced beef don. I originally was unsure about its price of ~26.99, but the amount and quality of roast beef they gave was well worth the price. I was very satisfied with the food and will be coming back for more whenever I'm in the area. read more

My sister and I are here today since I had not eaten here before. I ordered the 6-oz Kobe Harami steak bowl and a potato beef croquette . Meat came out to be so tender and the BBQ sauce just hit the spot. We will certainly return! Excellent gyudon place (rice covered with sliced beef, usu. with fried onion). Authentic Japanese flavor. We got sat very quickly (there are no tables, just a long counter to eat in front of the kitchen and get out as soon as you're done. I tried the Angus Cut Steak Don (medium rare) and my friend tried the US Kobe Kalbi Yakiniku-BBQ Don (she asked for it well done). Both were incredible. Good and fast service. 10/10. read more

Finally got to try out this place after seeing so many videos on Tiktok. We ordered the US- Kobe American Sliced Beef Don and the Angus Cut Steak Don. I personally think the Kobe Sliced Beef Don is so worth the hype. The meat was tender and flavorful. The white sauce that it came with was also so yummy. On the other hand, the Angus Cut Steak Don was just okay. The meat had a nice peppery flavor but was very tough. I was chewing for quite a while after each bite. It's also a bit expensive for the portion but worth the experience. Would definitely come back but just for the Kobe Beef Don. read more

This location is a great area! After a good day of shopping came here to grab something to eat. Came during dinner time so there wasn't any line. Got seated right away or they do take out as well too! There's a few seatings, counter and table seatings as well. But if you don't wanna eat there you can always get take out and eat it at home as well. The service was very fast, the guy server was very nice and friendly. The food came out very fast! Once I came back from the bathroom is was coming to the table already! That's the kind of service I like! The food was so pretty and delicious! The steak don with raw egg on top was delicious and juicy! Finished it so fast that I wanted another plate so I got myself the beef sliced don (cooked raw) with a raw egg on top and god damn it was so good! Can't explain how good this place was! I would highly recommend any red rock restaurants you go too! This place was great! Especially if you're craving meat! This place will load your plate! For the price you pay you do get what you get! It's a lot so worth it! I had a great time and really enjoyed my food! I will be coming back again! FYI if you guys haven't try this place out the beef sliced don comes with this home made yogurt sauce it's not RANCH! Came here to try the beef don as I had passed this place while walking at the mall and saw customers eating a mountain of meat. The sauce on the beef don was really good. Wished I had more rice with it. The sauce was creamy, umami and flavorful. The meat itself was cold and had a bit of a chew but overall was good. The beef tongue bowl is a must get. The meat was flavorful with the spicy miso paste and thick. Overall I thought the beef tongue bowl outshined the beef don but both were their top sellers. Would definitely be back to try the rest of their bowls and expanded menu once that is up and running. read more
Eh it was okay, expensive and nothing special. Tried the sliced beef don and the meat was tender, just kind of lacking otherwise. The daikon soy sauce felt too sweet after a while and the white sauce was too creamy for my taste. The egg was nice, but $2 for the small egg yolk was quite steep. They give a lot of rice, when I think it would have felt more balanced with more vegetables instead. read more

Whenever I have a hard day at work, I always cheer myself up by eating at Red Rock Cafe. It's consistently comfy and warm - I usually get the Fluffy Omurice with Hamburg Steak and Demiglace Sauce. It's delicious and comes out at a reasonable time! read more

I'm so excited that Red Rock has officially opened with their full menu! I went on a rainy day at 4PM and was seated immediately. The staff welcome me and gave me drinks options right away. He was so nice to explain to me that the curry rice with hamburg is plain rice but the omu rice is ketchup rice- which my favorite!!!!! I love ketchup rice. What a pleasant surprise! The hamburg was juicy I HAD to give a thumbs up to the chef. Great seating along the bar, and def will be coming back- so many things I want to try on the menu! read more
Hidden gem in the santa anita mall, we had no idea there was a Red Rock restaurant in the sgv area. We got the beef tongue and angus steak don which came with a generous amount of meat and it was delicious. Can I say that the prices were justified though? Not really, it's one bowl of food for about $30-$45 and you're seated in a bar like space which doesn't really scream "fancy" like their price tag does. Service was good but they do charge you for wasabi here unlike the other locations, I'd come back to try their friendlier priced items! read more

Red Rock is one of my go-to spots whenever I have friends in town. This location has much better beef quality than the one in Torrance. The servers, Ting (a female server) and Hao Yuan (who also goes by Rocky in English), are amazing, accommodating, understanding, and polite they speak both English and Chinese, making the experience even better after waiting in line during the weekend (yes there will be a line but it's worth the wait) I always recommend their No. 1 classic dish, but if you're not into raw beef, the ribeye is a fantastic choice. My little hack if you are not a carb eater, substitute the delicious big portion of rice with salad. If you like yolk, add it, it makes it top tier. Even their omelet is delicious! Not too salt nor have msg it truly taste like I was back in Japan (well the cook is Japanese) The prices are reasonable for the quality, which is why I keep coming back. The only downside is that the fire department recently ruled that having extra tables in the walkway is a fire hazard, which limits seating. But aside from that, everything is five stars. I'll definitely be returning with friends and family--the quality and service make it more than worthwhile! read more

