Located in the oldest shopping center in #centraltexas which also was used in the movie Dazed and Confused in the 90s where it appeared as The Emporium. The ribs both baby back and beef were delish, the brisket was nice and juicy, Mac was decent, the corn cake thing - that was DIVINE. And I like the chile relleno sausage but it didn't have much poblano flavor to it, wish there was more! The staff were nice.

Pretty good BBQ and good enough for me to come twice in a trip. Some sides are better than others, so the thing that knocks it down a star is consistency.

Perfect family joint for Texas BBQ vibes. Came with a big group 5 adults, 4 kids (all under 5). Was easy to get a big area for us and the kids loved watching the guys serve the food from the booth. Corn casserole was SO GOOD - like beyond what we anticipated. Perfect portion sizes and bang for our buck. This northerner enjoyed the sweet tea for sure.

Switch BBQ in Austin, Tx. Been to @stilesswitchbbq a few times over the past few years. Never too crowded, a great selection of items and a very homey atmosphere. Loved the burnt ends, might go light on the jalapeno in the Frito Pie if I ordered it again. Prices here are also exceptional and everyone is super friendly.

I came here with two fellow Longhorns and three Aggies before the Texas A&M at Texas game last Friday. When we went up to order, Longhorns got a burnt orange koozie and Aggies got a maroon one, a nice touch! Eric R. and I (the only split couple) shared a two meat plate with double brisket, mac n cheese, and corn pudding. We were also given a sample of pinto beans and serrano brussel sprouts. The plate was adorned with onions (raw and pickled), pickles, and jalapenos, plus topped with two slices of eggy bread and a side of BBQ jus. I got a topo chico as wel. At the table, there were other flavored, thicker BBQ sauces including balsamic and chile lime. I went with the chile lime and it was really good. As a Texan and brisket snob, I thought the brisket was really delicious! I enjoyed the sides but the brisket was indeed the star of the show. It was nice to have eggy bread and not boring white bread too. Eric R. also tried Carlie M.'s sausage and said it was good. I would like to return to try the beef rib when I know I could take some back or share it with more people. Hook em horns!

A+++ all around. Best brisket bark I've ever had; the spicy/peppery Ribs weren't far behind. Don't miss the Potato salad and Tater Tot Casserole -- It'll change your life.

Texas BBQ has a high bar and Stiles Switch is renowned for being a top tier spot comparable or close to the famous ones. I haven't visited those spots yet but have had Texas BBQ outside of Austin. Massive benefit is that wait times are drastically lower because everyone's too busy hyping up the other spots. Large parking lot, large indoor seating, and minimal wait. I snagged a beef rib because it's the thing you have to try when you're in town. They brought out two large ribs and gave me a choice. It was about $32/lb at this time and each rib is roughly in the 1.25lb range. First time here and you can get barbecue sauce, bread, pickles, onions, jalapenos, and pickled onions on the side. I wanted to order more but was slightly full from a bakery and coffee shop, so I wasn't actually sure I could finish the rib. I would've loved to try the brisket and compare it to previous experiences, but had to settle for one item. Beef Rib - it's truly as filling as it looks. I was expecting the meat to fall off the bone a little smoother but there was some friction. Still tender and delicious, there was a hefty amount of fat compared to meat which I felt could've been better balanced or better, more meat than full fat. My first bite was overly salty but after that, it was fairly balanced. These were just some small nuances but the overall experience was tender with fatty bits melting in your mouth.

I have been working my way through the central Texas BBQ joints. Fo the most part hitting the small joints outside of Austin . Today I was in the city and it was early so Stiles Switch here I come . I got the 2 meat plate with sides. Wow, I mean yowza wow. As I am speaking today these guys are #1 and at a whole top tier level . Brisket was outstanding, bark, smoke ring , tender, moist , a perfect 10. The one not to sleep on was the pork belly burnt ends. Honestly I could get a double order and eat until I got sick. Just go. Stand in line do the tradition and over order and over eat. Outstanding Texas BBQ.

