Love going here. I've never had a bad item from the menu. Dessert bruschetta & scones are great appetizers. My biggest dilemma is whether i want something sweet or savory. Corned beef hash is very good. I've never had french toast with this style of bread anywhere else. It reminds me of lees sandwiches baguettes.
Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen and some of her favorite partners in crime came here to have an amazing breakfast. We had French toast with berries, a classic breakfast, scones, and the Sonoma salad. All of the entrees were beautifully presented, delicious, and fairly priced. We are already making our plans to return. By the by, the scone was one of the best I have ever enjoyed- a bit of crisp on the outside and soft and scrumptious on the inside. The end.
Super duper delicious. I had the soyrizo with potatoes and it was filling and pretty reasonably priced. My friend got the blueberry French toast and that was tasty too. Quick service and cozy diner vibes. It might be a little loud to chat when its busy but the charm is great. Make sure to come early to find Parking since its in a residential and be aware there might be a wait.
Our boss treated us to lunch for a coworker's work anniversary and he had heard great things about this place and decided to try it out. It's tucked in a neighborhood and so parking was pretty sparse but we found a spot about a block away. We came around 11:45 am during the week and we were able to get a table right away. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us some good suggestions on what to try. I ordered the roast beef and scrambled eggs-16.50, and my coworkers ordered the chorizo and apple sausage which are both $14.95. Our boss ordered for the table the San Fran stuffed French toast with seasonal berries ($14.99) to share! I really enjoyed my roast beef hash and potatoes on the side. The side of baguette bread I could have done with out since it was a bit harder to eat. The French toast was different with the baguette bread but I really enjoyed it since it didn't make the bread all soggy like other French toast can do( sad we had to share it lol).
Had a wonderful breakfast at the Starling Diner. Too loud inside for me and they have outdoor seating. Had a great rapport with our waiter. Priced just right too. New favorite!!
Food is delectable! The diner is charming! Service is superb! The staff are hospitable and prices are affordable! EAT HERE! If you're on the fence between this place and another, pick this diner! If you're worried about parking, parking sucks everywhere! Eat here! I had their basic breakfast with a side order of smoked salmon. It was perfect. The potatoes were seasoned well, and the scrambled eggs had a nice chew. Butter on a soft baguette will always be a yes for me! I also had their stuffed french toast with caramelized apples. The best french toast I've had to date. The baguette held up so well against the tender apples and creamy mascarpone. I highly recommend it!
Cute diner in a house with great service, cool vibe and amazing food. It is street parking only, we cane a Friday at 10:30 and had a slight wait and a small walk but all manageable. We started with the house Bloody Mary which had a crab claw and a kick. The micro greens were cute but not sure they had an impact on the flavor. Big hit and we loved them. Makes me want to try some other options from their cocktail menu. The must-try hyped-up French toast was worth the glory bestowed to it! We got the caramelized apples with brandy butter. Waiter said the berry or peaches are his 2 favorites but we had already narrowed down to apples or the banana Nutella. Of those 2 he said apples so we got it! Short story they are all made with fresh baguette stuffed with mascarpone cheese topped with your choice of fruit and sweet options and fresh whipped cream. I tend to lean more savory breakfast and my hubby likes the sweet so this isn't normally my jam.... But the cheese is a perfect complement to all the sweet and is something I would get again for sure, which says a lot. We got the cheeseburger scramble which was hearty and fillings. Ground beef, cheese, mushrooms and scrambled eggs, simple, easy and yummy. I personally like my eggs salty and needed to add some but my husband thought it was perfect. It was served with yummy whole small roasted potatoes that were crispy but still soft inside, perfectly seasoned IMO. Also a small slice of fresh baguette with butter (and jam on table) was a tasty plus. In fact that bread makes me want to go back for lunch to get a sandwich. All in all it is a new top spot on our list and can't wait to go back and try another cocktail, a new French toast flavor and maybe the crab cake and eggs that I saw walk by. Great find.
I would rate this spot between 3-4 stars. The service is excellent, friendly and efficient. It is a very small restaurant with limited seating. There isn't space to wait which can be awkward. Tried the Irish coffee and crab cakes. Food was ok, the sauce was a bit too overpowering. Everyone seemed to be ordering the french toast. The staff work hard to keep things moving.
I had this place bookmarked for a very long time. Finally got the chance to try it. I heard that they are very popular for their French toast. So of course we gotta try it. The French toast here was very different from the ones I normally get. They used baguettes for their French toast. We got the Caramelized apples with Brandy butter. The apples were caramelized perfectly. It wasn't so sweet like other places that I have tried. Also, it was nice that there was still a crunch to it. The apples were not super soft and mush like most places. The mascarpone or cream cheese for filling was simple but yummy. Although, they executed this item well I still prefer the original French toast breads. I like my French toast on the softer end. Baguettes required more chewing since it was not as soft. Overall, I don't mind eating it again lol We also ordered the Egg Benjamin. This was a salmon Benedict without the biscuits. I do prefer it this way. They provided a bread on the side instead. It came with some potatoes. I like the potatoes they used, but I do prefer it to be steamed. The exterior was somewhat hard. I got tired of eating it. We tried the blue crab cake as well. It was yummy, but prob something to share. I usually prefer lumps of crabs in my crab cakes. The flavor was good, but we got sick of it quick. Not sure why. Maybe too creamy?? It was good tho. Coffee was good. Normal & fresh Service was ok Parking was not bad.
The host was incredibly rude. If I wasn't so hungry I would've gone elsewhere. Food was very underwhelming in both taste and portion size. There are far too many good breakfast spots in Long Beach to bother with this one.
Was surprised to find that this little diner was located in the neighborhood would've never thought it would be here. There's plenty of street parking. We came just a little before they close got a symbol, scrambled eggs and corned, beef hash and honestly, I've had better hash didn't like how this one was prepared. It was like a burger, patty and a little too done on the outside for me in greasy. Also didn't like their breakfast potatoes, which were a huge chunks of Yukon gold potatoes felt more on the heavier side. The eggs were cooked nice and fluffy. It also came with a little piece of bread with some butter on the side. My friend ordered their basic breakfast, which is basically eggs, potatoes, and bread and at first both of our plates came out a little cold so they were nice to bring us new plates that were nice and fresh. The staff was very friendly. I probably come here again to try their other items.
Cute little diner tucked away on 3rd Street. Find street parking in the area, be sure not to block people's driveways! They have outdoor and indoor seating. Been here a couple times. They have a variety of teas, coffees, sodas annnnnnd ADULT COCKTAILS. I've had their basic breakfast which is really good, their scones are house made so they're very soft in the inside. Their blue crab cakes are good BUT their French toast is AMAZING. Not too sweet, just the right amount of fruit, we got one for the table to share and I'm pretty sure I could have ate that all on my own. They're only open til 3 and it gets crowded on weekends so hurry over!