The server was super nice letting us know that the Kobe beef will be cold and that the angus beef will be raw. I honestly thought the place will be a togo and go to other tables to each but they were able to squeeze a couple tables and a bar. what I got us kobe sliced beef don + raw egg $24.99 + $2 angus cut steak don + raw egg $26.99 + $2 the kobe beef was so delish it was warm from rice and it was mixed with the raw egg and white sauce. it was super filling and i got me full for a couple house. angus steak was so warm too so flavorful. the wait wasn't so long on sunday afternoon i waited 15 mins. Saw that Red Rock was opening in Arcadia late last year and we're finally stoked that it's open! We've been to the one in Torrance but that's quite a drive from us so naturally, we had to try this new location that's much closer. The restaurant is found at the Santa Anita mall and you're invited to bar style seating. They're known for the Signature Don Menu which pretty much is made of different roast beef rice dishes, but with good-quality meats. That doesn't mean that you should stick to only their Don dishes. They've got curry and rice dishes as well as omu-rice dishes...and these are the dishes that we ordered...with no regrets. Spicy Black Curry & Rice with Fried Shrimp - This was a good dish...just not as good as the others we had. The curry was tasty and friend shrimp was good...but it's fried shrimp. It was cooked well but nothing too crazy about it. It only came with 3 large pieces, but that can leave a customer wanting more. Omu-Rice Pork Cutlet - This is what I personally ordered and really enjoyed it. I thought the pork cutlet was cooked very well with a nice crispy outside, but still tender and juicy enough inside. The omu-rice was delicious and added a different element of flavor than what I'm used to with the tomato-based sauce. Plus, the egg was fluffy which was a big plus. I chose the demiglace sauce and thought it complemented the rice very well Omu-Curry and Rice with Hamburg Steak - This was probably the biggest surprise as it ended up being the most flavorful! Not sure if it's because I didn't expect much from hamburg steak, but we all really liked it! It was just full of great flavor and juicy! I ended up wishing I ordered it for myself! Beef and Potato Croquette - Added this on because I love croquettes. It was good and the beef flavoring was a nice touch. Just thought it was a bit expensive for the price of it. Overall, we think Red Rock is a great addition to the mall and adds another nice option on top of the other great food offerings in this section of Santa Anita Mall (no, not the regular food court). Definitely a place to check out if you like rice dishes and aren't feeling for noodles or dumplings read more
I went here with my friends for soft opening and the staff was very accommodating and they work really fast. There aren't many seats but we didn't have to wait too long in line and the food came out pretty fast. The beef was very tasty, I only take off one star because sometimes the steak was a little chewy. But overall I had a great experience and will definitely be back! read more

Got food to go, and it still was pretty good! Now I'm not sure if it was the right portion though because we ordered 1 large and 1 regular of the popular US Kobe sliced beef Don. It was a $5 difference. Looked about the same between both containers ..... so that's a bit concerning. I guess the large had slightly more meat? The kobe tasted great with the sauces -- light not salty soy sauce & yogurt or mayo white sauce! Both definitely complimented the rice and meat! I would share even a regular because i'm not a super big meat eater. Tasty for what it is! Comes with a little bit of plain salad greens. We were excited to try this restaurant. The photos and descriptions of the food looked mouth-watering good. If you go during lunch or dinner time- expect a wait as they have very limited seating. Not a place for big groups- maybe 2-3 max. I ordered the Regular angus ribeye steak don (medium) and my fiancé ordered a large US Kobe kalbi yakiniku-bbq don (black pepper). Both dishes came out pretty quickly but we were a bit disappointed. They were both served with miso soup. I guess my expectation was a bit high and expected there to be more than just rice and meat. There were a few pieces of veggies/kimchi but the meat on both of the bowls were so salty and flavor overall was underwhelming. I tried the large U.S. Kobe sliced beef don with a raw egg, and it was great, the rice was extra saucy. For their soft opening, they included miso soup with each order. The seating area has about 10 seats, and while some items from the Torrance location weren't available, it wasn't crowded during Saturday lunch. Note that there's a 3.5% fee for credit or debit card payments, so paying cash avoids the charge. Great spot for small groups! read more

Good place but for me didn't like the yakiniku since it was a bit overcooked for me. Flavor is pretty good but would get the original cut don over the yakiniku. The place is small so you would have to wait a bit for a table depending on how big your party is. The egg didn't do much for me either. But the original cut don is really good and great flavor. Overall would come again. Right next to uncle tetsu so you should be able to see it. Potato salad has lots of bacon if you enjoy that. read more

This is chain in Japan. Definitely something different in terms of Japanese food offerings in San Gabriel. Went to the soft opening and ordered 5 different items which when shared as a group eventually became hard to differentiate, but the meat and rice combo was definitely tasty.
