KG BBQ has been our dining bucket list for some time, but we just have not made time until today. In 2025, KG BBQ earned the Michelin Gourmand designation and so well deserved. Today was the day for experimental dining at KG BBQ. Sammie, the food truck manager, suggest we get a bowl as it came with two meats and an opportunity to experience all the flavors at once. So we decided on the rice bowl with lamb and chicken. Let just say the portions were huge, dense and hearty...easily enough for 2-3 people. It felt like we had 5 pounds of food in the bowl. The meats were moist, vegetables fresh and aromatic and sauces intoxicating. It was a flavor and texture explosion in your mouth...yum to the nth degree. Now let's talk about the pomegranate hibiscus tea. In Egypt, when you enter a hotel you are often given hibiscus tea as a welcoming gesture. This mint hibiscus tea was even better than any I have drank in Egypt. It was not sweet but bursting with flavor and the perfect amount of ice. At opening a line had already formed and folks were patiently waiting...casual atmosphere.
I wanted to try their rice bowls after hearing praises about it. I opted for the brisket. It was so good! All the flavors from all the components balanced out well. I liked the pomegranates! I wish the nuts were a little smaller though (it was a little difficult to eat with everything else going on) and that there were more pieces of brisket. It was hot, so I decided to eat inside the bar + they have soda you can buy. The bbq definitely lives up to the hype!
Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in] We placed an online order for pickup on a Saturday and the earliest available time was 2 hours out. A couple of things to note: they charge a 10% online order service charge and a 3% credit card surcharge. When I got to the pickup window they asked if I wanted the food to go or dine in, and we chose to dine in so we could eat it fresh. They had to go containers available at the truck if you needed them. The portions looked small but were actually pretty filling. 1/2 lb Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs ($17): Came with 2 ribs that were okay. They were a little dry and lacking flavor on their own but tasted much better dipped in the pomegranate barbecue sauce. Combo Rice Bowl ($20): Came with mediterranean yellow rice, baladi salad, sauce, protein, cinnamon candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. For the combo, you get to choose 2 proteins. I went with brisket and kofta (ground beef and lamb). Both were really good but a tad salty so the baladi salad helped balance that out. Egyptian Cowboy ($15): I chose lamb for this and it was the star of the show. The pulled lamb shoulder was incredibly tender and flavorful. The smoked mac and cheese was really good too but the rich bechamel was a bit much for us. The sumac pickled onions helped balance out the heaviness of both the mac and cheese and the lamb shoulder. Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding ($9.50): Pricey for rice pudding but I wanted to try the unique flavor. It was light but the cardamom flavor was strong. Interesting to try once but I wouldn't order it again.
Such an unassuming food truck, but don't let that fool you. This spot is a hidden gem! Michelin rated, high quality BBQ. Love the Egyptian twist. The flavors of everything were spectacular. Stand out was definitely the mediterranean rice. I would have never thought to mix BBQ with rice, but this works. The soft tender meat with the delicious sides makes the perfect bite. Delicious meal!
This Egyptian BBQ food truck was so good and such a unique find. We got the brisket bowl, the cowboy mac and cheese with brisket, and the pork ribs, and everything was delicious. The brisket bowl was definitely the standout for me. It was so different from anything I've had before--it even had cranberries in it--but all the flavors came together perfectly. The cowboy mac and cheese with brisket was really good too, but I'd probably get the bowl again next time. The pork ribs were the best bite of the whole meal. They fell right off the bone and were so soft and tender. We split everything between two people and were completely stuffed by the end. Such a fun spot.
KG BBQ is unique and it is BOMB. I came by after work one day since I'd heard friends rave about this place and it got a Michelin rec in 2024. It's a simple looking black food truck in a busy parking lot, and the day I came was a Saturday when it was raining fairly heavily. Despite that, the lot was mostly full but there were a few spots available. There were about 5-6 people in line ahead of me and a few others still waiting for their food. I ordered the pita which you can request to do 1/2 and 1/2, so I got 1/2 brisket and 1/2 kofta. The kofta was certainly unique but I didn't like it as much as the brisket which was absolutely delicious and prepared so well. It comes with cubed marinated veg and a yogurt sauce to pour on if you get take away. I also ordered the cardamom pistachio rice pudding because I love those flavors and it was very smooth, not too sweet, and easy to eat. I'd love to go back to try the Dum Ali sometime. Overall absolutely would rec a visit to KG if you like bbq, the Egyptian flare to it is super cool and it's delicious! The staff are also so friendly.
