I've been making my rounds finding the perfect Work-from-Coffee shop locations and Golden Hour has made the cut! Golden Hour is a cute spot that serves as a coffee shop serving light breakfast and by night, transforms into a cozy spot to unwind with a glass of wine and canapés. Fair warning--if it's your first visit, finding it can be a little confusing. It's tucked inside an apartment complex and shares the outdoor courtyard with the residents. With that being said, since it's creative in its location, it gives a relaxed, neighborhood vibe where you'll find young mothers yapping, corporate employees working and girlies catching up. Unfortunately, if you fall into the corporate employee category like myself, the coveted corner table is the hottest seat in the house since it's the only unique seating with multiple outlets. Otherwise, you'll find sneaky floor outlets at the community table and another a few tables away from the corner seating area. I had the Miso Panela Latte and their signature Breakfast Burrito. While the burrito isn't as "hearty" as other places in size, I thought it was filling enough to share with my partner for a light breakfast. The Miso Panela was delicious and so unique compared to other basic offerings in Austin. NOTE: Happy Hour is offered daily from 4-6 PM where you'll get $2 off wines by the glass, draught beer, and cocktails. In addition, Focaccia by the slice will run at $4. read more

Underwhelmed by the size in comparison to its advertised photos and when looking at other reviews seems like the burrito size is inconsistent. A cute date-spot vibey spot with a short but good menu of food options as well as beverages. I got the matcha which I found to be missing strength. It was too much milk and too little of the matcha powder. The gluten-free version of the breakfast burrito was quite oily and with a lot less eggs than the regular version that my friend got. I was still happy that they had a GF wrap option. It was also pricy at $17 (+tax/tip) The ambiance is cute and the subtle deaign elements add some character to the spot. Golden Hour Cafe & Wine Bar on Menchaca Road in South Austin was truly an ideal spot to grab drinks at golden hour, as the majority of their seating is outdoors and dog friendly. Such a cute vibe, ideal for both coffee and wine, catching up with friends in a relaxing setting. While they do have some indoor seating, a unique highlight was that they have two larger picnic tables under string lights, and while we were there we saw families with babies pushing strollers to meet up in this more quiet area. There's plenty of free parking in their lot right out front, and it is connected to an apartment complex with a pool - how lucky are these residents to have such a convenient café! While it wasn't on their menu, they were able to make me an Espresso Tonic, combining tonic water, ice, and espresso in a glass cup. It was even more delicious as the ice slightly started to melt. They had a single dose espresso grinder at the time, so we couldn't see which type of espresso they were using (I typically prefer light roasts for espresso tonics) but it was still enjoyable and refreshing. They have a large selection of bottles of wine for sale, and you can order wines by the glass as well. My friend didn't love the sparkling rosé as much as she'd been hoping to, but it was served in a cute glass so that helped make up for it. I finally made it to Golden Hour for happy hour! My best friend and I went post work for a weekly debriefing, drinks, and nibbles. It was such a cutie place and great for a nice drink in the summer. Rustic and homey decor and fabulous light fixtures! The wine list was comprehensive, and they even have a whole wall of bottles you can look at and open up for your visit! The only downside is parking is limited, but definitely worth the visit! I got a rosé which was smooth and crisp, and my friend got the ume cocktail which was phenomenal. Wow what a great stop on a sunny Saturday morning! This is a very very cute cafe / wine bar to catch a vibe, a good bite, and a good tune before you set off on your day. Located in the same area as Perch apartments, but parking exists just for the cafe before you enter the apartment area. Parking spots are a little tight, so just mind your doors if many people are there. We tried the breakfast burrito which was delicious (loved the chipotle and cheese pull, a as well as the very fresh tortilla it was in), and a matcha latte with honey and oat milk. I was so happy to finally try Golden hour for happy hour which runs till 6 pm. This wine bar is located the front of the Perch apartment complex. These residents are lucky. They have wine by the glass or bottles. We enjoyed their citrus marinated olives, bread and butter and Texas cheeses with honey comb. The are very small snacks but there is also a kitchen menu with featured dishes. The service was excellent and the atmosphere very cozy and inviting. read more

