In Austin visiting and being from Buffalo and having a Greek family I wanted to get some Greek food. No Yia Yia around so I had to go out and find a place. Well after looking at several restaurants on yelp I found that most restaurants were Mediterranean but more middle eastern than Greek. Until I saw Opa. Well my wife and I gave it a shot. And we were pretty well pleased. We had a Greek salad where all the ingredients were super fresh with a nice pita bread and a grape leaf and a 2 nice pieces of feta. I also had a chicken gyro. Again all super fresh veggies filled the pita wrap and very tasty chicken. They had outdoor seating for our dog who was our dinner guest. But you have to order inside. Which I did. The person who took the order was busy but did a great job. We asked for a couple of large glasses of water with lemon and she promptly took care of us. There were small glasses out on the table but we wanted large ones cus we didn't want to keep walking inside. No problem. Food arrived after a short while and was delicious. They have a nice parking lot however getting in and out can be a little bit crazy when you have everyone from Austin rushing home. Had to wait a long time to get to exit the parking lot cus not one Texan driver would give us a break and let me in the exit lane. Next time I see a Texas license plate in New York I will remember that. But I will still give them a break. read more

Stopped by Op's Greek Cafe for dinner before a show. It is an idyllic little cafe that serves quality Greek food and Greek inspired drinks. Parking was a bit of a challenge but was able to park on the curb out front. Once inside, we placed our order at the counter and pre-paid and were given a number. They have an extensive menu with traditional Greek dishes and all-day breakfast options. As well as a full bar offering aromatic coffee, hand-crafted cocktails, fine wine, and a selection of local and international beers. The restaurant was busy we were able to place our order in a timely fashion. I opted for a cocktail along with lentils and rice and added chicken as the protein. There was indoor and outdoor seating available. After ordering, we sat outside in the most cozy and intimate outdoor seating area. Unfortunately, after waiting 30+ minutes, we never received our food. When we checked at the counter, the interaction felt pretty condescending, staff insisted the order had already been brought out even though we never received it and still had our number with us. At that point we had to cancel the order so we wouldn't miss our show. I do appreciate that they offered a full refund without issue, but overall the experience left us disappointed, especially with how the situation was handled. read more

I've only stopped by Opa! Greek Cafe for drinks so far, but it's definitely on my list to come back and try the food. The space has a fun, lively feel, and it's actually a great spot to post up and get some work done too. The WiFi is reliable, and they've got a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The patio wraps around the back, which gives you a few different options depending on your mood. I don't usually do caffeine, but I made an exception here because I was too curious not to try a few things. I got the baklava latte and a Greek frappe, and honestly, no regrets. I came here for lunch while I was waiting to go to another event. The restaurant itself is super cozy and cute and they also serve coffee which might make it a great remote work place during the day. I've been in Austin for a long time (cough cough since 2006) and have never stopped by Opa since it was out of my way back in the day but this is a cute spot to get out of the house grab a coffee or later in the evening for a wine. There is plenty of inside seating for the hot summer days and outdoor seating for the 3 months where its a bit more brisk outside. Opa! I came here for Sunday night bingo with some friends and it was a lot of fun! The restaurant is basically a cottage/house and the seating is so cute since it's all mismatched furniture. There are even couple couches that fit large groups. I saw a few couples here for date night which is a great idea, the bingo itself is free. Really love the idea of a local business hosting bingo night because it brings in business for them (everyone ordered food and/or drinks) and patrons have a fun time. More businesses should do it! I ordered the breakfast egg croissant and it was great! It had a huge slab of baked egg on the inside which was pretty unique. It did take quite a while for the food to come out though, it seemed like they weren't used to a crowd of this size (all the tables were taken). I ended up getting 1st place for one of the bingo rounds, and you get to collect your prize at the bar (they didn't really give directions about that part). 1st place gets a free cocktail selection and 2nd place gets a free pastry/appetizer selection. I opted for pumpkin bread since I don't drink and sadly they didn't have any baklava left. The pumpkin bread was good but could have been more flavorful. Walking in on Saturday at around 11am, it was packed! However, we were able to find a table by the wall. It was loud but not so loud where you could make out people's conversations- we saw many people studying and reading. The place is super cute, there's couches and board games! Also, outside has nice patio seating, it was just too cold to enjoy this day. We ended up enjoying the mediterranean plate and our greek coffees. Both were delicious! We will be back! Came here for the first time for their bingo night that they have on Sundays! I randomly came across their event page and love how they host different free events: open mic, bingo, jazz on different days of the week! It was fun playing bingo and my friend won a food prize! It's a very casual place and you can order food/drinks at the bar. After you order, you can take your number to any table you want to sit at. Tables near the front are small, the tables at the back are bigger and have different board games underneath. It is harder to hear in the back though for bingo. They have five rounds and each round gets harder such as getting a bingo with two cards, etc. I liked the food we got-gyro wrap and meatball dish. The meatball dish had a spicy marinara sauce, which I enjoyed! I just wish there were meatballs. Although they are entrees, these are lighter meals so I suggest coming here knowing it's not a full meal. There's also outdoor dining with heaters and lights. It's really pretty outside! read more

