This is a basic Starbucks in a small mountain town--along a heavily traveled highway between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. It is busy with tourists and locals, and is conveniently located by a Rite Aid if you are on your way up or down the hill and need to get provisions other than coffee. The few times I've stopped by (both in the drive through and in the store, the location has been clean, well stocked, and staffed by friendly hard working baristas. It has been busy with both locals and travelers. I don't have the easiest order (lots of specializing)...but each time, my drinks were made correctly and tasted wonderfully. I rarely find a reason to leave a review, whether good or bad. But I'd give 6 stars to this place if I could!!! I come in on a regular basis, observing interactions while I wait for my caffeine fix lol. That being said, I think this Starbucks has some of the most patient partners I've ever seen. Lots of customers come in already on edge since they haven't had their coffee yet. That paired with them having to wait a few minutes for their coffee has them... let's say... agitated. And this crew is so good at connecting with the customers and making sure that they are heard. I LOVE this store! I personally like the taste of Starbucks espresso, some complain the beans taste burnt but to me the beans just have a deep nutty flavor. As for the customer service at this location I'd give it 5 stars, the bathrooms are sometimes questionable here but not the worst ever. The line in drive thru can move pretty slowly but if you really mind don't be lazy and go in, it's usually much faster inside. I'm knocking a star off because my drink is messed up pretty often when my husband picks it up for me, I always check before I leave and ask for a remake if I need it, they always do it with no questions asked. read more

I have stopped at this Starbucks numerous times on my way home from Tahoe and Apple Hill. I have never been to a Starbucks where their bar isn't equipped with the basic. The barista was so rude when I grabbed the pumpkin spice to add to my husband's mocha. I contaminated it. Maybe if you kept your bar area up to date, I wouldn't have to do your job. It was requested as a mocha with cinnamon not a plain mocha. Yet I was told they only have one cinnamon shaker. Common lady, there's only one then call management to supply your Starbucks properly. Maureen rung me and my sister up and I told her that it was my sisters wedding today and asked her to write "BRIDE" on the cup. She stops, looks at me, and literally says, "NO" and ends it there. Chains can serve a purpose. It's one thing when they displace high quality local businesses. It's another when they're the only folks willing to provide a service in a less lucrative location. Looks like the housing bust and oncoming recession have killed most of the coffee places I depended on during trips up and down Rt. 88. All those cool cafes that stayed open on Sundays are now For Rent, with lots of extra space on either side in the small-town strip malls of the Mokelumne Valley. The few remaining Mom & Pop places still haven't acknowledged the back-roads skier traffic, and they open late, close early, and observe the Sabbath. I guess folks will have to settle for J.H. Christ now that D.R. Horton and K.B. Homes have packed up and left town. But there's always Starbucks. It's the McDonalds of the New Millenium. While driving around the middle of nowhere throughout the East, our family knew that you could get flush toilets, running water, and palatable food at any Golden Arches. The world is more sophisticated now and there is simply more stuff available to buy these days, so Starbucks is the next, slightly higher level of generic, safe, predictable watering hole. This one in Placerville is just off US 50 (I was looping around through South Lake on this trip), can fix you up with a light breakfast at 7:30am on a Sunday, and won't give you shit for daring to display a KQED mug in public and not driving a vehicle that's not V8 powered and 10' tall. read more

I secretly love Starbucks! I mean, I'm a Gold Member at Starbucks! Any place with a rewards card is a solid to me! Don't get me wrong, I love supporting local coffee shops, and I understand the fears around having a Starbucks move into town....they are pretty popular, and they seem to just get it right! Also, I have been a customer of Starbucks around the world! From Europe to China and back around to Peru....everything is very consistent, even the smell of the bathrooms! If you like sitting with droves of stinking, brawling, homeless people...this is your place. Went in with my daughter this week to meet a teacher for a meeting. Had one homeless guy sleeping and drooling on one table. 2 other homeless people sitting 2 tables away from him. In the middle of the meeting, another one walked in and tried to pick a fight with one of the guys sitting down. Nobody on staff batted an eye at the problem arising. I guess the liberal sanctuary mentality is fully ingrained in the employees during training. Employees couldn't be bothered to make eye or verbal contact at an absolutely filthy handoff station. I visited at 2:30 today. The barista threw my pastry into the wet mess on the handoff counter and was gone without any smile or contact. The bag was completely wet from the mystery liquid on the counter. I asked for a new bread slice. No one spoke to me at all. The new piece was also dropped into another mystery wet spot for the second hand off. No acknowledgement of me or kind words let alone even eye contact. As a former long term partner the lack of professionalism, friendliness or integrity for work quality was appalling. $10 for a cup of coffee and a piece of bread needs to be accompanied by kind professionalism in a clean environment to warrant return business. read more
