I've wanted to try this place for a while now. Today was that day! We arrived around lunchtime, 12:00-12:15, on. Friday. I truly expected a line out the door, but that wasn't the case. We did have a hard time finding parking, supposedly there is parking across the street, however I would avoid crossing Anderson at this particular intersection. A bit dangerous in my opinion. When you walk in you have to grab a menu, unless you e researched before hand and know what you want. You order from the cashier, I've noticed this is a newer form of ordering and maybe it's to avoid paying/having wait staff?? Anyway I digress, you order at the cashier station, pay and they give you a number AND they take your name or a name for the order. Also they ask if you will be sitting indoors or outdoors. This is noted on your order because the food is Delivered to you. I ordered the brisket smash burger with fries (an extra $3) my husband ordered the The Holy Roller which is a meat sampler plate. This plate is $25 and comes with ONE slice of Brisket, ONE Rib, four/five small pieces of sausage, and a large helping of pulled pork (cheapest meat). It would have been a much better deal to get 1/4 lb fatty brisket, 2 ribs and a sausage link. Keep the Pulled Pork. It's open seating, so grab the first table to accommodate your needs. Stopped by with a group of friends one weekend afternoon and I was glad there was no line. I saw the line dividers outside so I assume it does get crowded here. The menu is big and I love the variety. I ordered the bean and chorizo dip which was huge and delicious. I also got the holy roller so I could try multiple meats they offer and it was also a great value. You could taste the smokiness and I loved the brisket! Churchrow BBQ is located where Black Gold BBQ used to be. If you loved Valentina's BBQ, then you'll love Churchrow. The pit master from Valentina's is now at Churchrow. I ordered the Holy Roller on a Sunday for $25. Portions were large. It's a good deal including one pork rib, brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and coleslaw. The pork rib was my favorite. It's too die for and I would go back ordering only ribs. The brisket wasn't fatty like Terry Blacks of Loro, but still decent with BBQ sauce. Imagine a black and white film announcer saying..."nine months later". Yes, I was at Churchrow Tejas BBQ the first day it opened. On Sunday, a friend and I went to lunch at Churchrow located on Anderson Lane. Since its grand opening their menu offerings have expanded. It still has its charming, down home personality...very laid-back atmosphere. We both ordered the Holy Roller, which felt fitting for a Sunday. The Holy Roller is a meat sampler including the cutter's choice of 0.25 lb. of brisket, a half sausage link, one pork rib, and a taste of pulled pork. Although substitutions are discouraged, I asked to swap my brisket for ribs, and my server kindly agreed. The sampler came with pickled onions and coleslaw, and we also ordered charro beans and extra coleslaw sides. Everything was delicious, but the ribs and sausage were the standouts. Just went on Friday and saw they had smoked wings and had to give it a shot during lunch. The wings had 3 different sauce offerings and the ones I had were really good. I highly recommend giving the wings a try when they're offered. Service and ambiance is great as usual and I'm still amazed more people aren't there daily. read more

Stopped by specifically for the Real Deal Holyfield taco and ended up ordering the beef rib, barbacoa, smoked Mac n cheese, and rice. The star of the show was definitely the RDH taco. The beans were fantastic, the brisket was almost melt-in-your-mouth, and the salsa on top really tied everything together. I think we're going back next weekend for that taco lol. The beef rib was good. It was a beef rib, nothing too spectacular about it. The barbacoa was very yummy, the rice and mac n cheese were also tasty. Overall it's okay bbq; we've had better elsewhere...but I don't think I've had a better breakfast taco. Service was awesome, super attentive, super friendly. Met some friends here last week (5 of us) for dinner and enjoyed a nice evening on their front patio because the back was full of families with kids! Thankfully we got there in time to order quickly and our wait wasn't too long. You order at the register and they give you a number card that they use to locate you when your food is ready. You can can get drinks at their inside bar. Everyone was very helpful. I asked for a new aqua fresca without syrup which they obliged. We also asked them to turn down the music because it was really hard to hear out front and they did, but then it went back up again so we had to ask again which was when they mentioned it was the same sound system throughout so in the back and inside where there were more people, it was less loud. We appreciated they accommodated us when we were there so we didn't have to yell to hear each other! 3rd visit and I don't have the words to explain how perfect the bbq is here. We've officially eaten almost everything on the menu. Today it was the pulled pork empanadas that stole the show! The brisket is delicious, the chicken is probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Every taco, every side, and each dessert is thoughtfully crafted to perfection! The service is always great. The most family friendly bbq shop in Austin, I love the indoor cozier vibe coupled with the outdoor patio and playscape. It's got something for everyone. Food comes out pretty quick too. It's a bbq spot and they got a lot of the classics - holy roller gives you a sampler of their greatest hits and all were good but nothing stellar imo. Everything leans peppery for the most part as the predominant flavor profile but it's juicy without being overly fatty. This is true for the brisket, pork rib, pulled pork and sausage. Nothing really stands out among those but if I had to get just one, probably the sausage. The sides are very interesting and those were fairly good. The smashed cheesy potatoes is an extreme cheese crusted potato hash that is home fry ish but not quite the crisp - but it does have lots of soft bits. The Mac and cheese is very complex with the smoky notes but hard to eat a lot of it. Pickles are a must. My friends got drinks and said they were some of the best they've had, so looks like a great evening spot. All in all, great add to the neighborhood and would love to come back and try the Mexican specialties. read more

