This is the kind of place that neither the meats or the sides outshine the other because both are well done. I loved the freshness and balance the pomegranate glaze and the beet labneh gave the pork and brisket. I genuinely still think about the beet labneh - it wasn't something I expected to order from a BBQ place and now I miss it if I get BBQ elsewhere. The Mac was perfectly cheesy and the brisket didn't disappoint. Located at a brewery, a cold pint makes a perfect pairing. read more

Plenty of buzz around this food truck and the smoked meats they server absolutely deliver. There's plenty of business going for them as I waited in line for 30mins on a Sunday morning that wasn't that hot, and I feel like I got lucky. When you get your food after your beeper goes off it is honestly hard not to be blown away. The presentation of the tray and vibrancy of the colors does so much of the heavy lifting in your mind to tell you how good the meal is gonna be. Lamb chops that have been rendered down so beautifully that the fat just melts in your mouth were my wife's favorite. The pomegranate ribs were so tempting that even the cautious meat eater in our group couldn't resist, might have liberated her from vegetarianism. Though my favorite was the brisket. The bark held just the right amount of seasoning and the interconnective fat between the meat fibers just kept the meat so moist. Was a tad bit underwhelmed by our sides, the Egyptian Mac n cheese wasn't for us. The tomatos weren't doing it for me in this bbq setting. The rice was also just kinda plain, after looking so delicious with the nuts and raisins that topped it. All the praise is well earned at KG, maybe one day grabbing a brick and mortar location is in the cards to house more awesome. read more

KG BBQ - Chops, Brisket, Ribs - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

I think might be my new favorite barbecue spot! I didn't even get to try their ribs because they were all out. But here are my thoughts on the things I did get to try: Brisket (4/5) - The brisket was decent, pretty moist. Nothing to get excited about but really nice making a little pita sandwich with the chimichurri sauce and onions. Lamb Chops (5/5) - I ordered one of these for myself because I wanted to try and I was not disappointed. For a barbecue joint, I felt like I was eating at a fine dining establishment! It was a nice aside from the usual rich fatty smoky meats that you constantly eat at barbecue. Pork Shoulder (4/5) - Very nice overall, my only qualm is that there were a few parts that were dry. But when it was juicy, it was really top-notch. Eqyptian Mac n Cheese (4.5/5) - The mac n cheese was rich, but it also had a nice tomato and garlic flavor it, making it more dynamic than most mac n cheeses out there. Would definitely order this as a side again. Potato Salad (4/5) - The potato salad was solid, but not spectacular. It's always a good choice for freshness to balance the meat. Sauces - I loooove the chimichurri sauce. The tangy freshness serves as a perfect complement to barbecue. For something closer to a barbecue sauce, their pomegranate BBQ sauce is pretty nice. Slightly sweeter and tangier than the typical BBQ sauce but I still enjoyed it. Will come back for the ribs, but so far enjoyed the barbecue experience here! read more

Food is amazing. Mac and cheese is great. My go to is the lamb shoulder rice bowl with either their iced coffee or iced hibiscus depending on my mood. Dinner can be tricky because meats start selling out late in the day. Parking is sparse. Plenty of outdoor seating with shade and fans so nice even on hot days. Lines can be long at peak times. read more

KG BBQ - Egyptian Mac & Cheese. Lamb shoulder rice bowl. Brisket Rice Bowl. - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

I am at once floored by the delightfully tasty food and perplexed that it didn't make it to the Texas Monthly 2025 list. We visited in the midst of torrential downpour and flood warnings. We were honestly surprised to see this food truck open but they've set a nice awning and there's covered seating on the patio of Oddwood Brewing (which I highly recommend). They gave us a buzzer and after maybe 15mins wait they presented us with a generously plated spread, sandwiched between two sturdy parchmented trays to keep our lunch safe from the rain. Pork ribs - spiced, sweet, spicy, delightful. Falling off the bone! Lamb - I don't eat lamb but my friends LOVED it. Sounds like the main reason to go here. Brisket - probably the reason KG didn't make the list. It's nothing to write home about. Lean, dry, not rendered to perfection like you'd expect. As if it's here to check a box. If they can up their brisket game I can see them in the next Texas Monthly ranking. Mac and cheese - topped with a generous bit of spices. Friends complained it wasn't salty enough but I got plenty of salt from the meats and sauces and found a nice respite from the barrage of tasty flavors. That being said, if you're looking for a rich, decadent southern Mac this one is very herbaceous and subtle. Definitely not oozing with cheddar. Rice - um WOW - perfectly seasoned, perfect fluffy, no sticky grains. Crowned heftily with cashews, pistachios and pomegranate seeds. It's a MUST! read more