The concept of the cafe/coffee bar in between the apartments and leasing office was definitely unique. We were able to snag a table inside, where many people were also working on their laptops. We visited the Golden Hour on a Saturday evening at 7:30 and found it not crowded so appreciated that. It took several minutes of standing at the counter for any staff to acknowledge us. The menu is handwritten on a chalkboard and I had trouble reading the handwriting. Not sure which wine to order, the server offered me a taste of her recommendation. I enjoyed it so ordered a glass ($14). We ordered ham and burrino cheese which was served with a baguette type bread ($18). The cheese and ham were very good. We Also had watermelon gel and fresh watermelon with a furikake seasoning and the contrast between the textures was interesting; they were both delish. I live nearby and have visited a couple more times. Indoors has a good amount of seating for working or reading. They also have a large outdoor seating section which is pretty cute. The bread with butter from their appetizer menu is a delicious freshly baked focaccia I can easily eat 2 orders of it just because of how GOOD it is and they are pretty big portions. I also really enjoyed the ume spritz cocktail. I have also gotten the veggie crudite and it was also very fresh and tasty. I'd say the only thing to really improve is the coffee bar orders are not that consistent. One time I get a latte with mocha syrup and it seems like it's balanced and has one pump, the next time it tastes like it has 4 pumps. I would specify how many pumps of stuff you want in any barista drinks because some of them have been a bit syrupy. I do see their vision and do believe that they use very high quality ingredients for their food which is why the prices are on the higher end. read more

I come here most afternoons when I visit Austin. The air conditioning is humming along to the moody cool playlist. It's working for me today as the clouds of an Austin spring holds the air in thick. I've ordered my usual house made olive oil cake with Yaupon iced tea. I've also ordered the charcuterie. It's has arrived with some excellent cheeses, generous meats, jam, honey and almonds. Really great coffee and the hourly staff is very helpful. Food is killer too. But... I've had a few interactions with management there and I am truly surprised how lacking their customer service is from an ownership perspective. Wrong food orders brought out and then correct orders brought to the wrong table where they told the wrong table it was an extra dish. Management could be less bothered when brought to attention and refund never given or followed up on. Barista is away from front and management sits at bar without assisting and watches. Just really odd experience. It could be a really special place with their dinners if they just focused on customer experience more. If not it just kind of becomes one of many places in Austin that are the same. But I keep coming back because coffee is really really good. Hoping they can take a step forward. read more

I ordered the chai latte and it did not disappoint, it was so good and had the perfect balance of spice and creamy. My latte was about $6 or so. I also ordered the pour over coffee which was really good too! I ordered a breakfast burrito which was SO GOOD! The salsa/chipotle sauce they serve with it was yum! This is a beautiful and peaceful coffee shop tucked away off Manchaca Road. I had the honey butter toast, which is on thick delicious bread. They make their own pastries!! This location is actually an amenity for the high-end apartment complex adjacent to the bar/restaurant. The service was exceptionally friendly, and knowledgeable, and the selection of wines and beers excellent; however, the appetizers were small and not very appealing for the price. We had a great time riding out a thunderstorm, and catching-up, but at the end of the evening, I thought the price tag was outrageous, even for boogjiee, south Austin. I will not go back unless I ever date a "wine-snob," or I rent an apartment at the "Perch," behind the Golden Hour. One of the wines we tasted was exceptional, which was a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah - French rose, but the others were only "average" which is the grade I give this place. Finally a cute cafe and wine shop for us South Austinites. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning and shared a surprisingly delicious croque madame and a couple of mochas. The kitchen is very small and located in the front of the cafe, however our food came out quickly. Golden Hours' twist on the croquettes madame is more of an open faced sandwich with an amazing cream sauce and a hint of honey. Wine by the glass seems a little expensive - around $13 or $14 - however I think bottles of wine were very well priced, with many in the $24 to $35 range with no corkage fee. Although it was cold when we went, I look forward to returning to when it is a little warmer so I can sit in the cozy outdoor area and share a bottle of wine with friends. read more

I would ideally like to give about 3.9 stars for this place. I'll start with the ambiance and service: both immaculate. The service was quick and the barista was helpful. I went in the evening with a friend for drinks and the low light/candlelight vibe is sexy and intimate. My biggest issue is just that I thought the prices were a little high for what was served. They had a decent number of options but not as many as some other wine bars I've been to, and if I remember correctly my glass of wine was like $14, and the glass was skinnier than a traditional wine glass. But it tasted good and I had a lovely time with my friend so overall I would still go back if someone wanted to go, it just wouldn't be my first choice for a wine bar. Golden Hour is a really cool spot! Located by an apartment complex, it might be hard to spot from the road. But the business (with the surrounding outdoor seating) presents itself like a cool hidden oasis in South Austin! I went there around lunch time, and I think it's important to note that the food offered tends to be more snack-like (think charcuterie or tapas)! Since it's a cafe/winery, they offer some really delicious food that pairs with the beverages they offer. We ordered the toast of the day (salmon with capers), and the croque madam, both of which were delicious and more filling than they look! We also got a mocha, which was pretty good and a little more earthy (but maybe that's because I got oat milk!). I think the more unique part of the business is the wine, so I want to go back and try their wines for sure. Either way, I would definitely recommend checking it out! read more
