We were in Austin and through my yelp research I was able to find this restaurant. I was thoroughly impressed with the food and I highly recommend visiting if you find yourself in Austin. The restaurant is clean and spacious and you order by scanning a QR code. The waitress was friendly and she brought us water fairly quickly. The garlic Parmesan fries are a must order and they were expertly fried and had a spectacular crunch and texture. The garlic was very balanced and not overwhelming, and they were super generous with the amount of Parmesan. The chicken wings were also equally amazing with a super crunchy, light batter, well seasoned chicken and the sauces were delectable. I really liked the honey garlic Parmesan because it is unique and not something I've had before. The sweet soy was also nicely balanced and paired well with the wings. The Ruma's chicken crispy pops was good, but I wish the pieces of chicken were slightly bigger so that the ratio of batter to chicken would be less overwhelming. We took a short road trip to Austin for a long weekend and ended up at Hi Wings for a late lunch on a Saturday--so glad we did. We called ahead and were told no reservation was needed. Walked in with a party of four and were seated quickly with no issues. There's no physical menu; you order via QR code on your phone, which I didn't mind at all. Maybe it's a new thing because I'm seeing photos of physical menus all over the Yelp reviews. The system asks whether you want to keep your tab open or close it--we chose to close it since we knew we weren't ordering more. That means you prepay and tip upfront, but honestly, I liked being able to finish eating and just leave without waiting around for a check. It is always weird tipping before anything comes service but that's just the way it is at some places. Now the food... wow. Everything was close to perfection. The fries were incredible--piping hot, super crispy, and perfectly seasoned. If you love garlic, you'll be very happy. I'm not even a big Parmesan fan and still thought they were great. The spicy chicken pops were a pleasant surprise and reminded me of a really good General Tso's chicken--definitely not Sichuan or mala, in case that's what you're expecting. It was a tad too sweet for me but overall, great flavor. Not a hint of being bland. And the wings--if you haven't had legit Korean-style fried wings before, this place will absolutely spoil you. Crispy, flavorful, and just excellent. Blazing hot (temperature, not spicy.) Yes, everything is a bit on the pricey side, but in my opinion, it's worth it. Expect to pay $2 per wing. This was a great small business spot. I enjoyed the simplicity and yet delicious food they had here. The waitress was very friendly and alert whenever we needed anything or had any questions. I decided to try the moknae's chicken gizzards. I enjoyed it as I enjoy fried chicken gizzards in general. I also tried the ruma's chicken crispy pops. This was so delicious. The full portion can honestly feed 6 adults lol. It was huge. I definitely recommend it. My kids don't like spicy but they definitely ate this too. The Parmesan fries were great too. I recently tried Hi Wings with a pick-up order, and while I gave them a 3-star rating this time, I'm definitely planning to go back. I'm a garlic lover, but this was a bit overwhelming. Next time, I'll ask them to ease up on the garlic. We got the garlic parm tots and even though I liked them, the oil they were fried in had had the tots tasting a bit off...like...they took on the flavor profiles of everything else fried in the same oil. So I wish they'd fry both the fries and tots in separate oil. Oh well... I also wish for just a few more healthier options on the menu to balance out the overwhelming number of fried options. Even the Brussels sprouts were fried. They have two salads that are healthy-ish, but the ingredients are almost identical, loaded with shredded cheese. Meh. Probably one of my favorite spots to get Korean fried chicken! The skin is so crispy and saucy at the same time. And the meat is so juicy. And they bring it out while it's still pretty hot so it's so satisfying to just eat it right away. I also love that they provide gloves so you can just get in there with your hands without feeling too gross. Sweet soy is a pretty classic flavor which I would definitely get again. But the peach habanero, while delicious, was a little spicier than I expected so beware lol. I also love how they have so many sides and starters, but practically everything is something fried so it can feel a little heavy. I'm so upset at myself for not coming to Hi Wings sooner when I literally live like five minutes away from this restaurant. I came with my partner on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly empty at this time, but I believe we came at an in-betwen hour which is why it was so empty. Only reason why I say this is because I had been eyeing their honey biscuits from their Yelp biz page and they were already sold out for the day. Our server was working the front and ushered us to a booth which were all separated by plexi glass. Gaved it a bit of a premium table service which I was all about. In order to enjoy your food and drinks you'll place your order by scanning the QR code at the table. We probably spent about ten minutes exploring the menu making final decisions and it was so nice to not feel rushed or make a rash decision because the server was waiting on you. Our appetizers consisted of their fried mozzarella and garlic tator tots. The garlic related items are no joke here and I was in love with how garlicy everything was. You'll need mouthwash afterwards but who cares! What really stood out to me though was the transparency about the time it takes to prepare their signature hot dish. We were told it'd take 30 minutes for their award winning Lulu's hot chicken with cheese. The dish had some serious spice that you can even smell it as it's served to your table. My partner said it was well worth the wait! If you ever see those cheese pull commercials for pizza, this was one of the few times where the cheese pull looked like movie magic. I opted for their wings and enjoyed their sweet and sour flavor and garlic lovers. Both were divine and I'm definitely coming back for them. We got the tater tots, spicy chicken, peach habnero, and spring onion chicken. The tater tots here are AMAZING. So delightfully crispy and the sprinkling of seasoning was perfect. My favorite chicken was the peach habanero but all of the flavors were pretty solid. The chicken is tender and juicy and the skin is still crispy despite being drenched in sauce. The only thing was that the spring onion chickens sauce felt a little light and I couldn't tell what the flavor of it was.