KG BBQ - Pork ribs, 1/2 lamb rack, brisket, Mac and cheese, rice, oum ali (bread pudding) - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

Ordered the lamb chop and the ribs. Ordered online - forced to do a 10% tip. I guess I have to be okay with that, but they also charged a 3% credit card fee... eh whatever... not really but yeah. Anyways, the lamb chop was great. Hard to mess up lamb chops. It's pricey for the amount but it was very good especially with the chimichurri sauce. Ribs were not good. I got the ends of the rack and it was so dry and really salty. The piece I had that was mid rack was good. But it was salty. Yes this place had a twist with the flavor, but I think the pit master on the day I went did not do a good job with the ribs. I think there are better bbq places with better flavor. But worth the try ! read more

I've been excited to try this after learning he's Egyptian and watched him on BBQ showdown S3. However, I was disappointed with the lack of flavor and unauthentic Egyptian twist on BBQ. The kofta was very dense and dry, no hint of Arabic flavors. The Mac and cheese loaded was pretty good. The sauce of the brisket was on the tangy side. Staff is very quick with orders. This has quickly become one of my favorite BBQ spots. The flavors are uniquely seasoned and offer a refreshing alternative to classic Texas barbecue. I really appreciated that the food truck stayed open through their listed hours, even ten minutes past closing. Despite arriving just 30 minutes before close, the line moved quickly thanks to their efficiency and we ordered with 15 minutes to spare. I ordered the baladi salad, which was a fine complement to the heavier meats but nothing particularly special, mostly well-marinated tomatoes and cucumbers. The lamb chop was the standout! Incredibly juicy, tender, and well-seasoned. I would absolutely order it again. The pomegranate ribs weren't quite to my taste, as the sauce leaned very tangy and one noted. I tend to prefer a salty dry rub, but that's a personal preference. We also had the Egyptian mac and cheese, which was excellent. Overall, the food was fantastic and I would absolutely return, especially to share it with friends. read more

This was absolutely phenomenal. If I told you one of the best things I ate here was a potato salad, you would think that spoke poorly of the meat and you would be wrong. The pink buttermilk potato salad was just that phenomenal. Everything else was also chef's kiss. Particularly loved the lamb bacon ribs and the variety of toppings, ranging from a BBQ sauce, yogurt, tahini, chimichurri, just insanely good. And the pita was a great vehicle for eating everything in one bite. read more

KG BBQ - Chicken Shawarma Pita Brisket Bowl Meal - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

If you haven't tried KG BBQ, put it on your Austin food list. This is Egyptian food with a modern Texas BBQ twist--and you won't find anything quite like it anywhere else. I had the brisket rice bowl, while others in our group tried the lamb, brisket pita, lamb ribs, and Egyptian mac & cheese. Everything was a hit. The brisket bowl is a generous serving of Mediterranean rice, your choice of protein, Baladi salad, tahini, candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. And they do not skimp on the meat. The combination of smoky brisket, creamy tahini, sweet and crunchy candied nuts, tart pomegranate, and the fresh salad is an absolute explosion of flavor and texture. Somehow, it all works beautifully together. And the portions are generous enough that we had leftovers--which, honestly, were just as delicious the next day. What really stands out about KG BBQ is how consistently good it is. The people working there are wonderful, and you can tell they take real pride in what they serve. It feels like they genuinely care about the food and the experience. And the value is excellent. Considering the quality, creativity, and amount of food you get, KG BBQ is a really good deal by Austin standards. So leave them a generous tip--they deserve it! KG BBQ is located at Oddwood Brewing, a cozy, welcoming neighborhood pub in East Austin. It's a great setup: craft beer, a retro arcade room, and Oddwood's own thin-crust pizzas and salads. The kids had pizza while the adults enjoyed the BBQ. I had one of their Japanese lagers, and it was excellent--I highly recommend it. It's the kind of place where everyone in the group can find something they love. KG BBQ + Oddwood Brewing = a very worthwhile Austin food stop. Come hungry! read more

