The service was phenomenal and the product is perfect. I am very very impressed with Sundance's professionalism, cleanliness, and hustle. The weak link (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is the communication. I found them difficult to communicate with; also, I wasn't sure the information I got from their office was always reliable. (Example: they showed up unannounced one day to look at the gas piping. I wasn't home. They had my cell number but for some reason decided not to call me in advance?) What I liked about Sundance was that they really showed a lot of hustle when I asked them to do this job quickly so I could have a gas insert by Christmas (Sutter had told me no way previously). The sales guy really made it happen on time. The installer was incredibly professional and clean, and the owner showed up the day after the install to take care of a few final items. Except for the communication with the office, which was uninspiring, Sundance really made me feel like a valued customer and they did a great job. read more

The pilot light on our tankless water heater kept randomly failing to ignite, leaving us with no hot water and no heat whenever it decided to turn itself off. The repairman sent to my house was right on time and very polite and conversational. He diagnosed and fixed the problem in less than 30 minutes which was great, and overall I was happy with the service as a whole. I'm deducting a star because the person with whom I made the appointment told me they charged $99 plus tax to send someone out to diagnose, but that was waived if the repair is completed. When he told me the total was $140, citing the $99 diagnosis fee but saying this kind of repair costs a bit more, I asked why I was told the diagnosis fee would be waived if the repair was completed. He scrunched up his face and said, wellllllll, that's not exactly true, they need to mention how this costs a little more. Having worked in customer support for many years, I knew that airing my frustration with him would only make him feel bad for something that wasn't in his power, so I paid and sent him on his way. However, I can't help feeling a little duped, especially since a big reason I hired this company was due to the fact they didn't charge an arm and a leg just to have someone show up. read more

We came home the second week in November to a cold house. I asked around and got a recommendation for Sundance from a friend who's used them in the past. They came out promptly and "red-tagged" our furnace, saying that the heat exchanger was cracked and could be leaking carbon monoxide. The actual fault was almost certainly in the wiring between the thermostat and the furnace: the cracked heat exchanger wasn't why it wasn't working. Red tagging means disabling the furnace. The homeowner can put it back together if s/he wants, but clearly not advised in this case. We do have CO detectors, and neither was registering abnormal CO. We got on the schedule four cold days later. They sold us an 80% efficient furnace and a ductless heat pump, which will also work as A/C, and upsold us on a new water heater to replace the 20 year old unit that was working perfectly well. The installation took four days instead of the two days promised due to some incorrect measurements by them that resulted in them having to bring in a second water heater and getting the wrong ducting the first time. Everything was working by the time they left, but the heat pump installation was incomplete in that they didn't bolt down the exterior unit or finish sealing the outside of the house where the heat pump piping went through the wall, and the electrician left a mess of cut off wiring ends, brackets and stuff. They also stained the carpet in the basement next to the furnace. The good news is everything works and the house is warm. A month later, my wife filled out an email survey Sundance sent, in which they asked for feedback on the job. It turned out that the foreman on our job never completed the paperwork closing out the job, so they didn't realize it was still in progress until they got the survey back. At least, that was their story. J.D. called my wife and attempted to intimidate and browbeat her into saying the job was done and pay the bill. She asked me to intervene, so I identified Curtis Dahl as one of the owners of Sundance by going to the state website on business registrations and called him directly. Mr. Dahl was tactful and polite, heard my feedback, and scheduled a time to come to the house and get things squared away. Mr. Dahl saw to it that our carpet was cleaned, and the rest of the installation was taken care of and cleaned up. That was in December. Then it was March, and we received another bill for the balance. I told Mr. Dahl back in December that the payment would be forthcoming when the installation passed inspection by the city. We still hadn't seen inspectors, nor do we have copies of the building permits, so I called Sundance and told Theresa, who answered the phone, that we'd pay when it passed inspection. At the end of last week, Theresa called to say the permits were in the mail and the inspection was scheduled for yesterday (Tuesday, April 28). We received the permits, and yesterday two City inspectors showed up, one for "mechanical" and one for "electrical." They asked who did the installations, and when my wife told them Sundance they both said great, they're good. After a cursory inspection they signed off. Sundance will get paid in full next week. I give Sundance three stars, an A-OK rating, because everything works and it passed City inspection. I don't give them four or five stars because J.D. is rude and overbearing, because this took too long, with too many appointments and phone calls, and because of the worry that ensued. One of the permits wasn't pulled until April 22! The worry, which turned out to be unfounded, was that the installation was not up to code and that's why this was taking so long. read more