Earlier this month, I arrived at KG BBQ early when there was no line and ordered the Lamb Bowl, Mediterranean rice, pulled lamb shoulder, baladi salad, (classic Texas buttermilk with roasted beet puree, fresh dill, jalapenos, and celery), tahini, candied nuts and pomegranate seeds and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, I was able to have a little chat with KG and I told him about my dissatisfaction with the Lamb Chop as it was a little too rare for my satisfaction and he explained that the Lamb Chops are grilled medium-rare, like a steak and that I should try the Lamb Bacon Ribs. Well, the other day, I ordered the Lamb Bacon Ribs with their chimichurri on the side and I was not disappointed. I definitely plan to return to feast on my favourite, the Za'atar and Pomegranate Pork Ribs.
This is the kind of place that neither the meats or the sides outshine the other because both are well done. I loved the freshness and balance the pomegranate glaze and the beet labneh gave the pork and brisket. I genuinely still think about the beet labneh - it wasn't something I expected to order from a BBQ place and now I miss it if I get BBQ elsewhere. The Mac was perfectly cheesy and the brisket didn't disappoint. Located at a brewery, a cold pint makes a perfect pairing.
Surprisingly not too bus on Saturday lunch! We got some lamb chops, brisket, salad, and rice. We left full and happy :D
This place was beyond amazing!!!!! I don't really like lamb chop like that, but I love the lamb chop here!!! their salads are also amazing!! service was wonderful!!! such a cool hangout spot! I would definitely come back again!!
One has to respect anyone who fuses near middle eastern flavors with Texas bbq so well. The smoked lamb chops and chimichurri style sauce are phenomenal. The brisket bowl the most creative and memorable brisket dish I've ever tasted Can't wait to try more when I return 5/5 would go out of my way to visit
I've been waiting to write this review. I can't seem to find the right words when it comes to this location. First off, it's in a parking lot. Very convenient to find, not to overly busy at the time that we went. We ordered a ton of stuff. We got pretty much the whole menu and boy did it not disappoint. It's a very quaint space with picnic tables and you share it with others so that was really fun to mingle around. Now the food - I absolutely love the flavors they had on all of the items! We got the brisket, za'atar pom glazed pork ribs, lamb chops, cowboy Egyptian mac n cheese, sumac cinnamon lamb shoulder aaaaand the cardamom pistachio rice pudding... MY GOODNESS it was delicious. The flavors are so unique, it's nothing I've ever experienced. Highly highly highly recommend, 10/10
The most unique bbq I've ever had with an incredible combination of flavors and cultures, this is a must stop when visiting Austin! The rice bowls are truly one of the most unique things I've eaten, every bite is a mix of flavors and textures that complement each other so well. And that Mac and cheese, omg the Egyptian spices add to the rich cheese sauce and leave you wanting another bite. Not your typical Texas bbq, but a good change up that's a must try!

I've been circling this place for awhile, but was deterred by the line (sometimes that's a good sign). Here's the breakdown after one committed visit: The line appeared acceptable (hitting the near corner of the fence) around 1:30pm on a Friday, so we jumped in. Over an hour later, we arrived at the counter, and about half the menu was sold out. No matter, some great items remained. My friend ordered their much renowned Brisket Bowl and I was too hungry to decide so ordered everything else. After ordering, food took another 30+ minutes to arrive. The Pomegranate Glazed Pork Ribs were moist and the seasoning is truly unique with excellent BBQ sauce. Looking forward to trying the Lamb Chops next time (on a MUCH slower day). The Lamb Shoulder is like a pulled pork but more lamby, unfortunately a little dry. The Egyptian Baladi Salad with Feta was fresh & beautiful, tasting of the Mediterranean. Not so impressed with the Mac n Cheese but that's not why we're here so goals for next time are more lamb & Kofta. After all, took over 2 hours on the dining experience, so this was not for the faint of heart. Indoor/outdoor seating at the neighboring Oddwood Brewing keeps people entertained, and they do carry out. read more

Very interesting take on BBQ. I would more describe this as middle-eastern/Egyptian BBQ with some American components as opposed to American BBQ with Egyptian flair. It was great to have and taste something so different compared to Terry Black's for example. The food was fantastic. I would definitely come back! read more
