The side dishes alone are enough to bring me back. The chicken is so good. It's full of umami. The hotpot never failed to satisfy me. I'm here 3 times over the last 3 weeks.

B2J is a relatively new Chinese restaurant (late 2025) that focuses on a pickled seafood broth that is eaten with rice and numerous sides. It is located in the Crescent Shopping center off N. Lamar and Airport, arguably the "new Chinatown" of Austin. It's on the opposite end of the shopping center from the 99 Ranch, close to the Daiso. Parking in the Crescent center is tough overall with very tight spaces, but the corner that B2J is located in is a little better and there is also a few large spots right behind the restaurant. The interior is built out beautifully, although the inside is relatively small. I think it probably seats about 30 people and I've been surprised that in the few visits I've been, I haven't ran into any wait times. I think it's still relatively under the radar but would not be surprised if it blew up in popularity given what I'm about to say. The food - is amazing. The cornerstone of the meal is a thick savory broth that features either fish, beef, or both. You can choose from a few different broth options with the most traditional / popular being the Signature Spicy Sour. The flavor of the broth is rich but not overwhelming for being made with a fermented / pickled base. I've tried both the signature and tomato and both were fantastic. The tomato in particular was a hearty yet lighter option (non-spice) if you're feeling a bit under the weather, like Asian comfort food for the soul. All the sides I've tried have been spectacular - in particular, LOVED the Spicy Sour Fern Starch Noodles and Spiced Chicken with Chili Sauce. They have Combo options that list how many people it feeds and honestly, I'd add 50% to their estimates. For example, our Combo of 4 fed 6 of us with at enough leftovers for at least a few extra meals. Despite a heftier price point, once factoring in for the portion sizes, I'd say the average per person cost comes out closer to $15 - 25 depending on how extravagant of a meal you want. Family style is definitely the best way (and given the giant pot is shared) so bring a large group to really capitalize on the experience.

The restaurant is located at the far end of The Crescent Mall. There's a lot of traffic here and totally packed during the weekends, but during the weekdays, plenty of parking We've come to B2J when it first opened, and another time more recently. The lines were not as long as the first time, but might be because of the holidays The menu is fairly straightforward, and for both times we've been here, we've gone for the combo. This way, you can try out different appetizers and main dishes with add o The food is incredibly flavorful and hearty. The wings were super crispy, the noodles were light but full of flavor, and the soup was spicy and numbing, all things we loved about the food here. The staff is also very friendly and the service is fast. Would highly recommend trying this place out!

Loved this place for your sour soup needs!! It was a cold evening in Austin, and I was in the mood for some soup! B2J Tasty Pot is located in the 99 Ranch shopping center so parking can be a bit difficult. We were seating for two immediately - however its a small restaurant. There may be a wait if the place is packed. We ordered the combo for 2 and it was more than enough. We added oyster mushrooms (don't recommend cause I didn't like the taste) and bok choy to the signature soup with fish and beef. The fish and beef are so tender, I love how the meat cooks in the hot soup. For sides we got the fried pork belly and starch noodles. Both incredibly delicious with great flavor. I'm surprise how hot the soup stayed and it was so great for my gut and pregnancy. They service is top notch where they fill your water all the time. The food comes out super quick as well. Finally, we had the mochi for dessert. It's very creamy and delicious. They will pack your left overs for you in a nice, easy to carry containers. The food tasted fantastic the next day! Overall, highly recommend B2J Tasty Pot!

Came in on a chilly day and this was absolutely the best choice I made. We were seated promptly, the restaurant is a bit narrow (limited seating to parties of 4) so I would recommend coming right as they open if you can. They serve you tea or water- the hot tea had a nice aroma. We ordered their signature Spicy Sour (Sauerkraut Sichuan) POT dish with just fish and it was amazing! We chose the Combo for 2 and ordered 2 soup add-ons (cabbage & starch noodles - highly recommended these). The portion was HUGE and fed 3 people and we still had leftovers! The flavors were amazing, if you're not familiar with chinese pickled cabbage, it has this sour and sweet tangy flavor that combined so so well with the sichuan. It does have a kick and there's options for different broths/spice levels but I fell in love with the Original. I took my parents here and they are pretty difficult to please Asian parents when it comes to authentic chinese/viet cuisine & they LOVED it. The service was so attentive (I swear they refilled our teas +5x lol) and friendly. They were happy to explain the menu and make recs. We also did the free dessert special for Fresh Milk Mochi and I was so glad we did bc it was literally one of my favorite dishes. Everything was so good here: - Spicy & sour POT with fish - Crispy fried pork - Chicken Salad (it's comes cold) w Chili sauce Overall 10/10 experience, we're definitely coming back!