Solid first visit to Opa! Outside, it was beautiful and generally shaded around 5-6pm. Inside, there were plenty of folks enjoying a coffee, one of the beers on tap, or a cocktail from the full bar. This spot offers a balance of space for intimate conversations, quiet working space (saw several Longhorns working on homework), or large family gatherings and table games. We were lucky to catch some live music on a Friday evening as well! Food and drink orders are at the bar inside, and I would definitely order the thin crust pizza again! Service is a bit bare bones (only running out food/drinks to your number), and parking may be sparse, but just know that if you're heading during a popular meal time. I know they host live music or other events and they sounds fun too. As for the food, I've haven't really gotten anything I'd come back for. Not pictured, but one time I got the meatballs and pita and it was really good. This time I go the gyro with lamb and it was good but nothing to note. The fry portion was disappointing since my friends and I all ordered the same thing, and they got 3x the amount of fries I got. My mocktail was over sweetened and had too much raspberry flavor. Outside they had live acoustic performances from great local singer/songwriters, and inside they had a poetry slam! Every-time I would drop inside to get water it was a complete vibe change and I loved it! We got mocktails and a Mediterranean board, NGL for 25 bucks (excluding the beverage) its an amazing deal and the food was very delicious, full of flavor, rich, and what's nice is that it was light at the same time. I had a really bad first date here ages ago, but I don't want to hold that against them. The establishment itself is welcoming, thoughtful, and everything that my potential suitor was not. The outdoor space is dog-friendly and inside, it's a great place to lock in and get some work done. Definitely a prime third space for anyone seeking an escape from either work or home. Happy hour deals are excellent, and while I didn't try the food, there seems to be a good range of fresh/healthy options, paired with more crowd-pleasing comfort foods, generally with a Greek sort of slant. Another great food experience at one of Austin's unique cafes in the heart of the '04, also known back in time some years as 'Bubbaville', on this Valentines Day '26! Their delicious 'Greek Omelette' runs parallel to a frittata and the flavor is perfect! With egg, spinach, tomato and onion cooked in real Olive Oil and then topped with a generous spread of feta cheese, the flavors were balanced well. Cute spot on a beautiful day as there is plenty of outdoor seating areas. Inside is a different story as it is a cafe and I was with a few people when I went. Most indoor seating is single small tables and the only two large seating table areas were occupied by single patrons who decided to utilize the only two tables large enough to eat at regardless of the dozens of open single seating areas. It was disappointing but the weather cleared up enough for us to enjoy our gyros out on the patio. The food was good for a quick bite but this isn't somewhere you could rely on adequate seating if the weather isn't great. read more

Very chill spot for catching up with friends, working, or just people-watching. I love all the trees, which made the 100-degree weather in October very pleasant. I ordered the Mediterranean wrap which has egg, sun-dried tomato, spinach, red onion, and crumbled feta wrapped in warm whole wheat tortillas. It's bigger than a taco but definitely not burrito size. And you get two of them! The barista was the only person who made drinks and worked on the register so the line could get a little long. I got my food very quickly, but it took my friend quite a while before she got her avocado toast. Will come back more often! read more

The food, on the other hand, was a bit hit or miss. Some dishes came out a little bland and underwhelming, while others had enough flavor to stand out. Nothing was terrible, but nothing blew me away either. we both had the Gyro and thought there were too much large pieces of vegetables and fruit and very little actual meat in them. You can see from our pictures. What I did really appreciate was the vibe. They have outdoor seating, which is perfect for enjoying that classic Austin breeze and people-watching. And if you're looking to chill indoors, the inside is cozy and great for reading, studying, or catching up with friends. It's a flexible space, and that's a big plus in my book. This could be a cute little spot with live music if you're in the area and looking for something casual. Went here on a Thursday night girls' date night. Parking is limited but available - I suppose it would be more challenging if there was an event but there were still a few spots at 6:45. Service is where the experience really fell off for me - you go to the indoor counter to order (everything, drinks and food) and I guess the person at the cash register was on break because a small sign noted "be back soon" but my friend and I waited 10+ minutes to put in our order. Cocktails/mocktails, wine, beer were all on order and priced competitively ($12 for a glass of wine, similar prices for cocktails). Food was average for Mediterranean - we split the med plate (the dolmas were good but it was difficult to tell if everything was made in house or simply bought in bulk). A jazz band set up and started playing inside around 8 and that was definitely a great addition to the overall vibe. It never got crowded but there were a few people scattered about over the course of the 3 hours we were there. If it's a nice day/night and you're looking for something fast-casual this could be a good option but it's definitely not upscale/fancy and service is hit or miss. read more