Wanted to leave an updated review since I've been here a few times since my last review. My family was in town so I wanted them to try out KG BBQ and I'm so glad I brought them here. We came on a Saturday around 1:30 and I will say the line was a little crazy but they agreed it was well worth it when they tried the food. Since the food truck is right next to a pizzeria/brewery lots of people will go inside and order a beer to drink while they wait it line. We ordered a bunch of everything and there wasn't a single miss. Our favorites were the smoked lamb chops and the pomegranate ribs. So so good. All of the sides are fantastic too. You really can't go wrong here! They have a good amount of outdoor picnic bench seating and once we did get our order in, it only took about ten minutes for our food to come out. Totally recommend this spot! read more

KG bbq had a pop up at Axelrad in Houston and I decided to give them a try. They had recently been awarded a Michelin bib gourmand and are from Austin, so I thought I should go since I won't be going to Austin that often. They specialize in Egyptian style bbq with a Texas twist, which is a version that you would rarely find anywhere. I was sad to find out that they didn't bring their whole menu, as I wanted to also try their pomegranate and zaatar glazed pork ribs, Mac and cheese, and pitas. I got the brisket and lamb rice bowls, a lamb chop, and the pink buttermilk potato salad. The rice bowls came with baladi salad (tomato, cucumber, red onion), tahini, candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. The veggies and nuts added a more crunchy texture and made it taste more fresh. However, I thought it was the meat that was lacking in the rice bowls. The brisket was cubed and I thought it was a little tough and lacking in flavor. The lamb shoulder was also a little tough but did have a lot of flavor. My favorite part of the meal was definitely the lamb chop. They seasoned it soo well. The meat was very tender and they provide a chimichurri sauce and onions to eat with the lamb chop. The potato salad had roasted beet puree, fresh dill, jalapeños, and celery. It tastes similar to a regular potato salad, except more creamy and less of the tangy taste. When I first came, there were 2 lines, one for walk ins and one for preorders. I was a walk in but was led to the preorder line. They understood the mistake and let me order. I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes just to get to the front to order. When lamb calls, I answer, and I answer hungry. TL;DR: KG BBQ isn't just a food truck, it's a lamb-chop-laced fever dream kissed by cumin and backyard pitmaster magic. I parked across the street and walked into a smoky Egyptian oasis. The lamb was thick, smoky, and glorious. The salad? Crisp. The dessert? A sweet pistachio-laced pyramid of joy. 8 down, 42 to go. Let me paint you a picture: It's mid-afternoon in Austin, the Texas heat is whispering sweet BBQ nothings, and I'm on a mission: lamb chops or bust. I rolled up to KG BBQ, the food truck that dares to blend Texas smoke with Egyptian spice. Parking was tighter than a brisket wrap, so I hoofed it across the street like a man on a quest. But you know what they say, if the parking is easy, the food probably isn't worth it. A short line had gathered, clearly aware that this wasn't your average smoked-meat stand. This was smoked meat with hieroglyphic swagger. Now, I spent a chunk of my childhood Down Under, where lamb is practically a food group. When I see lamb on a menu, the choice is made before my boots hit the pavement. KG's lamb chops were the crown jewels. Bone-in beauties, thick as a Texas twang, smoked to a perfect medium, dripping in juice and kissed with a spicy chimichurri that made me question every life choice that didn't lead me to this very moment. I didn't just eat them, y'all, I communed with them. But I'm a gentleman, so I brought something home for my wife, the Side Dish Queen. First, the Baladi Salad: fresh tomato, cucumber, red onion, with a tangy vinegar punch and a whisper of cumin. She gave it a nod of approval so fast I knew it was a winner. Then came the Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding. Rich, creamy, lightly spiced, and topped with a crunchy crown of crushed pistachios. And as for the lamb? Let's just say, I didn't bring any home. She doesn't like lamb anyway... which is exactly what I was counting on. KG BBQ is what happens when global flavors take a sabbatical in Texas and discover a smoker. It's food with soul and swagger. We arrived on a Saturday around 2pm thanks to some tips from other reviews that suggested a later arrival to avoid the longer lines. In our case, they were spot on. We got in line with only 3-4 people in front of us and they still had the full menu available. The staff was super helpful with answering our newbie questions and helped guide us to things they thought we would like. After ordering, we were able to easily find a table on the patio and waited for our food. The food arrived and it was good. The staff recommended that we try the bowls to get a fair sampling of things and that is what we did. I had the lamb, and my Wife chose brisket for her protein. I do wish that my lamb had a more well.... lamb flavor to