I've used Sundance a few times at a couple of different locations and have always been very happy with their work and their prices. The technicians and installers have consistently done a very good job and *always* insist on wearing little cloth booties over their shoes when they walk through my living room, even when I tell them it isn't necessary. The reason they get a 4/5 rating has to do with their back office rather than the quality of their work. Scheduling can be a bit confusing and, at least with my last visit, billing was a bit odd (E.G. late notice for payment on a service that hadn't been performed yet). Aside from that caveat, I would definitely recommend them. read more

Once they were good, on-time to service my furnace. So, I called them for a water heater problem and got my water heater replaced by them. Two months later furnace started leaking water. When I called again, they gave me a big estimate to fix the furnace. Upon investigation, I find that the furnace issue originated because these people did not deal correctly with a "T" vent pipe that was shared by furnace and water heater. They let the condensation to occur in the pipe. They have very poor technical expertise. They lost my trust. I do not recommend these people. read more

It took forever and they had to come out and reinstall the unit. The salesman kept saying it was fine but the manager came out and had them reinstall and fix multiple problems. The end result was good but the idea that they may or may not install a gas unit correctly and may or may not fix it is not good. We had Sundance Energy install a Mitsubishi ductless heat pump system in August of 2013. The entire process from sales (JD Davis) to installation (electrician Richard Sanders) was most professional and responsive. Their quote was most competitive and all representatives of Sundance were a pleasure to work with. And, we are very pleased with the super quietness of the Mitsubishi indoor and outdoor heat pump units. read more

At this point I would never use this company again. When my gas fireplace (which I purchased and had installed by Sundance several years earlier) went on the blink at the same time my furnace died this winter the best Sundance would do was to give me an appointment six weeks later. This was despite the fact that I told them that I was keeping my house warm by putting my kitchen oven on "Broil" and leaving the doors open. Fortunately, I was able to get a new furnace installed by a different company in a much more timely fashion. Though they did arrive for the scheduled appointment all the techs did was perform what they regard as a routine service which seems to be little more than vacuuuming out a small portion of any soot while leaving a great deal behind. The majority of the service call seemed to be devoted to the more experienced Tech training a clearly rookie Tech rather than to addressing any of the issues my system had. These consisted of the pilot light not staying lit and the piezo-electric sparker needing replacement. I had told their scheduler that these were the two reasons I wanted service and they failed to address either of them. Since the Techs departed my pilot light has gone out five times. Relighting it without an operational sparker requires removing three heavy cast iron pieces and opening the firebox and then putting it all back together again. This is difficult for a man of my age and health. Replacing the sparker as I had asked would have been a big help. Making the pilot light stay on in the first place would have been even better but that would have involved them taking some 600 sandpaper and cleaning the thermocouple/thermopile and required about two minutes of work and I guess that isn't included in their standard "service" call. I have called them and registered my displeasure, expressed a willingness to pay them to replace the sparker and polish the thermocouple/thermopile absent any trip charge and have not heard back from them for two weeks. Oh, one last thing. I asked the senior Tech for an approximate cost on replacing the blower fan, it works but it is getting a little noisy. He quoted $700. Low end this part costs $29, high end it costs about $120 and it is a task that any competent technician could complete in less than half an hour. Seven fasteners, one wiring harness. $700? I'd call that a rip-off but I'll leave that up to you. All I know is that I paid Sundance around $200 for about 20 minutes of running a Shop-Vac. They didn't fix the pilot, didn't fix the sparker, didn't even do a good job with the vacuum and now won't respond to my complaints. Good luck with them. read more

One of our gas fireplaces had gone out on us and we realized it was also time to have our furnace serviced as well as our other gas fireplace. We contacted Sundance and they were extremely booked, it is the winter season after all, but we were able to wait and get the next available schedule slot. Sundance notified us the day before of our appointment and the tech called us the day of to let us know that she was on her way and the time she anticipated arriving. Heather was right on time and she went right to work. She had the furnace in great working order and cleaned and serviced the gas fireplace that was working. Our other fireplace was an issue as it needed a new part which would take dedicated time to install. Heather got us rescheduled immediately. She returned on the scheduled day and went right to work. She was meticulous and quickly responded to any questions or concerns we had. The fireplace was up and running and we were elated since it had not been functioning for quite some time. read more