Time to glaze this place because I have free will. This review is going to end up pretty dookie ngl because there isn't much to say. Starling is really popular and an awesome brunch spot in Long Beach. This place is a safe option I would say if ur looking for brunch spots or somewhere to eat in general. Their hot chocolate is presented super nice and tastes great. The vibe inside is charming and kind of eclectic, like a little neighborhood gem. Service was friendly and relaxed, and the menu's got a solid mix of sweet and savory options. Nothing too crazy, but it's consistent and reliable, which counts for a lot. Parking takes 2 seconds find which is a huge dub since it's on the street. Overall, Starling's that dependable brunch spot you can bring your cousin to or roll through with friends and still leave full and happy. read more

My husband loves "Triple D" (Diners, Drive-ins and Dives) spots when we travel, and I picked this gem. Cute place with outdoor seating. We were told it was going to be a 15 minute wait, so we walked around the block. Cool neighborhood and neat vibe! When we got back to the restaurant, we were seated quickly, outside. Amazing food choices. Husband picked stuffed French toast and salmon crostinis and I had to try the "amazing" scones that I had read about. It was absolutely delicious. The best scone I ever had with an epic orange custardy spread. The French toast and crostini were pretty amazing too! Great service and fun ambiance. Only downfall was canned soda, but the scones made up for it. read more