I had the worst experience this afternoon. After a long day I was hoping to unwind and get some good food have a drink and finally sit down after standing all day doing hair but I was very disappointed in a place that I used to love years ago. The food was over priced and disappointing. I ordered a lamb gyro to go. I received a flavorless meal on a plate not packaged to go. It lacked meat, it was flavorless and must had been frozen prior. The tzatziki sauce was basically just cream and cucumbers with zero flavoring.. i've had better gyros at the stand outside of Lowe's for eight bucks. The young, blonde bartender was even more upsetting. I ordered a Torresella prosecco rosé, and she proceeded to upsell me to a rosé mixed drink for two dollars more. I agreed however she gave me just the regular Prosecco rosé and still charged me the upgraded price. And when I asked her for a glass of water, she just pointed to the free water stand in the corner with the plastic miniature water cups. I could only carry 2 cups of water so I drink one standing there and filled up two more to take back with me because I was extremely thirsty. She was too preoccupied with flirting with the two young men at the bar to be bothered with my hydration issues. I bartended for 15 years and I'm still in the customer service business as a Hair Stylist and I never would just brush off a client the way she did me. I used to love this place. They used to have a beautiful quaint outdoor seating under their beautiful tree. Now everyone is crammed into close uncomfortable seating. Not only that dogs are not allowed unless they sit outside. This is Austin, Texas, where everybody takes their dogs everywhere. Any place or any person that doesn't like dogs can't be trusted.. Will , I returned to Opa , no probably not there's so many other places with better food and service. I got treated better today during lunch at the Taco Cabana, on Ben White where I only spent 9$, than I did spending 40$ at OPA. read more

TLDR; Great for coffee, tea and beverages. Not so great for food. Really enjoyed the ambiance. Plenty of seating, and with the outdoor trees and cozy indoor seating, it's hard to remember a busy Austin street is steps away. Be forewarned! There are red ants outside, and mosquitos. There seemed to be communal repellant outside by the porch. Wide variety of teas and coffees, both hot and cold. I expected the food to be above average, especially based on the ambiance, however it was good enough to think, "I can make this at home". If you're looking for hummus, think about getting a full meal with a side of hummus. The hummus plate is bare minimum, and nothing extraordinary. Gyro plates and Mediterranean salads had some of what you expect but, honestly, it seemed like components were missing in both dishes. I enjoyed the Mediterranean salad (I added lamb gyro). While it was refreshing with the abundance of cucumbers and tomatoes, it wasn't filling. The gyro had too much of the same on the plate: some meat with a small handful of veggies wrapped in a pita, with a side of pita chips. Lots of pita. Perhaps not the best choice after getting hummus and pita. read more

My favorites were the tiropita and spanikopita, but the contrast of other less rich items really balanced them out. He got a chicken gyro which looked bland but satisfying. He was polite and said it was good, but I'm not so sure. Another good part was that it was a relaxed setting we could catch up without the pressure of a lively or pretentious new restaurant. It's in such a cute, comfortable old building. If it were just a little cooler, we would have loved to sit out on the tree-lined front patio. Met up with a group of 3 people here for some coffee and chatting earlier this week, and I was pleasantly surprised! There is a great WFH vibe going on with plenty of seating, outlets, and parking. The place is incredibly clean and inviting, as well! One con worth mentioning is that it took a really long time to order anything. I was standing at the cash register for at least 10 minutes, and nobody came to the register. I ended up leaving and sitting down and just trying again later, which worked, but it was a little weird and frustrating. However, I am told this is not the norm, so I am hoping I am the only one with this experience! I ended up ordering a latte, which was delicious and came in a generously sized portion. Two words: Disappointing and overpriced. Immediately upon ordering a gyro plate (which was $17 before tip), I felt a deep and longing feeling of regret. At first I was pleased with the speediness of the service but I soon discovered the terrible price I had to pay for convenience. The gyro was something a sixth grader might cook up in his Intro to Culinary 1 class that he took because he needed to fill the empty spot in his schedule (and the empty void in his life since his parents divorce). It was dry pita bread filled with unappetizing lamb and quickly cut tomatos and cucumbers, among a few other ingredients. I was hoping its appearance was deceiving, but unfortunately I was not pleasantly surprised. The fries were bland and unseasoned, a direct insult to the greek community. I've had much better fries for a fraction of the cost at P. Terry's. Overall, the burning hole that Opa! left in my pocket has left me saddened by the direction our society is headed. I will now think twice about spending my hard earned, cold hard cash at an establishment such as this. Do not come here if you enjoy food and if you respect all the hard work that our forefathers put in during times of hardship to make sure our families had nourishment in their stomachs.
