I visited Wingzup two months ago for the first time and it was an amazing experience. The wings were cooked perfectly and there were so many good sauces. I returned last Sunday (Super Bowl Sunday) for lunch to see if my good experience was an anomaly or a pattern. The good news is, Wingzup is consistently excellent. I would be remiss if I did not recognize the service at this restaurant. Wingzup sits in the casual market segment for restaurants, but their customer service is on par with fine dining. Stephanie and Vicki helped me out this time and provided my wife and me with wonderful service. This service was in spite of the restaurant cooking over 5,000 wings for takeout for the big game. It was a constant flow of people picking up orders from a few dozen to a few hundred wings. Despite these drop in guests nobody in the dining room ever waited for anything. I was encouraged to try their grilled wings after my Google review. Customers said they are so good...and they did not lie. I got mine naked and got four sauces to dip them in, plus blue cheese. I loved the Sweet Chili and the Habanero Ranch the first time and got them again. Also the medium Buffalo. Stephanie suggested the Mango Habanero and it was on point. This place has the feel of a hole-in-the-wall beer pub that specializes in bar food, particularly wings. I stopped in and ordered the fried mushrooms, fried pickle slices, and both garlic parmesan and plain wings. The fried mushrooms were battered and fried well, but they were enormous. Unfortunately, size didn't translate to flavor. They were mostly just large breaded mushrooms without much seasoning or taste, and I wouldn't order them again. The fried pickle slices, on the other hand, were excellent. They were crispy, flavorful, and even had a nice little kick at the end that kept me reaching for more. As for the wings, they reminded me of the mushrooms in one key way--they were cooked perfectly but lacked flavor. The texture was great, and they were fried just right, but I expected much more seasoning, especially from the garlic parmesan variety. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but it didn't quite live up to the price point. With portions and preparation this good, I was hoping for flavors that packed a bigger punch. While there were a few highlights, particularly the fried pickles, I'm not sure I'd rush back unless I heard about a standout menu item worth trying. read more

Well, it's been a hot minute since we've been back to Wingzup (almost ten years!) but Sunday was the day. We actually went to try Chicken Salad Chick, but they were closed, so here we were. And wow! Did they add, like, 20 more TV screens to the place?? It felt like we were in a war room. A bit much. Our server was a very nice woman who was on top of our table. We got beers (because: wings) and the fried buffalo wings with the korean fried wings. The buffalo ones were not crispy enough, so that was a bummer, but still, fine. We loved the korean fried ones, but they were more just like mini fried chickens as opposed to the traditional korean version (also, we did not appreciate the sticky sauce that it came out with). Our daughter was happy with her chicken nuggets. The only major party foul was the fact that our waffle fries came out cold, so we asked for new ones, and those were definitely not in the fryer long enough and they were scorching. Basically, we got what we were expecting when we came here. So, hope still springs eternal in the world of wings. Three stars, same same. read more