A group of us went on Saturday around 10:30 am and we had to wait about 20 minutes until the big table was cleared. I ordered the French toast with the caramelized apples... I have to say that it is the best French toast I've tasted. So warm and perfectly sweet... and can you believe I didn't even like French toasts before trying starling diner's French toast? Nice homey ambiance and the staff are friendly and accommodating. There was enough street parking on a Saturday during 10:30-11 am. Just FYI on certain weekdays there is street sweeping. I love Starling Diner, I've seriously been here over 25 times! It's just that good. I usually go for either one of their savory egg dishes or the sweet stuffed toast, both are always amazing. The food is consistently delicious, and it's always a great time dining here. Just a heads-up, if you're coming on a weekend or holiday, expect a bit of a wait. Totally worth it! read more

Had breakfast on Thursday December 12th with three of my golf Buddies and we had a great time. Wanted to bring my wife back today Friday and OSCAR would not let me see it by myself and wait for her even though she was in route to have a cup of coffee. He told me that everyone must be present even though there were empty seats all over. When I told him I was here yesterday and they sat us at different times, he said that he could not remember. I then said well can I have a cup of coffee while I wait for my wife and he said yeah but she won't be able to join you. Really wtf? Last time! Last time! Customer service is number one these days. Anybody can make bacon and eggs anywhere but absolutely ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous, that I can't be seated and order for both my wife and her without her present. Never again! Save your money and go elsewhere. Million places here in Long Beach Belmont Shore area and only came here because it was near the golf course ... but again as you can see half the place is empty. Great portion sizes and a lovely ambiance. The drinks were delicious and food came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Couldn't believe how fast service was. Parking was plentiful in the surrounding neighborhood, and we were surprised that there was no wait at 10:30 on a Saturday morning. Scones - came with a lemon sauce and butter. They were clearly fresh and very filling. Texture was a bit more biscuity however. 7/10 Pork sandwich - Came with chimichurri and a salad. The bread was super fresh, and there was a really nice balance of acidity, savory, and richness. 8.5/10 Stuffed french toast with caramelized apples - This was to die for. Absolutely a 10/10. I do not have a single complaint about this place. Everything we ate was extremely tasty! We were sat, served drinks and food with no wait time. Everything was fresh and hot. The potatoes were crispy and flavorful. The coffees were beautiful. I highly recommend this place! We had multiple people check in on us that were super friendly.... And not annoying at all! I have to admit, I avoided coming back here for quite some time due to a previous experience. On our first visit we came on a "Fall Back" clock switch day, and being that it opened at 8:00 which is later than a number of breakfast joins, and add an extra hour of sleep on top of that, many people had the same idea to arrive at opening. I remember being seated in the opening group. This business is very, very small. However, we still waited for a good forty minutes before even being served food on that visit. I also had a simple granola with yogurt and berries. Steven recalls having the french toast. I was highly annoyed and did not come back for a while. Steven chose them again a week ago, and I'm glad he did. We should have come back sooner. Despite the fact that I will usually get a savory meal for breakfast, something was telling me to go for the stuffed french toast. My "go to" is usually the mixed berry option, but sometimes I am very much rewarded for trying something "different". While the banana and nutella option was also calling me after the berry option was out, I decided to go with the stuffed french toast with peaches and butter brandy sauce. Needless to say, I "hated" it. In fact, I completely polished the plate, which rarely happens for me. I loved it!! Every bite was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Steven ordered the apple chicken sausage and eggs. (Sorry I do not remember this item name offhand but you will find it). He added jack cheese. Tip: Only do this is you are a huge cheese fan like I am, and still feel like being charged an extra $1.75 for cheese in your egg. That was a bit steep. I was going to add a side of two pieces of bacon, but not with a $5.99 price tag. I am definitely a fan now and will return to try various menu options. Just know the pricing is a little high with some stuff. We ended up spending $50 after tip for two breakfast items and two iced teas (not refilled). What is with having to hunt servers down for iced tea refills these days? read more

So thankful that my Yelp BFF introduced me to this place. The soyrizo scrambled eggs were AMAZING and I am still day dreaming about it. The eggs are perfectly cooked with a nice consistency and the soyrizo was seasoned just right. I also tried the peach french toast which was delicious. This french toast is particularly unique because it is made from a baguette vs from sliced bread so it was able to retain the crispiness. The mascapone inside is a bit tart for me but overall, it's a good dish to try. There isn't a designated parking area for this place so street parking is the only nearby option. The wait can be pretty long about an hour during peak time. Since it was busy, the service was ok. read more

