Sweetie Pie's was a great find during our visit to Placerville. We were looking for a breakfast spot to kick off the day, and it definitely didn't disappoint. The place has a unique, homey charm that makes you feel comfortable right away. We did have to wait a bit on a Sunday morning. A nice touch is that coffee is self-serve inside, which adds to the relaxed atmosphere. Wanting to try something different, I ordered the Chile Relleno Casserole. I'd never had anything like it for breakfast. It had a light, fluffy egg-based texture with chiles throughout, making for a really interesting and tasty dish. My first review was flagged and taken down, so here is number 2... We were seated at a tiny table right by a high-traffic doorway. We ordered coffee, a mimosa, pancakes, eggs, bacon, avocado toast, and hash browns. Then, our server vanished into thin air for a full 45 minutes. We watched the entire dining room empty, reset, and seat new guests. People who sat down long after us finished their meals and paid their checks before our food even touched the table. From what we can tell, our server went on a break and forgot to submit our order to the kitchen. When we tried to flag down other staff, they aggressively avoided eye contact. I was ready to shout, "Hey Sweetie, we just want our overpriced breakfast!" When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm and wrong. The toast could have doubled as a brick. The hash browns were a culinary enigma--simultaneously burnt to a crisp and cold/raw in the center (I still can't fathom how that physics experiment works). Still no server in sight! When she finally ambled back, she was completely oblivious to the disaster, acting as if she had just delivered a Michelin-star dining experience. I eat out at least five times a week, and in my entire life, I have never left without tipping. Today was an absolute first. Sweetie Pie's, we won't be back. Such a cute little spot in Placerville! It was really cozy and charming! Staff were really friendly and welcoming! We came with a party of 6 on a Thursday for brunch and was seated right away. It seems like it definitely gets busy, especially the weekends! The portions were HUGE. Everyone was stuffed! My toddler especially loved the warmed blueberry bran muffin -- toddler approved. The muffins seem to go fast, since people seem to stop by just to their pastries. We ordered some with our meal, and later my in-law decided they wanted one to-go, but they were already sold out. I got the quiche and it was really delicious. It was a little heavier on the cheese for my personal taste, but still really good and I enjoyed it. I also had leftovers! We also tried the blueberry pancake, which was fluffy and full of blueberries! I was pleasantly surprised because many places skimp on blueberries, but this was loaded! It was perfect! Others in my party also got omelettes and they enjoyed it as well. Overall, cute atmosphere, friendly staff, generous portions, and good food. Wow was blown away by our breakfast stop! I've probably driven by a million times but have never stopped in glad we did it was delicious. Our table opted for a variety of items. We choose to sit outside and it was nice to take in the fresh outdoors. They provide tables with umbrellas and on the day we attended there was a nice breeze. Sweetie Pie's is like stepping into your grandma's house--if your grandma had a sunny patio, a Victorian flair, and a pastry case sent straight from heaven. We stopped in for a quick visit while meeting up with family and grabbed some pastries to go. I got an apple turnover and a pecan cinnamon roll that was bigger than my hand--enormous and absolutely delicious. My dad went for coffee, a cherry turnover, and an apple turnover, and he was equally impressed. We didn't stay to dine in, but walking through the restaurant, we couldn't help but notice how tempting everyone's food looked on their plates--hearty, homemade, and straight-up drool-worthy. It was honestly hard not to cancel our plans and sit down to eat. The staff was sweet, the vibe was charming, and the whole place had that "welcome home" energy. You know, I really was hoping to give this spot more stars but my experience was just ok with some highs and some lows. Our waitress was super nice and sweet but I'm not sure if she was a bit overwhelmed but there were a few issues. I ordered the Spanish omelette with hash browns. Not only did our food take forever but she forgot the sour cream for my omelette and gave me regular potatoes instead of hash browns. I was starving and already waited forever that it wasn't worth sending back. Apparently the cook initially even forgot the sausage in my omelette as well so he had to add it which delayed it even more. Our pancake that we ordered to shared didn't come until we were more than half way done with our meal. The pancake was yummy. When it came to pay my bill said one thing but I was charged something else, when asked she said she forgot to add the pancake on the original receipt but charged me for it. Great restaurant in placerville that doesn't skimp on the portions and delivers a real homemade vibe. Ordered biscuits and gravy (medium) and a single pancake. First the biscuits were good - very fluffy and had great texture that worked well with the gravy. My only knock is the gravy could have been seasoned better. It lacked flavor but the consistency was good. It's good but not the best I've had. The pancake though was OUTSTANDING!!! It had a crispy cook too it and the inside was fluffy and the flavor was delicious. They gave you plenty of butter and syrup and honestly the pancake was sooo good that it didn't need syrup. On my last visit, I enjoyed the french toast (two monstrous pieces of thick french bread cooked to perfection) alongside with bacon and eggs. My partner enjoyed a pancake the size of a catcher's mitt. The syrup comes to your table warm, which is a nice touch. The dining room is cute with a farmhouse environmentt. There is also an outdoor patio along Main Street. The place gets packed on weekends, but offers coffee while you wait. Service is fast and personable, providing a very natural small-town feel.
