I recently bought a home built in the 70s, which had a past end-of-life furnace and which sensibly didn't have cooling, though I wanted it as its become increasingly important over the years. I pitched a project via Yelp to install cooling and replace the furnace to all of the most highly rated companies in the area. All of them recommended a heat pump as opposed to traditional AC. Better Air NW's proposal was not only the least expensive by a fair margin, but also offered the highest quality machines and best warranties. Normally, I'd be pretty skeptical at that combination, but all of the positive reviews on Yelp convinced me to accept their offer. A few days later, as I write this I'm basking in the warmth of my new heater. The installation was smooth, painless, and well done. Despite some unexpected challenges in the home's design to figure out and overcome, they charged exactly their estimate; there were none of the kind of headaches or scams that one often expects dealing with contractors. As a new home-owner, and having had mixed experiences with heating/plumbing/contracting services, I got multiple quotes. I decided to go with Better Air NW, mainly because of their high yelp rating. Install did not go perfectly. I had concerns about excessive equipment noise. Justin (the owner) assured me that if it's not right, it's not done. Air pressure settings needed to be corrected. Due to the vibration, we unmounted the heat pump from the house. After that, it's been smooth sailing. They appear to have a strategy of cultivating customer satisfaction and confidence. Found a broken duct in my crawlspace that was well beyond my ability to repair. Found these guys very highly rated on Yelp - they did a free visit for an estimate (2 guys spent a while in the crawlspace assessing the work and provided a detailed explanation of what was needed). Seems the original install (early 2000's furnace retrofit to a 1950's home) was poorly done and crammed too many systems into a tight space, making it really hard to properly connect the duct. Photo shows what they were working with. It took a little while to get the estimate and it was not cheap (about $1k for duct repair) but they were able to come out for the work fairly quickly and billed less due to not having to spend as much time as estimated. Provided before/after photos, thorough work, friendly and patient explanation of the work done. Would hire again. read more

We had been hearing some high-pitched squealing sounds last week, which usually means a bearing is going out then this last weekend the furnace stopped. We contacted them after being told it would be most likely a week before someone could get out and a friend recommended better air Northwest, and they were able to come out within three hours and give us an estimate and the estimate isn't the cheap solution that I wanted explained why and showed us the error codes. My husband and I had our gas furnace replaced in January by Better Air NW. They were incredible--from the quote, install, and follow up--they were incredibly professional and responsive, and I can't recommend them highly enough. We got several quotes and their pricing was competitive and their service exceeded our expectations. There was a small problem with the installation, and we called on a Friday afternoon when the new furnace stopped working. Someone was at our house in less than 30 minutes and was able to quickly identify and fix the problem. This was especially important to us, and impressive, since we were in a cold snap and we worried about our pipes freezing if the furnace couldn't be fixed before the weekend. We never felt like we were getting a sales pitch or taken advantage of. They seem refreshingly motivated to set us up with a furnace that would meet our needs and to do a great job. Oct 11 2025 Update for anyone thinking about hiring better air today : yesterday Justin, co owner , posted slanderous statements on bbb in an attempt to pressure me to remove my yelp post . Justin claimed 1: that his employee ,cory, worked in my furnace , found a failed part, attempted to replace it and was not able to source the part . Where is the screen shot of the calls made by Cory to his parts supplier at the time he was invited into my home ? Where is the screen shot of the 'failed' part ? Justin was unhappy that I immediately contacted him with this horrible customer service experience with a demand letter that he return immediately and do the job better air was contracted to do, and to compensate my tenant for wasting both our times with a Starbucks gift card for my tenant . Following up on comments made on 04-01-25. The furnace has been installed, and my ducts have been cleaned as a bonus. As with other members of Better Air NW that I have dealt with during this process, these guys were absolute professionals in every regard. As for the unit itself, virtually everything was an upgrade from the Lennox furnace that it replaced: the furnace is smaller, but more efficient; the 4" thick filters, though a bit more expensive, are vastly superior to the 1" filters previously used, and can last up to one year rather than three months. The new Honeywell thermostat is smaller, but has many more features than the old Honeywell thermostat. I need to note that the process was complete within 48 hours of the death of my old furnace. I've highly recommend this company. read more

