Chill atmosphere, trendy music, friendly service, plenty of seating, high ceilings, and large windows which let in lots of natural light made this location at the corner of 3rd and Lavaca a favorite. With Starbucks closed at the Radisson I knew this was not the end where a new location has emerged at the northeast corner of the W Austin (3rd & Lavaca). This coffeehouse is really nice and may be a Starbucks Reserve, and even noticed two beer taps which said Nitro Cold Brew. I was feeling pretty tired so I quickly scanned the menu and ordered an iced coffee by mistake where wanted a iced black tea. I am so used to ordering from my phone where forgetting how to order in person since Starbucks does not have a full menu on wall to look at. It did not really matter anyway where the ice coffee gave me the perk I needed. Sat at a table where a newspaper was on it. I guess this store attracts paper lovers where I like others sip and stare at phones. The furniture was comfy and starred outside watching what looked like a homeless person washing the windows. There is no access into the W Hotel but you can see trucks and busses outside belonging to the next entertainer to perform at ACL Live. Would not be surprised to see those guys like Rob Thomas or Chris Stapleton in here getting their favorite drink, so be on the lookout. The space is beautiful and spacious. It's downtown close to all the hotels and it's designed to host hotel goers and locals. There's a long high table by the counter, couches nearby and many single tables along the two window walls. Of course, there's strong, free wifi and many outlets throughout. This Starbucks crew is one of the best in Austin! At 6:30 am Jeremy, Aaron, Charity, Alex, Penny, Dasha and Roddy are cheerful and provide perfectly crafted custom coffee concoctions. Our coffee maker failed so we started fetching our morning jo here - and now we can't stop! Their daily chalkboard conundrums are win-win as humorous brain teasers. The Covid protocols are followed and the store is immaculate. For example, I was horrified one early morning- when I forgot my mask and trotted right into the shop. Walking around in the area, we searched for a Starbucks nearby and found this one. Mid-day on a Friday afternoon, there were no lines upon walking in. I also noticed how spacious it was inside, with very high lofty ceilings. We received our drinks within a few minutes, and we were going to go sit outside but it was too hot, so we came back inside. With the bigger space and higher ceilings inside, I didn't feel claustrophobic at all. Overall, a good experience with no issues at this location. read more

Counter seating toward the back also good for laptops with powerports. At bottom of windows along 3rd St are powerports, floor level down low. The wall along Lavaca St does not have powerports. Male & Female labeled bathrooms, two persons can use at one time. Baby changer boards in each. Staff here is exceptionally pleasant and helpful. They tactfully deal with the homeless seeking shelter from frigid mornings or rain. Also, some dog owners enter with pets obviously Not licensed as special care animals. Parking is scarce around here, pay parking included. At any rate, one of the best 'Bux I have visited. read more

The cashier was giving me the code to use the bathroom when the manager came out and she told us that we couldn't use the bathroom because the bathroom closed 30 minutes before the store closed. Will not return here again. I'm deaf. So I went in for some tea. As far as I could see, there was only one mint tea on the menu above the barista's head. I simply said "Mint tea." And requested venti. But for some reason, this turned into a whole thing where the barista asked another to assist them. Then before I knew it, a random customer joined in. So I'm standing there, embarrassed, as three people try to order tea for me. Later, I asked a different barista if I could speak with them (I wasn't sure if they were the manager). They walked away. So I'm left hanging, feeling embarrassed again. Finally, a manager showed up. Dylan was their name. I explained to them what happened and how I felt. But they didn't seem to take any of it seriously. In fact, they even seemed amused by my embarrassment. They kept talking with their mask on, like I'm expected to somehow read their lips through a thick layer of fabric. I even told them as much--that I didn't know what they were saying to me because the mask was covering their mouth. But they disregarded that and kept talking. It was appalling. They truly did not seem to care. Finally I said just forget it, that they obviously didn't know how to communicate with deaf people. All Dylan, the manager, did was flash a thumbs up. The important thing to note is that I'm not really a coffee girl - I order the same thing at Starbucks every time (tall skinny vanilla latte) and I mainly frequent coffeeshops for their free wifi (I'm shameless!) I used to be under the impression that "all Starbucks are the same" (because come on, how different can coffee get), but this store changed that impression. Why is this place awesome? Let me count the ways: - Servers are always friendly. They all look genuinely happy to be at their job. I've dropped in at 3-4 different days/times and the experience has always been the same. - This is a huge