it. Having had some fantastic lamb in my past, I was really hoping to relive that taste. If I am being honest, if it weren't for the textural difference, I wouldn't have been able to tell it apart from my Wife's brisket. My Wife's brisket was okay as well. It wasn't "stop what you are doing right now and go get some" good, but it was good. Other than that nitpick though, the bowls were good. Well seasoned, and the rice really was the star of that bowl. The sides we chose were the Egyptian mac and cheese and the rice pudding for dessert. The mac and cheese was okay, and the rice pudding was my choice for the stand out of the meal. Not too sweet, but sweet, and don't skimp on the pistachios, which they didn't. Overall, I'm glad we came to try them out. read more

Shredded Lamb...that is all that matters in life. After wanted to check this place out for some time, we finally made it, the day after the Michelin ratings came out. Luckily, the line seemed to be about consistent with what others have said. We showed up on a Saturday at 12 and waited about 30 mins or so in line (with food coming out about 5 mins later. I ordered the shredded lamb bowl along with the special smoked tri tip. I was also able to try the brisket as well. For the most part, the tri tip and brisket were good, but nothing you can't get at any other bbq spot around town (and I would most likely not come back for). The lamb though...that was a total game changer. The amount of flavor that is packed into this meet can not be compared to anything else. Looking back, I wish I ordered all of the lamb options just to try it all different forms. If you are looking for regular bbq, there are probably other spots, but if you are coming for the Egyptian flavors, this is it! read more
Thinking about trying KG BBQ? DO IT! This food truck recently won a Michelin Bib Gourmand award and I found out why. The line forms outside and moves fairly quick. You place your order and receive a buzzer for when your platter is ready. There are top-go containers, utensils and water all readily and easily accessible. There is tons of outdoor seating and the food truck is parked in the lot of a brewery so you can enjoy a drink too. The pomegranate pork ribs were my favorite. The sweet but tart bbq sauce added tons of flavor to the tender meat that came right off the bone. The brisket was also perfectly cooked and jalapeño cheddar sausage was a comforting Texas bbq meat. For sides, you have to try the rice. The aromatics leave you craving more and the nut toppings add a fun texture contrast. All the ingredients taste full of freshness and love. read more

Really great place! I really enjoyed it. There were sooo many flavors. The place is a little food truck, but seating is all around. The line is long, but it is worth the wait! The service was really kind and quick. The bowl was just beautiful looking and so good. Giving it a 4/5 instead of 5 because I got the kofta rice bowl, and the meat itself was t as flavorful as I was expecting. Still really good, I just think I would try the brisket next time. So much is great about this food truck. The staff is great, interacting with customers and entertaining people in line, all while making great menu recommendations. Not your traditional BBQ! Some many interesting Mediterranean flavored items . Pomegranate seeds anyone? The lamb chops were cooked absolutely perfect. Brisket rice bowl was a standout as well. Doesn't get better than this. I came here after seeing a Bon Appétit video on YouTube, and WOW--this place lives up to the hype. The meats were absolute perfection--tender, flavorful, and literally falling off the bone. We ordered the brisket, bacon lamb ribs, kebab chicken, and lamb shoulder. Each one was great, but the bacon lamb ribs stole the show. I don't usually go for lamb, but these changed my mind. Unreal. We also tried several sides: mac & cheese, rice, potato salad, and the house salad. Honestly, I never go for rice, but theirs was so delicious it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the meal. The mac & cheese was rich and creamy, and the potato salad had a perfect balance of tang and texture. To drink, we had the hibiscus mint tea--super refreshing, especially in the brutal Texas heat (and even better if you're a little hungover). The service was fast, which is a major plus compared to the hour-long waits you get at other BBQ joints. The vibe is super laid-back and relaxed, even in the sweltering summer heat. They've got misting fans outside to keep things cool, and there's an indoor space with A/C if that's more your speed. The indoor area doubles as a food and beer hall, giving it a fun, communal feel. We also got to chat with the owner, who was incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about his craft. If you're visiting Austin, you have to put KG BBQ on your list. This Egyptian BBQ blends the best parts of both regions to make one delicious plate of food! It's a popular food truck connected to a brewery so you can enjoy a cold one with your food. It's a very popular place so we recommend getting this when it opens. We ordered the brisket, a lamb chop, lamb ribs and the Mac and cheese. The plate also came with pomegranate BBQ sauce and chimichurri sauce. I like how the chimichurri made everything lighter and refreshing. The pomegranate gave the sauce a hint of sweetness that i liked. Now the meat.... Oh.... My.... Goodness! The brisket was nice a moist and the lamb ribs has an amazing flavor. The lamb chop was also good, but the brisket and ribs were the highlight. The Mac and cheese was topped with lamb as well as and was creamy, cheesy goodness. I can understand why now they always have a long line. read more