We've been to Stiles n' Switch more times than we can count, and are so sad and a little shocked we haven't left a review until now! But this allows us to speak from multiple instances of experience! What keeps us coming back is the consistency. These folks do a hell of a job making sure there's plenty of every meat throughout the entire day, so when you show up craving something specific, you can actually order it. Everything from the juicy, flavorful turkey to the big, meaty beef ribs and the fall apart in your mouth brisket is always spot on! But it doesn't stop at amazing BBQ. They're constantly rolling out weekly specials and fun menu items: 1/2lb smoked burgers with wild new flavors like a fried mozzarella burger (totally delicious and worth the calories), chimichurri picanha, smoked prime rib, banh mi's, cheesesteaks, etc... You can get a traditional meat plate or an incredible sandwich, but they also keep giving you new reasons to come back. It's no surprise they land on the Texas Top 50 list every year! We've even had their bites at Texas Top 50 events and multiple Troubadour Festival, and they're always one of our standouts. They've mastered flavor, quality, and that perfect mix of traditional + creative. Inside, you get that classic Texas BBQ experience where you order at the counter, pick out your meats, grab a canned beer, if that's your vibe, and claim a table. And yes, they have dessert... and YES, the chocolate cake is our FAV! Another favorite thing they do each year is the 12 Days of Smoked Meats, where they roll out a different specials every day. Think collabs with Olamaie and El Dorado Café and wild creations like a chicken-fried beef rib. It's legendary and a MUST do! The service is always pure Texas hospitality. They greet you as soon as you walk in, help you figure out what to order if you need help, keep the tables clean, and make sure everyone is happy and full. We usually go right when they open and have noticed there's a solid local lunch crowd, but even if the line looks long, it moves fast. Whenever we have family in town, this is one of the first places we bring them... or we take them to their sister restaurant, The Switch in Dripping Springs, which is also A MUST! If you haven't experienced Stiles n' Switch yet, you're absolutely missing out. Our go to's are the brisket, beef rib, pork belly, and turkey (basically the entire menu) and if there's a monthly sausage, we always add that too. Even the fries are delicious! And don't skip the creative sides like the cucumber tomato salad, sweet serrano fried Brussels sprouts, or cheesy tater tot casserole! Stiles n' Switch is the real deal. Always has been, always will be!

I've been wanting to go to Stiles Switch this month for one specific reason: Pimento Cheese Sausage. They do monthly specialty sausages, and that one interested me the most. With the month almost over and no pimento cheese sausage yet, I made a buzzer-beater move and went on October 29. Stiles Switch off Lamar has a decent-sized parking lot with enough space to park even on a busy Wednesday night. Inside, Stiles Switch feels like a classic BBQ joint with wooden walls and LED signs across the building. One of the best parts of Stiles Switch is that they're open through the evening, so you can easily get a nice BBQ meal at dinner instead of on a Saturday morning. There was a decent line when we got in, but it moved steadily. Getting there at 6:45 pm, we were seated with our trays before 7 pm. The staff were very friendly and helped me get another stamp on my Texas Monthly Passport. After I got my tray, I realized there was practically nowhere to sit. There are plenty of tables, but it was quite busy. Luckily, a table had just opened up, and I was able to grab it. My cousin's fiancée ordered one of their specialty sandwiches while my cousin ordered the Wednesday prime rib plate. The menu has something for everyone. Here's a rundown of what I got: Brisket: Both the lean and moist cuts were great. They were tender and full of flavor. I ate all the brisket on my tray even though I thought I would explode; it was that good. Pork Ribs: The bark growled at me like a husky, and it was fantastic. It wasn't super noteworthy, but it was well done and worth the purchase. Pimento Cheese Sausage: This is what dreams are made of. It now sits high on my list of specialty sausages from all the different BBQ joints I've visited. It's not too spicy compared to hot links I've had, but the cheesy flavor really adds to the link. I was a big fan of it. It was also served with a side of pimento cheese and crackers, which the table got to enjoy. The pimento itself had a surprise kick that made it more flavorful and memorable. Tater Tot Casserole: I need this catered at my family's Thanksgiving. It's phenomenal and easily one of the best sides I've had so far in my BBQ journey. Brussels Sprouts: These also, shockingly, had a good kick to them, but they were glazed and heavenly. I always love sides like these at a BBQ joint because I'll always destroy them without a second thought. I keep going back to Stiles Switch because it's consistently high-quality yet still accessible compared to Austin's other heavy hitters. It reminds me of my hometown favorite, Stanley's in Tyler, and that is one of the highest compliments I can give. RIYL: A little bit of everything for everyone.