Update: Justin, the owner, followed up and, in addition to refunding the cost of maintenance and providing a discount for a very competitive rate for furnace replacement, was able to get a team out quickly to get us back up and running. While there may have been a miss on diagnosis during the regular maintenance, the earlier furnace had also been installed improperly under the previous owner, contributing its early failure. Based on my interactions with Better Air NW, I will not hesitate to continue to recommend them (with guidance that for gas odors, your first point of contact should be your utility). --------------------------------------------- Better Air NW came to check on my furnace three times over the past two years for regular maintenance and, after the last visit when they were alerted to excessive and increasing exhaust odors, stated that it was operating as usual and that was a typical exhaust smell. After a follow-up call with Puget Sound Energy due to faint odors inside the house, they detected unsafe levels of carbon monoxide coming out of my furnace exhaust and shut down the system. Upon inspection, they found that my condensation trap and collector box were not operating properly, and my secondary heat exchanger was clogging and starting to fail. As a result, we are out of a furnace and started having exposure to unhealthy gases around the house. read more

They did end up having to reschedule from our first appointment but explained why and also gave us a freebie upgrade on our service, which I appreciated. He was on site for a little over two hours. And my spouse and I were able to work during the whole appointment - the equipment wasn't as loud as I thought it would be and he definitely seemed to know what he was doing. They stand behind their work. My ecobee thermostat was telling me that my furnace kept rebooting unexpectedly. They came out and did what they could. A week or so later I still had the same issue. So they came back out at no extra charge. Still couldn't replicate the issue but did a few other things to hopefully help. Still had issues a week later so they came out a third time at no cost to me. This time they were able to see the system rebooting every 5 minutes and diagnosed it as a high temperature thermostat issue. They ordered the part and came out again to replace. So 4 visits later and all I had to pay for was the original visit to diagnose and the part. Was very easy to text them and reschedule visits. I had recently scheduled a dryer vent cleaning for today. Emmanuelle was the technician who came out. He was very friendly and professional. He took his shoes off before entering our home- thank you for being so courteous. I showed him where the dryer was and where the vent exited out of the house. He did work on his own quickly and efficiently. He also asked twice if I had any questions about anything he was doing. He also did his best to vacuum all the dust from the vent that got onto the floor. When finished, he kindly mentioned that the cover for our dryer vent outside was old and had some sun damage and recommended we replace it. Fantastic service from Better Air NW. We recently moved into our first home that no central air and only electric heating. Really expensive in the winter and the house was already getting very warm just from the brighter weather. Matthew worked with us from the start, asking what we wanted to achieve and offered suggestions for a ductless HVAC system that'd keep things cool but give us more efficient heat in winter, then provided a quote to install it for five rooms that was competitively priced. They installed the whole system in just two days! Matthew in particular worked with drywall and electrical contractors to make sure additional work was coordinated so the whole procezs was seamless. I was also pleased with the attention to detail. All exterior pipe work and wiring is neatly covered and has been run through the crawlspace. As I normally do I looked at Yelp to find a company to inspect & clean our furnace prior to winter (didn't wait till we needed the furnace to set an appointment, contacted them in August). Was pleased with the reviews for this company (have learned with reasonable accuracy to spot flawed or phony reviews) and contacted them. They were EXTREMELY responsive and came out in a couple of days and were easy to deal with from a payment perspective (unlike others who penalize you for using a card). The tech was very respectful of our CoViD rules, seemed to do a good & thorough job, and the price seemed very reasonable given the fact that he was there for several hours. He gave me a comprehensive assessment of our furnace's condition after and answered all questions. I figured we'd use them again for future repairs and annual maintenance. Why not 5 stars? (as with others, wish I could do 3 1/2) One thing I discovered hours after bugged me and my "bug" was confirmed today when we fired up the furnace for the first time this season. A few years ago we had the ducts cleaned which still had construction debris from 2008. That company (not BA NW) did a great job of sealing the hole they have to cut in the outgoing plenum to clean them with a sheet metal patch, foil HVAC adhesive tape, and screws. Nearly air tight. This guy removed the patch to clean and inspect, but used the removed tape to "reseal". It was all wrinkled and bunched up. After a few hours today it separated from the plenum and warm air was spewing into our uninsulated garage. So now I've got to make an unnecessary trip to the hardware store (as a senior at risk) to buy the tape and take the time to remove and replace the tape and screws. Seemed lazy for a guy who didn't seem lazy, but my guess is that his truck was out of the tape. read more
