I wanted to try their rice bowls after hearing praises about it. I opted for the brisket. It was so good! All the flavors from all the components balanced out well. I liked the pomegranates! I wish the nuts were a little smaller though (it was a little difficult to eat with everything else going on) and that there were more pieces of brisket. It was hot, so I decided to eat inside the bar + they have soda you can buy. The bbq definitely lives up to the hype!
Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in] We placed an online order for pickup on a Saturday and the earliest available time was 2 hours out. A couple of things to note: they charge a 10% online order service charge and a 3% credit card surcharge. When I got to the pickup window they asked if I wanted the food to go or dine in, and we chose to dine in so we could eat it fresh. They had to go containers available at the truck if you needed them. The portions looked small but were actually pretty filling. 1/2 lb Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs ($17): Came with 2 ribs that were okay. They were a little dry and lacking flavor on their own but tasted much better dipped in the pomegranate barbecue sauce. Combo Rice Bowl ($20): Came with mediterranean yellow rice, baladi salad, sauce, protein, cinnamon candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. For the combo, you get to choose 2 proteins. I went with brisket and kofta (ground beef and lamb). Both were really good but a tad salty so the baladi salad helped balance that out. Egyptian Cowboy ($15): I chose lamb for this and it was the star of the show. The pulled lamb shoulder was incredibly tender and flavorful. The smoked mac and cheese was really good too but the rich bechamel was a bit much for us. The sumac pickled onions helped balance out the heaviness of both the mac and cheese and the lamb shoulder. Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding ($9.50): Pricey for rice pudding but I wanted to try the unique flavor. It was light but the cardamom flavor was strong. Interesting to try once but I wouldn't order it again.
Such an unassuming food truck, but don't let that fool you. This spot is a hidden gem! Michelin rated, high quality BBQ. Love the Egyptian twist. The flavors of everything were spectacular. Stand out was definitely the mediterranean rice. I would have never thought to mix BBQ with rice, but this works. The soft tender meat with the delicious sides makes the perfect bite. Delicious meal!
This Egyptian BBQ food truck was so good and such a unique find. We got the brisket bowl, the cowboy mac and cheese with brisket, and the pork ribs, and everything was delicious. The brisket bowl was definitely the standout for me. It was so different from anything I've had before--it even had cranberries in it--but all the flavors came together perfectly. The cowboy mac and cheese with brisket was really good too, but I'd probably get the bowl again next time. The pork ribs were the best bite of the whole meal. They fell right off the bone and were so soft and tender. We split everything between two people and were completely stuffed by the end. Such a fun spot.

It's a simple looking black food truck in a busy parking lot, and the day I came was a Saturday when it was raining fairly heavily. Despite that, the lot was mostly full but there were a few spots available. There were about 5-6 people in line ahead of me and a few others still waiting for their food. I ordered the pita which you can request to do 1/2 and 1/2, so I got 1/2 brisket and 1/2 kofta. The kofta was certainly unique but I didn't like it as much as the brisket which was absolutely delicious and prepared so well. It comes with cubed marinated veg and a yogurt sauce to pour on if you get take away. I also ordered the cardamom pistachio rice pudding because I love those flavors and it was very smooth, not too sweet, and easy to eat. I'd love to go back to try the Dum Ali sometime. Overall absolutely would rec a visit to KG if you like bbq, the Egyptian flare to it is super cool and it's delicious! The staff are also so friendly.
Earlier this month, I arrived at KG BBQ early when there was no line and ordered the Lamb Bowl, Mediterranean rice, pulled lamb shoulder, baladi salad, (classic Texas buttermilk with roasted beet puree, fresh dill, jalapenos, and celery), tahini, candied nuts and pomegranate seeds and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, I was able to have a little chat with KG and I told him about my dissatisfaction with the Lamb Chop as it was a little too rare for my satisfaction and he explained that the Lamb Chops are grilled medium-rare, like a steak and that I should try the Lamb Bacon Ribs. Well, the other day, I ordered the Lamb Bacon Ribs with their chimichurri on the side and I was not disappointed. I definitely plan to return to feast on my favourite, the Za'atar and Pomegranate Pork Ribs.