All the way from Star Bar on West 6th, Churchrow is Pitmaster Miguel's Redemption Story. Another review mentioned the wait time (which wasn't my experience, but they're also not officially open yet). The spot is beautiful, the vibe is strong, the drink menu includes a good variety of beers and a sophisticated mezcal/tequila-forward drink menu. I had a perfect margarita from Chet in the "3-2-1", and my dream "bbq/fusion" taco in La Valentina: that homemade tortilla is a wonderful vessel for the balanced guac and some of the best brisket in the city. Last time I was in this building, it was under a different name called Black and Gold bbq. Parking during the peak lunch hour might be an issue since there's only 21 spaces, but apparently you can park at a school nearby, but only at certain times. The dining room is relatively sparse, and it looks like they kept those old uncomfortable wooden benches from the previous owners. My visit consisted of stopping in for a sliced brisket sandwich with a side of fries. That will set you back over $20 with a tip and no drink. Some yelpers have complained about the long wait times, but my order was out within 10 minutes during lunch. Each table has its own QR code, which is not necessarily meant to order your primary order, but in case you want to add additional drinks or sides later on. I have to admit I was very satisfied with the sliced brisket sandwich which had a very pronounced smoke ring and was very tender. I also definitely recommend a side of their homemade fries which are equally good and well worth the $3. Fortunately, the meat is so good that you do not need barbecue sauce, and I have to admit the sauce they serve here was not my favorite. If you're looking for lunch for around $20-30, this place would be a very good choice, especially if you like brisket. Came here for brunch on Sunday and there was no wait and plenty of parking on site. Due to inflation, the pricing on bbq is comparable to all the other bbq joints in town. I got 1/2 lbs of brisket and pork ribs with Mexican corn and the daily empanadas for appetizers. Everything was delicious, especially the empanadas. Everything together, including tip was about $80. So glad we finally have a really good bbq place in the 'hood. Bert's is good and a serious tradition, but I haven't really liked the bbq that much in recent years, especially with all the other great places in town. Churchrow has the pitmaster from Valentina's, widely know for the best brisket tacos in town. Same quality holds up here. Not only do they have great bbq, the do amazing tacos too. They also have plenty of appetizers and sides. They do an amazing burger too, made with brisket trimmings. 2 smash burgers with melting american cheese and grilled onions between the patties, on buttery homemade brioche bun. Yum! The burger is on special on Mondays. Beware that they are closed on Tuesday. The interior has a really cool vibe and the bar is excellent. They have an amazing variety of tequila, mezcal, bourbon and more. I'm pretty sure this place will make the next edition of Texas Monthly's Top BBQ Places in Texas, so get there soon before everyone else finds out. read more

I've been in twice and it was great both times. The brisket taco is the same one that they served at Valentinas and it's amazing. The pollito is great as well. A simple roasted chicken taco with slaw on it. The fajita taco wasn't quite as good as the one at Valentinas, but still delicious. The tortillas are unreal. IMO, the best tortillas in town. The tampequena was new to me but homemade corn and flour tortillas...on one plate. Those tortillas would rival any of my abuela's on any given day. It was good to see Miguel in the smokehouse just like he was when I first met him. The anticipation is worth the wait. If you want fast BBQ then hit up a local chain or pick up a vacuum seal bag at Sam's.