So glad there's a specialized boiled fish place in Austin! The menu is pretty easy to navigate - there are combos for groups, or you can order a la carte. My fiance and I got the combo for 2, though there was plenty food for maybe 3 people! Portions are very generous here. Food: The signature spicy soup flavor was delicious - perfectly tangy and the fish was so soft. The crispy pork was also a nice side, extremely tender bites and the spice mix for dipping was nice. The gizzard was refreshing and had some nice acidity and the perfect bouncy texture. Didn't try the beef option but would try next time! Hits the spot for spicy fish cravings. Service: We had a wait of maybe 20 min during a Friday dinner - it's not a large space so expect a wait during peak. They take your order before you sit during the busy times, so the food comes out quickly if you order at that time! They are super nice here tho! They package up any leftovers and hold the door for you - amazing service for a Chinese restaurant. Vibe: very cosy spot! Probably not ideal for large groups, but perfect table sizes for groups between 2-4. There's also a small bar seating area, but only enough space for 2 people there and it's a bit cramped.

B2J has been popping up all over my feed for their sauerkraut beef/fish and being a fan of this dish, I decided I must try it for myself. When I arrived around 12 PM I was a bit worried there would be a wait but my party of 4 got lucky and were seated when we walked in. I actually called the night before since I wanted to take advantage of their mochi promotion and was thinking it would be easier to order to-go. Pei Pei was super nice in answering my questions and even provided great options for those who can't tolerate spice such as ordering the tomato flavor or putting some protein on the side. She also suggested it would be best to dine in, and I guess she persuaded me as this is what we opted for. To order, you first choose your size/protein+soup base of Signature Spicy Sour Flavor, Szechuan Spicy Flavor, Vine Pepper Numbing Flavor, or Tomato Flavor. Then you pick your add on at $4.99 per choice and lastly you can add your choice of sides at $9.99 per choice. However, they also promote "best-value combos" which might save you a bit depending how much you feel like ordering. I opted for the Combo for 2 which included a small pot, 2 add-ons, 2 side dishes, 2 rice. We got the vine pepper numbing flavor with the wide stretch noodles and enoki mushrooms for the add on and the side dishes of crispy fried pork belly, takoyaki, crispy fried Chinese donut. I was a bit concerned the broth would be too sour/spicy but it actually wasn't, but if you wanted you could add extra Chinese sauerkraut. We chose both fish and beef and I was surprised how tender both of these proteins were. The only thing I wish was maybe removing the skin of the fish a bit more. In terms of side dishes I actually felt like these were even yummier than their entrée. I feel like they do an excellent job when it comes to frying their foods and the flavors were on point. I think the fried Chinese donut (you tiao) was actually the best I've had in Austin... Also, I highly recommend meeting the requirement to get their mochi as it was soooo good, like I licked the plate clean and would come back JUST to have it again.

This is a meal I'll keep coming back for! Definitely not a solo meal -- come with at least one or two others. Honestly the two person combo is enough for three. It comes with the largest bowl of fish soup I've seen plus two sides. Fish soup is of course great -- tender fish but also love that we can get the option to include beef. Comes with tofu and the sauerkraut and then we added in enoki mushrooms, lotus root, and tofu skin. We got crispy pork and fried milk -- both are excellent and the crispy of both is a great contrast to the soup. Both are great in their own right. They were also kind enough to provide a bowl of pork and rice for the toddler with us who did not eat the sauerkraut fish. The biggest surprise was the fresh milk mochi dessert... This was so fresh, so tender, so soft! Very different to any other mochi I've had. And it was covered with a bunch of crispy things that made the whole thing reminiscent of "milk and cereal". Absolutely order this dessert!!!!

I love that Austin has such an authentic Sichuan place now! I came with two friends, and we ordered their combo fish and beef stew. I will be honest and say that I really didn't like the stew, but it's also because I'm not a fan of eating sauerkraut like that. The first bite was quite good, but the constant pickled vegetable taste is not for me. I would've definitely preferred the spicy mala flavor, which is what I think I would order next time. We also got the crispy pork belly, which was delicious! My friends and I saw that the fried milk custard was popular, but we really didn't like it. The milk custard taste was really gross after a while, and I think they have better appetizer options. The cucumber salad was delicious and very refreshing. We also got their coconut mochi, and that's a must order! We loved the coconut and how cold the mochi was. Overall, I didn't enjoy this place as much as my friends did, but I can still recognize when a restaurant has very authentic flavors. Service was great, and food came out super fast despite how busy they were.

Welcome to Austin B2J Tasty Pot! I don't even remember what used to be in this space but I'm glad they've moved in. If you're a fan of the sauerkraut beef/fish at Bamboo House across the street, you'll be a fan of B2J Tasty Pot since it's essentially a "better" and more customizable version of it. Both the fish and beef were tender and I would definitely recommend getting both. For the add-ons, I don't think there were any "must gets" so just get whatever suits your fancy.

This was amazing!!! I don't know many places that do Chinese hot pot and this place does it so well! Plus the sides you can get are delicious. Highly recommend the fried pork belly. For dessert, definitely get the fresh milk mochi. The portions are large though so really try to decide how hungry you are first. We had the combo for 4 people (since we were four) and we struggled to finish with four sides, hot pot, add ons and rice.

