The lobby was busy but they had plenty room for us. As we were ordering, the servers threw in some burnt ends from the brisket on the side They were amazing. The brisket was my favorite and moist. The pimento sausage was good and worth the try. The pork belly burnt ends were a bit dry. But the rest was perfect. They might have my favorite potato salad. Then the Brussels sprouts. We ordered the chicken, original and cheddar/jalapeño sausage, brisket, St. Louis style ribs, mac&cheese, Brussel sprouts, corn casserole, and cole slaw. My god. Everything. ALL of it was delicious. Chicken, moist. Turkey: my goodness, MOIST. Ribs, a bit too much "off the rib" for my personal taste but my partner loved it; still one of my favs of the day. Both Sausages 5/5 though I regret to say I forgot to ask about the sausage of the month. Brisket, awesome "bend test" and packed w flavor. Great alternative BBQ option if you are frustrated by the long lines from Terry Black's and Franklin BBQ. There was no line on Sunday at lunch time when we arrived and service was instant. Prices are very fair for the amount of food you get on a platter. We went for the 3 meat + 2 sides platter, added an additional side, and the server gave us a free portion of one side to taste. Here are the meats and sides in order of preference below. Meats: - Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage: I'm just as surprised as you are that the sausage made it at the top of my meats list, but here we are. The sausage was juicy and flavored perfectly. The jalapeño cheddar kind is a must! - Beef Brisket: had to make it to at least the middle of the pack. It was seasoned nicely and worked well with the provided bbq sauces. It wasn't the juiciest brisket I have had, definitely not the melting in your mouth kind, but was not dry either. - Pork ribs: was a bit underwhelming to be honest. You really get two very thin ribs and are working to scrape the measly amount of meat from the bones. I generally love ribs, but if we only got these ribs as our choice for the 3 meats, we would have left severely hungry. Sides: - Glazed Brussels Sprouts: this side stole the show as the best thing I tasted on the entire platter. It was perfectly sweet from the sauce, salty, and crispy. We drove another 20 minutes to Stiles Switch and were so glad we did. The restaurant's location is probably not the best part of Austin, and I was a bit skeptical based on the exterior. The colossal metal entrance door gives off a biker bar vibe, and I was a bit concerned as it opened. However, when the door opened, I was pleased to see an open-seating restaurant where you order, receive, and pay for your food at the same counter, similar to other BBQ joints in Texas. As we walked up, we were greeted by the manager, Jeff, who provided us with samples of sausage and turkey. The sausage was great, but I was most surprised by the moistness of the turkey. Juicy and flavorful, it was the best turkey I've ever had at a BBQ restaurant. I got a two-meat platter with brisket and sausage, a side of Brussels sprouts, and a corn casserole. OMG, the corn casserole is fantastic! The Brussels sprouts were delicious too, but hot damn, the corn casserole is so good. Was in town recently for the UT-UGA game and decided to undertake a BBQ tour of Austin and surrounds. Context: I grew up in TX and went to school in Austin. I've had plenty of BBQ both within and without TX. I did not try all of the spots that I wanted to this trip in Austin, notably missing out on Terry Black's, Interstellar, and LeRoy and Lewis, amongst others. I am judging BBQ relative to all other BBQ out there, not just vs TX-style or Austin BBQ. Stiles Switch was worth the wait in line. Superb food and a worthy inclusion into any BBQ fan's list of must-tries in Austin. Smoked turkey was great (8/10), brisket was excellent (8.5), and the St. Louis rib was out of this world (9.95/10), one of the best things I ate on my tour. Sides were very good.