Wow, what an unexpected treat. We are visiting Austin and our Uber driver told us about KG BBQ. We were lucky and arrived before the line was long, but that soon changed. We ordered a veggie rice bowl, Mac and cheese, pink potato salad, baladi salad, Mediterranean rice, and a combo chicken/brisket bowl. The food is so tasty! All of us were Mmmming. So much flavor and great presentation. Even if the line is long, it is definitely worth the wait. read more
A BBQ spot with a Michelin Bib Gourmand rating? A BBQ spot where Egyptian flavors meet Texas BBQ traditions? I'd wanted to try KG BBQ for a while, and then this past Saturday, we just happened upon it! (The food truck is located at Oddwood Brewing, and we stopped by for a few drinks and were surprised to see KG there!) We decided to try a few things: 1/2 lb of sumac & cinnamon lamb shoulder, smoked kofta (ground beef and lamb), and "Egyptian mac n cheese" (smoked mac and cheese with a rich bechemel, tomato garlic sauce, and fresh basil). Everything was pretty good! I'm not sure I got much of the sumac and cinnamon on the lamb shoulder, but I enjoyed the cook/smoke on the lamb. I thought the kofta was a bit dry, but when dipped in either their yoghurt or tahini sauces, it was good, too. The mac and cheese and different and interesting - definitely a fun play on a BBQ side classic. The food was really fast (we were there very late on a Saturday afternoon - sort of between meals), and it was a really fun, delicious meal while enjoying some time with family at the brewery. I'd be happy to return and would love to try their pomegranate glazed pork ribs, lamb bacon ribs, their pink buttermilk potato salad, and more! KG BBQ is doing something different from every other bbq spot in the city, and it's great to see and taste their take on their own heritage mixed with Texas BBQ traditions. We got here about 20 minutes before opening and we were the 3rd family in line. Shortly after about 15 other groups joined the line. That's a good sign, right? One note on service, we got called out by one of the workers for 'disrupting the line'. But if they don't want the line swerving into the parking lot... maybe put a menu where the line is supposed to form. Anyway. The food was great. The three of us ordered a half pound of the lamb ribs, brisket and pork ribs. Along with the rice and potato salad. Each of us got a tea and that was the highlight of my meal. read more

Amazingly unique BBQ! All the flavors are so unique and delicious. There's really nothing quite like it. I was recommended to come here by my barber and man was I impressed. My girlfriend who doesn't typically love BBQ all that much really enjoyed it as well. Strong recommendation of you're looking for Texas BBQ with a twist. read more

I am shocked this is the first time I have had Egyptian BBQ because the way KG BBQ accomplished this fusion was amazing. I'm truly surprised there are not more spots that are doing this. For four hungry people, we had the... - Half Rack of Lamb Chops - This is a must. It was pretty Amazing. Would maybe even consider a full rack and skip out on the brisket next time. - Pink Buttermilk Potato Salad - Very unique with he Roasted Beat Puree, we loved it! - Egyptian Baladi Salad - I feel like you have to get this to balance the meal with some fresh veggies! - Mediterranean Rice - I liked having the rice on the side - Some yoghurt and Pita - Which I ordered on the side separately - Sumac & cinnamon lamb shoulder - Was also fantastic - Specialty Sausage of the Day - Solid - Brisket - Tasted like your classic Texan Brisket, the other dishes were more of the stars of the show. The wait was about 25 minutes when we came just at opening time on Saturday. The Service is great (they were happy to accommodate some of the random add ons we asked for) and the Ambience was cool because it was right on the same lot as a bar where you can order a nice cold beer with your BBQ. read more