Frozen with little hope to get a quote or repairs. Learned the right question to ask. Please consider asking of the technician that is being sent to your house is working next day. I called Sundance on Saturday; on Sunday they sent the technician Bryan, who was able to determine the problem. Bryan gets 5 stars for being on time, being courteous and pinpointing the problem. Now the part needs to be ordered but Bryan is off till Wednesday. I called this morning asking for estimate, was assured I will get a call back today. No call back or quote as of 1:13 PM. I called back again - spoke to Candice, who said that since my technician is off, someone else would be doing his job between their orders. After they get the quote, they would have to call me to get a deposit. I am expecting the call from Sundance before the end of the day today. At the best case scenario they will order the part today. I feel happy I am not on the East coast covered with snow, because with that level of interest in customer service I would freeze to death. Will keep posting updates. Take away message at this point: don't allow people who are off tomorrow to look at your furnace today. You are setting yourself up for delay in service. read more

The young man that came to service my furnace today was not only punctual, but also very professional, courteous, upbeat, and knowledgeable. He made sure to explain to me what he was doing and looking at, and what condition the components were in as he was doing his inspection and testing them. He introduced me to additional services that Sundance provides and I may need in the future if I choose, in a very conversationally-relevant, helpful, and non-pushy way. He exemplifies the kind of customer service that every company would hope to have in their employees when they are out representing the company. First they were hired to clean 2 old gas inserts. Charge quoted was $99 each. After waiting 1 month, they had to cancel and reschedule on Christmas eve. That AM they called to cancel but came to do the one by the Christmas tree with pressure. Charge was $160. Ordered 2 new inserts. One of the pilot lights goes off and has to be relit each time. Scheduled fix twice now and each time they come only to fit the custom surround( twice because they measured wrong the first time). Still no fix for the pilot light. He always does a great job, and I requested him when I called - he's serviced my fireplace in the past and I had the same experience. We had an emergency heating furnace breakdown. They were courteous over phone and gave me an appointment for 2:00 on the same day. Bryan, the technician showed up right on time. Was very courteous and professional. He explained the issue. I am very satisfied with their service and will definitely consider them again. The price to replace heating element was pretty steep ($300+). But for all the pluses, I don't mind this. read more

We were in the market for an expensive 4-zone heat pump mini split system and called Sundance because they had been advertising a special offer on New Day northwest. When the sales technician came to our house to look things over and prepare a quote- he made it abundantly clear that he wanted us to sign on the dotted line before he left the house. He left disgruntled when we wouldn't agree to the $15K plus system right there on the spot. Subsequently, we requested an itemized cost break down, as this was a very big purchase for us and we wanted to know exactly what we were paying for rather than just a lump sum amount. This request was met with a "well, I could do that but that would be a lot of homework for me, and well...I don't really have time for homework right now". The next request was for confirmation that the offer/discount had been applied, to which the sales associate responded "well, just trust me, you are getting the best price, a better price than what you would get with the discount". Give me a break- could this process be any more ambiguous and frustrating? We called up Rossoe the next day and their sales technician have us a detailed, itemized proposal without us having to ask for it, and the process was as clear and pressure-free as it could have been. Very happy with our decision and feel sorry for anyone who falls victim to one of Sundance's greedy salesmen. read more

Run don't walk away from this business. I had a zero clearance fireplace installed in an existing chimney by this company. They did a shoddy job of the framing but we had the contractor already here to rectify. What was not obvious was the chimney cap installation as located around 40 feet above the ground level. They placed a new flue over 30 year old sheet metal and poorly performed. Prior to the warranty expiration, we developed a leak that extended from the top of a second story chimney to the first floor kitchen. We called, they couldn't come. We got someone else to tarp the leak, they still couldn't come. We contacted them through an attorney to declare whether they intended to honor the warranty and repair the chimney and cover the thousands it cost to repair the damage, they failed to respond. These people only want to make a sale and from J.D. the salesman who recommended an overpriced contractor for finish work, to the partial owner who explained they were too busy to stop our leak, come out and inspect the damage, they have no business ethics. We have obtained three opinions for the insurance company that state the work performed was substandard and did not meet the criteria for water exclusion. Stay away from this company unless you like correcting self induced problems. After this posting the company has purportedly made a partial restitution. I will amend the review further once total restitution is made. Heidi has been the one ray of sunshine in that she sincerely wants to help and has been very professional. read more