Food is amazing. Mac and cheese is great. My go to is the lamb shoulder rice bowl with either their iced coffee or iced hibiscus depending on my mood. Dinner can be tricky because meats start selling out late in the day. Parking is sparse. Plenty of outdoor seating with shade and fans so nice even on hot days. Lines can be long at peak times.
One has to respect anyone who fuses near middle eastern flavors with Texas bbq so well. The smoked lamb chops and chimichurri style sauce are phenomenal. The brisket bowl the most creative and memorable brisket dish I've ever tasted Can't wait to try more when I return 5/5 would go out of my way to visit
The most unique bbq I've ever had with an incredible combination of flavors and cultures, this is a must stop when visiting Austin! The rice bowls are truly one of the most unique things I've eaten, every bite is a mix of flavors and textures that complement each other so well. And that Mac and cheese, omg the Egyptian spices add to the rich cheese sauce and leave you wanting another bite. Not your typical Texas bbq, but a good change up that's a must try!
I've been waiting to write this review. I can't seem to find the right words when it comes to this location. First off, it's in a parking lot. Very convenient to find, not to overly busy at the time that we went. We ordered a ton of stuff. We got pretty much the whole menu and boy did it not disappoint. It's a very quaint space with picnic tables and you share it with others so that was really fun to mingle around. Now the food - I absolutely love the flavors they had on all of the items! We got the brisket, za'atar pom glazed pork ribs, lamb chops, cowboy Egyptian mac n cheese, sumac cinnamon lamb shoulder aaaaand the cardamom pistachio rice pudding... MY GOODNESS it was delicious. The flavors are so unique, it's nothing I've ever experienced. Highly highly highly recommend, 10/10
Yum! I've wanted to try this spot for awhile. The line goes by quickly. We went on a Sunday and got there 13 mins after opening and waited about 30 mins in line. Ordering was fast and easy. The food didn't take long to be prepared either. We had a whole arrangement of food but I have to say if you are in between lamb shoulder or the chops. GO LAMB SHOULDER. It was so so good! The brisket melted in my mouth. I really enjoyed the rice bowl. I have to say if I'd go again that's a must. Everything in the bowl works so well together. The hibiscus mint tea, delicious! The ambiance is good you can sit outside the brewery or inside. It's shaded. They also have a small play area for toddler aged kids along the side. Parking seems tight but we didn't have an issue.
ABSOLUTE BANGER OF TX BBQ! Here's why: Arrived at 11:05AM to beat any possibility of a crowd; still wasn't the first customer, but definitely in the TOP 5. For my order, I got an order of the Za'atar & Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs ($17), 1 Lamb Chop ($9.50), and an Egyptian Mac n' Cheese (made COWBOY - added smoked brisket) ($15). Total came to $41.50. First of all, the space is spacious! There are two areas for eating outside --- and although I never went "inside", I did see a building with people going in-and-out of, I assume that's part of the establishment as well? A good amount of fans to keep you comfortable during your stay which is a nice touch. Let's go to the food: I had to give the mac n' cheese the first try --- I've been disappointed too many times before. LOVED IT! First of all, KG BBQ use shells for their mac, and it's not just "queso" --- its seasoned, has some tomato in it, and when it's made "Egyptian" --- you add that beautiful amount of brisket and sauce which just enhance the whole dish. The ribs were also phenomenal. They were fall off the bone tender, but not fragile in any way. The marinade was amazing, and topped with pieces of pomegranate and served with some spiced onions, it's the COMPLEXITY. Often times with TEXAS BBQ, it gets heavy quick. Having these contrasting yet complimentary flavors just makes you want to eat more! It's a complete sensory experience, visually, smell, and taste. The famous lamb chop was also amazing, and served with a little herb concoction on the side that is again --- needed --- to cut through the richness of the meat and fattiness. I've heard some complaints from food bloggers which is valid: there is a good amount of fat on each of these chops, so you better SAVOR the meat on that chop! It'll be done in a few bites! Only feedback? Food temp. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't hot either. In any case, I was thoroughly pleased by KG BBQ and you should definitely pay a visit! read more