We dined in on a Thursday around 4-5pm, got lucky and had virtually no line. Service was quick, but not very personable with my friend and I. Cashier was very friendly with the person in front and even walked through each item, thank god for eavesdropping lol My friend got a beer and I ordered the hibiscus mint tea (not pictured). We sat in the very busy indoor to avoid the heat. The vibes were very much young families trying to lay off steam after work and trendy influencers getting content... We chose to get a half pound of brisket and pork ribs, and a single lamb bone. A cup of each of the sides, except the rice- which now I regret not trying, it looked really great. Mint Hibiscus tea 8/10, sweet and refreshing. $5 for a 12oz was pushing it though I personally enjoyed all of the sides and the bbq sauce was a favorite. There was a hint of cinnamon in the sauce, very different from traditional bbq but well executed. The baladi salad was light and refreshing, a bit heavy on a cumin taste. 7/10 The pink potato salad was tasty and the serving was more than plenty to share 8.5/10 The Mac n Cheese was my favorite, super unique taste but it just worked together 9/10 Brisket was nice and juicy, tender and perfectly seasoned 10/10 Pork ribs were sooo good, falling off the bone and the pomegranate glaze omg 10/10 Lamb chop had great flavor, but was extra chewy.. 7/10 Overall, I'd recommend to other friends who are into spices to try it at least once. Probably would not bring any picky eaters here or that are a "plain burger" type of person. I came with a foodie friend and was surprised to hear he felt it was a bit heavy on spice. Second time at KG BBQ and still obsessed! We got the pomegranate-glazed pork ribs, smoked lamb chops with chimichurri, Egyptian baladi salad, and Mediterranean rice. The meat was cooked perfectly--so tender and flavorful. I really loved the pomegranate glaze--sweet, tangy, and super unique. The chimichurri on the lamb was herby and fresh, a great match with the smokiness. The sides were awesome too. The saffron rice with nuts and pomegranate was so good, and the salad was super fresh--nice balance to the heavier meats. It was crowded so we waited about 40 minutes in line, but once we ordered, the food came out fast. Seating was comfy and the whole vibe was worth the wait. Already planning our next visit! read more
Love the Egyptian middle eastern take on Texas bbq!! It was so good! We were lucky enough to get there before the rush and I mean the line was WRAPPED around. The food truck is next to a brewery and the seating area is quite small but we were able to share one end of a picnic table with others. The parking for me could've been a huge headache since it was such a tight squeeze to move around with traffic. We ordered the Egyptian Mac n cheese, lamb rice bowl, sumac & cinnamon lamb shoulder, and can't forget the Egyptian ice ahwa. The lamb meats had the perfect savory and spice flavor balance, tender and melt in your mouth moist. Was not a fan of the Mac and cheese, the acidity was just too high with the tomatoes in it. The most disappointing was the ahwa - I was expecting a robust and vibrant flavor with hints of cardamom or cinnamon but it was so watered down and barely any coffee flavor. I've been wanting to try this Egyptian/Texan fusion that is KG BBQ for a while! My mom and I watched Kareem on the Netflix show, Great American BBQ Showdown, so when she was in town visiting me I thought it was the perfect time to go. It was a rainy day so I was hoping that would deter the crowds when they opened at 11. I was correct! The line was super short and we ordered some pork ribs, brisket rice bowl, cup of mac and cup of potato salad. There's plenty of seating inside, covered and uncovered outside at Oddwood Ales. Service was quick and friendly and we were on our way back home. The show stopper (okay there's multiple) was the brisket rice bowl. It's beautiful and has unique flavors that mesh so well together. Their bbq sauce served on the side is thin and tasty. The potato salad with beet puree was another of our favorites. The mac was very savory and has a bit of a tomato base. Everything was super different and interesting. I was looking forward to the pomegranate pork bbq ribs, but unfortunately I ended up throwing them out. They were very tough and not very edible. Hopefully it was just an off day, but I'm glad I was finally able to try this place. read more

KG BBQ offers an amazing Egyptian fusion barbecue experience in Austin. The lamb chops, brisket, and rice bowls are standouts--tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. While weekends can get busy with long lines and items selling out, visiting on weekdays is a smoother experience. Plus, there's extra parking in the lot across the street. read more

Cute little food truck Outside of a brewery. Ordered a bowl with lamb and brisket. Loved all the nuts, cucumber, onions, pomegranate, and sauce that gave a freshness. They did not skimp on the meat, and it was perfect bite sized pieces. Service was excellent too - I'd had an issue with my online order (wrong date on accident) and they made it for me same day anyway. Also got mac though it was a bit on the mushy side but nice flavor. read more