Phenomenal spot. The Mac and cheese was delicious it was not your typical Mac n cheese though ! The lamb chops were so moist and full of flavor, a must! Even though it was nearly 100 degrees outside, it was surprisingly comfortable while we waited for our food. They had plenty of fans with misters all around, which made a huge difference. It's your classic Texas-style BBQ joint, casual, rustic, and full of smoky charm. The meats are your typical BBQ fare, with the exception of lamb chops, and that's because this place has a subtle Egyptian fusion twist. And it is sooo worth it. The flavors are amazing, and that pomegranate BBQ sauce was top-notch. We enjoyed every single bite of everything we ordered. They do have indoor seating as well, but they've gone the extra mile to make the outdoor setup comfortable too. Highly recommend! read more

Firstly I didn't expect KG to be a food truck. Secondly, Egyptian + BBQ = Classic with a twist. I got the brisket (because it's my go to BBQ meat, so I have to order). I also got a rice bowl with lamb (might as well do traditional BBQ if you aren't going to try something new). The texture of the rice bowl (10/10), flavors (10/10), amount of meat in the bowl = happily surprised. Easy recommendation!! Would go back. read more

We went here on a Friday at 6 pm not thinking there would be anything left, but there was! We ordered so many things: lamb ribs, lamb chops, Sumac & Cinnamon pulled lamb shoulder, Pomegranate glazed pork ribs, Grilled Chicken Kebab, Egyptian Mac N Cheese, Baladi veggie salad and Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding. They were actually out of brisket, but TBH we didn't miss it. Pickled onions, Tahini sauce, Chimichurri, Yoghurt sauce and Pomegranate BBQ glaze added the finishing touches to this fabulous food. EVERYTHING we ate was delicious albeit rich, very well prepared and presented. A real must go food truck outside the Oddwood Brewery on Manor Rd. They handled the long line efficiently and expeditiously and were very friendly. I was very impressed. This place is an amazing twist on barbecue without sacrificing any of the flavor or authenticity of traditional BBQ. The owner Kareem, aka the Egyptian Cowboy, truly took his culinary skills and craft and elevated barbecue to a whole new level. You can tell he knew exactly what he was doing when he created this Egyptian BBQ fusion. The meat literally falls off your fork because it is so tender. The presentation is a 15 out of 10. I love colorful food, and I grew up eating Middle Eastern food, so seeing all the pops of color from the garnishes and the Egyptian flavors honestly made my heart and my stomach so happy. My husband, who is Egyptian, 100% approves too. When we visited, we ordered from his food truck and sat in the seating area, and spoke to the owner who was very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was so casual and enjoyable. Overall, we were completely satisfied with the entire experience. We will definitely be returning. I also watched Kareem on the Barbecue Showdown on Netflix, and I can truly say his talent, culinary skills, and dedication to his craft shine through. He brings so much creativity to barbecue while preserving his Cairo roots and embracing the Austin BBQ scene. Bravo all around. read more

A food truck that dishes up Texas BBQ with a unique, middle eastern flair - incorporating strong flavors and herbs, as well as exotic meats such as lamb. We ordered lamb chops ($8.40 per bone), pork ribs ($30/lb), lamb shoulder ($34/lb), and Egyptian Baladi Salad ($5 a cup). They were all rubbed with seasoning. The meats were all well cooked and extremely tender / fatty. They did air on the salty side but it's better than being bland! I loved the strong flavors and components - with our meats we were given pita, pomegranate BBQ sauce, tahini sauce, and chimichurri. The cucumber tomato salad was flavored strongly with cumin and was a perfect complement to all the heavy meat. It was truly a feast! The food is served from a truck that is connected to a brewery. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating available. read more

Let me preface this by stating that I adore Mediterranean and North African spices/flavors. This was an absolute grand slam of a spot - as with all Austin BBQ spots, do like the locals and order your meal ahead online and skip the inevitable long lines to just pick up your order at the appropriate time. We decided to go full on lamb focused with our order and seriously, no regrets. We had the lamb ribs, shredded lang shoulder, lamb chops and then for funsies also ordered the chicken thighs and pork ribs. The shredded lamb was just spectacular. Spiced deliciously, and with the green relish and pickled onion it was a bite that was 10/10. The lamb rib was also great - very tender but also very fatty. Some parts were chewy but again, still delicious. The lamb chops were HUGE compared to most lamb chops and I think that is why it was a chewier bite than the others. Again, delicious but not as tender as the others. Seating is outdoors and not super plentiful but tables turn over relatively quickly. I will state outright that this is NOT in any way comparable to the taste of other "Texas bbq" spots that get a lot of hype. But, if you're a fan of the kind of flavors that you'd get at a Mediterranean spot (sumac, mint, parsley) then you'll love it. read more