We were on the hunt for the best barbecue in Austin and heard wonderful reviews about KG BBQ. When we arrived at the address, the sign for KG BBQ wasn't immediately visible. We parked and headed toward the food truck, and it turned out to be a fantastic find! Today, we tried the lamb chops, pomegranate pork ribs, salad, and cardamom pistachio rice pudding. The lamb chops were a bit mild in flavor, but the pomegranate pork ribs exploded with taste, definitely surpassing Stiles Swirch. The salad was a bit salty and looked like it was prepared the day before. However, the highlight was the cardamom pistachio rice pudding--I could enjoy that all day long! read more
KG BBQ is located in a food park area next to a bar/restaurant. Parking can be a bit difficult as most places in Austin TX. You walk up to a food trailer and wait in line to order. Place your order, pay and they give you a pager that will light up and buzz when your order is ready. The brisket was good as was the sausage but the lamb chops were the best. Yes, 3 stars, hear me out. KG BBQ is a great example of hype over quality. That hype comes from the new flavors they push in their Texas/Egyptian fusion. That's notable but the execution is disappointing. The entire menu leans sweet just by reading it - pomegranate, cinnamon, buttermilk, yogurt, etc - and tastes very sweet once you dive in. Their table BBQ sauce, while thankfully not needed, is objectively a sweet sauce. Adding it to any meat is a mistake because it's flavor overwhelms any cut. That compounding sweetness in the glazes, rubs, and sauce removes nearly all savory and salty quality essential to Texas BBQ. Some of the meats, like the brisket, even taste neutral or bland due to conflicting sweet and savory components. That's not to say the cooking is bad. The quality of each meat is solid but it can't be fully appreciated. A silver lining here is that the non BBQ selections are nice. Having a fully vegetarian rice dish a lovely touch, and the pita is way better than standard white bread. Whatever you order, it does come out shockingly fast meaning the line moves quickly. You should visit to understand the fame, but it's not one you'll be excited to visit again. Nothing is bad and nothing is overly good. It's "perfectly fine" in the same way a disappointed spouse would convey the sentiment. read more

We had a short weekend trip to Austin and our flights were significantly delayed due to the incoming winter storm. We arrived at KG around 5 pm and the pork ribs and lamb bacon ribs were sold out. We tried half a pound of sumac and cinnamon rubbed lamb shoulder. The meat was very tender and juicy. It came with a small side of chimichurri, yogurt, onions, and pita bread. There is outdoor seating with a cover but it was leaking. The temperatures were also dropping so we did not stay for long. We would love to revisit and try their own items. read more
KG was the biggest disappointment of our Austin Barbecue Safari--and it's a Texas Monthly Top 50 joint. We ordered brisket and pulled lamb (their specialty). Both were overcooked and dry. We didn't bother to finish either dish. You order at a trailer window, wait for your order, and then sit on picnic benches that are shared with a local craft brewery. Of the 11 places we tried during the weekend, this was our least favorite. read more

If y'all have NEVER tried KG BBQ chicken rice bowl .... RUN and get your self one! I never thought you could elevate bbq chicken but seriously this bowl is like a treasure bowl with hidden nuggets of gems in every bit. You get sweet, salty, sour, freshness, smoky, crunchy, tart, creamy, and everything and more in a rice bowl! Smokey and beautifully juicy seasoned chicken, fluffy seasoned rice, creama, cucumber, tomatoes, golden raisins, pomegranate, cashews, pickles red onions, and more. First glance is a weird combination but don't judge a book by it's cover because it's an elevated dish and it different flavor profile in every bite. It was so good I seriously finish my chicken bowl ans went back to order another one to take home! Left overs still taste phenomenal! Do I recommend this place? Who wouldn't? Yes! No long lines like other touristy bbq places in Austin. If there is a line, it goes really quick. The food is made fresh every day and they have a efficient system going. There's plenty of tables outdoor ans inside the brewry. Inside rhe brewery you can watch games. Next door is a gaming place that we don't check out but maybe one day! A bold take on Texas-style BBQ that has an Egyptian influence to it which is a great idea. Although the pomegranate ribs were flavorful, it was a bit overcooked. The potato salad however was elevated in depth since it tasted creamier and a more acidic but slightly less tangy flavor compared to the usual potato salad. The cucumber salad was refreshing, but it's whatever. Too bad it's only possible to order meat by at least 1/2 lb or more which is inconvenient as a solo diner or even two people with smaller appetites. read more