Hit Stiles Switch as we waited on a car service. The line was long but it went fast as the ordering was assembly line. The service was fast and even with the busy line, staff weren't overwhelmed and greeted us pleasantly. We weren't rushed as we asked questions about the menu. We ended up ordering the 3 meat plate (turkey, ribs & brisket) and had mac and cheese & cucumber tomato salad as sides. The meats are definitely the star of the order. All were flavorful. The portions were nice enough to feed the 2 of us. We were so glad that we both didn't get an entree. The sides were a bit lacking for our tastes but I'm sure they were great to other palates. The 3 meat plate was $31.00, which we thought was kind of steep. I think that most places that I have been to had different prices before and after a TM review. This is only my theory. I have never visited before but we assumed this is normal for this location and TM fame. With 2 drinks and tax, our total came to over $40. Overall the BBQ was pretty good and I'll definitely visit again if I'm nearby.

When we arrived late into our hotel, the front desk recommended a good BbQ place about 15 minutes away called Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew. We never heard of it before and so why not, let's see what Austin is about on being the best place for BBQ. I was searching reviews online like Yelp and this place was still great. They made the list of best barbecue previous years. This place didn't go by the pound to measure costs which can be confusing, so I was happy with normal ordering like I want ribs, Mac and cheese and roasted Brussels sprouts . Outside was an open small strip mall attached to one row of shops and parking outside was dirt, as it gave its nice atmosphere. When we entered it was wow! Long line along the sides of the building to the cashier, but line moved normally and you can see things they have on sale. You can read article on them being in Best barbecue magazine previously, so they are also well known when compare to many bbq places in Texas. After my first experience with real Texas bbq, I can easily say Texas is number one in my book and forget the other 49 states. I have never ate anything where everything tasted A+ from appetizers, sauce and meats! So tender and favorable! Ok sorry I am getting ahead of myself. But yes here is the photo of my food. Friendly service and always busy with one hour left before closing we made it! I am glad our Drury Hotel recommended this place to us. Our day one of visiting Texas in April 2025 and experiencing Texas Hospitality and excellent quality of food has been excellent!

As a recipient of the prestigious Texas Monthly Top 100 BBQ Award, the expectations were high--and for the most part, they were met. The venue itself provides a fantastic, relaxed vibe, complete with plenty of TVs and a music stage, making it the perfect spot for chilling out on a lazy afternoon or settling in for an evening hang. The Main Event: Pitmaster Excellence The true test of a Texas BBQ joint is the holy trinity, and here, they nailed the fundamentals: * Brisket: This was Texas BBQ as it should be. The brisket was super juicy, delivered a profound, deep flavor, and possessed a flawless, great bark that spoke to hours of skillful smoking * Spare Ribs: A study in contrast and texture. The ribs offered a satisfying "good pull"--firm enough to bite but still falling cleanly off the bone. The thick, peppery bark was beautifully balanced by a slight sweetness from a pepper jelly glaze, adding a layer of sophisticated flavor you don't always find. * Pork Belly Burnt Ends: These were pure decadence. Each bite provided a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth experience with a distinct and welcome hint of Fierce Whiskers bourbon woven into the smoky, fatty flavor. They are so rich and irresistible, you know you shouldn't eat too many, but good luck stopping. * Jalapeño and Cheese Sausage: This locally sourced link brought the heat with a good level of spice. The flavor was excellent, though the texture leaned slightly toward the processed side, which was the only minor drawback among the meats. The Supporting Cast: Sides A great plate of BBQ requires sides that stand up to the meat, and while two of these were stars, one needs a little work. * Mac & Cheese: An absolute winner. It was cheesy, creamy, and featured an excellent smoked flavor that permeated the dish. The slightly charred edges added a delightful textural counterpoint. * Hash Brown Casserole: This was a surprisingly strong contender, offering a nice assembly of savory flavors. The secret weapon was the corn flake topping, providing an unexpected but welcome crunch, complemented by a satisfying hint of bacon. * Creamed Corn: Unfortunately, this side was the weakest link. It tasted primarily bland, despite a slight peppery note. It desperately needs some fresh jalapeños mixed in to cut through the creaminess and add the essential Texas kick. Final Verdict The meat selection here is truly Top 100 worthy, excelling in technique, flavor, and execution (especially the Brisket and Burnt Ends). The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed gathering. While the Creamed Corn missed the mark, the stellar Hash Brown Casserole and Smoked Mac & Cheese prove that their side game is usually strong. Come for the high-quality, authentic Texas barbecue, stay for the great outdoor patio.

