It's nice to see a familiar face. My mum and I came for an early brekkie and we shared a double baked granola and a berries French toast. We came with a big appetite but we couldn't finish it all. Because this diner is in a neighbourhood, you must find street parking. And be ware, street sweep is Thursday 8-10am and Friday (didn't look at the time). You can usually find parking if you do not mind a brisk walk to the diner. It's pet friendly because my hubby and I once brought our dog for outdoor seating. Absolutely love this neighborhood gem. Service has been friendly, attentive and great every time. The food is phenomenal!! I always get the mushroom and goat cheese scramble. It's just so good. My friends tried the crab cake scramble and they were raving about it so I'll definitely have to try that one next time. We also shared the caramelized apple French toast- ohhhhhhmyyy god. It's a cute little cozy place. It was a very busy Saturday morning. Service was fairly quick and they were friendly. They gave us great recommendations about food choices. The MIMOSAS HIT! The location is pretty cool, it's on a residential neighborhood area nestled between houses and apartments. The service is decent. Our server was attentive and fast. There was quite a bit of wait to be seated and get our food, but that was to be expected being a Sunday morning. The flavor was amazing! It was some of the most tasteful and delicious egg and potatoes I've ever had. The meal I got was "The Basic". The potatoes were crunchy yet soft on the inside, still fresh and warm from cooking. You can taste a hint of rosemary or some other herb in in which gave it a hit of a secret ingredient. The only downfalls to this place are their portions and prices. Yeah I get it, it's LA and what not but we walked out of here for almost $80 for a breakfast for three...you are going to break the bank to eat here. Almost everything is AT MINIMUM $15. Any little alterations you want to make to the food you get, is an extra charge. You even get charged even altering a coffee a little bit. Our coffee totaled to almost $9. Highway robbery. The worst part is they give you SIX SMALL INDIVIDUAL POTATOES CUBES with your meal. I have never seen such a sad amount of potatoes given to me. Definitely skimping on the potatoes. The serving sizes are abysmal. You will not even get slightly full. I realize my meal was one of the cheapest options here but I have been to similar breakfast spots and received much more portions for the same prices. It's a small diner in the middle of a neighborhood. It gets pretty busy so the earlier you go the shorter your wait. It's also only open for breakfast and lunch. My fiancé and I went for an early breakfast so we were sat immediately. I had the Mango Peach Mimosa and Chicken Apple Sausage & Scrambled Eggs. Delicious and cute brunch spot in my Long Beach neighborhood. I would suggest going early as possible because there is usually a long line around 12pm. I highly recommend their coffee latte because there is a cute design every time. My favorite is the caramel steamer for its sweet and delicate taste. The food is also perfect for a healthy yet filling breakfast. The berries on toast with light cream cheese and honey on top is so good! I also loved the eggs breakfast combo with salmon and greens - super light and delicious. This place is a hidden gem in an old neighborhood in Long Beach. It totally has the Stars Hollow vibes to it (where are my Gilmore Girls fans at!?) it's super cute and the food is amazing. They aren't a very big place but they also have a few tables outside and pet friendly if you bring your pooch. The fresh toast with berries is to die for. I hope they have this in Heaven. It's THAT good. The fresh baked scones with the lemon curd and the orange butter is also life changing. All of their breakfast plates looked amazing. The star of this place (see what I did there?) is there french toast. They take a french baguette and stuff it with cream and smother it with one of several different toppings. It's a decadent and unique dish and worth the trip. The other dish worth getting are their scones. Normally scones can be super druly and flavorless. These are cooked really well and the butter and lemon curd elevate these scones. Otherwise, I'd say everything else is good, not great. The polenta is creamy and pretty good but not something that I would crave. The smoked salmon crostini is good but wish they had more capers (only 2 per crostini). We also got their blue crab cakes but I thought it was just okay. I wish they cooked it a little crispier because it was a little soggy and had very little textural contrast. The scrambles and other breakfast items are things you could make at home and nothing to write home for. What made this a 4 star instead of 3 (which from food alone would have been an average 3 star) is their service. Everyone was really nice and attentive and that's what you want from a good brunch place. All in all, above average food, very good service, and a cute, at home vibe make for a strong contender in the crowded Long Beach brunch scene. read more

I have been coming to this place for about 10 years. Went for an occasional breakfast this morning as we always do with our dog and we got kicked out after ordering food because we had our dog with us while sitting outside. Our dog is a service dog and the server took a picture of the documents to send to the owner and he literally refused us service. With a multitude of choices for breakfast restaurants in Long Beach that all allow dogs, for them to say no to even service animals is ridiculous! The pandemic sure did cramp my eating out style, and had been since the "beforetimes" that we've had the pleasure of frequenting this charming establishment, and I can't tell you how much I missed it! A gorgeous sunny Sunday, we parked on the quaint residential street perpendicular to 3rd, seeing that there were lots of people waiting to be seated. Indoor and outdoor (hooray for advancing in tiers - way to go herd immunity, I love my antibuddies!!)... we were prepared to wait a long time. Put our names in and waited for an hour, no biggie. Got seated right at the counter We didn't waste time and ordered a drunken chai and Irish coffee (both on ice), a basket of scones, and 2 orders of bacon. Yummmmm. The scones come with lemon curd and a sweet butter that has tiny flecks of orange zest. Come on now... this perfection I carefully calculated with mathematic accuracy the ratio of topping onto the warm, flaky soft scones (drooling...) to ensure that each bite up until the last had a blanket of deliciousness. Yes, the stuffed French toast is something to write home about, but for me... the piece de la resistance is the BREAKFAST POLENTA. Creamy delicious polenta draped in a river of sweet cream and topped with fresh berries. Can't be beat. This is all I need to be happy here at Starling. Can't wait to return and return and return! Went here for lunch with two friends. Service was immediate, friendly and attentive. Special shout out to Alfredo, our waiter! Friendly, fast and really wants his customers to be happy! We had salmon, pot roast sandwich, slow cooked pork sandwich, and two of us got in house made split pea soup. One friend took home beautiful, fragrant just baked scones to his wife. We all had coffee and agree it's especially delicious! Such ample portions that I was full from the soup! Took a couple of bites of the incredible pot roast and brought it home for dinner tonite.!