Firstly I didn't expect KG to be a food truck. Secondly, Egyptian + BBQ = Classic with a twist. I got the brisket (because it's my go to BBQ meat, so I have to order). I also got a rice bowl with lamb (might as well do traditional BBQ if you aren't going to try something new). The texture of the rice bowl (10/10), flavors (10/10), amount of meat in the bowl = happily surprised. Easy recommendation!! Would go back. read more

I've been wanting to come here for a few months and came around 5 on a Saturday night. Our line was around 15 minutes. We ordered: -pork ribs (amazing and we had the last ones by 5 pm ish. ) -lamb chops (soo thick and juicy!) - brisket (average) - lamb links (pricy and has a kick) -buttermilk salad (very interesting) - Egyptian salad (reminds me of a creek salad, average) - Egyptian Mac and cheese cowboy (yes) -hibiscus mint tea (small but yes) This was enough to feed four adults. Once you order, you can ear outside or inside. There's a bathroom inside next door that sells alcohol. The forks/spoons/ napkins/ and foil used as a plate is next to the line. Kgbbq itself is not a brick and mortar. It is a food truck. Parking is free out front. But super packed. I would come here for lunch or mid day to try to avoid them running out of dishes for the evening. read more
Truly one of the best BBQ in the area! Forget all those big BBQ spots in Austin who's names I shall not name and has super duper long lines.... The orders went really fast so the wait was not too fast. It was not that busy when we went. The only problem with the line is that it's under a busy bird tree so there's a good chance of getting pooped on. Don't ask me why this crosses as a concern.... My favorite is the bacon lamb cut, has the most flavor through the whole cut. The brisket and lab chops were also really good and tender. No weird chewy parts on or under the bone....... Unlike some places with beef ribs. The meats come with a nice bbq sauce and falafel like stuffing to garnish the meats. The mac and cheese was also really nice and seasoned. Not watery and runny like bbq place i shall not name... The draft beer next door has a good selection, very nice to have. I will definitely return since I didn't get a chance to try the lamb sausage. The guy in front of me took the last one. He is the unforgiven. All the food we had was about $52 for two people and it was a lot! Orders are 1/2 lb minimum unless specified differently. read more

Austin City Limits weekend is always anticipated with all the great acts I plan on seeing, especially with how stacked the 2025 lineup was. But one of the higher pieces of anticipation came when my buddy Andrew cold-texted me the Monday prior to ACL asking, "KG on Friday?" KG has been atop Andrew's try list for some time, and I'd been waiting for the right moment to give it a shot. That Friday seemed perfect. I talk a lot in my reviews about the uniqueness that a lot of Texas BBQ joints have, from Asian inspirations to Mexican and Latin inspirations, but I think the true winner of unique comes from KG fusing Texas BBQ with Egyptian and Mediterranean cuisine. How do you combine two cuisines that don't even feel remotely correlated? The answer is simple: love and passion. KG is located in the heart of Austin, just between Cherrywood and Mueller, on the patio of Oddwood Brewing, and it is clear that the brewery gets attention simply from being where KG is located. We arrived at KG around 12:40 pm to a decent line, and after ordering and sitting down, we had our food by 1:10 pm The hardest part was narrowing down what all we wanted to get off their menu. After $100 worth of damage to their menu, we had quite a sampler to try. I'll mention each thing one by one. Brisket: It's scarily good. I think I wasn't expecting it to hit me as hard because it was the simplest thing on the menu, but it's dangerously delicious. There is such a strong flavor in its seasoning that doesn't overpower how tender and incredible the preparation of the meat is. I was starstruck. Za'atar & Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs: Easily the most hyped thing to try on this menu, and it did not disappoint. It is very candied by the glaze, so the ribs stick together, but it really works for the style the ribs are going for versus them being fall-off-the-bone. There are pomegranate seeds on the ribs, and it just tastes heavenly. I won't say the pomegranate flavor is subtle because it's noticeable, but