KG BBQ - Feast! - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

TLDR: Egyptian and Texas barbecue mashup with standout ribs. Sides and dessert also deliver. An interesting fusion that makes it worth a visit. Overview: KG BBQ is a unique Austin spot where Texas smoke meets Cairo soul, led by pitmaster Kareem El-Ghayesh, an Egyptian immigrant who learned Central Texas barbecue from the source and blends it with flavors from home. The food truck sits outside Oddwood Brewing, which means slightly limited parking, but the perk of carrying your tray into the pub to eat with a beer. I arrived about 15 minutes before opening, and a steady line was already forming. The prices are in line with the top-tier spots in Austin, with brisket at $38/lb, ribs at $34/lb, and lamb chops at $9.50 per bone. There is a minimum order of a half pound per meat, so sampling can add up. Beyond the classic sliced meats, KG BBQ also offers rice bowls and pita wraps that seemed popular with the crowd. Food: I went broad: a half pound of brisket, a half pound of ribs, one lamb chop, a link of lamb merguez, the Egyptian baladi salad, mac and cheese, and the oum ali for dessert. The brisket was good, with solid smoke and beefiness, but the bark felt underseasoned and the slices were a bit dry. The ribs, on the other hand, stole the show. They were juicy and tender with tangy, herbal, and lightly sweet notes that fit the Egyptian Texan idea perfectly. The lamb merguez was also good; it had an intriguing warm spice profile that works well in sausage form. The single lamb chop was the weakest of the meats, since smoking did not add much, and the meat tasted like a simple roasted chop. The chimichurri helped, but the flavor stayed mild for the price. The sides brought the meal back up. The mac and cheese was creamy and well seasoned, with tomatoes that kept it lively rather than heavy. The baladi salad of cucumber, tomato, and red onion was simple and very refreshing. For dessert, the oum ali had a gentle cinnamon depth and just the right sweetness, plus roasted chickpeas for crunch and coconut shavings that added a little extra flavor. It was comforting and distinctive without being cloying. Final Thoughts: KG BBQ is absolutely worth recommending for its interesting fusion and solid execution, especially the ribs, the mac and cheese, and the oum ali. It is not a destination in my view, but it is a memorable meal if you are in the area or curious about Egyptian flavors in a Texas barbecue context. read more

This place is the primary reason I came to Austin. Saw this guy on a BBQ competition and had to try his place. It's located in a parking lot partnered with a brewery thus you have some place to sit. Unfortunately Chef wasn't there upon arrival but the line certainly was. Ordered half pork ribs, half lamb bacon ribs, 1 lamb chop and side of rice, side of salad and the hibiscus iced tea. Iced tea should've ordered like 3, was perfectly sweetness. Came with side of yogurt sauce, tahini, chimmichurri and some onions. Pork ribs - excellent sauce but felt like they were taken off the smoker a bit early. Meat didn't come off the bone easily. Lamb bacon ribs, tad disappointed in the seasoning, flavor was unique but not very forward. However meat was very soft. Lamb chop - well executed, nicely seasoned. Thus this fell a bit below the grandeur I was expecting. The prices are fair, the food is overall great. Is it worth the experience? I'd say so read more

The first bbq I tried in Austin. Very impressed . This place puts a Mediterranean twist on this bbq and the flavors articulated themselves beautifully. Only thing i wasn't a huge fan of the brisket because it was a bit oily and too fatty for my liking. The ribs, salad beef bowl thing, mac and cheese, and potato salad were all top notch. Fast and friendly service. Food is obviously on the pricier side but that's all bbq places here. read more