I had heard so much about the spot that we finally had a chance to go while we were in town! The wings were really good, not just pretty good, but they truly hit the spot. Ordered lemon pepper wings (5)which were described as a wet rub, which doesn't make any sense, again trying to be different. It seemed like when it came down to the seasoning part they struck out or the shakers were on house arrest and wouldn't come out. I don't know what happened but I'm disappointed to recommend this place to friends coming in from out of town. The service was spotty, with incorrect orders that when we brought it up, the waitress wanted to argue with us about it. The wings were tiny and dry and too overly sauced. Wingzup has been on my list because I've heard some people rank it as the best wings in Austin! I thought it was really good, but I think calling it the best really just depends on your preference. Because it's really good, but I think I'll always prefer Korean fried chicken over the traditional American style wings. That being said, I love how there are so many different styles of wings! I'm used to just seeing traditional and boneless, so things like country style and golden intrigued me. And I already knew grilled and smoked would be good. We ended up sharing the 15 wing sampler tray with 1) country style wings with jalapeño honey mustard 2) golden style wings with raspberry chipotle BBQ and 3) traditional style with lemon pepper. Part of me wishes the wings were tossed in the sauce, but I also really appreciate being able to taste the wings on their own, as certain styles already have a marinade. As well as being able to mix and match sauces and styles. And ensuring maximum crisp on the wings. I really loved the jalapeño honey mustard. But the lemon pepper and raspberry chipotle bbq were both so flavorful too. The golden style was probably my favorite. I almost always prefer fried chicken over any other kind. And this delivered! The batter was so crispy, but also super light. But country style was a close second. But they were all good and juicy, and decently sized! The workers were all super friendly, and while they didn't check in on you much, it was always easy to flag someone down when you needed to. I've eaten here about three times over the last 10 years and the wings have been consistently great. There's so many flavors and styles it'll take me a while to try them all. On my last visit I ordered the wing sampler with original, golden, and smoked. The smoked ended up being my favorite of those, followed by golden. Jalapeno honey mustard is fire, but the Ghost BBQ was truly fire, and by that I mean waay too spicy for me! I think the third flavor was raspberry chipotle BBQ, which was solid. I've had other flavors in the past but don't remember which ones. Wings were good sized as well. Service though was weird. One female server was hustling nonstop with a great attitude, but the other guys were painfully slow. I had to wait 10 minutes just to be acknowledged for a pickup order. When I walked in I noticed a lot of people were just getting off work or on lunch break. I ordered the 10 piece wing, spicy ranch and lemon pepper with garlic parm fries. I'll admit that I overlooked Wingzup for a while as the name sounds similar to a chain, but after seeing a number of recommendations I realized this is a local establishment open for many years, who have won several awards for their wings. Checking them out on NFL Sunday, it's a sports bar with TVs in every direction. The beer selection is quite good, and the simple cocktails are well priced. The wing menu is expansive with six types and over 20 sauces. The reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that I actually wasn't a huge fan of the wings, especially the smoked wings which seemed to clash with the raspberry chipotle BBQ sauce. The golden wings were better, although I'm not really sure what the difference is between golden and original wings, it mentions a marinade? It was also weird that the golden wings were dry with a dipping sauce instead of tossed. This place is definitely one of my top favorite wings place! I've been meaning to come here for months now and finally went this weekend and food was GREAT. They were actually voted for best wings in Austin, so definitely worth checking them out. You walk in and you sit wherever you want, server will come up to your table and take your order (keep in mind) they do get busy and may take a little while to get your food order, but hey it's a sports bar so watch a game while you wait patiently :) There is TVs all around and the staff is really nice. Pretty calm the night I went but great place to watch sports! The margarita swirl was gooood, pretty strong (not that strong) but enough for a slight buzz. & you can't go wrong with a mug of beer The fried pickled spears 5/5, nice and juicy, great fried crisp to them. The cheese fries 4.5/5, IMO I like a saucy cheese rather than shredded BUT these were really good! The waffle fries were really good tbh. The wings 'n burger basket with teriyaki wings 4.5/5, the burger lacked a bit of flavor and does not come with pickles. Only the cheese :/ The 10 piece (mild and spicy lemon pepper) 5/5, the dry rub took me by surprise. Such a good combo, never had a good spicy lemon pepper rub. Ranch dressing 5/5, it's up there with the wingstop ranch if you ask me not as liquid-y though bit more thick. Overall, I WILL BE BACK. The wings here are delicious! There is a lot to try and we really enjoyed the Golden wings with and without the various sauces. We appreciated our server Jax who was incredibly communicative and explained the menu process well. She was helpful with any questions we had and subsequently made sure to tip her well. Wings were pretty good!! We ordered online for take out and it was packed when I went to pick it up which is a good sign. Service was good, I was taken care of almost immediately and other employees made sure I had everything I needed while I waited. Realized our order was wrong when I got home but it seems more a system issue between what prints on the receipt and what is selected online rather than human error. The waffle fries are delish and so is the mystery dark sauce we got (i think it's Jamaican jerk???). I entered and knew this would become my go to when I am craving wings immediately. It was still before 5 o clock and I know it would be slow. The bar was half-full with 20 something year olds and I couldn't wait to get my hands on some poutine (I've been craving it for over a year now). I ordered that with an Italian frozen margarita. Amazing experience. I live close by to this location, but I have never really been there before. The service was really good, our server was knowledgeable about the menu and was very attentive the entire time we were there. The atmosphere was really nice, we went in after 9 PM, and there was a lot of commotion over a game on the TV, it's a nice spot to come with friends. I ordered the 10 wing combo, with jalapeño ranch and spicy lemon pepper, the spicy lemon pepper was bomb. My favorite thing that I ordered. The fried pickles were very delicious too, as were the fries. If you are going to order wings from here, you have to get the Golden. They are so much better than their normal wings. They're crispy and juicy. We ordered takeout and had to sauce them ourselves which was okay but the lemon pepper sauce was more buttery than lemon peppery. The blue cheese is really good but the ranch is meh. We've only ordered takeout here so I can't speak on the table service. The ambiance is your typical sports bar. The inside isn't very big. FYI- They don't show UFC PPV here, at least not when we came but you can always call them just to confirm. read more

I had been here a few times but had never ordered the wings. The burgers, poutine, and fried stuff were great. Today I got the boneless wings, which were very disappointing. They were overcooked to the point of being chewy. If this place has been voted best wings in Austin, either they have gone way downhill or were having a very off night. These wings are so bad that they're going in the trash. Update: I am downgrading from two stars to one. I sent a message to the restaurant last week, but they have not responded.