it doesn't overpower the pork of the ribs. I was a huge fan of these. Lamb Chop: Of course, the Mediterranean-style BBQ joint is going to have lamb chops, and the chop here does not disappoint. The bone we had was huge and was cooked to perfection. Smoked Chicken Kebab: It might be a sign to say chicken is one of the best things at a BBQ joint, but KG's chicken kebab stacks up with the rest of the menu and is even a title contender. The chicken is just so well-seasoned, with notes of thyme and honey shining through and having such a mild kick that brings out the flavors of the dark thighs. I would crush a rotisserie chicken seasoned like this. Lamb Merguez Hot Links: As impressed as I was with the lamb chop, the lamb sausage link was not for me. It is their cheapest meat on the menu, and it just wasn't impressive. I didn't finish it, and I would never get it again. I will try their pork sausage one day and follow up. I would recommend everything but that lamb link. Pink Buttermilk Potato Salad: A twist on a Texas BBQ staple, the potato salad here uses true potato chunks and has a super unique flavor profile with the beet flavors coming out alongside the creaminess of the potato salad. Pita Bread: This isn't just a BBQ joint with a loaf of Sunbeam, but pita bread, and it's honestly better for it. Pita is just fun, and it works well with the KG experience. Oum Ali: If you thought there was room for dessert, you'd be mostly wrong. A few bites of their smoked Egyptian bread pudding were enough to almost send me over the edge, but the cinnamon flavors and nuts really make this bread pudding what it is. Hibiscus Mint Iced Tea: A specialty drink is cool too, and it isn't too sugary. A good BBQ meal needs a good tea, but KG isn't going to let that be a basic take. Everything is unique here. Overall, I'm surprised I survived it. Everything is so fantastic, special, and well-made. Finally got to try KG BBQ in Austin, and it completely blew me away! Their Egyptian-inspired twist on Texas barbecue is so creative and works perfectly. The pomegranate-glazed pork ribs were the clear highlight -- tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. Every bite had that perfect balance of sweet and savory. The sides were also just as good -- the Egyptian mac & cheese and beet potato salad were both unique but tasted great. The brisket bowl was good, and I loved the incorporation of fresh vegetables to balance the oily, rich brisket. They have plenty of outdoor seating, and thankfully our wait wasn't too long. I'll definitely be back for another round of those ribs when I'm back in Austin! read more

When I was reading up on the new Texas Monthly BBQ list, I saw that KG (Kebab & Grill) BBQ had made it into the Top 50 for 2025 and was intrigued by the idea of Texan/Egyptian BBQ. Moreover, I saw this place gaining some popularity on social media and decided to see what all the commotion was about. There was a small line when the restaurant opened, and it took about 20 minutes before getting to the counter. The service was not only quick, but the cashier and the coworkers in the trailer were very friendly as well and ensured that our order was correct. Something to note is that there is a bar next to the trailer where you can order drinks and eat in a cooler environment. As for the food, my friend and I got the Brisket (half point, half flat), Za'atar and Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs, Lamb Chops, and the Smoked Chicken Kebab for our entrées. As for the sides, we got the Egyptian Baladi Salad, Pink Buttermilk Potato Salad, Spicy Chimichurri, BBQ, Tahini, and Yogurt Sauces. Lastly, you cannot have BBQ without some pickled items as well. For this restaurant, they serve Sumac Onions. The Brisket had a strong (but not overpowering) smoky flavor, and I could taste that they were using post-oak wood. The point end of the Brisket was nice, moist, and rich. The lean part of the Brisket was alright and had a steak-like texture. While it was a little on the drier side, both the flavor and the fat cap made up for the slight dryness. The Za'atar and Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs were phenomenal; the flavor was very aromatic and a little sweet, with the za'atar providing a nutty flavor from the sesame seeds and a lemon-like tang from the herbs used in the blend. The Pork Ribs were also very tender and had a pull-off-the-bone texture. As for the Lamb Chops, it appears they also used the same za'atar spice blend, which had the same flavor I outlined previously for the ribs, minus the sweetness from the pomegranate glaze. They were served medium-rare and were also tender, kind of like a smoked filet mignon with a mild gamey flavor. They