Unsure if it was an off day or not but honestly this visit was not it. We were one of the first people in line (arrived at 10:40AM). There's not a whole lot of shade near the truck itself but staff provided umbrellas to those waiting in line. Unsure if they do this every time or not but I think it was a super nice gesture and makes sure everyone stays nice and cool. Upon getting our food we noticed we were missing a lamb chop, we went back to the window and staff gave us one pretty quickly. Now this part is partially on us too as we didn't notice we were also missing our rice pudding. I feel a bit frustrated that we came early and they were not as thorough. The Mac and cheese is standard, not terrible but not amazing. The baladi salad is sooooooo good, i honestly wish I would have gotten more to take home. It's simple but so refreshing and helps to cut through the fattiness of the meats. My SIL And I both got a pita, I got the lamb and she got the chicken. Her pita was good but didn't have the salad on top(unsure if it comes with salad on top or not but it tasted better with it). The chicken had a nice Smokey flavor that was further highlighted by the yogurt sauce. It was soooooo good. Would recommend getting this item. The lamb pita was... not great. When I picked it up my hands were covered in grease. The top half with the salad and yogurt sauce was great but the bottom half was filled with so much grease. I poured the grease into my bowl and it covered the bottom. The lamb for this first piece wasnt too bad but a little more on the dry side. Somehow the second piece had even more grease than the first one. I ripped a small piece off of the bottom of the pita and the grease came flooding out. To top it all off the lamb was so dry which is wild how something can be that dry when it's swimming in so much grease . It was rough and chewy, I just couldn't finish it. Which is a shame because the pita, sauce, and salad were super good The ribs were also not that great, which I remember really liking them on my first visit here. It could have been the piece I got but the meat was so dry and chewy. The first time I tried them the meat was so moist and had a slightly sweet flavor. The lamb chop was good, it was on the medium rare side so if you don't like rarer meat maybe skip this one. The brisket was good but on the fattier side. I don't think they give you an option of lean or fatty brisket so keep that in mind when you order. The lamb shoulder was a mixed bag. Some of the pieces were moist and others were dry. Sauces and chimichurri are good would recommend them and the pita. Overall pretty disappointed by this visit and don't think I'd come back again. read more

This is by far the best fusion barbecue place I have ever eaten at. There were so many items to choose from, but the Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs are the top sellers. Unfortunately, the lamb chops were sold out by the time we arrived around 1 PM, so the owner recommended the Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs instead. For a party of three, we ordered a variety of dishes that were more than enough for five people. The brisket, Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs, and lamb ribs were all incredibly tender and delicious. The Egyptian mac and cheese and pink buttermilk potato salad were good as well, but they could have used a bit more salt or flavor. This is a food truck with outdoor seating, so it's a great place to bring pets. The staff was also nice as recommended all the items that they thought were good for us. They also offer a brisket-making class to teach you how to prepare brisket. I definitely recommend visiting this place to enjoy the fusion of Texas barbecue and Egyptian cuisine. read more

KG BBQ is doing something truly special in Austin. We were blown away by how well they fuse Texas barbecue with Egyptian flavors--it's unlike anything else in the city. We had the brisket seasoned with Egyptian spices, and it was phenomenal. Perfectly smoked, ridiculously tender, and packed with bold, warm flavors that added a whole new dimension to classic Texas brisket. The lamb kafta was just as impressive--juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. The seasoning was spot on, and the smoky char took it over the top. But the real surprise? The Egyptian Mac & Cheese. Creamy, rich, and topped with za'atar, which gave it this herby, slightly tangy kick that made it totally addictive. Easily one of the best mac and cheeses I've ever had. On top of all that, the service was friendly, and you can tell they put a ton of care into everything they make. Here in east Austin, off the corner of Airport blvd @ Manor td resides Oddwood Brewing and the KG BBQ trailer. The story of Chef Kareem is certainly unique, of someone living in Cairo, Egypt to move here to Austin over a passion for bbq. KG BBQ offers a different style of smoked meats along with his other dishes. I ordered the brisket, pomegranate pork ribs, mediterranean rice, and Egyptian mac & cheese. You must order these meats in 1/2lb sizing only. The menu also offers Shawarma Pitas, Lamb Ribs, Lamb chops,, Lamb shoulder, chicken kebab and rice bowls. Waiting in line on a busy Saturday was only about 30min. Plenty of outdoor seating available with canopy shade & fans from the hot Texas sun. Parking is non existent, so you will likely park in the nearby side streets. The brisket had a lighter flavor to it with a different type of smoke. Brisket was cooked well but just had no bark to it. The pomegranate ribs were tender but not much bark or strong pepper. You can tell there is a different mixture of rub seasoning used besides the typical Texas hard black pepper. Mediterranean rice with the nuts had lack of flavor. I didn't care for the Egyptian mac & cheese at all. Tasted like pasta shells in a tomato cream sauce, that I didn't care for. If you are looking for a unique style of bbq cooking, KG bbq is an excellent option especially with their Lamb offerings/. The menu offers a variety of options you won't see at most bbq joints. I'm more of a hardcore Texas salt & pepper bbq style preference, but I would still come back here to get a bbq meal. Austin has a long list of top bbq places, so you kinda have to want this different style of bbq menu. read more