location, with plenty of seating options. Armchairs with swivel desks? Check. Booths? Yep. Tables for groups, tables for two, barstools? You got it. - Wifi is super fast here. Told you I was shameless. - The line forms on the far right hand side of the store, out of the way of the seating area and pickup area. Way too often I've seen stores where the lines form in the middle of the seating area and you have to maneuver around crabby I-haven't-had-my-morning-caffeine snobs to get back to your seat. TLDR; struggling student, paid $7 for a shitty latte, sat down quietly to do some writing. Asked to BORROW a single.pen as I forgot one. They refused. Even when I promised to return it... I'm fucking done with Starbucks. So I just went in here and ordered a venti caramel brulee latte. I wasn't a fan unfortunately but I had never had it before so that's not their fault. BUT, it was $7 which is honestly ridiculous but again that's just Starbucks nowadays. My actual issue is this: I was sitting there quietly for about 15 minutes and intending to do some writing when I realized I didn't have a pen. I approached the counter where a staff member was standing. She had gold wire framed round glasses, fair complexion, dark shoulder length curly hair parted down the middle... Wish I got her name! She said "how can I help you?" And I said "sorry I hate to ask but is there any way I can please please borrow a pen and I promise I will give it back before I leave? I completely forgot one!" She barely even glances at me and says "sorry unfortunately I can't just hand out pens" in that classic employee with zero desire to help any customers type of "I really don't give a fuck" kinda tone. Like come on Starbucks. I'm a PAYING CUSTOMER, clearly a struggling student at that, who just genuinely needed a fucking pen to BORROW for maybe 45 minutes. You would think a billion dollar corporation would be able to spare a fucking single pen that probably cost them a fraction of a cent, that is if I didn't return it which I was 100 percent going to. Before this, I've wanted to boycott Starbucks for several reasons - poor quality, way overpriced, rather shop small and support a mom and pop shop etc. Also there's been several instances of racial discrimination (Google it y'all). Hence all the glowing 5 star reviews from Yelps "Elite Club". And most of them don't "drink coffee" "stumbled upon it"and it's a "great space and great service" When in fact the service is horrid and millennial wanna be punks have the typical "you're lucky I'm even acknowledging you" attitude. I've placed mobile orders for the last few years and never a problem. Especially if I run a few minutes late, it's almost always ready for me. But when the place is empty, the cashier is literally standing still at the register, the mobile order nowhere in sight and I'm just standing there looking lost. The cashier purposely avoiding my stare until a different team member comes and STARTS making my coffee- all the while I'm still unacknowledged and ignored. This place is one of the few Starbucks in the US that serves the Starbucks reserves coffee. Atmosphere * Huge windows, so plenty of natural lightings. This is probably one of the most well designed Starbucks that I've ever visited. Nice wooden interiors and decors. Love the huge world map cut out decor. * There's plenty of wooden table/chair seatings, as well as some sofa seatings. * There's not really an outdoor seating. Just a long wooden table, which can probably be used for people to chill and put their coffee outside. But no one really use it. * It can get a bit chilly so bring extra layers if you plan to stay here for a long time. * PLENTY of outlets! Wi-fi is also good, just like the usual Starbucks wi-fi * The crowd is mostly young adults or older. Most are on their laptop working, but there's also a handful of people who came to hang out. The place is not too noisy, generally Starbuck's music dominates the place. Location: It is right next to the W hotel and a fitness center/yoga place. So there's a mix of people with nice clothing and people with gym clothes. Might be difficult to find parking downtown, but this place is right next to a rapid bus stop. Basically I looked like an idiot and I realize that people that go to Starbucks wonder how I showed up at one today having never really ordered a coffee at one until now, but somehow I did. What I liked was that the cashier (barista?) was actually helpful, polite, didn't seem annoyed that I didn't know what/how to order, the coffee was actually good, but the real reason I'm writing the review was that they actually had heavy cream. Yes, heavy cream. I like these locally owned or smaller, coffee shops as much as anybody, but what I absolutely despise is a coffee shop that doesn't carry heavy cream. No, I do not want half and half, or milk, or any other variation of dairy like product that will essentially water down my coffee. A coffee shop not even offering heavy cream at a surcharge is like a pizza place not offering pepperoni because it's expensive. Come on! Unlike Houndstooth and Medici, they have cream here, and it's a bonus that they don't charge for it, the coffee is tasty and was cheaper than the other spots. I like black coffee too, but when I want a splash of cream in my coffee, at least I know of one place that offers it. read more