came with a Spicy Chimichurri Sauce as well, which had nice notes of garlic and parsley that balanced out the mild gamey flavor of the lamb wonderfully. The last entrée, the Smoked Chicken Kebab, had a strong smoky and garlicky flavor. For the kebab, they used chicken thighs, and because they were smoked for a long time, the collagen rendered out, making them rich, moist, and flavorful. As for the sides, the Pink Buttermilk Potato Salad had a slightly acidic and milky flavor. Additionally, the beets they blended into the sauce added a light sweetness to the potato salad. As for the Baladi Salad, it consisted of onions, cucumber, and tomatoes with a light vinaigrette. However, what separates this salad from other cucumber salads is the floral notes from the cumin they used in it, which was different but in a good way, as it provided a slight earthiness to the salad that balanced out the rich vinaigrette. The Tahini Sauce also had a strong earthy and nutty flavor, and the Sumac Onions were floral, crunchy, and acidic. Finally, the BBQ Sauce was nice and sweet from the pomegranate juice they use in their recipe. The only sauce I thought could use more work was the Yogurt Sauce, as it was a little bland and could use more herbs and acid. Overall, I would say this restaurant is well-deserving of the recognition they have received, and I am happy to see there are more restaurants incorporating new cuisines into their cooking. The brisket rice bowl has a seriously beautiful presentation. Has all the colors that make you hungry. There was no line when I went on Thursday around lunchtime. Unfortunately, the brisket was very salty and didn't pair that well with the rice. I had been looking forward to this dish so much that I literally dreamt about it, so I was a bit disappointed. A less salty, more flavorful meat dish (maybe like Indonesian beef rendang) would complement the rice much better. There were so many items they're selling around the order window, it was confusing to tell what was actually provided for free (BBQ sauce, hot sauce, or maybe nothing). read more
Such an interesting take on Texas bbq and I love all of the Egyptian flavors! This has been on my list to visit for so long, just because of how unique the concept is. And I'm glad I was able to finally try it out! I was a little wary because it's starting to get really hot out, but I was surprised to find that they have a covered seating area, with lots of rotating fans and misters, so it really didn't feel that hot out at all. The line wasn't too bad and we were able to find parking pretty easily, but I would still recommend putting your order in beforehand! Some items I thought were ok were the potato salad, and the pomegranate pork ribs. The potato salad was very dill forward which wasn't my favorite, but I'm sure there are fans out there. Whereas I wish the ribs had some more pomegranate flavor, something deeper beyond just it being kind of sweet. But some things I would definitely get again: the brisket rice bowl, which had the perfect combination of nuts, pomegranates, fresh vegetables, tender meat, rice, and a creamy sauce to bring it all together and the lamb which was pretty tender and worked so well with the chimichurri! We also tried the oum ali, which is basically bread pudding. The flavors were so good! The cinnamon, nuts, and pastry all go so well together, and with the creaminess of the milk. The texture was a little too soggy for me personally, but I'm just really sensitive towards soggy bread. So I feel like most people will love it. But I'm gonna heat it up a bit in the air fryer and I feel like that will just elevate it even more. Coming back I would really wanna try the Mac and cheese as well as the lamb bacon ribs! read more
I think might be my new favorite barbecue spot! I didn't even get to try their ribs because they were all out. But here are my thoughts on the things I did get to try: Brisket (4/5) - The brisket was decent, pretty moist. Nothing to get excited about but really nice making a little pita sandwich with the chimichurri sauce and onions. Lamb Chops (5/5) - I ordered one of these for myself because I wanted to try and I was not disappointed. For a barbecue joint, I felt like I was eating at a fine dining establishment! It was a nice aside from the usual rich fatty smoky meats that you constantly eat at barbecue. Pork Shoulder (4/5) - Very nice overall, my only qualm is that there were a few parts that were dry. But when it was juicy, it was really top-notch. Eqyptian Mac n Cheese (4.5/5) - The mac n cheese was rich, but it also had a nice tomato and garlic flavor it, making it more dynamic than most mac n cheeses out there. Would definitely order this as a side again. Potato Salad (4/5) - The potato salad was solid, but not spectacular. It's always a good choice for freshness to balance the meat. Sauces - I loooove the chimichurri sauce. The tangy freshness serves as a perfect complement to barbecue. For something closer to a barbecue sauce, their pomegranate BBQ sauce is pretty nice. Slightly sweeter and tangier than the typical BBQ sauce but I still enjoyed it. Will come back for the ribs, but so far enjoyed the barbecue experience here! read more