BBQ in the Lone Star State meets Middle Eastern flavors. A life-changing combo and one of my top recs for locals, visitors, and everyone in between. Geniusly, it's a natural fit, KG BBQ is truly a masterpiece. Chef KG brought his experience in cooking traditional Egyptian dishes to the bustling BBQ city of Austin where he learned from various well-known pitmasters and other professionals in the BBQ industry. KG BBQ - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

KG BBQ is unlike any other BBQ experience in Austin -- a bold and beautiful fusion of Texas-style smoking and Egyptian flavors, all from the mind (and pit) of a true Egyptian cowboy. The star of the show? The lamb chops. Smoky, tender, and perfectly seasoned -- they hit that sweet spot between Texas BBQ tradition and spice. Add in their creamy, rich mac and cheese, soft house pita, and a variety of flavorful dips, and you've got a feast that's both comforting and totally unique. But the surprise favorite? The hibiscus mint iced tea. I dream about it. Refreshing, floral, a little tart, a little sweet -- it's one of the most memorable drinks I've ever had from a BBQ spot, period. The vibe is relaxed, the food is outstanding, and the pitmaster is one of the most passionate and friendly around. KG BBQ isn't just serving amazing food -- it's bringing cultures together over fire and smoke. A must-try in Austin. read more

A Tex-Egyption Fusion: Highs and Lows at a Top 50 BBQ Truck When a food truck--even one stationed right next to Odd Wood Brewing and sporting a Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ banner--decides to fuse classic Central Texas smoke with an Ethnic Egyptian flair, you know you're in for a culinary adventure. Our recent visit proved that while this eclectic approach yields incredible, flavor-forward successes, it also highlights some traditional shortcomings. The Meats: Fusion Stars and a Traditional Flop The biggest disappointment of the night was the Brisket. For a highly-rated Texas establishment, this was a critical miss. The meat was very chewy and dry, and sadly, was virtually flavorless. If you come seeking that classic, melt-in-your-mouth Texas Brisket experience, you're better off ordering one of the globally-inspired cuts. But the specialty items? They were nothing short of brilliant. The Sumac and Cinnamon Lamb Shoulder was the undisputed star of the menu. This was a beautifully nice juicy mixture--tender lamb perfectly balanced by the warm, slightly tangy sumac and cinnamon spices. It was flavorful, moist, and demonstrated the true potential of this culinary mash-up. Equally impressive were the Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs. This is a niche rib flavor that genuinely elevates the flavor profile. The reduction provides a delightful zest taste that cuts through the pork's richness, making for a complex and highly addictive bite. The glaze is a fantastic, unexpected way to brighten up a barbecue classic. The Dessert: A Sweet Finish To round out the meal, the Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding provided an exceptional finish. It was very creamy, rich with subtle cardamom, and topped with a nice crunchy topping of pistachios, giving a satisfying contrast in textures. Verdict This food truck is not about traditional perfection; it's about daring innovation. You should skip the brisket entirely, but if you're looking for barbecue that excites the palate and ventures far beyond the familiar, the lamb shoulder and pomegranate ribs are must-try, award-worthy dishes that showcase a thrilling new direction for Texas BBQ. read more

Really great experience at this Austin icon. Arrived at 12:15pm on a rainy cold Thursday in January and there was no line at all! We were able to order right away, and our food was out within 5 minutes. Incredible. We got a pita and two of their signature rice bowls (one Brisket and one lamb). The bowls were packed with rice, meat, tahini sauce, almonds, cashews, pomegranate seeds and fresh veggies. Almost too much going on, but the flavors were absolutely fantastic. They danced together as well as I could have hoped! With tip I paid about $28 for a relatively small bowl, but I was surprised at how filling it was. I also do believe that the effort and creativity that goes into the food is worth the price. It was quite cold outside so we chose to sit inside the brewery next door, which is an awesome option! All accounted for, this is a great spot! It didn't blow me away, but I can certainly recommend it! read more