This spot was close to my hotel, and on my departure day, I decided to have one last hit of Q. It's a big restaurant, and it appears to also be quite the music venue. When I went, a little on the early side for a Friday dinner, there was not a wait and I was sat immediately. My server was attentive, and got me in, fed, and back out in plenty of time to catch my already delayed flight. I ordered their 3 meat combo plate, which also came with two sides, and added on a piece of cornbread. I chose brisket of course, as well as turkey and sausage. The server recommended the serrano pepper spinach (like a creamed spinach) and onion rings, and I took those recs. The best of the three meats was the turkey. Not a good sign. It was moist and tender, though not particularly smokey. Even so, I enjoyed it more than the brisket and sausage, which I would have guessed the reverse when ordering. The brisket was on the dry side and kind of bland, it did not smack of being freshly carved. The Stubbs BBQ sauce helped me eat some of it... now I see why they are famous for their sauce. I had a couple bites of the sausage and pushed it aside, I didn't enjoy their recipe on that at all. It was cooked seemingly well, but the blend of spices and meat they use wasn't pleasant to me. The sides, the onion rings were very crispy which I like, but again... something in the batter. Maybe even the oil they were cooked in, I did not enjoy as much. The spinach was actually quite enjoyable, maybe even a little rich. I think if it were warmer, if might help milden out some of that. It was really thick. The cornbread wasn't worth the add-on. No sweetness or anything to make it memorable. Vessel for butter. The portion was massive, and I had leftover food, but did not take it... and that would have been the case even if I wasn't headed to the airport. I wouldn't recommend this spot.

When I tell you these ribs were a religious experience I am not embellishing. Take this review as someone who really enjoys BBQ (and any slow cooked meat for that matter) but who could not list more than 10 BBQ restaurants they have eaten at in the last 5 years. So the beef ribs. Great texture, tender meat but still had a bite to it. Expertly seasoned so they were not wet with sauce but still moist. I would consider 1 beef rib a snack, 2 a small meal. I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. You order at the open kitchen and then pay at the counter when your food is ready. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, you can take your food and sit at any of their tables of which they have many (this place is pretty big). That is the longest weve ever waited for bbq, BUT SO WORTH IT! I do not ever order brisket because it's usually disappointing, dry and bland. However, this brisket was none of those things. It was everything a brisket should be!!! The other meats were delicious as well. The banana pie was incredible, the crust tasted almost like a cookie crumble. The potato salad is more of a mustard base, and cole slaw isn't too wet but I filled up on everything else and didn't eat much of it. After we finished eating, we even got a tour of the smokers! They are on a rotation, always smoking brisket and rotating staff to keep watch over it, and they use post oak wood. The staff were all so precious and friendly. My family thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would totally stand in line again :D

This order was delivered to us for a catering event. The ordering process was smooth and efficient…read morewhile also being delivered at the scheduled time. For fifteen people, the total cost was $425.69. This included delivery costs and taxes, but no tip. It consisted of three meats, two sides, and a dessert along with pickles, onions, bread, and BBQ sauce. There was also a set of utensils delivered, but plates were forgotten, but not a big deal. Brisket - This was definitely the best item eaten of the day. It was tender and juicy while adding the BBQ sauce giving that extra bite. The BBQ sauce was great regardless, a little bit of sweet and smoky flavor going on. Pulled Pork - This was another solid meat choice. I did not think it was as tender as the brisket, but it was still enjoyable especially with that BBQ sauce, which was key throughout the meal. Sausage - This was not bad. The snap on this threw me off a little, but it was not too bad. They were large links and had plenty of flavor. Gouda Mac & Cheese with Smoked Bacon - This was actually penne pasta with little pieces of the bacon. I actually preferred this pasta choice here. It really soaked up the cheese sauce. The sauce was not too over powerful and was just right. Beans with Smoked Bacon - These were not too bad. I thought they were a little liquidity, but the added bacon pieces definitely helped. Banana Pudding - This came in individual cups, which was nice. The pudding was thick with a little meringue or whipped cream present and a few wafer cookies on top. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.