Food truck located in a parking lot. Plenty of parking and you can online order which was nice since we were a group at work. Pricing on their website is by 1/2 lbs If it's you're first time trying this place recommend getting all the sides for $20 The rice and cucumber and tomato salad were my favorites. The Mac n cheese was divided. Some thought it was good bc of the pesto in it and others thought it was bland and runny. The brisket bowls were large and plenty for 2 meals. Also got a variety of meats. I was told by the cashier the only dairy in the meats is in the chicken because they marinate it in yogurt. The chicken was really good and moist, the pork ribs were sweet but didn't fall off the bone. The lamb ribs were also really good bc they had grizzle, can never go wrong with the brisket, all were disappointed in the kofta We got both desserts. The bread pudding had a great flavor but was very runny/gloopy. I took it home and cooked it in my air-fryer longer. it came out better and I ate it with ice cream. Honestly so good it's stupid. The brisket falls apart it's so moist, also might have been the best pork rib I've ever had in my life, the lamb bacon is fatty and amazing literally comes off the bone with your fingers, and lamb chop wasn't my favorite due to the seasoning but was delicious. I have never experienced bbq where the main meat is lamb... my mind is blown and these taste buds are happy. The flavor profiles are out of this world. This is an absolute must try. There is outside seating along with a bar. Service is fast and friendly. Did you look at those lamb chops in the pic?!?! FYI the chops sold out before 3pm when u went. read more
This place is located in the Mueler area of Austin and was walkable from my AirBnB. I remembered seeing this place featured on a BBQ show and thought it was such a unique take it. Food - The meal was a fusion of Arabic food (nut, pomegranate, cucumber, etc) and BBQ. Everything was so tasty! Meats were tender and flavorful. The rice was one of the best I've had. It is on the sweeter side but I enjoyed it. Service - Quick! I sat down inside Oddwell Brewing and a few minutes later, the buzzard thing went off. Ambiance - I ordered from a food truck outside so this is as expected. It was hot. Thank goodness it's okay to eat everything inside Oddwell, especially with a newborn with me. Overall great. Wow! This was a beautiful marriage of middle eastern essence with Texas BBQ. Well done! The pomegranate infused BBQ was delightful. The cumin delicately placed in the refreshingly cool cucumber salad and warm pita bread nicely brought this meal together. The lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection and the brisket just falls apart, you don't even need a knife. Despite a decent line, ordering was efficient and food came out at a reasonable amount of time, friendly staff and nice Austin ambience with the outdoor seating and string lights. Egyptian BBQ has made it to the top of my favorite things to eat in Austin. The flavors here make my taste buds sing. Operating out of a food truck in the parking lot of a brewery, this place, and all its flavors, packs a punch. I can see why it's so popular! By the time we rolled around, there were a number of items that were sold out, but we did manage to score some brisket and lamb chops. The brisket was moist and tender; everything you could want in a brisket. I'm a fan of lamb and those lamb chops really hit the spot. The flavor and the cook was on point. We paired this with a number of sides to round out the meal. The mac and cheese - need I say more? It was ooey gooey perfection. The baladi salad was bright, vibrant, and fresh. Pay extra for the feta. The creaminess of it will round the whole salad out. The cardamom and pistachio rice pudding was something else. I'm usually not a fan of pistachio, but paired with cardamom, I was happily blown away by this dessert. The flavors were perfectly balanced without being sweet and it was a great way to end a meat-heavy meal. I'll definitely be coming back, but at a much earlier time so my taste buds can rotate across the different meats. read more
Came in on a Sunday at noon as part of a trip to Austin Food 5/5: we got the brisket, the lamb chops, a sausage link, and the tri-tip special they had that day. Also got their potato salad and cucumber salad. Lamb chops and sausage links were great, brisket and tri-tip were average Ambiance 4/5: they have a partnership with the brewery next to where they are parked and it's a nice space to eat in and knock back a few beers. Nothing that wows about the ambiance but chill and relaxing Service 2/5: took quite a bit of time to get our food although they're pretty busy. Not sure if it's because of the partnership but not much service while eating at the brewery Value 3/5: fairly average pricing for the food they're selling, wouldn't say it's good value but it's fair. Total 4/5: didn't include ambiance and service into assessment since really it's a food truck Parking: limited spots in the parking lot, otherwise needs to park across the street, can be a pain. read more