Plenty of buzz around this food truck and the smoked meats they server absolutely deliver. There's plenty of business going for them as I waited in line for 30mins on a Sunday morning that wasn't that hot, and I feel like I got lucky. When you get your food after your beeper goes off it is honestly hard not to be blown away. The presentation of the tray and vibrancy of the colors does so much of the heavy lifting in your mind to tell you how good the meal is gonna be. Lamb chops that have been rendered down so beautifully that the fat just melts in your mouth were my wife's favorite. The pomegranate ribs were so tempting that even the cautious meat eater in our group couldn't resist, might have liberated her from vegetarianism. Though my favorite was the brisket. The bark held just the right amount of seasoning and the interconnective fat between the meat fibers just kept the meat so moist. Was a tad bit underwhelmed by our sides, the Egyptian Mac n cheese wasn't for us. The tomatos weren't doing it for me in this bbq setting. The rice was also just kinda plain, after looking so delicious with the nuts and raisins that topped it. All the praise is well earned at KG, maybe one day grabbing a brick and mortar location is in the cards to house more awesome. read more
I am at once floored by the delightfully tasty food and perplexed that it didn't make it to the Texas Monthly 2025 list. We visited in the midst of torrential downpour and flood warnings. We were honestly surprised to see this food truck open but they've set a nice awning and there's covered seating on the patio of Oddwood Brewing (which I highly recommend). They gave us a buzzer and after maybe 15mins wait they presented us with a generously plated spread, sandwiched between two sturdy parchmented trays to keep our lunch safe from the rain. Pork ribs - spiced, sweet, spicy, delightful. Falling off the bone! Lamb - I don't eat lamb but my friends LOVED it. Sounds like the main reason to go here. Brisket - probably the reason KG didn't make the list. It's nothing to write home about. Lean, dry, not rendered to perfection like you'd expect. As if it's here to check a box. If they can up their brisket game I can see them in the next Texas Monthly ranking. Mac and cheese - topped with a generous bit of spices. Friends complained it wasn't salty enough but I got plenty of salt from the meats and sauces and found a nice respite from the barrage of tasty flavors. That being said, if you're looking for a rich, decadent southern Mac this one is very herbaceous and subtle. Definitely not oozing with cheddar. Rice - um WOW - perfectly seasoned, perfect fluffy, no sticky grains. Crowned heftily with cashews, pistachios and pomegranate seeds. It's a MUST! read more

This has quickly become one of my favorite BBQ spots. The flavors are uniquely seasoned and offer a refreshing alternative to classic Texas barbecue. I really appreciated that the food truck stayed open through their listed hours, even ten minutes past closing. Despite arriving just 30 minutes before close, the line moved quickly thanks to their efficiency and we ordered with 15 minutes to spare. I ordered the baladi salad, which was a fine complement to the heavier meats but nothing particularly special, mostly well-marinated tomatoes and cucumbers. The lamb chop was the standout! Incredibly juicy, tender, and well-seasoned. I would absolutely order it again. The pomegranate ribs weren't quite to my taste, as the sauce leaned very tangy and one noted. I tend to prefer a salty dry rub, but that's a personal preference. We also had the Egyptian mac and cheese, which was excellent. This was absolutely phenomenal. If I told you one of the best things I ate here was a potato salad, you would think that spoke poorly of the meat and you would be wrong. The pink buttermilk potato salad was just that phenomenal. Everything else was also chef's kiss. Particularly loved the lamb bacon ribs and the variety of toppings, ranging from a BBQ sauce, yogurt, tahini, chimichurri, just insanely good. The fusion of Egyptian spices with Texas bbq is too good to pass up. The meat is super juicy, flavorful and tender. The food comes out quick but doesn't compromise flavor.