Egyptian flavor meets Texas heat! This is my second time trying KG BBQ. The first time I got the brisket bowl and the flavor was off the charts. I decided to try it again in person vs delivery. I got the brisket with Egyptian macaroni & cheese . My brisket was not super flavorful as I expected compared to my previous experience with the brisket bowl. My macaroni & cheese was good, it is a very unique balance of ingredients to create a great flavor. My wait time was really long, but I do not regret it. Next time I come back , I will just order the bowl. read more

If I could give KG BBQ 5.5 stars I would! Let's go back and start where I found the Egyptian Cowboy... Netflix! The show fall BBQ Showdown where I got to see his pit master skills. I was impressed with the flavors he presented and how far he got in the competition with his cultures spin on BBQ, which was great to see. I was even more so excited to find out that he was located in Austin so I had to tap in ! I placed my order a solid hour and 30 minutes in advance (knew the wait times could be a beast) and was not disappointed when I swung by for pickup. Despite being a food truck, the vibe was electric--a buzzing hub of fellow BBQ enthusiasts, all drawn by the tantalizing aromas and friendly energy. I had a few convo's with people from Chicago who were visiting and over heard a lot of languages being spoken, which let me know KG's BBQ draws people from all over! I started my feast with the 1 1/2 lb Lamb Bacon Ribs for $18.00. To me these weren't your average ribs--each bite delivered a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, with the rich, smoky flavor of lamb perfectly complemented by the crisp, savory kick of bacon. The careful note of "with no nuts" was me not wanting the extra garnish on my rib. Next up was the 1 1/2 lb Smoked Chicken Kebab for $15.00. The chicken was smoked and grilled to literal perfection, boasting a juicy, tender texture and that deep, charred essence you only get from true BBQ masters. The seasoning on this chicken tasted like a deep middle Eastern flavor that took me to a time I shared a meal with an old friend from Afghanistan and his family. With me being a sauce connoisseur I had to give their sauces a try. The BBQ pomegranate based style sauce offered a refreshing twist--its tangy, slightly sweet burst of flavor beautifully contrasted the robust meats. And then there was the Tahini sauce, a creamy, nutty complement that paired exquisitely with every morsel, including the perfectly grilled sausage that rounded out my order. Not to mention the red pickled onions and chimichurri to complement everything. What really made the visit stand out, aside from the epic food, was the top-notch customer service. The crew at KG BBQ was friendly, efficient, and clearly passionate about what they do, ensuring my order was hot and ready when I arrived--no fuss, no delays. I only waited about 5 additional minutes. KG BBQ truly stands out and I can appreciate KG standing on buisness with incorporating his culture in an Austin that dares you to be different. read more

I really liked this food truck because of the uniqueness of flavors. It's an Egyptian and Texas bbq fusion food truck, so there's always hype here. The lamb rack was probably the most unique, and also the sides. Can't go wrong with any of the meats though. read more

KG BBQ - Lamb rack, brisket, pork ribs, sides - Egyptian Near Me - Austin, Texas

KG bbq is legit and I absolutely love this place! I arrived shortly before opening on a weekday and only had a few people in line in front of me (this was a few months ago and may not be the same situation now). I ordered a ton of items on the menu because I wanted to try as much as possible. First off, everything you order here is loaded with great flavor! I'm a sucker for Mediteranean/Middle Eastern food and KG did not disappoint. The lamb chops were juicy, pork ribs were sweet and so tender, pulled lamb was tasty, sausages had great snap, and do not leave without ordering the lamb bacon ribs. MY GOD. Might be the best ribs ever!!! They are tender, savory and sweet, fatty, and I don't how else to describe them. You just need to order them! Oddly enough, while I enjoyed both the fatty and lean brisket, I felt it paled in comparison to the other meat offerings. Probably the best "value" item if you are looking for one item that summarizes KG bbq would be their rice bowls. It comes with rice, meat of your choice (I got the kofta which was amazing), tahini sauce, spiced mixed nuts, and cucumber tomato salad. It is an explosion of flavor! They use a lot of cinnamon, sumac, and pomegranate which gives the bbq a unique and yummy taste. If you love bbq, you will love KG! Pro tip: Grab a beer at Oddwood Brewing while you are there! read more