My friend and I were able to secure a table for 2 on a Wednesday night at 5:30pm very easily when we walked into the beautifully decorated restaurant. We tried a jug of plum juice which was nice on the nose with an herbal aftertaste. We ordered a hotpot for 2 with a mild tomato base which came with 2 add ons and 2 side dishes, and 2 bowls of white rice. We choose meatballs and mushrooms for the add ins, and crispy pork belly and Chinese donut for the side dishes. The serving size was so huge that it could have fed 4 people. We couldn't finish it so they were able to pack it up in a reheatable disposable pot for me to take home. Pei Pei who helps manage the different B2J branches came to our table, made sure our food came out well and shared a bit about her role in helping ensure the restaurants are successful during the opening of their different locations. She brought us a sample of their spicy fish broth, and it certainly packs a punch. We had their milk mochi and it was so tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to bring a group of friends or family to if you love spicy hot pots.

We got the serving for 3 and it easily fed the 4 of us with the sides. It says mild spice but there was still a good amount of heat! The mochi dessert was delicious.

The cumin seeds give it that signature earthy, aromatic flavor and you get a slight tingly numbing spice sensation from the chilis and peppercorn. The lamb is not overly gamey, but it still does taste like lamb so if you are not really a lamb fan, I'd choose something else. - Jumping Fish: A very popular dish! Tender white fish fillets that is so soft it melts in your mouth. It is in a flavorful oil and broth that is refreshing from the fresh jalapenos. It is a savory dish, yet still relatively mild. It commes with napa cabbage as well! This was my favorite dish and I loved the flavor combined with the white rice. - Mapo Tofu (Vegetarian): They have one with pork as well, but I got the vegetarian version. Silky soft tofu cubes in that signature mapo tofu sauce and numbing peppercorns. Despite the appearance of all the dishes, none of them were very spicy. Overall, a comforting soft, spicy, savory dish with a slight tingle. - Eggplant in garlic sauce: A deliciously sweet and umami garlic sauce. The eggplants could have been a bit more cooked through in my opinion though since it was still quite firm. I loved it still! Note that all the dishes to me were not spicy just had an underlying subtle spice or tingle (like a finishing flavor note if you will). Also, since it is sichuan the dishes are on the oilier side. You order with the cashier at the front and pay up front as well. Food comes out quickly. It is a small space with three rows of tables (maybe around 12-15 tables give or take), so it does fill up fast. So here's a quick lil announcement though. The wait for the apps was short, but the wait for my main dish was 15-20 minutes I don't think my wait is Normally that long but just a heads up. This is the cost of cheap but great quality food. For the appetizers I got the spicy shrimp and the steam chicken dumplings. They both came out really hot so be careful lol. Man the spicy shrimp was very delicious and spicy! But not too spicy for me because I'm use to it but if you're not a spicy veteran this does have a good kick. I loved the sauce and the lettuce, which i used pieces of it to scoop and eat my shrimp in whole. This is a 5/5 recommend The dumplings came out in a pair for like 4-5 dollars I think. It was very hot and soft. The only thing tho was that the meat inside the dumpling was a lil dry compared to a lot of Asian restaurants I've tried BUT it tasted good and was flavor. 4/5. I got the Ox tail Beef broth soup and the Nasi Padang. The ox tail was very good, it has its spices but it's a simple soup with the meat, the potatoes and chopped up tomatoes all thrown into the bowl, with wontons. I used the side chili they gave me, lime into the soup. It was so much to eat for me including the rice with the bowl. Of soup was a lot. Because it was ox the price was a bit high so like 19 which is reasonable. The broth was great, it's simple yet very delectable. The Nasi Padang, was a curry based plate with two types of meat, shredded beef and chicken, two different curry flavors. One was sweet and the other was tangy which was different. It wasn't my favorite but the ox tail definitely beat it. Overall this place was really good and something yall should doif you wanna eat out on budget but good.

I was excited to see a collab between TSO and Black's BBQ, so I ordered the Black's BBQ Brisket Fried Rice. I was able to place my order in the app and my order was packed and ready to go during the pickup window time frame. The Black's BBQ Brisket Fried Rice contained long grain rice with vital farm's egg, peas and carrots, onions wok tossed with umami sauce (including mushroom soy and fish sauce) and Black's chopped brisket (lean and fatty mix). The Black BBQ sauce on the side was a nice touch. I enjoyed this fried rice dish very much and it exceeded my expectations. They also packed utensils and soy sauce. I plan to return here as it is close by my place of employment and offers a range of Chinese dishes for takeout and delivery.

We noticed this place is opening up soon really close to our house so we decided to see if it will be our new local favorite by trying their congress location. We were incredibly pleased with the quality and quantity of the food! Portions are GIGANTIC so know this going into your order - a portion can easily serve 2-3 adults (depending on hunger level and appetite). We got the drunken noodle and Singapore noodle and both were BOMB! Spicy, flavorful and saucy! Delish. We also got some fried pot stickers and they too were delicious. Highly recommend - it's especially great that in this economy they insist on no tipping.