My husband earned brownie points for this find.... Great diner. When you walk in you feel a part of a community and the food reflects it. Has early bird specials until 9am and menu serves dishes that bring you back to home-cooked meals with an updated take. I stayed with the classic breakfast but potatoes were herb roasted. Nice touch! This was my second visit and it did not disappoint. I was in the mood for their deluxe Bloody Mary. It has a crab claw and the spice is just right. I went with a group of 4. We all tried different dishes: crab cake and eggs, classic with poached eggs, peach French toast, and eggs Benjamin. Prices are reasonable which makes it so much more delicious. I waited on a Monday after Christmas for 2 people to sit and it took 30 minutes to sit. They brought out water and gave us menus then ordered the chai. Around 10 min later I ordered the starling club scramble. Chai was creamy and not watery. The food came out hot and cheesey (in a good way). I would recommend coming here if you haven't tried it. Got to try this establishment on a Saturday afternoon with a friend who was visiting from out of town. You can tell this was a house turned into a restaurant and that's what makes this place more special and family-like. Wait times can be a bit of a weight although, it's worth every bite. I got to try the chorizo bundle. It came in a burrito form so I was able to try the plate by bites. It comes with a side of sour cream so you get the balance of cool and slight spice. For a drink, I got to try the cranberry sparkle. Balanced drink with cranberry and some champagne. Service was amazing and I adored the interior of the establishment as I mentioned, it's a house full of love for food to be shared and enjoyed by the community. read more

Finally took my gf here in a Sunday morning after our workout. French toast was a 10/10. Can't go wrong with a baguette and peach toppings. Really good flavor we finished it. Cheeseburger scramble was decent decent amount of mushrooms not enough burgers Service was fairly quick waited about 10 mins before we got seated and waters came shortly after. Didn't wait too long for our food. Ambiance is nice a little small French spot with a lot of character. Only tough part is parking. That's why I don't usually come often. read more
Wow. Wow. Wow. DO NOT SKIP THIS PLACE. Everything was fantastic. From the service to the fresh baked scones with homemade lemon curd, to the Cucumber water.. we were thoroughly impressed with everything Starling Diner offers. Food came out fast and everything tasted so fresh. The potatoes were so well seasoned (as was everything else). We didn't even use salt or pepper. Ambiance was relaxed, casual & a lil quirky. You don't have to get dressed up to feel at home here. We highly recommend the fresh scones, eggs Benjamin, and crab cake with eggs as well as the chia tea and the mimosas. But I can't wait to come back and order some French toast- it looked & smelled amazing! *I will say the portions are on the smaller side, but we left full and the quality of all the ingredients is so high that I didn't have a problem with it. Have had an extreme cravings for a sweet breakfast and Starling Diner was the first to come to mind! To be honest, have never stopped thinking about their french toast since the last time I've had it! It's that good!! This time I got the banana and nutella french toast and yes it's delicious!! It's definitely way sweeter than the peach one I had, but the warm bread is a great balance. Speaking of bread, the temperature it comes out at is delectable! So warm and fluffy, just perfect. I also got a side of smoked salmon because bouncing back from sweet and salt makes each taster better! The salmon is simply amazing. Love that it's folded so prettily as well! Picked up my BIL who lives a couple blocks away. Decided to walk down and have breakfast. Was seated real quick, and noticed that they were featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Limited seating inside, and a few tables outside also. Thought I would try a few different things. Started with the Bloody Mary. It was delicious. Wonderfully fresh with a perfect amount of horseradish. Beautifully placed crab claw that was perfect. Next we ordered the scones. Perfectly cooked, nice and crumbly. Buttery and delicious. I then decided to order the Soyrizo scramble. I was not disappointed. The Soyrizo was perfectly seasoned and remarkably textured. Virtually indistinguishable from actual chorizo. Potatoes were a nice side, well seasoned and just the right size. Not too thick and not too thin. I would definitely try this place again. This place is a hidden gem a must visit! I went during the week at lunchtime, and did not have to wait very long at all. Very friendly customer service and the ambiance is so quaint! What vegan options are there?
They have a granola, or you can order a lot of the salads without cheese or meat on it. Not a ton of options, but there's still ways to work around it.
Do you really have vegan options? The last comment about vegan options was three months ago it stated there were no vegan options but the yelp pg says there are. I will be there in April with a group of friends so just want to know my options?
